Quote:It's a permanent increase to prestige. It won't show up as prestige earned by that character, but it's a one time boost to prestige for the first SG that the character joins. If that character leaves the sg, the prestige remains with the sg.I was aware of that, but with Freedom, one really doesn't need to start a character Goldside.
However, is that a permanent increase to prestige? Or is it lost when/if the character leaves the SG?
I have leveled several toons to level 20 from outbreak, and they earn about 25-50k prestige in those 20 levels. (depends on teaming, soloing, defeats, etc.)
As for how much a level 50 would earn in a weekend - that's gonna vary a good bit. Your guess is as good as mine how much that would be. -
In the interest of trying to help folks have a feeling of community here on Liberty, I did make a character today, and passed up the tutorial. I'll keep him there and form teams, or join them as needed.
I also have a lot of characters that are dormant a good bit, but as my 50's get all decked out incarnate wise, I'll work on the lowbies some more.
I just learned that the dom with ice/ice powersets has an ice circle AoE. I'm anxious to see how that works with my playstyle.
Oh, I'm sure you know, Mystic, but there's a 100k prestige bonus when the goldside toons join your group. (inf earning will still be weak, but I'm pretty sure you really don't have any inf concerns) -
I'll be there, whenever you run it.

Quote:I'm still thinking about this. On the last double xp weekend, I ran a toon each day through praetoria. If there's a set group that starts at a set time and keeps going, I'm ok with that. But most folks are only going to be able to play an hour or two at a time. Still thinking..I do still think we should get something of a Praetorian superteam together. Those of us that don't have a Praetorian toon, or that want another and can't stand stuffing through the good, albeit slow content.
With the new powersets out, Praetoria would give us a good chance of learning them, instead of DfB > DiB runs I'm sure are going to be all over the place. Maybe start Friday when people get off work, or something so that it dont end up interfering with Scrapper Saturday.
What do you guys think? -
You know, I really think everyone should watch that clip in its entirety.
It changed my life, almost as much as Sweeney Todd. -
Quote:Apparently, you have not read another of my posts. It stated that, on the internet, the way to start an argument is to express an opinion, and then wait. I merely took the contrary position, as you no doubt hoped someone would. You have contradicted yourself in 2 sentances. Not only is this not Micro-soft or walmart. Its more like A lemonaide stand than anything you have offered. Its a video-game mostly played by children and by people like me the child inside.
And how could you possibly after all this time continue to talk about a video-game in the real world terms of life and gain and loss.
Its time to stop the roleplay this is not a real market and the devs have decided to KILL yes KILL maybe MURDER or OBLITERATE is better but they have thrown the gauntlet down.
The marketing days are different. Not gone just chanfged profits lowerd. Deal with it. But dont compare this to Microsoft. I knew Microsoft and apple and sam walton. You sir are no Same Walton. So please dont even try to compare this to real life. Cause the people that are trying to sell an io for 2 billion off market are cheating the people buying. They are knowingly and without care defrauding the people buying as to the value of the object they are buying.
If you choose to debate morality, do so.
Your position is that it's wrong/mean to sell an IO to someone when days later it will be far more affordable.
I think many IOs will be more affordable in a few days.
Obviously, you think they will be more affordable in a few days.
And you assume that whomever is purchasing these does not know.
This is a fact that is not in evidence. Certainly, it is a reasonable assumption, though. Ignorance is bliss, is it not?
However, let us consider your philisophical argument at its merits.
Is it a fair assumption that people who buy things off market do not know about the likely changes come Tuesday?
I would suggest that off-market purchases are made by people who are more likely to know what they are getting into and making informed choices. There are only a couple ways I know to sell an IO/recipe off market.
1.) come to the forums and advertise.
This is the only way I've ever seen a glad proc sold. I've heard/read of trades being offered, but never accepted. I've also seen trades of one purple recipe for another.
But, of the several glad procs I've sold, they've all been through the forums - where people are far more likely to know what's ahead in issue 22.
