Gravity Control - Force Field?
Force-Field isn't really very good for soloing with, as a number of the powers can only be used on team-mates.
The later powers with the large area-effect obviosuly effect you, but it's a long long wait until those high levels.
For the love of God, please no!
My ice controller has FF as a secondary, and it's just a] not good at all for soloing, and b] plain boring - especially if you're like me who prefers debuffing etc, as opposed to "fire-and-forget" types.
I must say though, Sonic Resonance looks quite tasty, since you have the debuffs and shields.
@Under Control
As said before FF isnt exactly the best for soloing and can be boring even in teams (this is my personal opinion and yours may differ )
Grav is a competent solo set but I would still recommend either fire, illusion or mind as soloing primaries.
Either radiation or kinetics and to a lesser extent storm and trick arrow for soloing secondaries.

I'd recommend not taking FF with any set other than energy blast.

Don't! Really. I mean it!
I would agree with others, for soloing, stick to /rad /kin and maybe /storm (haven't played /TA much). Gravity is a nice set which tries to balance control and damage. So for example it has less hard control than say Earth or Ice, and less damage than Fire or Illusion (which might make for easier soloing).

What's wrong with Sonic Resonance? Got me a lvl 47 Ice/Sonic and she fairly rocks.
If you meant */Sonic is poor for solo'ing, well, yes, you're probably right. It is definitely of much better use in teams.
Just started a Grav / TA and it solos pretty well, better at the low levels than my Illusion / Storm did.
TA makes up for Gravs lack of control. You can hold 2 and immob 2 minions pretty happily and pick them off with Propel then. Or stack the TA & Grav powers (hold, immob one, immob, hold the second) for lots of Containment goodness.
Lack of a heal is prob the worst thing about it. Especially considering the lack of a good heavy accuracy debuff or shields to protect yourself.

Hellowie!
Well, Trick Arrow was my second option, if people didn't recommend Force Field. Or just go back to Gravity Control - Storm Summoning. But I fancieda little change
Thanks for the advice, everyone,

I know, I've seen your troller MBar, and you just said it yourself, she "fairly" rocks . It's certainly a team-based set and hopeless for soloing but after playing both /rad and /kin to 50 on controllers, I can say it's just not on the same level as those 2 (but hey! I like a good challenge ). First of all you have to be into bubbling, and although the +res shields are nice, the numbers are too low for controllers to make that much of a difference in most cases. Sonic Siphon and Disruption Field are OK, but of course can't be enhanced. Clarity is a great power but comes almost 20 levels later than an /empathy's CM. And Liquefy? I respecced out after 2 levels given how unreliable the hold/kdown was, and the -def -acc hardly noticeable. For defenders I think it's quite a good set and for PvP it has some handy tricks like Sonic Cage, but you just won't be "turning the tide" of a battle with it as a controller. There's a reason why you see so few sonics at high level, right? YMMV of course

Grav/FF is a powerful and very fun teaming build. I do solo with my level 38 and she can take out hazard zone spawns solo, but it's very slow and would frustrate anyone expecting to XP quickly. If it weren't for the combo of PFF and Aid Self, it would be very tricky, too.
A much better soloing build would be Grav/Rad. More damage, great debuffs and a nice endurance boost.
I think you need a very aggressive/damaging pet to be soloable at a reasonable rate once you hit the 30s. Only Illusion or Fire fill that for me. Controllers are primarily about teams otherwise.

Seeing this is the controller boards I don't see why a defender combo should be the "ONLY", as you put it, way to make this a fun set....your fun may not be others idea of fun.
Pretty sure some masterminds would disagree with your statement aswell.
I do agree however the synergy between most troller sets arent that great with FF....mind/ff is a good combo though.

Well if you're bored with Grav Rot I reckon Illusion is TAs spiritual soulmate. PAs mean no Accuracy Debuff becomes irrelevant and you'd have 3 single target "stop them attacking me" moves in Blind, Deceive & Ice Arrow. Plus Illusion has 3 big Fire and forget moves, you can then switch to the arrows for debuff goodness & the PAs, Spectral Terror & Phantasm will work away.
Make sure you make a Magic or Tech TA though unless you're Fire primary.
Having seen one in action a few times recently, I would think Mind/TA (if you don't mind not having a pet) could also be a nice combo for soloing, with strong early single-target attacks and plenty of control / damage mitigation tools.

I want to make an Illusion Control - Something, but not for The Rot Hood. It just wouldn't fit the concept. It does look like a fun set though.
I'll pronbably go Gravity Control - Trick Arrow, or just go back to MaX's awesome Trick Arrow - Psychic Blast build
My only other problem is, I really, really, want Phase Shift if I make The Rot Hood Gravity Control - Trick Arrow. Is it possible to fit in.
Thanks,
The Rot Hood.

What I didn't fancy about Rad and Kin is the fact that they're very "active" sets, meaning you'll be spending time in battle doing things other than controlling.
[ QUOTE ]

30-35% Resistance to everything but Psi is too low?

But that's an advantage! Full effect straight out of the box.

Yup, Clarity does have limited use given that Dispersion gives everyone around you most-Mezzes protection anyway.
And while we're on the subject of Dispersion: It is god-like.

Disagree, it's another AoE Control, which while no one effect within it is high, the combined sum is useful.
[ QUOTE ]

Yes, if things go wrong, Sonic has little to cope, but that's because that's not it's nature. The shields and debuffs ensure that the team is harder to kill and are killing things quicker, meaning there's much less chance of things going wrong in the first place.

Because people are continually chasing the supposed ubers that are Rad and Kin?
You seem unnessecarily down about Sonic, Okton. Yes, it isn't as super-happy as some of the secondaries but it is most certainly not weak.

Hehe... well maybe I am a bit on the negative side, but I still think it needs some love. Let's face it, how many tells have you had asking "Are you sonic?"

[/ QUOTE ]
The figures for the individual shields are actually 25% when fully slotted. They would only get the additional +res (and it's something like 15% iirc) if they are within your Sonic Dispersion. I agree it's a very nice power, but the radius is rather small, so the squishies have to stay quite close to you for it to work. And there's a lot of psi damage flying around in the 40s (I know, it's the same problem for most shields).
[ QUOTE ]
But that's an advantage! Full effect straight out of the box.
[/ QUOTE ]
But come on, 12% -res from Disruption Field given the end cost? That's really a bit low for my taste. Think about Fulcrum! I know it can stack with Sonic Siphon, but you would probably need to have 2 or more sonics on the team to notice some real difference (wanna team sometime? ).

Meh... still think something like Empathy (which I don't particularly like for trollers) increases team survivability more (let alone rad or kin).
[ QUOTE ]

That too. But I'm afraid at the moment they do tend to look shinier, even more so in the late game (*grumbles off to get those last 14 bars and move on to his ice/storm*).

What else do you face in that area?
Crey and Nem? And even Crey are thin on the ground
A lot of the 40+ content are the people you mentioned so if you're facing even 50% the mobs you mentioned, i think Okton's statement stands.
Malta and those knife wielding psycho ladies they hang with.
Those weird yolks hanging around the Half Life Zones, erm I mean Shadow Shards.
Still, there is more Psi flying around in the 40s than any other time in the game.

Thinking of making a Gravity Control - Force Field Controller. But, I am a heavy soloer, and wasn't sure if this was a wise choice. Is it?
And, since I can't seem to use the Hero builder for love nor money (my secret shame), who fancies making a build for me!
Many thanks,
The Rot Hood.
