Mastermind pets are just too weak in their current state for any of the endgame content.
As a +1 Necro/Dark in BAF, zombies were worthless. They'd be dead before the summon animation finished casting.
Even the knights died from one hit.
Only the lich would last, and that was because he does everything at range. Once or twice he got too close to something while chasing his target a few feet and would instantly die. -
Quote:While that makes sense, what I don't get is why (if it's a problem on their end) I can connect through proxies, but not directly. Right now I'm bouncing through some proxy server I found on the Internet, and here I am, no issues. If I cut the proxy out of the loop though, cityofheroes.com and ncsoft.com time out after an initial handshake.OK, more info. I started looking at my page loads using Fiddler. I can see some interesting things right away. One of the most interesting is that I can see my Windows desktop Server Status widget connecting to this URL
http://www.cityofheroes.com/servers/...?1302632110146
while I'm waiting on forum pages to load. I can't say for sure that this never suffers delays, but now that I think about it, the widget hasn't freaked out lately at any time I haven't actually lost my internet connectivity. This is another tick in the column that suggests that this could be hangups in some shared back-end for the forums and/or main page. I can get to the server status URL consistently, with no delays, even when I cannot load forum pages or the game's main page.
Here's my attempt to connect to a reply post on another thread.

Check that out. In the middle of a bunch of "200 OK" messages (which means I got the file back) I got a file that received no data at all.
Here's the detailed info on that connection.

As you can see, Fiddler is agreeing with my little Python program. I sent a request, then started a request to receive data, and never got anything back.
Here's the fun part. Eventually that jscript file timed out, and then my browser rendered the rest of the page ... four minutes and sixteen seconds later. (Notice that the very first request is the body of the web page, and I got it in its entirety. It was actually a script on the page that failed.)
I really do think this is an infrastructure problem on the hosting site. -

