Hellowie!
Well, after much decision making, weighing the pros and cons, I have decided!
Illusion Control - Sonic Resonance.
I will make a Gravity Control -Trick Arrow Controller too, but just not yet. I always wanted to give Illusion a go. There isn't one build here though
Thnaks all!
The Rot Hood.

Have fun with your shiny new controller RH!
If you have any questions re: Illusion control, I'll be more than happy to help. -
[ QUOTE ]
I must say though, Sonic Resonance looks quite tasty, since you have the debuffs and shields.
Don't! Really. I mean it!
[/ QUOTE ]
I swear I was not thinking of you when I posted that :P. No way...
-
For the love of God, please no!
My ice controller has FF as a secondary, and it's just a] not good at all for soloing, and b] plain boring - especially if you're like me who prefers debuffing etc, as opposed to "fire-and-forget" types.

... but i suppose it will not affect other players, true? they will still here my chicken voice arent they?
[/ QUOTE ]
That's correct - they will still hear the sounds. -
I think it's happened with quiet a few controller/dominator powers and it's been reported as a bug and will be fixed in a future patch.
There is this thread which claims to fix the problem - but use at your own risk!
Also, it's been said that using Hover/Fly when using Blind from the Illusion control set, will get rid of the screaming effect, so I assume it will work on the other "screaming" powers.
But as a guaranteed temporary solution, just turn the volume off when you play until they do fix it. It'd be a shame to delete a character just because of the sound of it's powers! -

They don't sound very friendly -
Looking good LP, from both the plant side and the psi side - I have similar slotting for my toons.
Personally I think vines works better as an "Oh crap" power than a sleep, so it maybe more useful to delay Spore Burst. (From experience it seems quiet inaccurate).
With Spirit Tree, it might be worth putting a range enhancement in it. I tend to be at the back holding and blasting most of the time usually, and it's a right pain in the rear when I want to plant a tree to aid the team's regeneration, I have to go right into the middle of the mob to plant it because I can't plant from so far away.
Not that going into melee is a bad thing, but when the brutes are going down faster than I can say "Domination", I do not want to go down with them!
As for Mr Fly Trap - I rarely use it. It negates the knockdown effect of the creepers, and also with my combo (Seeds + Fiery Embrace + Fire Breath + Combustion) = most of the mobs dead, so there's no point in bringing him out. I'd also rather use more of my assault powers to contribute to building domination. -
[ QUOTE ]
Psychic Shockwave isn't classed as a melee power - it's ranged, this means it has a 0.65 multiplier and not 0.75.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hmmm you are right. However, I don't understand why, because it's similar to a blaster/corruptor's nova, in that you need to be near the mobs for it to do damage. Fair enough, not "Melee Range" (literally), but I don't see why novas are classed as melee, and this isn't. Shed any light on this Filth?
[ QUOTE ]
The Flytrap is only 'ok' as far as I'm concerned, it's damage isn't outstanding and it has no really useful control powers - immobilise which most of the time serves to cancel out knockdown from Creepers. Compare it to a Singularity for control or Fire Imps for damage and I think it comes up short.
None of which is to say I don't like Plant - it just gets its strongest control very early.
[/ QUOTE ]
I edited my original post once I gathered what you were saying. Took me a couple of reads! (I'm ill :P) -
[ QUOTE ]
If by "blaps" you mean melee attacks then yes. Most Doms have 3 melee attacks in the assault set, and the rest are ranged - Psi Assault only has 2 melee attacks though.
[/ QUOTE ]
There are 3 powers from Psionic Assault you need to be in melee range for (not necessarily toe to toe): Mind Probe, Telekinetic Thrust and Psychic Shockwave.
[ QUOTE ]
My experience is mostly with Plant which is very good from level 8 (with Seeds of Confusion) with the downside it doesn't get that much more powerful beyond that. It's second major power Creepers is very good though not in the same league as say Terrify from Mind.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? I think Plant control is one of stronger dominator primaries, control wise.
Yeh, Carrion Creepers is probably the only decent power after Seeds of Confusion - and that includes the pet... -

Mass Confuse is your "pet".
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but it = less XP
[/ QUOTE ]
Only if you wait for it to recharge constantly. When using seeds of confusion, my XP/time definately goes up, and it can be a godsend power. I've used it when 2 groups mingled, and we were about to have a time wipe. In about 20 seconds all the foes (apart from bosses, who were SEVERELY weakened) were dead.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was referring to seeds of confusion but you're right - Mass Confusion does still increase XP over time, but at a much much slower rate than seeds. -

As for the OP, try a Plant/Fire. You won't be disappointed! -

Fire/Kin is a really really awesome combo

Any guides to show this?

