    REVAMP EM set

It can't take the devs very long to just give ET it's old animation back. Then Energy Melee will actually be good at something again (and not overpowered, like Claws said just alter it in PvP if they have to). And if they're feeling nice just bring Whirling Hands up to par with every other Brute mid-tier AoE.
  2. Looks like I'm taking everything except Hydro Blast. Sounds good to me

    Thanks a lot everyone.
  3. Alright, guess I'll be making room for it! Thanks guys.

Views on Steam Spray if you don't mind?
  4. Just playing around with Mids for my final Water/Kin build. Since I have Transfusion which is a very good heal and I tend to play in close range anyway, can anyone convince me to take Dehydrate? It hasn't really done much for levelling up to ~30 so far. Granted I don't have it optimally slotted but it still doesn't seem great.

  6. How does Ice compare? I would think it would be relatively near the top?

Yeah loaded up the game today and I'm off center too so I don't think you're alone!

Why shouldn't I be dropping follow through?

Also, Defensive Sweep seems pretty decent to me. ~15% Melee/Smashing isn't gonna hurt in iTrials either surely? (And while levelling up).
  9. So I've started playing my TW/Inv Brute, and ended up taking all 7 TW attacks. I pretty much like them all and can't really identify one that is obvious to skip. I was thinking maybe about leaving out Follow Through but that's all I could think of.

Any suggestions on playstyle/attack chains etc. would be great

3 - How much def and resistance you need to survive mobs with out slowing down.

The only way to know for sure which farming toon is best is to run with Hero stats installed. Which I have done of my main farming toons.

While any toon can farm to be the best you are really limited to Brutes and Scrappers. Blasters, Corruptors, Controlers, Dominations and so on all can farm and once you have them IOed and build they all perform descently. Four builds though in by experience excel. All of these builds have full tier 4 incarnate powers and are min maxed specifically for farming.

I ran two complete maps (SL/City map) and (Reds Fire City Map) with each to get a good settled xp rate. In each run I clocked the XP on a single lowbe (level 1 to 20) with Hero stats running. All missions were run at 54x8 with the map set for LTs only (Bosses slow the xp for any build by 100K per hour). All builds are macroed so that I always have 4 red inspirations running. Other inspirations are combined into reds when I move around.

    The results were surprising.

Electric/Shield Scrapper: 500K XP per hour
Claws/Fire Brute: 275K XP per hour
Staff/Fire Brute: 250K XP per hour
    SS/Fire Brute: 225K per hour

I was really surprised that Claws clearly beat SS until I looks at two items:
1 - how often the rage crash slowed things down.
2 - Claws with follow up stacks twice giving a nice constant damage buff.

In reality though none of the brutes could hold a candle to the electric / shield scrapper. Having lightning rod and shield charge up every 23 seconds or so makes it a goddess of destruction. LR+SC+FB and stuff is simply dead and you jump to the next group. By the time you get there LR has recharged or Tunderstrike is up. For the city map Shield Electric can clear it in 18 minutes compared to the brutes which took 22-23 minutes on the same map.
Sorry, no way can a person that knows what they're doing manage to get under the half xp per hour, (or any way to measure farming) comparing a SS/Fire Brute to an Elec/Shield Scrapper.

I do not think EM was deliberately placed in a "penalty mode" after the ET/TF nerf. I do however, think that a single, very overpowered attack was reduced in power without adequate consideration of the impact on the rest of the set.

EM was never grossly overpowered in PvE, it was strong at single target damage because of one problem child, and without it? It's right at the bottom of the heap in just about every measurement but single target control, where it does more or less ok.

I propose that it's time to re-examine this set, and change a few things. Hopefully some of my level 50 EMs might see the light of day again, after a long period of well deserved neglect.

Here are the changes I would make:

Energy Transfer: Ok, I appreciate the old power was a bit off the map, but the new one takes too damn long. My suggestion? shorten the recharge to 12 seconds. By my estimation that'd make for a base level 50 damage of about 130 on a tanker or about 183 on a scrapper. The self damage should be reduced to something between 1/2 and 2/3 of what it was. Switch back to the old animation, or something as close to it as testing will allow.

Stun: This power has no earthly purpose... well ok, it might have some purpose, but not much. I'd suggest keeping the animation, which is actually pretty decent, and having an AoE stun effect. Think fault, only with the centre of effect on a melee target rather than a ranged target. Mag 2 stun as per fault, but increase the duration a bit (no range, but lasts a little bit longer)

Whirling hands: Back in 2009, Dominators had the radius of their version of WH increased to 15. I'd propose the same her. EM has never been an AoE powerhouse, and I doubt this change would ever make it one. You'll have one light damage, but very usable AoE on a decent recharge.

Total Focus: I'd love to see the magnitude of the stun re-instated, but if my suggestion to change stun were to be instituted, this would be less of an issue.
I like all of these suggestions, and I can honestly say that since the ET nerf I don't think I've played my Energy/Elec Brute for about more than 2 hours in total.

With all the new melee sets coming out, (that are clearly stronger than EM) it really isn't going to make anyone rage if EM is buffed slightly. And as you said, EM was never OP'd in PvE.

