Tell me about Dual Pistols...

How is the set? Pros / Cons? How is the damage? How powerful is the T9? Etc.

I've played a Fire/Dark Corruptor which was a lot of fun AOEing things down. It also did REALLY nice on single targets too. How would it match that?

I,ve got a DP/Rad corrupter at 41 now. I also have a 50 DP/MM blaster. I enjoy the corrupter more as the Rad debuffs, heal and AM make him far more useful on teams and more survivable solo as well.

The damage from DP isnt spectacular, but lots of AOE and decent ST shots as well. Your Tier 9 recharges very fast, especially on a /Rad running AM. And I personally love the animation. Make a caped toon for lots of extra visual flair.

Just make sure your secondary enhances your damage.....that's DPs biggest shortcoming. /Rad and /Kin both work well.

(somewhat) objective: A mid-ranked set with an interesting gimmick of being able to alter some of the effects and secondary damage types. It's not going to put you into the top rank of either AoE or single target damage, but it does both reasonably well. Crashless tier 9 with a choice of extra damage (incendiary ammo) or lots of KD (standard ammo) is a nice touch.

subjective: a really fun and stylish set. I like mine paired with /Traps. It's possibly my favorite character in about 5 years of playing.

Compared to Fire/Dark? No. Not likely to match that for any sort of raw performance.

Dual Pistols seems to work better with Corruptors because of the secondary synergies and because of scourge.

I can't think of a Corruptor secondary that doesn't work to well with Dual Pistols to be honest.

Yeah it's not going to match the Fire with raw damage, and the control/debuff it brings is minimal (You're better just leaving Fire Ammo on, and switch to normal for Piercing Rounds for the -Res).

However I like the animations and enjoy the T9 power. The damage is still decent and paired with most Corruptor secondaries and Scourge, it amounts to a lot of fun for me.

@Fail (Used to be @Tux) and @Tuxedo Infinitus Defiant/Freedom/Champion
Favourite Toons: Prosper [Ill/Rad] Controller :: Infinitus [Fire/Elec] Blaster :: Pocket Dynamo [Fire/Shield] Scr :: Fast [Cold/Sonic] Def ::
Inspire [Plant/Storm] Controller :: Quality - SS/Fire Brute :: Double Down [DP/Kin] Corr :: Pwnz [Fire/Cold] Corr :: Fail [Fire/Son] Corr

Adding my 2 inf, I am a huge fane of DP/TA. True you get some very slight redraw issues, but the -def of TA, the holds, debuffs and, in particular, the oil slick arrow which can be set on fire with incendiary ammo, makes it, for me, a pretty groovy pairing.

A lot of people say incendiary or normal ammo is he way forward, but I've found that in a team with faster attack animations the poison ammo is a better choice. I haven't experimented too much, but I am starting to find some great uses for the slows in ice ammo.

I just hit 50, and have absolutely no endurance issues, even with 5 toggles running, so can up the damage with musculature alpha and add more damage with reactive.

The big issue is hardly any mez protection. I have relied on breakies for the journey to 50, and will be grabbing clarion as soon as possible. The only incarnate choice I haven't made is Lore pets and Judgement power. My concept leads me to Nemesis for Lore, but judgement I am still not with a clue.

I'm running a DP/Time corr and loving it. Stylish and brings a lot of utility solo and grouped.

Sound Judgement Son/Son
Cobra Lily Plant/Kin
Celestia, FF/Psy
Nefertiri, Storm/Elec
Pixie, Ill/Rad

Also, if you're on a solo DP Blaster leaving it on Normal Ammo can often seriously help your survivability because of the knockback.

A low to mid-ranked set. Cons include redraw and really long animations (fatal in trials where you have to move and react quickly), esp. Executioner's Shot, the slowest T3 blast of any blast set. (edit: after some checking, it's actually the second slowest, the slowest one being Sonic's.) The nuke is is very hard to use reliably without high def or one of the secondaries that floor tohit e.g. Rad.

The main selling point is the crashless nuke, which has longer recharge than rain of arrows, is PBAoE rather than ranged, and is weaker because you cannot spike the damage with Aim like archery can.

It has some nice tricks, such as the powers accepting a lot of procs, a unique -Dmg debuff from chemical rounds and KB that can be toggled on and off by switching ammo. Changing the damage type through switch ammo is mostly a gimmick with little real effect in actual gameplay.

I agree with 'low to mid ranked'. I hadn't played Blasters for a long time so I made a DP/Fire. By level 10 I was like 'weird, I remember blaster damage was so good at low levels'. Well when I got FSC I saw that my secondary's damage was awesome while Empty Clips was making me feel like I was tickling mobs. And with a Blaster. I hadn't rolled a Blaster for so long I made an Ice/something later just to check so that at level 6 I confirmed blasters still did OMG damage with no prior setup, it was Dual Pistols that was making me kinda sad damage wise. I know the stupid cone does the same damage as Fistful of Arrows, even more with Fire Ammo, but it takes 2.5 secs to animate so it feels like 'all that for this?'. Also in Archery you get Blazing Arrow at 6 and it outdamages and outranges Executioners, that you get at 18 with no Aim.

It's kinda sad to have to pop a luck or two before using the nuke, but on some corrs like /rad, /dark or others I see it easier with setup. Btw I have no idea why they doubled the recharge of the nuke compared to RoA and Full Auto.

DP/Time works very well for me; I end up playing DP like a scrapper just for the fun of it, and Time's Juncture (the PBAoE slow/-ToHit/-DMG) toggle really helps me live that up without major risk involved. Couple the /Time slows with Cryo Rounds for a little extra sliver of slow, or Toxic Rounds for more -Damage atop Juncture. DP is one of my favorite Corruptor sets based on animations, feel and utility.

Also, slot an Achilles -Res into Empty Clips; worth it!
