Blaster / Scrapper mentality
I really dont think there is a specific mentality because the reality I have found is that most people play more than one specfic AT.
One thing i always do when I am running a team is to see what powerset people are playing and usually I will VERY nicely suggest how to proceed. usually when people see that teamwork helps move the pace along better and keep the xp flowing they will tend to flow together better..
Remember this as well.. Individuals are often intelligent.. PEOPLE are stupid.
The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.
If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-
Sounds like you ran into some especially stupid players rather than any flaw in the AT.
You don't have to play a blaster to run into a room like an idiot and die, any AT can do that just as well.

I'd comment more, but I am busy running back to the mission from the hospital.
It is possible the damage dealers were used to teams where the tanker moves quicker than the team and two defenders would usually be enough to handle the spillover. If those things fail to happen, you usually have to slow down as a damage dealer (or die more often).
Maybe they either did not know how to handle slower teams or they just did not care.
Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.

To the op, there is a guide specifically for these circumstances. Little bit old now, but very good.

I can be found, outside of paragon city here.
Thank you everyone at Paragon and on Virtue. When the lights go out in November, you'll find me on Razor Bunny.
I was in a Sister P the other day with a Tank, 3 blasters, 2 scrappers, 1 defender and me, it was like kindergarten with a bunch of A.D.D crack babies. Blasters constantly attacking stuff before anyone is ready, scrappers constantly going the other way and dying. It got to the point we had ressed 2 of the blasters 11 and 8 times by the second mission ( run ahead bu/aim then blast, eat return alpha then face plant ).

The Bacon Compels You.
I take it back, I did a Posi last night on me new DP/Dev and ran into a room to try out my new Bullet Rain, then immediately face planted, much shame that was fun heh.
The last 3 groups I have been on have had at least 1 very suicidal blaster, is this common blue side? Or was I just unlucky. ( played mostly Red the last few years ) |
Dumb players are dumb players and they're definitely not exclusive to blue side.
This just in: some players are bad. Film at 11.
Suicidal Blasters are indeed somewhat common. Blasters can draw an awful lot of aggro, and it takes a bit of skill to use one to full effect on a team without faceplanting (depending on the team, with enough buffs or control everyone's virtually immortal anyway so it doesn't matter). Plus some Blaster players simply don't care about debt... if they can take a dozen mobs with them they're willing to go kamikaze (especially if someone has a rez power). I've occasionally faceplanted due to Blasterlock (a faster paced, more suicidal version of Scrapperlock) on a Fire Blaster... it's easy to lose track of your health when you are burning down massive hordes, and it only takes a couple of seconds for a Blaster to go from fine to dead.
That said, multiple deaths per Blaster per mission are pretty rare unless the team is outmatched or the Blaster is just a little nuts. Which some are... for instance, consider that Rise of the Phoenix does more damage than Nova and has a full minute lower recharge time. Fully slotted, RotP is essentially a second nuke... you can jump into a massive mob, hit Inferno, die, and then hit Rise of the Phoenix to essentially double nuke them, stun the survivors, and end up with half an endurance bar instead of the normal full crash. If that isn't tempting, you aren't a real Blaster player...
Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

The Scavenger Hunt: 187076
The Instant Lair Delivery Service: 206636
Many's the time when healers are up there with the tanker, healing 'it' like billy-ho and ignoring us squisherly, spineless softies at the back, which is one of the reasons I faceplant a lot, I don't think it's because I don't know how to play the AT. I move closer to try and catch some healing and are then within aggro range, we all know the aggro blasters draw.
Still!.....I love the AT and always look forward eagerly to my bright, shiny debt badge, "Every cloud has a silver lining" as my old mum used to say.
There is always a lot to be thankful for, if you take the time to look. For example, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt. ~Author Unknown

Damned Stryker, i think you have just given me a new character ((Light streams down from heaven, er, up from hell, angelic sound, que dramatic music))
And why does it involve doing seriously stupid things all the time. I am not trying to start a flame war, but wow.

It got to the point we had ressed 2 of the blasters 11 and 8 times by the second mission ( run ahead bu/aim then blast, eat return alpha then face plant ). The defender and I were so disgusted and stressed out we both quit within 5 seconds of each other and started our own TF. The next one had a single blaster who was not on the previous TF and he did the exact same thing in the first room before any of us had even entered the mission!!
