  1. After my theme team suggestion got tabled due to a lack of masochists on the server, a friend has told me in game that she is tired of doing incarnate trials, and doesn't want to do dfb and wants to do some regular missions.

I said in response, "What's stopping you?"
She said, "Everyone is either doing dfb or iTrials."

Obviously, this was an exaggeration born out of frustration. I know for a fact that there are teams forming for specific arcs and even radio missions, because I see them advertised on the global channels from time to time. However, my friend doesn't play nearly as often as I do, and primarily plays on nights and weekends. And those generally are when iTrials are more likely to be run.

So, as much as it pains me to be inefficient in leveling speed (i.e.- no dfb) on Saturdays at random times throughout the day, when it suits us to team, we're going to go to kings row and do some of those story arcs and eventually work our way to the hollows or skyway or steel, whereever the mood strikes us to go.

If you are one of those whose global friends are off playing another game, or just don't play very much anymore and need/want something off the regular routine of DFB->Posi> Synapse>Faultline>Herotips>iTrials (with various TFs and MSRs thrown in between, look for me on Saturdays.

If you've teamed with me before and found that you didn't like my jokes, don't look for me, because I found them and may even make some macros for some rapid fire comedy.

Again, no special time, just randomly throughout the day, as long as it doesn't interfere with any server events.
  2. That's a fair question, given the number of iTrials I run. Until recently, I'd have said no. For me, I've already run the low level stuff so many times, it's just boring. The incarnate trials offer some problem solving opportunities that don't exist elsewhere in the game. However, even that can get old. (and sometimes frustrating.)

So, I would ask you two questions in return:

    1. What server do you play on?
    2. What time of day/night do you play, and for how long?

    Oh, a suggestion:

Pending your answer to number 1, consider joining that servers public global channels. You may see some casual chatter, you may not. But, those channels are good for finding teams of any level.
  3. If I may, I will make a few suggestions.

I have one 50 here on Infinity, a twin to my main on Liberty.
There, I've led countless UGTs, MoUGT and regular runs. All of them after our MSRs which are at 9:30pm Eastern. It's a great time slot, you should have no problems filling your league. Just make sure team leads don't do any inviting, lest you find yourself overbooked.

If you're going to do it after the MSR, I recommend you form up in Pocket D. (Or First Ward or Midnighter's club) Otherwise, people that weren't at the MSR will have a hard time getting in the right instance of RWZ.

It's a really fun trial - but be prepared for a lot of people not really understanding what to do - and sometimes more importantly, what not to do. Because of it's length, a lot of people don't do this trial, so are inexperienced when they finally do run it.

    Good luck!

This allows many/most melee builds 'headroom' to slot in two sets of purples without losing defense. This means for the cost of reslotting three powers, I can get 1-ish percent more S/L and 20 percent global recharge. (!!!!!!!)

On that tradeoff, suddenly, PURPLES ARE WORTH IT FOR MELEE.

And there are a lot, I mean a LOT, of melee toons out there.

I'm glad there's going to be a lot more supply, because I suspect it's going to get mopped up fast.

But, ehn, I could be wrong.
I think you're not wrong, but not as right as you think. Some will do that, sure. But there are a lot who respec or use a 2nd or 3rd build for incarnate content. Some of my toons are at 45% - but not at 60%. I'm still not going to slot purples for that reason.

    Weekly TF

I have learned that you are correct. I had that box checked and nothing in my junk mail folder or in box.

<sigh> I guess that's just the way things go for VIPs.

    Weekly TF

ParagonWiki says this week's weekly is the 34-43 respec.

Now, I'm sure they aren't just making it up, but I'm curious as to how they get to find out before they've posted it in the weekly tf thread.

I, too, would like to know well ahead of time what the weekly task force will be.

Not anymore. They changed it some time ago. Now, the 5 charge temp power takes just as long as the one from the booster pack. True, the animation starts instantly, but it takes about 25 seconds? before you actually get ported. (It seems much, much longer )

I recall clearly making the suggestion in the "suggestions/for fun" section of the forums that they allow us to buy the instant mission tp.

I was told that there were problems with people's charge being used up when it didn't work. Just seems to me, though, the longer the animation, the more opportunity there is to interrupt it. What really irks is that the instant tp should have been part of the booster pack. It was almost enough to make me rage quit.
  9. If they sped up the activation of mission tp like the 5 charge temp power was, it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

In some instances, it's almost faster to just SS to a train.

