I'm pretty sure there are some reasonably quiet spots in PD as well. Stairwells, etc.
  2. Going along the lines of others. Give us a combination of chances and time restrictions.

Give us like 3-5 chances (in say an initial popup, once per site visit) to either do what we want at the time or proceed to make the necessary changes/confirmations. Make this affect Everything tied to the Titan site. If possible, make it so I it's smart enough so I don't have to do this on each of the different branch sites when I login to them. Mind you I don't fully understand Cookies in this sense, but perhaps set the cookies to expire at the end of the time restriction.
  3. Try clicking that box at the login that says something like "link to account" and see what happens.

I was just about to mention that you might wanna kill Steam before gaming until someone bothers to inform us when the issue has been resolved.

And it effects one person and then someone with an identical machines, drivers, everything it doesn't. About a year and a half ago I did finally get rid of it. But it took an all new computer with top of the line video and that to get rid of it. Wish I had better news, sorry and GL.

O also I did find and still do if there are a lot of fire effects going on it makes it way worse.
Pssst, there's a big memory leak sitting on your HDD, it's called Windows. ;-)

Leave the legacy system in place, but flatout state that NO MORE WORK is going to be done on it... EVER. If you love your base to pieces and don't want to use the new system, fine - but don't grouse that it's not getting any more support.

At any time, you can switch to using the NEW system, but you cannot revert to the old one - once you upgrade, it's gone, too bad.

Ideally a transition period (IE: something extremely lengthy) would be the way to go. Having both run parallel while the base builders do whatever needs to be done in the meantime. What I'd love to see (if it's even possible) is a way to atleast room-by-room copy/paste the base builds. This would allow tweaking as you go. Lastly, for the love of *pick a word, really...*, give us back our more realistic base storage options. Is it really that difficult/resource intensive to put the limits back up to what they were? It's a number, not physical storage...

Obviously, any changes will likely result in some data leakage as atleast I've observed in the costume creator over time. But the upside is that we'd get less buggy (one would hope) bases and room for improvement.

Wait a tic, what are you two doing in the corner?
  8. I don't have the link, but I know we've covered this before and this was what I said before:

If that's not enough for you, then get another account or five. :-p
  9. I'm pretty sure that this would make my (and others) "fire" toons rather perturbed as it would be like hitting the mute button on each attack so to speak. Fire just seems more menacing that Heat. What sounds more deadly, burning your hand in the Fire or scaulding your hand in the Heat?
  10. I would check your temps and if those are high, then check your fans, and last resort double check your thermal paste jobs.

Had to do it this way because it was getting ridiculous trying to cram all those buttons (or equivalent text) into the measily sig space.
Because you haven't invested in that Null Time Pocket I told you about...tsk, tsk.

Heat may be an issue, it does get very hot when playing a movie or game.

What I'm experiencing is this, intense, I guess video lag. If I push e to turn, and hold E until I start turning (usually takes 1 or two seconds) then the toon does a 90 degree turn instead of just turning right. FPS is very abysmal, what you might expect from an old school hami raid in terms of FPS.

When I run the game in safe mode though, responsiveness shoots up to normal, which is what keeps bringing me back to it being a driver issue.
I'm not sure if you've ever wandered the HP forums, but you'll note a few things about these laptops. Firstly, I'd check and see if your laptop was part of that battery recall. Second, there are known thermal issues with the nVidia chips that are so promenant that I've had three repairs done across three machines as well as there actually being a service offered on ebay JUST for this issue. I run the GPU Meter gadget and with just the browser open I see it settle around 54C. If I'm ingame it'll hike up past 60C and I've seen it go Over 80C during trials. Needless to say I'm not playing much until I get the last bit of money for my desktop build.

Not to sound stupid, but what exactly did you do to accomplish this? Did you wipe the drive and completely reinstall windows? Did you run a system restore disc that wiped the drive for you and reinstalled windows? Or perhaps did you do the 2nd and it simply repaired the windows installation? IE: it didn't wipe, but instead it reverted the registry to the original state. CoH is 'special' and not designed to run the same way that 'other games' do. What works for most won't always work here.

This for my machine and Computer Associates (or anything you actually pay for for that matter) for my parents machine. That said, I'm always a hair's breath from installing a condom on dad's NIC cable.

    New Video Driver

I'm guessing that your Linux install is at the beginning of the drive? Is there any chance that having the Windows side of things closer to the end of the platter is causing the issue? My thinking an increase in seek times, etc.

I'm running an older Intel version of that line with 3Gb usable RAM and a 256Mb GeForce Go 7600 with no probs and I'm on even older drivers. I'd check your temps, etc and see where you're going from there. BTW, within the driver settings and even within the windows power management settings there are options that will intentionally reduce the performance of your machine while it's under load. You might look into setting everything for Maximum Performance (as opposed to Power Saving) and see how it goes. Just remember that you're obviously sacrificing battery life.

Perhaps you could elaborate on what exactly you're feeling is inferior experience wise.
  16. if the rig was purchased that way and you're not a 'tinkerer' like some of us, then by all means don't mess with it to be safe. I dont' know what to look for when it comes to steam, but with many problems listed this year alone, I concure with the rest. Somewhere in the forums there is a guide to graphics settings. I'd look that up so you can get an idea of what to turn up/down and to what levels.

Anyway, no. But I am familiar with some of the most absolutely basic programming concepts.
The part of the concept that you're missing/unaware of is that none of the original programmers who worked on the bases are still employed at said company anymore and, like in many cases, they didn't consider properly documenting things from what I've heard over the years. Just about any change that has been attempted afterwards seems to result in serious negative ripples. At this point, it would take a complete rewrite of the code along with the extremely likelyhood of LOSING all existing bases in the process.

  19. I haven't a clue based on the specs, but that rig 'feels' like it's been OC'd. Since CoX uses hardware differently than Skyrim, then perhaps that's related?

just showing when the player was last online would be a great way of telling if they even play the game anymore, if the person hasnt been on in 3-5 years its possible they wont come back
Does anyone even use that Server/Local friend thing anymore? When I first started I did, but once I caught on to globals I sorta let those lists slide. Perhaps we could kill that and use the memory space for added Globals?
  21. I can't quantify anything, but the game does feel more stable with >2Gb of ram. Taking into consideration that XP uses something like 512Mb-768Mb on its own and the game can easily nab 1.5Gb now a days. If anything it'll give your system some breathing room even if it's stuck using 3.0Gb-3.5Gb of the 4Gb physical.

Lastly follow Hyper's guide here to provide us with more info about your setup and game settings. It's cuts down the need to play 20 questions.
Until you follow this, then we won't know if it's from browser ram hogging or something as simple as corrupted graphics drivers.
