Minute and a half for 'go to AE and load a craft map instead of running to Steel Canyon' was a bit much, but it's a good tip. I have been going to Steel Canyon lol...

There are these commercials on the radio where some person starts talking as if they were a radio personality. Like they're going to trick me into paying attention.
One that I've heard before and am hearing again lately is some lady advertising for people to buy gold coins, and she talks about it like we already want them. "I'll give you the number to call... but first listen to this...". That station loses a listener for about an hour to youtubeloop.com or my music folder whenever that commercial starts to play. If I'm in my car I will change stations or turn the radio off rather than hear commercials.
I don't own a TV and can't comment there.
I loathe commercials on the internet other than movie/game trailers. I do not watch videos that force a commercial first EVER not even on Youtube 'skip in 5sec' anymore (I use a third party site to view youtube vids without commercials. The only exception I make is for BBC news, but they're on thin ice because they have a tendantcy to put long commercials in front of short vids, and they play the same ONE commercial over and over. -
lol staff meeting...
I'm down for next saturday (28th IIRC) but I usually work on weekend nights so I won't be a regular. -
I think of PvP as something to go do with a perfected character. Something I really like, consider to be at full strength, with which know what I want to do in PvP, and it is ready to go do that (has the rest of it's intended team). I have no such character at this time, and when I start new characters it's for fun and thematic reasons so they don't fit with what I'd want to PvP on.
Quote:Actual MMOs that were designed from the ground up to be a "pvp/free-for-all" type of MMO never last long...
So no real point to having a "pvp only" server for CoH.
Just saying
Nonsense. EVE and DAoC are some of the longest running out there. EVE is doing fantastic, and DAoC is an even better example because it did HORRIBLE. I played DAoC from very early on and have gone back to it several times. They have always had cheating problems, balance issues, every expansion made the game WORSE, and it was still popular and active in PvP zones past eight years, with players begging for more PvP.
An MMORPG is an RPG game, played with others. Most RPG games don't have an 'end game', they just show you 'GAME OVER' and that's it. You're done. Obviously players aren't happy with that and they want an 'end game', but that doesn't work for a classic MMORPG because classic MMORPGS don't have true game play to begin with. They are enjoyable because you're playing a role in a team, building a character, and/or going through a story which is all just pushing through content, and you can't make content faster than players play it (See Architect Entertainment... the dev's know what I'm talking about and they have a good bid to get around it with AE...).
To satisfy players we have learned over time that a next gen MMORPG game must be one of two things to not flop:
1) Engaging to play. Some degree of active blocking, strategizing, aiming, etc. You also have other genres that can lean in like Planetside 2 (MMOFPS) to get both engaging gameplay and MMO building/progressing by adding gameplay from the other genre already proven as engaging... a PvP shooter format...
2) PvP. As demonstrated by EVE and DAoC, if your RPG end game is PvP you don't need to generate as much content. Players will clash over and over again in PvP, and it's only a matter of balance. Individual (1v1) balance is usually the focus of players but from a development standpoint it is much better and much easier to balance from a team perspective (which EvE and DAoC both do.). This lets you have a definable 'GAME OVER' just like a regular RPG, and still have something to go do with your completed character to show it off, compare it with others, or just keep your story going. The Secret World looks to be going this way.
The holy grail would have both (Guildwars 2 is the only example I know of) -

Quote:This. The Dark Knight Rises will make more money at the box office. Probably a lot more, unless it turns out to be terrible. And even then it will probably still make more, it's following a billion dollar movie. Apart from the first Iron Man, the films leading up to the Avengers have been kind of mediocre.
Batman has MUCH better trailers, too.

Every time I come back to CoH, sooner or later it surprises me all over again that there's still no headphones detail option!
I have a concept I have wanted to do for a long time that needs them and it eventually pops back into my head when I hear certain songs! I am not happy with the currently available ways to fake it, like receiver ear covers and such. -
I don't have a link handy, but the range of time you had to remain active was early December straight through April 18th, and you get a pair of helmets. Not exactly Statemsan and Recluse, but that kind of style. I think they said the helms were "Influenced by" them.