You don't need a guide to show you that Fire/Kin rocks.
Thing about it for a second. It just simply sounds amazing -

Just a random musing from using it with my Fire/Rad but I find Choking Cloud great and on paper it should blend nicely with Spectral Terror as it won't aggro them. You can Spec Terror them, run in and choke. You do need to 6 slot Cloud though and its another toggle added to your list butr I run Hotfeet, Choking Cloud, RI & EF happily most of the time, dropping Hotfeet if the End is running out.
I'd consider Choking Cloud instead of Flash maybe.
Conserve Power I'm not so sure on. It's got a 10 minute recharge which always seems too much for me.
Deceive is a great little power. I've found it great on Carni at level 42 (respeced it in) and Confuse is wonderful on my low level Dominator, especially when soloing. Could be useful in the lower levels for you. Dunno where you could cram it in though to be honest.
[/ QUOTE ]
Choking Cloud is rubbish I've found - yes it's that bad, and the targets are normally dead before it kicks in. Flash is better I'd say. To me, there is also no point in running Spectral Terror with Choking Cloud, simply because it is a waste of endurance, since you will be more reliant on using other methods of control eg Flash (if anything) and Phantom Army, which double up as extra damage. Might be useful for PvP but I can't see how...might be better for controllers with an immobilizing power.
Talking about Conserve power....You know 3 REC SOs in it bring it down to 5 mins, and along with hasten with 3 REC SOs and AM (6 slotted, but with 3 REC SOs), bring it down to about 3 mins 52 seconds? Another great thing about it, other than the endurance discount, is that all you need to do is press it for it to work - no mob dependent drain. -

So after testing i went for the Ice and hibernate to start.
Thanks for the help

I've read that Ice Storm doesn't do double damage on Contained mobs... -
Can't comment on your /thorns, but can comment on your plant.
Firstly, you have chosen the perfect dominator primary IMO - you have great soft control, and a lot of it!
I started off with getting most of the control powers, to make up for lack of slotting (I'm all for extra control, but I think with planties, you can get by with minimum in later stages- plus my secondary has a lot of decent powers)
As I progressed and levelled, I started to respec the "extra" control (the single immoblize, the mass immobilize, the sleep)
Strangler I've slotted with the standard 2 ACC 2 REC 2 HOLD
Seeds of Confusion - ahh the lovely seeds - I hope you picked up this power since it is one of the defining powers of the set. OK, you gotta set your self up into position, and a few ACC enhancements wouldn't go amiss, but it can be used most of the time to take initial aggro strikes at low levels. I have slotted this with 3 REC, 2 ACC and 1 CONFUSE DURATION (OK, Ok I don't know the abbreviation for that :P - CONF DUR?) I want this to be up every single fight. 3 Recharges brings this down to about 31 secs and the initial duration is 45 secs. The power it self seems pretty accurate against even con/yellows, so I would suggest slotting it initially with a ACC, then REC, then work your way up to fully slotting it.
Another defining power, the most talked about, Carrion Creepers - Take this and you will love it. It will be your best friend. Targetted - Speed - Fly - Jump, Knockdown/back, Slow, Immobilize - can you think of anything better? Who needs Ice Slick?!
Slotted this for 3 recharges so far (I'm not high enough yet). Did I also mention when you have initially used this power, and the group you were fighting is dead, an invisible entity follows you to the next group. Vines shoot out of the ground shortly after you begin fighting, the whole process starts again. To me, it feels like it's perma simply because of the way it works. By the 3rd group of mobs, it is recharged again. (or maybe I fight slowly)
You need this power, nuff said.
I'm only lvl 28 so I haven't got my pet yet - but I will probably be slotting it with 2 ACC and 3 DMG as I do with all my pets.
Hope that helps. -

