  1. I don't see anything that would cause problems.

Try going into the Nvidia control panel and make sure all the fancy stuff is set to be controlled by the client rather than through any Nvidia settings.

Also, Nvidia used to have problems with Geometry Buffers enabled and Grandville working together, creating a polygon distorted view... so, disable Geometry Buffers and see if that helps.

    Positron (the dev) created:

-Positron: a Defender with more HP than most Tankers.

-Maelstrom: a Blaster with Dual Pistols and Martial arts (despite what the web site says about Energy Melee).

    Then we've got:

-Manticore: a Natural Defender with massive HP that can be set on fire, take a direct lightning strike, and be punched in the face by super strong power armor and shrug it off.

-Lord Recluse: a Master Mind with thousands of henchmen, energy melee, invulnerability, and VEAT attacks.

    ...just to name four.

Most of the signature characters have exclusive powers made only for them, don't have the disadvantages for the ATs they're supposed to be (tough Blasters, Tankers with massive damage) or they simply defy all power set restrictions and brandish dual swords, guns and martial arts at the same time if they feel like it.

The devs are the only ones who can realize their characters the way they want to, and they flaunt the rules of the universe to do it, so that makes them all Mary Sues in my book.

    1. Then you don't understand the term Mary Sue.

    2. Almost all the signature characters of AV/Hero status get uniquely rolled powersets regardless of whether the character was played by a Dev in some pen and paper RPG game or invented by the Dev.

The Powers team gives them the powers, not the designer of the character. And all AVs/Heroes get the same overpowered HP, and PToD, and attacks not available to players. These sig characters *can't* be built like a player character because they have to be powerful enough to take on 8 player characters at once.
  3. Mary Sues are written such that they have no major flaws and such that every other character likes them except several protagonists who are horribly flawed precisely because they don't like the Mary Sue.

Recluse and Ghost Widow don't have such admiration from their in-game peers. Ghost Widow's admiration comes from the libido of out-of-game guys who dig a hot goth chick.

Except for an admiring public from afar, no one in-game likes Statesman. His power and longevity makes him aloof and seemingly unconcerned about individuals. His peers 'get along' with him at best.

Besides, you get to beat up all three in-game, knocking them off the Mary Sue pedestal of perpetual triumph.

BTW: Zeb Cook and Serdar Copur both played Lord Recluse on the forums. Cook went to the Stargate MMO and Copur went to John Romero's developing MMO.
  4. Check out this thread, Common Solutions & Posting Guidelines

Then post the results of these two programs:

    • CoH Helper - it will show us basic computer settings and your CoH configuration.
    • HijackThis - it will show us what's running on your computer concurrently with CoH. Click on "Do a system Scan and save a logfile." It will automatically open up Notepad and put the info there. Make sure Wordwrap is off in Notepad (Format > Wordwrap unchecked) before you cut and paste here.

It sounds like it might be an overheating problem, check and report your temp with Speedfan - click on: Speedfan 4.41

  7. Not too mention that the checkpoint isn't to get onto his private plane, it's to get to the place where everyone is getting on all sorts of planes. A little carry-on switcheroo and some bad guys have weapons on a commercial flight.
  8. In the meantime...

I highly recommend getting Lazarus: Form Recovery as a FireFox add-on. It remembers all the text you input on forums for a site. So, if this post doesn't get posted and I'm logged out, I can log back in, hit the quick reply button and bring up Lazarus to restore what I had typed.

Lazarus also brought back from the dead for me posts I made in Closed Beta (those forums are not closed and gone).
  9. Especially since English has overtaken German, French, and Latin as the international language of science.

And scientific words in English are just stolen Greek and Latinate words to begin with.

    New SG Badge?

I've been farming for that SG badge. As long as you're in the instance when time runs out, you get credit toward the badge.
  11. Here's Positron's crazy theory:

Focusing on doing a thorough, extended beta test for End Game content.

So, if you want to conjecture what that End Game content is, sounds like fun.

If you want to conjecture what I20 will be that's apart from End Game content, then that would truly be crazy.

Is it Haile or Halie? Neither one is a forum name. And Posthaste and Shimmer-Strike are similarly not forum names.

Does anyone have a definite forum name or global name for them? (Thanks in advance!)
  13. You could have said you purposely turned them off for the contest.
  14. Sounds like your ISP has just installed new P2P sniffing programs that are over-aggressively tagging every program that leaves on open Internet connection as an evil P2P client. It's probably tagging the updating modules of those other programs and it's tagging a MMO, which must keep an open connection to work, as an evil P2P client.

There is no P2P module in CoH. Players have asked for a P2P client to make downloading files go faster through a peer network. But NCSoft doesn't allow that. There is only the client-server module and connection.

Tell your ISP to put it on their safe or white list.

And turn this around on them. They're complaining to you about improper use of the ISP. You go ahead and instigate a complaint against them for harassing you for using clearly non-P2P programs. You pay an ISP for access to the Internet and they're bothering you for... accessing the Internet.
  15. I *dare* you to make less sense!

    1. There is no secret P2P module that CoH uses except for what is known as the client-server connection. What do you think is secretly being transferred in this way, copyrighted boombox tunes?

    2. You can't have an illegal copy of OpenOffice... it's free.

Go back to your ISP and let them know that they have workers smoking crack on the job.
  16. Most of the zones are actually missing NPCs, at least the ones that walk around.

  19. We're probably noticing the running of AVs and GMs more so simply because they're so immune to immobs and other mezzes that would keep them in place and they take so long to put down.

Throw a debuff anchor on a grey minion and it too will immediately run off.

The problem is that we expect an AV/GM not to have their morale break so quickly.

Also, and Castle acknowledges this is problematic, when they do run, they're going too far.

The presence of the Facepalm (and Double Facepalm) emotes have leaked, but they're not accessible in-game and they are not part of the Party Pack.

It is available through off-line Demoediting (see OP pic).

It's is flagged to be unlocked with the 'facepalm' authentification bit, but no one knows how to get it or if it is even available to get.

  22. Zombie Man

    Operative Luong

One of the many new interaction-less NPCs that have recently appeared with the same name -- or one very similar -- to one of the Devs.
  23. Maybe they're Space Robots who are here to protect us from the Terrible Secret of Space?
  24. They went indoors to avoid getting wet from The Coming Storm.