    <sigh>

At least we don't have to ride a giant turtle like they do in some other games.
  10. This is just to let you know that I saw some beautiful players on our server this afternoon right before the Superbowl -- and well, a little bit of the first part of it.

We were on a MoM, led by @letroy. There were maybe 6 or 7 +3s, but the rest were unshifted and +1.

Ordinarily, I would just absolutely cringe at the idea of doing a MoM with unshifted folks - but we had done a baf - and I was on my emp - and it was so easily done, I got to use my secondary a good bit, something that ordinarily doesn't happen that often on an iTrial.

So, we decided to do a MoM. The first phase was just as ugly as you could hope for. At one point, there were only 5 people still alive.

I was on my emp called Confidence, and Confidence in the league on my side of the screen was definitely wavering. But, somehow, we got past Lanaruu, who is just about the worst GM a league can get. after that, it got progressive smoother.

This league was just amazing in their resilience. No complaining, everyone seemed to be doing their level headed best to avoid the pink.

One member was spamming warnings about the pink at 5 seconds away - which was much appreciated.
All were doing what they could.

For a pug group of largely unshifted and undershifted toons, it really was a beautiful thing.

The same thing happened Friday on the UGT led by @nights blood.

A league that I would have never thought would succeed - struggled, but persisted anyway.

Hang in there folks, there are still some solid players about! So glad I came across some new names that played well.

    This is the best advice.

It will really all depend on what's in your inspiration tray. If you're solo, feel free to eat a break free, a couple of purples and reds -- and save a couple of blues and greens - and have a spare break free - then let it rip.

It's fun the first few times, but the end drain is annoying, and it gets old fast.

Consider a fire/kin corruptor. Siphon Speed, Nova, then trasference. Siphon speed, rinse repeat. (depending on your global recharge, of course. )

    Ultimate Solo

The longer I play this game, the more the answer to your question changes for me.

I used to think for soloing, nothing could beat an ice blaster.

Then I made a fire blaster. For crazy, intense fun, nothing beats a fire blaster.

For slow, strategic, sleepy, puzzling, frustrating solo play - try an emp/*defender without IOs. That was my first 50, when I didn't realize that a secondary zapp wouldn't do the same damage as a blasters primary zapp.

For survivability and leveling speed - I'd go with a scrapper or brute that has multiple AoE attacks. Pre 20s, they are agonizingly slower than a blaster - but once they hit about 25 or so, they begin to outpace the blaster.

A brute has higher HP, higher damage cap, higher resist cap than a scrapper, but I dunno - I think a scrapper is more fun, especially with a random crit - but it all depends on you, the player and what powersets you choose.
  13. Well, now that you mention it, it sounds a lot like being f2p while being a vet.

Well, wonder if I start a different thread for a different theme?

    Fire/rad was done last year.

All kin team was done ...sort of, but fizzled out in the 30's.

I was gonna do a regen brute team, but after all the clicking on my scrapper I decided against it.
@Torment and Agony is doing MM Mondays...
    @karmaa is doing Scrapper Saturdays....
@Tax E is doing the Tanker Tuesdays...

As much as I'd love to do an all blaster team, it would taper off in the early teens with no heals or status protection.

However, given that corruptors have a nice damage cap of 210% at level 1, which rises up to 500% at level 50, I think a fire/kin team would be a lot of fun.

And, heck, we'll let the controllers come along as well.

    Questions? Comments? Derogatory remarks?
  14. Please disregard, got the answer I was looking for.
  15. Not exactly - he'll just be a toon that won't sneak stealth procs from my SG bin - he'll run SSAs or hero tips and get the recipe that way - and use salvage on hand, or through AE to craft it. More than likely will just have a combo of SO, DO and TOs. Instead of buying SOs, will use whatever drops. It'll hurt not having end mods until they drop, that's for sure.
  16. Generally speaking, I do farm for salvage.

However, with the recent nerf, it's not as quick as it used to be. It is almost just as fast to run a regular ouro mission. And, because I can get random common salvage AND recipes, that's been where I go as of late.

Ukaserex, you made a fine point about how thier business model is we should be play testing. And most of us (I do) probably feel a little guilty about not heading to Beta. Hyperstrike made an excellent rebuttal that they may not listen.

