New SG Badge?

Ok. as most of you might know there is a sg badge for doing 100 cop
this is another one under defeats that I have that says ??? 31 of 100
so I have gotten 31 of whatever... does anyone know what this might be?


It's better to save the Mystery, than surrender to the secret...

That badge is called Scorpion's Surprise.

It's awarded for defeating Lord Recluse at the end of a Patron Arc. You can get credit for defeating him in other places as well.

That progress bar is very broken. Last time I looked at mine, it showed 91/100. It's supposed to only be 5 defeats for the badge, and one more defeat awarded me the badge. I don't know where the number it displays is coming from. lol

Wow really? That used to be only 5 times....lol

Guess I need to change that then huh But before I do, I will have to make sure that's what the badge is. Not that I doubt you, but want to know for sure before I change the info on the site.

That is odd considering I ready have that badge, yet I still have this bar?

I'm sorry. I should have included that in my post. I'll edit it in....

Yes I believe it is still only 5 defeats. No changes to the way the badge works, but the progress bar certainly reads incorrectly.

Then I'm sorry I have no idea what else it would be. There is another badge for 4000 "flamethrower" foes. Maybe that one displays incorrectly as well?

Post a screenshot of the badge marker if you could and show as many of the badges as you can, maybe we can figure it out.

not new, but it seems they did raise the amount you need to earn it. It used to be 5 and now its 100?

Do they really think people will run that 100 times at this point in the game? LOL

Glad my SG got it when it was 5, otherwise we'd never get it.

Too? I'd more readily believe that -just- the badge progress bar is broken before I'd suspect they raised the actual requirement for that badge. Many of the SG badge progress bars have been broken in similar ways throughout the history of this game.

Based on what people have been saying in this thread I suspect the Devs accidentally applied a "1-100" scale on that progress bar instead of a "1-5" scale. Looks like the game is simply attempting to display some data with faulty parameters and doing it badly. *shrugs*

Indeed. I believe it's still 5 defeats for both badges in question, but for some reason the progress bars show strange results. That's what I meant in my original post when I said the progress bar was screwy. Each defeat makes it go from 0 to 31, to 58, to 81 to 91 to 100 (or something strange like that). It's quite bizarre. They have been like that ever since we got the detailed progress bars.

I was actually questioning Beef_Cake's belief that they would actually INCREASE a badge requirement like this in an age where they've virtually gutted the high requirements of many other badges. I'm actually hard pressed to think of a badge in this game which has -ever- had its requirement raised after going live.

Well, that would be the case but there is one problem... I have a small sg and I know for a fact that NO one is the sg including the toon that has defeated landru, which is Nitra (who was not in my sg when she got it) Has done this tf

The only way to really prove either way, would be for me to do a petition or for me to do the Landu tf and see if the bar moves

Seeing how the bar's numerical value acts very strangely, it's not far fetched to think that it is looking at other factors as well. It could be possible that you have completed some kind of other hidden and unrelated requirement that made the bar move, even if you have never defeated him yet.

In short, ignore the progress bar completely. It means nothing. If you want the badge, just go run that TF a few times and make sure you are in SG mode during the boss fight.

So ultimately ONE badge (Silver Bullet) was raised as of today. I guess there's always an exception somewhere. *shrugs*
That pretty satisfies my stipulation of being "hard pressed" to think of any - it's easy to forget one badge that was never hard to get at 100 or 200.
Silver Bullet is hardly an epic level badge...

And as far as other badges being raised/lowered then restored to their original levels those hardly count do they? Clearly I was making the point of mentioning any badges that have had a NET INCREASE since Day One. At least you came up with one semi-trivial one so consider yourself lucky.

Plus, you have to consider this, the CoP Trial is relatively new to the game since its vague introduction back in issue 5.

So considering it's pretty much new and been changed, I wouldn't put it pass the devs to raise the requirements for this badge. It's a SG /VG badge and you can have up to 24 members run it at a time, so the change to 100 wouldn't be a huge surprise considering all the other badges are still pretty astronmical, which is fine since the badge requirements are being shared throughout the group and not a single character.

The CoP SG badge does not work like the others. Your SG only gets credit for single run regardless of how many people in your SG are involved in any particular CoP Trial. This means at least one member of your SG will have to run 100 separate instances of the CoP trial for that badge. I think having to run a 100 CoP trials is astronomical enough for that badge already.

Now admittedly I don't remember if 100 trials already represents an increase to what it might have been pegged at back when it was introduced years ago. But considering the trial itself never really technically worked properly until now I'm easily willing to disregard that history in this case.

Was 10, is now 100. Improved Energy Beam. Several group members on the same CoP run gets 1 collective credit (per run, not per character).

There's no question that that's the badge -- there are only 3 SG "Defeats" badges altogether (check the wiki if you're still not convinced), and your screenshot shows 2 + the third in progress.

Actually I thought it was 20, thats what I had down for that badge when it was introduced. Either way, that was a old number and back then every character that completed it got credit toward the SG badge.

Now it has been increased to 100 and now only 1 person gets credit for it, which I think is horse ****.

I already knew this, not sure why you assume I know nothing about badges but ok.....lol

But as I said to Snow's quote, I too think its crap that only 1 member of the SG earns credit, if 5 people complete the same trial, it should count 5 credits not 1. The badge requirements are reflecting that of a single character and it should be reflected on the "SG"

I thought we were past all this ******** grinding for badges, I guess I was wrong.

Silver Bullet was 200 when it was released. It may well have been down to 100 for a time after that, like how Isolator was briefly down to 50 and Kill Skuls was probably as low as 100, but that was one of the badges (along with Infiltrator) that led some to believe that there was "weighting" for different ranks of mobs when all of them counted for badge progress. I know for certain that the bar did not grow for every defeat back then. I have also never seen any evidence, other than an early post by a player, that Illusionist was ever 100 before the most recent reduction. That was almost certainly a case of players seeing a pattern with so many badges being for 100 of something influencing them to think that everything was a 100 count. You are spot on about Illusionist going from 200 to 500, though.

Well when you make two posts in this very thread implying that you'd think they'd actually raise the Rikti Plasma Turret badge from 5 defeats of Lanaru the Mad in SG mode to 100 (an increase by a factor of 20!) I have to question your complete understanding of the overall badging requirement trends in ths game. Also I was replying specifically to what you said about the CoP SG badge:

Which makes it pretty clear you thought you could still get multiple credit for this badge with each individual SG participant in any given CoP trial.

Considering that you and Snow Globe even disagreed about what the CoP SG badge started out as (10 or 20?) I think there's plenty of room for everyone to be both a little bit right and a little bit wrong about all this. I readily admitted I didn't even remember an original value for that badge because I never considered it a fully functional badge to begin with.

It's obvious you know a lot about badges in this game but just like me it's clear you don't know absoultely everything. *shrugs*