If the devs don't want to revamp the set or make any massive changes my suggestions are:

    - Give ET it's old animation back, but with a 1.67s cast time, which is what I think they should have done originally. IIRC the original animation was 1s(?) so this will make it a solid attack w/o it being ridiculously good.

    - Increasing Whirling Hands' radius to 15' as you say.

IMO, these 2 changes alone would make me want to play EM again, and anything more would be great!
  12. Yeah it's not going to match the Fire with raw damage, and the control/debuff it brings is minimal (You're better just leaving Fire Ammo on, and switch to normal for Piercing Rounds for the -Res).

However I like the animations and enjoy the T9 power. The damage is still decent and paired with most Corruptor secondaries and Scourge, it amounts to a lot of fun for me.
  13. Go into the "For Fun!" category, and then onto the Suggestions and Ideas sub-forum.

    Or just click this link:

  14. Thanks for all the feedback guys.

One last question, how much do you all use Seeker Drones? -Dmg - Acc (+Disorient) seems pretty good and potentially good for soaking alphas. Other thoughts?
  15. So I'm thinking about rolling either a Traps/Sonic Defender or a /Traps Corr. Just playing around in Mids I've managed to make a few build(s) that I like (Softcap to M/R/AoE, ~60% SL Res).

I enjoy doing Speed TFs, and I plan on fully incarnating the toon, so lots of iTrials. I can't see myself ever really using Time Bomb and even Trip Mine seems to have limited uses though I can why it might be useful on something like a BAF, but is the damage that great?

So does anyone swear by either of these 2 powers? (Trip Mine I'm thinking mainly, since I gather the general consensus is that Time Bomb is useless)

Serious Answer: Traps. It's got everything you need. Buffs and - more importantly - Debuffs.
I was gonna call the grammar police too..

But yeah Cold is my fave support set. Most sets will bring a lot to the team buff or debuff-wise but most importantly if they're played well.

To echo False, for pure buffs, Empathy is up there and Thermal has a nice mixed bag too.

I've managed to do some pretty amazing things with this build, but my playstyle has evolved to be rather melee-centered, in fact there's rarely a moment i'm out of melee, so i'm beginning to have second toughts about the ranged softcap i've put in his first build. So this is what i came up with as his second build..............

I was just wondering some things about this build:
-Is thunderstrike as good as it seems on paper or is the longish activation time on it a real handicap in the game?
-Will this build also give me good protection or will i feel the difference in being mezzed or vs certain common enemygroups?
-Will i miss flares? my single attack chain now is flares-fire blast-blaze but i cant often fire it off more than twice, i could always substitute it with fire ball for 1 run of ball-blast-blaze-blast-ball-blaze-blast when facing tough single targets, but will it be good enough?
-Are there any big flaws in my second build that i might have missed?
-If you'd have to pick a build to use, which one would you pick?
    - If you're melee-centric then you should probably build for S/L Softcap instead of Range.. it will most likely increase your chances of survival.

    - I wouldn't take TS personally since I don't like to be rooted on something like a Fire/Cold where you are doing lots of different jobs.

    - Skipping Flares is fine IMO. Especially if you're teaming a lot you'll be throwing out Blaze/Fire Blast, your AoEs, and debuffs mainly. If you want a tight ST chain then sure, but I didn't have much room in my build as is.

    - I would pick the second build to play with out of the 2.

    EDIT: Notes about slotting:

    - Slot Benumb with at least 1 Acc, and preferably another Rech.

    - Please put some defence into your shields if you plan to team.

    - Swap the EndMod/Acc for an EndMod/Rech in Heat Loss. It's like the best power ever.

    - Looking at your build... I like how you achieve SL softcap + a Res. shield, but you seem to underslot/sacrfice a lot of things for it. I'm wondering whether dropping the Res. shield and using Scorp Shield will help. Or maybe dropping to 32.5% SL and keeping the Res shield.

EDIT 2: Just playing around with your build, if you don't like Thunder Strike, you could swap it out for Electric Fence and slot it with Enfeebled. This is what I came up with.

  22. I'm in a similar boat to False really. Came from Defiant and I now have a few 50s on Freedom. It's nice and I've found some good players/friends, but there isn't really a sense of a community, and also all the very active channels there seem to be full!

Is there a main sort of community channel on Virtue?

    Thanks in advance.
  23. Yeah Fire/Cold is great. It really shines in a team, so as you seem to be doing so, stay in a team so you can take full advantage of your shields/AoEs, and only solo if you need to really.

Endurance will be a problem levelling up, I used to use the Recovery Serum temp. since every little helps. I know some people knock it, but I really like Fire Breath (with the new animation) for some more AoE. When you get Sleet/RoF combo at 35 it's quite a tidy opener due to the KD.
  24. Yeah I find myself in melee often with my Cold for the Heat Loss buff so S/L is (and has been for me) a very good idea. And like you say, the Fire/Sonic doesn't really need to go into melee at all.

In summary, if you're on a budget or just want to softcap a certain area of defence easily while also being able to pile on the +Rech, I would Scorpion Shield is a very smart choice.