Look, this is not my first trip around the merry-go-round. I have worked in big corporations (more than one). I have worked in design oriented team corporations. I have worked with groups trying to do massive art projects. The bigger the project, and the more work that is done on it before it gets to the feedback stage (Beta) the less likely that the design group is gonna give a frog's fart how bad the feedback is. They are gonna put a happy face on it, quote someone "well, everybody likes something different" check it off their project list, and (maybe) make a mental note to do something different next time.

Do I really want to hop on Beta? lets see. I get to be one of the first to do the trials. Thats means that I will have like 12 failure runs right off the bat, because there are never any clues in this game about how to do the trials or the failure parameters. Once I learn the trial I can play it through on numerous characters and develop a sense of it. Then I can post to the feedback forum along with a few really good gamers (Arcana and that crew, sheesh) and about a zillion opinionated and not necessarily as talented gamers. Then the Devs (may/may not) even look at the feedback I posted. Oh, and for all this work what do I get? *crickets. Or duriing the time everyone is flocking to Beta I could be getting badges, running 50 content for A merits, chances for purple drops, and doing trials to get more rewards in the hope that some year they will open another incarnate ability (and that it will not require yet another form of in game currency. Yes, in fact I am still irritated about the 3 months worth of useless shards I built up....)

    Okay, off soapbox again.
Well, personally, all those activities you mention are exactly why I don't really want to log onto the Beta server. I could get a zillion purple recipe drops, and they'd be worthless. It all seems counter-productive to me. We cannot serve two masters, figuratively speaking.

I do maintain, however, that the players in trials have a responsibility to

    1. Be willing to switch to another character
    2. "know thy foe" - as was mentioned earlier - the player should read the guides to at least have a rough idea of what to expect.
    3. Bring appropriate shifted toons to the appropriate trials.
  19. In my pursuit of midlevel tech and arcane salvage, I sought out a story arc in ouroboros that featured council, as they tend to drop both types of salvage.

My understanding is that there are three level ranges of salvage:

    1-25
    26-39
    40-50

Yet, while exemped to 39, fighting level 39 mobs, I'm getting the higher tier salvage sometimes, and the mid tier salvage at other times.

Is this range just a guess, and it's actually something different, or does it just very at the whims of the rng?
  20. Just to let folks know,

The first three sets of 5 recipes were well above the break even average I had in my head.

The fourth set was a little weak and the 5th set was fair.

In retrospect, I probably overpaid - but not really. Now, instead of standing in rwz recruiting for an iTrial, waiting for people to log in, I can actually have something productive to do - like farm for the salvage bits that I didn't have stashed in my base.

I won't know for some time if I actually profit or not, because by nature, the 33's make more, but they sell slower.

For a fire brute to seek out a demon farm is ridiculous. We hear over the chat channels that the demon farm is "Teh awsomeness" - But, it's not. Not for a fire brute.

Infernal Demons come with a 20% resistance to fire damage. Easy to overcome, sure - but why bother when you can eat freaks or council that have 0% resistance?

I guess I'll just do that as a personal project.

And that is what I categorically dislike about them.
I think it has to do with player laziness --- or a players lack of available time. And this insane business model that requires the customer to test the product before it goes live.

TPN was on beta before it went live. So was MoM, and every other incarnate trial. If you are VIP, then you have access to the Beta server and could tell the devs before it went live that it was lousy. Believe me - I am not standing on some pedestal. I'm kicking myself for not using the Beta server when I had the chance. There are several problems with TPN, and to a lesser degree, MoM and UGT. (They are my own issues with the trial, not including the kick bug of tpn)

TPN has been out for some time now. It is incumbent upon every player to not only experience the content before it goes live, but to read the guides on the trial before you go. Why? Because the trials are not straightforward. They have mechanics that we haven't seen in game before. There is no way to know to pull voids to Penelope Yin unless someone tells you. (If there is, it's so vague or nebulous, I've never seen it)
I mean this half sincerely, and half sarcastically, mind you. If you've done any kind of a search on TPN, you'd have read how some folks get kicked out for some unknown reason. You already know it's a snooze fest from the player commentary. I applaud the OP and everyone else for giving it a try or three.
Myself, I don't enjoy it much. I'll do the trial with some friends if they want, but left alone, I'd rather do MoM or UGT. Those trials may require a good bit of instruction until the players get the gist of it, but once they do, they are simple and fun.
So, put my vote on TPN needs some revision.