Since issue 20, I've had two problems. Most common is that randomly during the course of playing, some sound effect will get stuck on a loop and I'll get a crash popup. Gives me the option to allow the game to crash or not. Both options crash the game, regardless.
Second issue is maps, and even whole zones (yesterday it was Sharkhead) are gone. Nothing but sky, npcs, and doors load. If I step into a mission map, it clears up. Step outside, it's back. Or vice versa. A relog solves it until the next time it happens.
For the first time today, the game stopped responding while switching zones.
I also noticed (and this prompted me to do a repair, twice) that when playing as my Necromancy Mastermind, my Lich sometimes spouts off very Thug-like comments when given commands. Made me think my install was bad. Which is why I've used the NCSoft launcher to do repairs a couple times now, without solving any of the problems.
I've updated my graphics drivers a couple months ago (last release was January- I think it said the 18th), so they are up to date.
Is there anything else that could cause this?
Windows Vista 32-bit
4 gigs RAM (I know 32-bit can't use it all, but it uses enough)
nVidia 9800 GT (1 gig)
AMD Athlon dual core, 3.0 GHz
helper and hijack will come next, but until the issue with forum loading is fixed, I just wanted to get this thread started while I still had a connection. -
Quote:While I agree that a couple of the posts in this thread aren't related to the issue, the issue is, for about a third of the users, cityofheroes.com and ncsoft.com aren't accessible (myself included).That... just doesn't make any sense at all.
None of these reports and accounts make any sense at all when you group them together. There's gotta be multiple, unrelated problems going on here.
And from the looks of it, ATT is to blame. My own trace route shows a close to 300ms ping as soon as I hit the hop at att.net.
Whether or not that's something related to ncsoft's servers, that's what we'd like to find out. Can they fix it, or should we all be calling our ISPs and telling them to get on ATT's case? -
If they turn and raise the level cap for future content, then the incarnate raids have become mandatory, and no longer optional, like everyone keeps saying they are.
-
Putting them into Passive is practically out of the question- there goes BG mode, and then bam, I'm basically three shot dead.
Follow should mean "Follow", not "Follow when you're done." -
The keybind is as follows: petcom_name zom "follow defensive"
-
I'm finding that if I use Tor (proxy server), I can connect to the forums, while using a normal connection does not work.
Granted, it's slow, since I'm bouncing through Europe it looks like, but it's better than not having access at all.
Seems like the webpage is having issues with North American IPs? -
This is getting frustrating.
In combat, I'm watching my zombie attack an enemy. The enemy turns and flees halfway across the map.
My zombie tries to give chase. Since I know this means the idiot will follow the enemy into the next three spawns around the corner and down the hall, I tap my "Follow" keybind.
I watch the zombie say that he's following... While he continues to chase the enemy. So I start tap-tap-tap-tapping that bind. The zombie starts repeating over and over and over about how he's following me... While he keeps right on chasing the enemy.
And of course, this leads to wipes, and I look like the bad MM that can't control his pets.
Shouldn't "Follow" mean "Follow", and not "Follow, but only after you've hit that enemy ONLY ONCE, no matter how far you have to chase to do it!"?
Seriously annoying. -
Quote:So, the options are keep making alts or raid? Fine, I'll just- oh wait, I have limited character slots. Where's the option now? What's the point of doing content that you don't enjoy, though? Yes, there's a high chance that pretty much all future level 50 content will be tied to it, but there's another 49 levels of the game to still enjoy, and that they're still adding to, plus all those other level 50 activities that we had before this. Does the Incarnate system and the Trials change your participation and enjoyment of those things? Not at all, or it shouldn't, at least. That makes it optional. If you don't enjoy the Trials...don't do them. And, honestly, if you don't enjoy them, and the future content for this system is more Trials...are you even going to enjoy those? They haven't stopped adding content to the rest of the game. We just got 2 new TFs, in addition to these Trials.
If you feel that you don't enjoy something, then go do what you enjoy. That's why we're here, isn't it? -
-
Quote:It's not optional. Choosing to cut yourself off from all future content isn't much of an option at all.Why is optional not good? I thought we were all for options here? Isn't the fact that just about anything you can come up with in this game is optional one of the strong points that make it stand out to so many people?
This isn't something that people are required to do, or even required to do anything special to do. The only thing you need is to be level 50. You can do this content without your Alpha slot unlocked and just like I said before, win or lose, still make progress.
But, not everyone's going to like it. That's inevitable. Not everyone liked PVP, or the Market, or AE, or Ouroboros or anything else that's been added to this game in 7 years. Hell, some people still refuse to touch red side at all. It's impossible to create a feature, system, or mechanic that 100% of the playerbase is going to like or approve of. We've been given completely free, completely optional, completely unnecessary things before 'just because', and you'll still find threads finding fault with it. That's not a complaint, its reality. There's been things added to the game that I didnt care for myself, it's not the end of the world, and its not an insult.
All (most) of us are saying is 'give it a fair shake, or let it be'. if you don't like it, fair enough, but some of these comments, complaints and comparisons are so far off the mark, it borders on appalling.
EDIT: Probably not all future content. That may be an overstatement. I hope. At least the next few issues, though. -
Quote:I'd like to think so, but it's getting pretty obvious that the devs intend on making this Incarnate stuff the new thing.*shrugs* well, if that's the way you feel, don't participate. It's optional. CoH is good like that.
It's optional, yes. But then I also cut myself off from future content unless I want to grind those same two raids over and over and over and over again.
That's the issue, I think. The player has never had to do anything but level up and have a half decent build to access any content in this game.
Once we start raiding, you have to keep raiding. Get the new shiny so you can handle the content for the next new shiny.
Saying it's optional is not good, either. -
Quote:It doesn't matter who I pay- other players, devs, or the Cookie Monster. It's the same thing. I'm collecting points/iXP/junk to spend on something. No, it's not the same as DKP. DKP is a player-driven and run points system, and is dependent on being in a static group of people who raids together, and while it guarantees you a reward within that raid group when you have enough points to spend, it's dependent on how whoever is running the pool has it set up, and it doesn't apply to any other group you might want to do this with. Threads, components, iXP, fall like rain in these trials, and you can do them with whoever you want, however you want, as many times a day as you want. Your progress is yours alone, is not deferred by any sort of player determination, and isn't dependent on anyone but you and your willingness to do these things. If you really wanted, you could have every slot unlocked and filled with at least a T1 in a couple of days. Days, not weeks, not months.
Yes, it's better when it's the devs in charge of it, but that doesn't make it different. -
Quote:I'm going to single that out. That's the same thing as DKP.Every time you walk away from one of these, you have iXP, threads, components,
DKP is points you collect and spend on an item when you have enough.
Threads, components, iXP is the same thing. Stuff you're collecting to make a shiny at the end. -
I'm a Mastermind with no level shift yet. If I even thought about trying these, I'm sure I'd wind up just spending all my time waiting for pet summons to recharge.
-
Back when I played WoW (back when the level cap was still only 60), the focus is all about raiding there. You get with 39 other people and lose for months on end. Sometimes you get a new hat or gloves for your effort, because you've been showing up and losing so often, you earned DKP.
So, I quit WoW and came here, because here, they don't do that nonsense.
Now you're saying that's the new goal? That is not a good thing.
This is a superhero game.
Superman: "That bank is being robbed. If I can make the robber drop some cash on his way out, that should be enough!"
X-Men: "Magneto's going to kill all humans. If we save a couple and he kills everyone else, that's fine."
It doesn't work. -
I'm going to echo what other people are saying.
If you use obsolete equipment to run constantly evolving and updating software, you're going to run into problems eventually. That's life.
People that own 1920's antique cars don't get upset when they walk into AutoZone and can't get the part they want- they want to own an antique, they're going to have to struggle to make repairs or upgrades.
The same applies to computers. Except of course, the timescale is a little different.
You're running an OS version that's so old, the manufacturer doesn't even support it anymore. That should be a hint that it's time to upgrade to something else. Anything else. Vista and Windows 7 come to mine. Or if you don't like M$, Mac OS, hell even Linux with a Windows virtual machine or something. -
You're not alone. Same thing happens to me.
I'm wondering if it's a 32 bit issue, since the last updates. -
My Thugs/Traps has trouble with 2/4. My Necro/Dark however, can take just about anything these days, and this is still without anything Incarnate. Not even a single thing slotted.
AVs give me trouble, but the debuffs from /dark, Dark Servant, and the Lich can cause even an Elite Boss to miss with most attacks. Add the Twilight Grasp from myself and DS, and as long as I have Endurance, I can take most anything.
Although- Illusionists among the Carnies always seem to be able to make me work for it.
So did Lord Recluse when I fought him in the Destiny arc. -
I've been putting a TON of time into my two MM's lately, after a long absence. They're just fun.
While the Mastermind is a master of solo content, I can't do as much of the new Incarnate content alone. So, I've decided to start looking for a group a little. Either an SG, VG (I'll side switch, whatever), or just a semi-consistent group.
Are there any out there recruiting? -
My Mastermind couldn't beat him alone- but he couldn't beat me, either.
What would happen is every time I took my eyes off him to kill a bifrucation there, my minions would go swimming in the lava and die, instead of killing him.
But he could barely touch my health, even with my minions dead. So it got to the point where I had to call in help and have someone just pick off bifrucations while I kept my minions on him, but more importantly, out of the lava.
At that point, I beat him in about 4 seconds.