Quote:Your message must be at least 2 characters.Well then you might wanna word your OP a bit better. The topic implies only a single one, but you say "The Sky RaiderS", without mentioning a specific member of the group.
-
I really meant one specific NPC model, like I've seen people in atlas who were Rikti and things like that, but it's no big deal. If you want ALL the Tsoo, I'm confident that my hypothetical dev is awesome enough to give you ALL the Tsoo! If you just want the dress, my hypothetical dev will just make her stand there in her underwear.
It's probably Dink. Definitely not the pic swiping Zwil! -
MM comments tend to funnel towards bots/FF. Lots of defense, pets are good for ranged attacks, bubble is good for keeping things at range. Damage is good and not smash/lethal.
-
If a Dev offered you the NPC costume of your choice, what would you take?
Personally I like the sky raiders. I know they're not as epic as some of the other NPC's out there, but I don't always want crazy epic. My main rerolled to FF/BR, and I think it would be hilarious to be just a shield generator floating around with lasers coming out of it! O.o -
Wouldn't you rather have whips as a melee/range mixed attack set for Doms, and/or a melee set?
EDIT--
Well you did say it was an example of the concept, didn't you.
Available-to-all attack sets sounds good to me overall. I would love to have the option on my scrapper to bust out a machine gun or pair of pistols sometimes My VEAT's story has him working with elemental magic, and I'd love to give him a few fire/ice powers.
I do worry about MM's though. Their attacks are so much worse than everyone else's. How do you make, for example, a melee attack pool available to both a MM and a Blaster, and have it not be totally useless to the blaster or blatantly overpowered to the MM? -
Quote:All of this can be done with existing ability types, using the MM archetype. Instead of an AT buff when pets are near, you just give the pets themselves in a new MM primary, a buff aura.Perhaps, if anything, a sort of Warlord Archetype would involve pets without making them the center focus- perhaps doing away with one of the buffs involved in the process in order to make room for more offensive capabilities unrelated to Henchmen.
Also, perhaps an Inherent that works like a reverse Supremacy; for whenever your Henchmen are near, you get a buff.
There is no point making a new AT that needs all new power sets, when you could make more power sets for an existing AT (The MM) and get the same gameplay while retaining a support set, and giving more primary sets to an AT that is already low on sets. -
A Melee MM (or any other MM-like ideas) don't really require a new AT.
The pets can cast their own abilities, so you don't ever need any extra power slots or different secondary options to get new styles of powers.
Instead of running those defense/resist toggles from your suggested AT's new powerset, you just have the pets in a new MM primary do something to buff the users defense. Passive auras from the pets, leadership-like toggles, short duration buffs... set to case on MM+Pets, MM only, or whole group, as balance dictates. -
Quote:lol...We'll never get them tho as they're made up of two capes and because someone apparently is still playing on a 286 with a 9600 baud modem, we can't get two capes on our chars.
And +1 /signed for more lower body options.
Loin cloth, long dress, long robe... -
I don't care as long as they don't falsely advertise.
If you are playing a 'concept build' tanker that is missing something, does not wish to play as a front line tank, or is not capable of truly tanking... I expect to see that in your lfg info or be informed of it if you send me a tell to join a group. If I invite you knowing that, it's on me as a group leader. If you join as 'the tank' then we get in and you can't tank that's all on you.
Sounds like common sense but it has come up. -
Quote:No. You don't want to go that way.Given that the minimum for point purchases is $5 for 400, I'm personally not seeing the effect of giving away 40 or so points opposed to those who want free game time or monetary reimbursement.
She will counter with uneven pricing where a small number of points can mean both that, a person no longer has to buy a block of points to get one costume piece, and that a person no longer has to buy a block of points when they are only a few points away from what they want. In these cases, your small quantity of points goes UP in financial effect.
You want to go with implications of free samples. -
-
Impartial third party here.
Aggelakis is right, and it's not an opinion situation.
Giving away something that must otherwise be bought, clearly has a financial effect when people no longer need to buy it.
Your next move should should probably be 'free samples' logic to balance. -
Leadership.
If your entire team took Assault that's 80-120% damage for everyone at all times... still amazes me every time I log on that no one takes assault.
Ever since CoV I always wanted to get some friends and do a lowbie corruptor group. Several /rad with hasten doing perma AM from very early on, one FF, and the rest thermal or sonic to Cap everyone's defense and resist while all running assault and blasting. When I first thought about it we needed a MM for /FF, but today you could do a FF/ Defender in the same group. -
Quote:Contradiction. The argument to your first sentence, is your second sentence. The problem I have with this is that having it in super packs isn't actually any more *exclusive* than having it in the store - either way it's still available to the same set of people. The only difference is that in the super pack case it's held hostage to the RNG and will (on average) cost more points.
Quote:I agree that it's fairly obvious that the *vet reward* system was meant to provide exclusive access to stuff. However, the paragon rewards program isn't the old vet rewards system, and I don't think you can necessarily assume that that's still the intended purpose given the changes that have taken place. As you note, you *can* buy tokens now, so the idea of exclusivity is already heavily dented. I don't know if you can definitely say if the intent is *not* to have exclusive things, but I don't think you can be sure that it *is* their intent either since I don't think the devs have said either way what their purpose actually is.
My first though is that I would rather T9 sets just stayed T9, but in fairness and in acceptance of what has already been changed, I must acknowledge that the game is a bit old already, and that's a lot of tokens to go through for a new player. I'm not sure T9 really has it's place anymore. I feel super packs would be an acceptable compromise for the reasons above. Available, but still exclusive to a degree. Not a statement or demand, just opinion and feedback. -
So confused.
I thought downtime for updates and maintenance were WHAT I WAS PAYING FOR all these years. How do I deserve compensation for getting what I paid for? If I wasn't paying for people to take the servers down and do updates and maintenance, what was I paying for?
Why am I riding a horse?

What would a vehicle AT bring to gameplay?
If they bothered to make vehicles I would expect them to be their own powers that any character could use, not an AT. Probably a power pool added after power pool customization is possible like:
1 Missile - You use a remote control to have your vehicle fire a missile and strike your target! Ground targetted AoE with low max targets, like 3. 2min timer. (Vehicle not visible if not toggled on, effect just happens 'comes from somewhere else'.)
2 Swarm Missile - You use a remote control to have your vehicle fire a small group of homing missiles that fly to you and orbit you for up to Xseconds until they acquire a target, fly to it, and detonate. (Seekers style attack.) 4min timer. (Vehicle not visible if not toggled on, effect just happens 'comes from somewhere else'.)
3 Ground Vehicle - Choice of ground vehicle in powers customization, move speed increase, jump alteration (Lowered height, unaffected speed so you get the arc you'd expect from a vehicle jump) and can't use your offensive powers (just run your defensive toggles). Can use powers 1 and 2 from this set, and the timers are reduced to 6 and 12 seconds.
4 V-TEC JUST KICKED IN YO - Afterburner type power to cap all travel speeds except jump, and add a Repel aura so you can hit things and send them flying! ^^
5 Flying Vehicle - Choice of air vehicle, see #3, but it flies.
