Whatever this Vet Award is we can be pretty safe to assume it'll be one of two things:

1) So relatively trivial that people will whine that it's not "worth" being a high level Vet Award.
2) So relatively cool that people will whine that it's not fair that only the "old timers" get to have it.

The chances that it'll be something that's both fairly cool and well accepted for being cool is sitting on a razor's edge.

You get the "Old Geezer" badge and a new temp power "Bottle Of Geritol". Once every 24 hours it gives you the ability to force a group of enemies (up to 10) to stop and do the puke animation while broadcasting "OH MY GOD! He/She smells like mothballs!"

Well.. I'm only a 51 month vet at this point, so I don't really get to laugh about vet badges.

I get 3 characters well over 900 badges each, and it'll never be enough.

Actually, we KNEW.

(j/k though, I actually just doublechecked the vet rewards page and noted that all of my dates were changed, past and present, to the 28th. Which is funny, cuz I started with the headstart weekend on the 25th, but who's counting in MY favor, huh? )

Well for what's it's worth I've never really agreed with the way Vet badges were implemented in this game. I don't think they should have ever been linked to characters and considered "badges" in the first place. It's not like any of my characters know they are in a game to begin with.

And that's coming from someone who's going to have the 78th month badge on the 28th of October - the ACTUAL 78th month anniversary of this game...

Well according to the pesky rules the Devs bothered to establish regarding Vet Awards Headstart was never supposed to count toward Vet Award seniority anyway. April 28th, 2004 was the official start of the game, period. Just one of -those- things I guess...

I technically started playing this game on the 25th also. But the Devs wrote the rules on Vet Awards to dismiss the Headstart period as valid time. Who knows why - probably fairer to everyone that way.

Like you say those 3 days don't ultimately matter much either way, especially when game doesn't really strictly follow its own rules regarding Vet dates to begin with...

Yeah.. I remember there being an announcement about it a while back, but when Turg asked me about it earlier, I couldn't find the documentation. I couldn't find it in the News forums anyway. I wonder if it was just something that was quickly thrown into the /GMOTD for a couple days. I dunno. I seem to be the only one that remembers it. lol

That's what I get for listening to Turg.. He told me his 75 month badge was still awarded early, so I was only looking for announcements within the last 3 months. I was pretty sure it was longer than that. I also only searched the News and Announcement section. It didn't occur to me to search the Tech forum for some reason. Maybe I figured I'd only get the 1000 other threads with people that were having the Veteran Issues to begin with. lol
