Yes. I would actually be willing to scrap my other two MMO subs and put that into CoH.
I'll also say that I might have hesitated at $50/month a year ago, but the volume and quality of releases in the last year make this an easy decision.
And I hope I get the opportunity to put my money where my mouth...errr post is. -
Thanks to everyone on this server who made my first MMO experience such a great one. Such a good one, I never considered switching servers or going to another MMO. I will try to remember all of the good memories that I have had with all of you, but it will be hard for the next few days.
Go in peace my friends. -
Try the following:
Assumptions: you are rebooting your PC regularly, your OS and all drivers are up to date, and you are not having any other issues with gaming applications on your system. If yes, proceed:
If CoH is crashing and doesn't require a reboot, I'd suspect CoH or a driver issue. Could also be conflicting with another applet on your system. Try running minimal other "stuff" to test with.
If CoH is crashing and requires a reboot, its most likely software. Wipe disk and reinstall OS and CoH only. Problem solved: No? issue is with CoH, OS or drivers. Yes? re-install your other software one at a time and retest. If problem recurs, the last installed software is conflicting with CoH.
If CoH is crashing and rebooting the PC, its most likely hardware. I suggest starting with the power supply.
If performance is slow, try lowering the graphics settings. If that works, upgrade the graphics card.
These are not absolutes, but are high percentage probabilities.
Hope this helps. -
Figures as soon as I log off you guys figure out how to kick his very-high-off-the-ground tookus.
I had fun on the runs I did, even though they failed. Bit of history - the first itrial I even ran was on the beta server and I finally quit the league as there was much more shouting at people about being stupid than leadership. So I was a little gun-shy (claw-shy?) about jumping into a Day 1 iTrial. But, as always, the super people on Champion made it fun, even as we failed.
Thanks Cobalt, Amy, Plac, Lady Clara, Arctic and everyone else who keeps me coming back to CoH Champs. Looking forward to more tonight! -
If a PC shuts down or restarts, that's usually a hardware issue and typically a power supply issue. Its possible that there could be some interaction between the CoH client, the OS and the hardware to cause a restart, but I would look at hardware first:
-Is your power supply large enough for your system?
-How old is your system and your power supply? Power supplies have more components on them that deteriorate as they age (the big cylindrical capacitors more notoriously).
-Is this a soft restart or a hard restart? Do you see the BIOS and other info as if you'd just powered on, or is it like you just told Windows to restart. If you don't see a difference on your PC, check the BIOS settings to ensure you're doing an extensive power-on self-test (POST) on boot up. It will take longer, but it helps with some troubleshooting.
-Is anything showing up in the event log? If so, its much more likely a software problem as the OS is catching the error. If not, its more likely a hardware error as the OS isn't able to trap any errors.
-I'm also assuming all of your software is up to date.
For a high probability, relatively low-cost fix, I'd swap out the power supply. If that fails, I would probably look at backing up the system, wiping it and installing the OS and CoH from scratch. If that fixes the issue, reinstall everything else. If not, you'll need to provide detailed tech information to CoH devs as you're probably having some odd interaction between the client and the OS. But at that point, you've eliminated the power supply, outdated drivers and a corrupted OS install and registry.
Good luck. -
Quote:Wow - bonus points as the first person I've met that played Superhero 2044. Which is also the only first gen superhero RPG I never owned. Supergame, V&V, Champs 1st ed, Golden Heroes, DC Heroes 1st ed, Heroes Unlimited. I had more superhero RPG books than D&D books at one point. My pnp gaming group fell apart at some point so I haven't got any hands-on experience with more recent stuff like Mutants & Masterminds, but any older superhero pen and paper stuff I've played at least a couple of times- Superhero 2044, anyone?

I am extremely disappointed that no one has broken into a staffy version of the Monty Python Spam Song (or skit).
I believe that some geek-nerd credentials need to be reviewed or even turned in. I mean really? How much of a set-up does one need? -
Actually there is some legal stuff here. Back in the 80's major software publishers were getting threatened with lawsuits due to "vaporware". A small company would publish something cool and then a big boy would say, "yeah we are publishing that later this year" so everyone would wait for the big boy version to come, dry up revenue for the small guy who would go out of business/get bought out/lose its key developers and lo and behold the big boy didn't actually put out the product that year....and sometimes they never did.
Anyway, that's why developers don't like to give firm dates for stuff. -

Quote:The US law changed a few years back to end practices in the IT world where everyone was considered exempt. I believe that data center operations guys and girls are now generally considered hourly by law.Hahahaha. Unless there are some crazy local laws involved, no one who would be doing this kind of work would get a penny of overtime.
Back in the bad old days, even entry level help desk analysts making less than $25k/year were considered exempt. The word from above in those days was that "you work in IT and if you aren't working 50+ hours, you aren't cut out to be in IT". Technically, exempt employees are supposed to get comp time for working wacky overtime, but that never really happened in my experience. -
It seems clear that although some on this thread relish their relish, its also clear that it doesn't cut the mustard for everyone, and is unlikely to catch-up with more popular toppings.
I think we can all respect each other's tastes. We don't need anyone being grilled here or being a brat (or worst). Just chili out and let's not rake everyone over the coals. -
[QUOTE=BrandX;3927185]But I still want a "Clawed Fingernails And A Few Martial Art Kick Attacks Thrown In" Powerset! They can even call it that!
Seconded!
Or with claws on the feet/toes for those of us ruthlessly, yet shamelessley, pillaging the Heck Cat/Tygra/Cheatah/Whyte Tyger type characters. -

I was running fine for months and then started having disconnects and lagging. Turns out new neighbors moved in who were on the same wifi channel that I was and we had contending signals. Since I live in a complex, I eventually went to a wired connection.
Other suggestions:
-check or replace any network cables - they do give out eventually and can cause packet loss.
-power cycle your modem, router and other local LAN devices. Power on your PC when they are back up.
-Run anti-virus and mal-ware scans. You might have picked up something that is hogging your network connection.
Hope this helps.
Also - trying lowering your video settings. Before the recent server upgrades I had to run lower settings for any map with lots of people on it (Mothership raids, BAF). -
Brooks Law: adding manpower to a late software project makes it later
In game development, you have many different skill sets that don't really go through the entire software lifecycle. A graphic designer may not make a good QA tester. Plus game design requires a lot of thought, planning and design before any code is ever written. And IMO, I don't really want my primary QA team to be my coders as they can miss things since they are used to them having lived with them for weeks. You want fresh, somewhat ruthless people to do QA. And the really good QA people tend to be hated since they are willing to make a big deal out of something everyone else would rather let slide. And finally, an MMO requires a lot of QA testing, because you can't make something foolproof because fools are so ingenious!
