  1. Ahhh! nice to see sarcastic skills are still up and running....did you not know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit?

I too sometimes find downtime can be a real pain (UK) here, we have had a lot of downtime this month which has encroached on to folk's playtime somewhat, hopefully when they get most of the last issues faults ironed out we will go back to a couple of hours on a Thursday. I think it's something to do with that the majority of players are sleeping at these times. What bugs me the most - apart of downtimes - is that all of the events are planned for peak playtimes (US) - which is when I'm usually sleeping, I hate missing all the exciting stuff and lag fests.

    Gearsmasher

I find this one of the easiest badges to get, Clockwork bosses will spawn at least 4 baby gears when they die. Bosses are usually found in plenty of TF's and clockwork missions. If I havent got from the above, I usually go to Perez Park like Shred Monkey, Clock bosses can be found in Sky also.
  3. Yesterday I picked up a shard in a radio mission, only the one but that is usually my going rate when doing the incarnate stuff. I really must suck at Baf and Lambda, as other than the shards and a couple of threads all I ever get is a common drops. Think this is probably my luck as I've been playing 7 years and only ever got 3 purple drops in all that time, I suppose 3 is 3 better than none.

    Old school help

Oooo! you have been gone a long time Axetion, first and foremost welcome back.

So much has changed and Fleeting Whisper has covered much of it.

I really do recommend that you start over from scratch with a new character and read everything in game as you go along. Do the tutorial at both start up and the University in Steel Canyon when you reach lvl 10 - the latter will help with learning about building Invention Enhancements, commonly known as IO's. In the early days it took a really long time to reach lvl 50 but things have changed so much since then that getting from level one to fifty now appears to take no time at all, imho.

Hope my twopenn'orth has helped a little. Whatever you do - enjoy!
  5. I found - I always go for the easiest option - that doing a hard reboot worked for me just fine, only had to turn of the computer the once.
  6. Many's the time when healers are up there with the tanker, healing 'it' like billy-ho and ignoring us squisherly, spineless softies at the back, which is one of the reasons I faceplant a lot, I don't think it's because I don't know how to play the AT. I move closer to try and catch some healing and are then within aggro range, we all know the aggro blasters draw.

Still!.....I love the AT and always look forward eagerly to my bright, shiny debt badge, "Every cloud has a silver lining" as my old mum used to say.
  7. Show us the stupid hat.....and why didnt I get one?

There's got to be more than that! Anyone think that a mod might have access to and be willing to share such a statistic?
It would be interesting to know just how many die hard, true faithfuls have been around since day one, continuously (or roughly day one).
Due to get my 78mnth vet reward at the end of this month and very happy to have been around since beta, was late coming to the forums though.

I noticed this also, running the same card as yourself and like you I have the Ultra settings. I thought they had moved the one in IP without telling us. Can easily find the portals in all the other zones though so I don't think it is anything to do with our graphics cards, as everything else is so darn pretty.
  10. Hello and welcome to the forums Atom

I think, though I'm not positive, if you can use them on a trial account , you can use the Help, Broadcast, or the Local buttons above your chat box to communicate with others in game. Usually Broadcasting "I'm new to the game can someone help me please?" usually gets a good response. Providing you can do this, it might be your easiest way to get help in game.

Good luck in all your endeavours and enjoy yourself.

I saw this at the weekend myself in local, I was surprised to say the least, as I've never seen that before. The only spamming via email I'm seeing these days though is on characters I haven't played with for months.
  12. I'm not picky, I'm happy to read everybodies and anybodies post so using the ignore feature in my case is somewhat redundant. Perhaps that is the reason I found the OP's post relevant and totally inoffensive - one could hardly call it a rant or in any way breaking the forum rules, whether anybody could answer his question is or not is somewhat a moot point. Perhaps someone who could help would read this thread - who can say.
  13. Or...select Menu, scroll down to J which will give you all your character information, there is a Badges tab there.
  14. I actually find threads like this useful when the servers are down and the server status is not being updated.

If I cannot log on and before contacting support, I usually check here and the technical support forum to see if others are experiencing the same problem as I. Not only that, reading and participating in a thread like this gives one something to do while waiting to get back in game and builds a sense of camaraderie with others in the same boat. That is until someone comes along that is pompous enough to think they are better informed than others about forum rules and suchlike and decide its time they took it upon themselves to 'educate' them.

It's not a new phenonomen in my experience, it used to be a regular occurance back in the day - try to log on expecting maintenance to have finished, find one is locked out, check server status - ooops! find it's not been updated for a month or more.
  17. Before GR 10 mins max. Since GR, half way through Synapse TF, couldnt clear a defeat all mission, the whole team petitioned and waited 60mins for a GM to show before quitting and going home with a no show from the GM - still waiting for some kind of resolution via email. In the meantime steering well clear of Synapse TF.

Ditto that - too darn lazy at the moment to petition it - will get around to it though when I work up the energy.

This game is expressly stated by Devs to be designed for alts, not for long-term investment in a single character.

This game is unique in the MMO world for how much of the investment in a character is up-front, in character generation. Other MMOs have you "build up" to a particular look, power, and feel for your character. City of Heroes allows you to craft your look and feel, and the direction of your powers, right from level 1.

This game is more about exploring characters and possibilities than other MMOs. This game is not about the grind of levels, the advancement of gear, the swapping of abilities. Characters grow and gain ability, but almost all will still use their low-tier abilities alongside those, while in other MMOs you swap out old abilities for new.

The costume creator is the biggest thing that sets this MMO apart from other games. It is the single most powerful marketing tool the game has; the single most powerful feature for drawing people away from other games. Needlessly hampering that feature, even in minor ways, just because you're not sure this new customer might be "loyal enough" (represented by veteran time) is simply bad business.

Comparing City of Heroes to "other MMOs" is a serious slight to City of Heroes. This is not other MMOs. It's something better.
Seems to me it's a bit like 'sour grapes' - if you subscribe to and play the game long enough you will be entitled to all the vet (costume pieces) that you want. Why get all sulky about something you will get that only requires a bit of patience (and the relevant subs) on your part to acquire?

The COH/IE linking off the updater is baked in and AFAIK unchangeable. However, the COH site works with FF, IE, Chrome, and various mobile media browsers (iPhone, Palm Pre, etc).

So just getting to the root of your issue, ARE you updating Flash from www.adobe.com's website in IE8 under Win7, 64 bit?
Not updating no, I have installed it and there is a proviso there that it won't work with in a 64bit browser, apparently there is a 64bit beta version that you can download but I am always a bit of a wuss using beta stuff. I did have the flash player installed on my previous old computer and never had any probs, so naturally I wanted it when I upgraded earlier this month. Anyhow, following the advice in this forum has enabled me to use flash as I wanted keep Firefox as my default browser and leave IE to do it's own thing and not having any probs with CoH either.

@everybody, thanks so much for going out of you way to help and advise, it is much appreciated.
