Here is the data chunk for a soft-capped Fire/FF/Mace Controller. The defense values are a percentage or two less, but still fully soft-capped vs Ranged, AOE, S/L and Energy.

Here is my current Fire/Force Field build, using the new Mids' planner. I haven't yet looked into the Villain APPs, but this build as-is soft-caps Ranged and AOE defense. It also supplies 25.6% smashing/lethal defense, which I bet with the villain epic you could soft-cap that as well.

All,
Since there was a bug with the online store being down, which therefore prevented me from using my slots I had already paid for months ago, I stayed up working out my builds for my 3 Electric Control characters. Two of them are Controllers and one is a Dominator. All are perma-hasten because, well, why not?Anyway, I always make my perma-hasten and/or uber builds in such a way that the exact same slotting I'd use to be uber will also suffice with cheap sets and SOs.
What Electric Control type builds are you planning, if any?

Quote:I wouldn't say mad. I'm totally cool with it going live early. However, I was planning on getting a lowbie villain, who cant be Praetorian for concept reasons, up to level 22 tonight so I'd be all set to dive in to getting tips.Ironically if GR/I18 actually went live today instead of tomorrow there would probably be a few people out there who'd genuinely be mad because they were expecting one more day of "pre-GR" playtime.
So not mad. Just slightly flustered as my priorities have to change.

St0n3y,
Thanks for all the hard work on the program in the past. Best wishes for the future. I find messing around in Mids' to be as compelling as actually playing the game, and a lot of that is because of you.
Lewis -
The damage over time of Plant's AOE Immobilize is significant. It is significant enough to slot for damage and use it in that capacity on a regular basis (after the foes clump up a bit). Therefore I would advise you to cast the Immob anyway.
As for whether you can get drops from foes that are defeated when they never take damage from you, well I don't know. I always do at least some damage to everything.
Lewis -
Thanks. Guess I'll just deal with the lag in my SG base and the RWZ base.
Lewis -
Quote:This affects me and I'm wondering if there is a workaround? Also, the following issues exist both with the CURRENT live client, and with the Training Room client:
- Heavy lag in high-texture zones like RWZ, SG bases, and Pocket D.
I've seen it on my Mac Mini for sure (the new Mac Mini). I run OS X Snow Leopard (Server version but with all the server stuff disabled) with 2.66 core 2 duo and 4 gb of ram and an nvidia geforce 320m.
I dont have the issue on my iMac which is running Leopard, but unfortunately I *just* committed to upgrading it to Snow Leopard when I happened to decide to look in the Mac forums here and I saw this.
So I'm suddenly worried I wont be able to do stuff in the RWZ anymore. Guess I'll know in a half hour or so.
Thanks,

I would go with another Ill/Rad. You get double AM (Accelerate Metabolism) for more recharge and recovery and damage, etc. You also get 2 sets of Phantom Army, so you can always have them out, even if you guys are only SOs.
If that doesn't do it for you, then you might consider a controller with an AOE Immobilize as a team-mate. Again, I think double Rads would be best, but the AOE Immob from another controller would let the Illusion/Rad leverage containment from his Ancillary AOE attack(s). Fire/Rad would be nice for this. Additionally, you'd have Stuns to add in the mix for the foes that resist the confuse and fear from Illusion.
You could always go with a Traps/* Defender. With Going Rogue coming out in a couple of days, you could also do a */Traps Corruptor or */Traps mastermind. I think the quasi-control-heavy nature of Traps would blend well with Rad, not to mention all the debuff goodness. Then you'd have straight out damage from whatever you pair with Traps.
You could just decide that the control from Illusion/Rad is enough and then go with an all-out damage AT (Scrapper, Blaster, Brute).
Actually, you could probably pair it with anything and have fun, especially if you are doing a duo with a friend. Whatever he wants to do will work.
Oh, if you are dual-boxing, Traps may not be the best option because it requires a lot more effort (if you are driving the Illusion/Rad). In that case, Illusion/Rad or Fire/Rad or maybe Illusion/FF or a */FF Mastermind would be good "auto follow" dual-boxing options.