I have been struggling to settle with my Fire/FF troller. Even though he is my oldest character I have never been particularly happy with him. He is lvl 30 and has recently gained a respec...
any hints or suggestions on what I should get?
[/ QUOTE ]
For extra bit of control, Fire Cages + Repulsion Bomb.
I just transferred my hero Chill Pill (Ice/FF) to the test server and respecc'd just to see what the power would do. Works wonders!
Although I'm not sure that when they changed the way the power worked, if they also change the recharge. Will have to check up on that.
All that happens, is that a bubble "bomb" is thrown at a targetted mob, when it lands it knocksBACK surrounding mobs and disorients them. However with something such as Fire Cages (or Frostbite/Stone Cages) used before hand, it could act as a mini hold too (yes I know Fire controllers get Flash Fire, but you can never have too much control can ya now?)
-
1 REC and 1 ACC should be enough - it has a high base ACC and fairly decent REC as it is.
It is good for knocking mobs away from squishies and useful in PvP.
I mainly use it on my Ice controller to push mobs who have escaped, onto my Ice Slick. -
Go for whatever suits you best or appears fun for you. Make a few trial controllers with an assortment of secondaries, level them up a bit, and see how you get on. Just because the set works together well, does not necessarily mean it works for you (Some may require more practice as a controller, or might just plain bore you)
As said earlier, illusion/fire control is usually decent for soloing. Avoid Empathy & Force Field secondaries however for a more solo friendly build - but I think Rad is great for soloing personally. -

Come on someone i know regen aura is like 500%boost how much is the adrinaline one?

3 slotted with SO's gives an 87.72% increase, according to SherkSilver -
Wormhole is only great in the early days, IMO.
I tend to fight in big teams and the foes are usually "arrested" very quickly - hence no need for it. It does however have it's uses and looks very cool.
Most will swear by it...
I, however, don't :P - hence my limitted slotting of 1 REC, 1 ACC -

Theres some good advice re Grav side of things in here if you havnt' looked already Grav talk
As for the /Psi part the only power I would urge you _not_ to take is the very feeble 'Mind Blast'. Untill the animation time or damage for this power is changed its just a baaaad power for a dominator/defender to take/use.
The other power which you _may_ want to avoid (depending on what you want todo with this villain) is TK Thrust. Even tho it recently got a boost from the Dom +dmg on melee powers, its still minor and to be of any use would require about three slots on it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Move over Rad, it's my turn
To answer your questions:
Grav/Psi is only gimped if you think it is gimped yourself - otherwise don't take others' words. What appeals to them, might not appeal to you.
So, if you can accept that you won't be doing that much damage compared to some of the others' sets, that you will get a bit frustrated in later levels, and that you're happy to be fighting close to the mobs later on in life, keep at it. Also remember, psionics has a -recharge to the majority of it's powers, or at least some kind of debuff. The changes in I7 allows Domination to be available more often, increases damage for melee attacks in our secondary sets, and allows Drain Psyche (a power which allows us to boost our endurance and health regeneration by reducing the mobs'. More mobs = more faster regen) to be slotted for accuracy.
Powers to skip: Propel (for the animation time), Subdue or Crush (1 or the other - why do you need 2 immobilizing powers? - Crush might be better for PvP purposes), Psionic Lance (why are you sniping? Controlling mobs is your forte!)
Powers you don't absolutely need: Wormhole (could work with Crushing Field though as a disorient --> immobilize), Mental Blast (Never had the need for it)
Keep Lift as it works more or less like a hold, ie it takes a mob out of action for a few seconds. Of course take Psychic Shockwave - after that things will look much much brighter.
Obviously, this is just the way that I've played my Grav/Psi, and I'm sure you have you're own way too, but, if you need any help, or more advice on anything, feel free to contact me -
I think doms with psionic secondary, especially at low levels, will be using it more often after I7 has gone live. I've not yet tested it on the Test Server, but will soon.