Nope. I'm moving 4 characters from Protector to Pinnacle. Both are super low population servers, but I kinda like it that way.
Lewis -
I havent read the responses and I'm sad that I'm so late. I hope the devs read all these.
I really want alternate animations for Pets. Specifically Fire Imps. I don't even want new animations. I just think the Fire Imps are too theme-locked. It would be nice if we could get tiny versions of the Singularity animation for the Fire Imps, so you could get 3 red glowing singularity spheres for them. That way, more "science" or "fey" type controller concepts would work. Or they could even use the ones they have now for the Vet pets that look like will-o-the-wisps. If they have time to make new animations that look like flying orbs of fire, then cool, but existing animations would be fine.
I feel the same way about all the Ice Swords and Fire Swords. They are all so theme-locked. It would be nice if we could get an animation that would flare or glow or spew out of your hands, while the same movement animation of the skeleton was happening, just so that if elemental weapons dont fit your concept for Ice Melee or Fire Melee or Ice Assault, well you could still make the same chopping/stabbing motions, but elemental material would just be spraying out from your hands or surrounding them.
I would also want to see non-high-tech options on the Traps and Trick Arrows and Devices powers, so that it would make sense to have them for an Elf or Magic character without having to stretch the imagination so far.
Thanks,
Lewis -
That just makes them villains that havent been sent to the Zig yet.
Anyway, I dont get into those motivations for "heroes" either.
If it wasnt clear, the types of motivations I enjoy lend themselves more to the heroic. The motivations I consider tolerable for Villains I only consider to be barely tolerable. Now that I have the opportunity to stop pretending my villain AT guys have reasons that I can accept for their villain status, I plan to do so.
Lewis -
I have all my Villains on one server and all my Heroes on another. I moved 14 Villains to my Hero server back around Christmas time when the transfer was free. I have 3 more I plan to do with the new transfer thing coming up. I created one villain from scratch at level 1 who will cross over (but who can't do Praetoria for concept reasons)
So I'll then have the delightful tedium of doing the tips and alignment junk for ... 18 characters. Sheesh.
To be honest, I dont get into Villains much in terms of character motivations. Well, I'm ok with "mercenary" and "mistaken categorization" and "undercover hero" and "total insanity". I have a harder time with Greed, Power, and Control type stuff. So in a way, I would like to move all my Villains over, except the 3 or 4 that I consider too insane.
The problem with that is that I'm already at 36 characters on my Hero server on my main account, and over 30 on the other 2 accounts (after factoring in the server moves mentioned above) and yet I still have over a dozen villains on my villain server.
So unless they bump the max slots to 50 or 60, I'll have to keep my Villains on the Villain server.
Lewis -
I think anything works for a Wizard except /Trick Arrow. If you can ignore the tech look of the various arrows, you could still go with /Trick Arrow, especially if you are a High Elf wizard with a Long Bow.
I think Illusion/Storm has the most Wizard-like feel, followed closely by Illusion/Cold and Illusion/Thermal. But again, all of them work well except perhaps /TA, just because the "Wizard Hat" is a very big hat.
Lewis -
Well, I personally can't even take one step into Outbreak (or Breakout or Praetoria) until I'm planned to level 50, so getting it before Tuesday would be nice.
But of course, whenever its ready will be fine.Gracious of me, yes?
Lewis -
I am experiencing Excitement and Dread in equal measure.
Electric Control, new characters, new plans, juggling characters, new content, bringing characters to the other side, free server transfers for 1 server path ... all good stuff.
But on the down side I have 17 characters to cross over, and while they are on different accounts, that is a LOT of work. And anytime a game seems like work, well ... woof. missions + 9 tip missions + alignment mission + more missions + 9 tip missions + alignment mission = WOOF. Then multiply it by 17, or at least by 6 or 7 (assuming I do some multiboxing).
Jeez!
Also, I have a personal obligation to myself to have every Storm controller at level 50, but I hated the interaction of Electric Control and Storm Summoning. So that's a character I "have" to slog through. Meh.
Lewis -
Quote:I agreed with your entire post except this one. I rate Earth Control the #1 or maybe #2 set at worst, whereas I consider Electric Control to be blandly in the middle of the pack, and occasionally unreliable.- Overall power score: approximately equivalent to Earth Control.
Basically, I think Electric Control is a fine and interesting set, but equal to Earth Control? No Way. Then again, the things I like about Earth Control are woefully absent from Electric Control; whereas you may not care about them.
But great overall synopsis.
Lewis -
Thanks!
I notice that any *villains* who do the patron arc get the patron powers, but if you switch back to a non-villain, can you use the builds with patron powers in them?
Hmm. Blah.
Lewis -
Ah I wish I'd waited a few more minutes. I found it at ParagonWiki.
http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/APP_Proliferation
That's too bad. I was hoping for something controller-ish like Shiver. Freakin' Ice Blast.
"Omega Quadrant? Lame!"
Well maybe this thread can become a discussion on how best to use the Blaster (*spit*) APPs. How do you plan to use them?
Lewis -
All,
I saw that the NDA was lifted and that Masterminds will be getting Blaster Patrons. Ugh, that's awful (mostly).
Still, I cant help but think there are some awkward redundancies in which you could take the same power twice. For example, a /Storm MM could take Snow Storm from both Storm Summoning and Cold Mastery. A /FF MM could take PFF, Repulsion Bomb, and Repulsion Field from both FF and Force Mastery.
Are they just going to leave those redundant or are they swapping in other powers?
Thanks,
Lewis -
My Earth/Storm controller has about 9 damage procs or so in her powers (specifically in AOEs). It is pretty cool.
Lewis
EDIT: here is my Perma-Hasten Earth/Storm with 8 damage procs and 3 other (non-damage) procs:

No worries. I will say that I do with Controllers got Rain of Fire. It will be nice to get it on the Dominators I bring over.
Lewis -
I have the same experiences as many of the other testers. It is a lot like Ice Control in that it doesn't really have a reliable opener or reliable control, but you can work it. It also has pathetic damage. I will say that when SOLO you can get pretty reliable control opening with the AOE Sleep and then moving in for the Chain Confuse. The Chain Confuse is the closest thing the set has to reliability. I think having some stealth might make it easier to open without the sleep.
I mainly played Electric/FF and Electric/Sonic on test. I really liked both, and I LOVED Elec/Sonic back with the Aura had damage due to the stacking resist debuffs. But ... Oh Well!I still love Elec/FF just because the bad guys whiffing while your various controls do their their thing, well its kinda nice. I also tried Elec/Storm and didn't care for it.
I expect that on Live, I'll do Elec/Storm (just because I already have every Storm controller at 50 so I need to complete my set). And while Elec/Storm was not fantastic, it had some interesting aspects.
However, on Live I will also make Elec/FF because I enjoyed it so much. I am also strongly inclined to try Elec/TA and Elec/Rad, just because they will shore up the mediocre / unreliably control of Electric Control.
For Doms, I am thinking Elec/Psi, Elec/Energy, or both.
Lewis -
I've played Earth/Psi to 40 and I find it to be a lot of fun. Of course, while Earth Control *can* be played from range, I have a tendency, even on Earth Controllers, to get in close. So for me, Earth/Psy was a great match.