I would submit the possibility that the people buying these before issue 22 hits are speculating, and hoping to strike it rich. The market is an odd mistress. Hard to know how she'll act. So, please, try not to suggest that those who sell are mean, or cheating. The same very well could be true of the buyers. -
Quote:This may surprise you, but I know of at least 1 player who only has level 50s on this server. I suspect they'll be exemping, or possibly powerleveling some folks. <shrug> As for me, I plan to go to pocket d after the msr, just in case folks want to run ugt. I don't want to lead it, but will if need be.Well, I'll be making sure the lower level content gets some love, even if it means forming a pug up on a moments notice.
The Drowning in Blood Trial may not have lost it's charm by the 2xp weekend, especially since it seems more intriuging than DFB in terms of story, as well as game-play, so I might run lots of those. Positrons, Synapses, whatever, I'll run them so we can get the new lowbies we're sure to have come Tuesday out of the lower levels asap.
~Raven
PS - I also promise to bite my tongue as much as possible everytime someone forms an itrial or 45+ only team. Not *literally*, since if last 2xp weekend was any guide I'd lack a tongue by Saturday night. Never ceases to amaze me when people ignore double xp to run incarnate content, which isn't affected by it...
I enjoy the UGT far more than any of the sub 50 content. Getting xp is too easy to really fret over 2xp weekend - but I do know that a lot of players have a tough time with it, thus my reason for offering a second msr. -
Is it mean to purchase shares of Microsoft and Wal-Mart before they became successful?
Is it mean to sell those shares before the economic downturn?
I don't think so.
Do we as a community have a responsibility to inform our fellow players of the likely impact of issue 22? I do think we are morally obligated to answer questions if asked, but if they don't ask, I see no reason to infer that they are ignorant.
Some folks have more money than sense, some just want what they want when they want it. (NAO!) -
Sadly, Hess and Katie have to be unlocked via non-tf story arcs. So, that would eliminate those options, given the criteria by the OP.

Quote:It is possible that I could be wrong - but by my way of thinking, assuming you're on a team that is consistent, (and capable) you're better off speeding. Mission completion bonuses are a sizeable chunk of xp. I would rather do 2 speed itfs than 1 long, kill most itf.I will agree with your remark about speed running, that's fine if no one needs xp but if you are leveling a character you do need to run basically a kill all to maximize your xp earning.I will be looking for this type of team when DXP hits
Funny thing is, I've never done an ITF with a sub 50 char, so I might be horribly wrong.
For the OP, I would guess there'd be nothing to stop the group from doing another DFB once they finished Synapse to get them that push to be high enough for Sister. After Sister, they'd be wise to run a Moonfire. (and they'd probably have to to get high enough for Citadel.
After Citadel, you'll be about 27, maybe 28. Defeats and debt for different members of the group will impact things a bit, as well xp boosters and such.
But! Double XP weekend is coming up! Do it in one weekend, hero! -
I've looked here and there for the events on Liberty for 2xp weekend.
Presently, we have a Hamidon Raid on March 17th, Saturday at 7:30 pm Eastern time.
We also have Scrapper Saturday at 9PM and and MSR scheduled for 930 pm that evening as well.
If you folks promise to bring your characters level 35 and up, I'll host an Extra MSR for everyone (until the league is full) at 6:00 pm Eastern.
That will give us time to get to the hive for the hami raid.
Also, I hope to run a ugt after the hami raid in RWZ. -
I have a character on my server with no sg whose sole use is to help others invite their alts into their sg.
I also have a second account that helps me bring my own alts into mine.
Here's the thing - the odds of someone taking advantage of you are pretty slim. Most people would sooner give you inf than take it from you.
I'm sure everyone has at least one friend in the game to ask, and if not, ask me, I'm on quite a bit, and have no problem skipping the tutorial with some silly named toon just to invite yours to your group. -
I would say that any player that is willing to write all that out is probably not going to fit in the suck category.
Just be assured that 1) a defender is going to have a tough time soloing in Paragon, and I suspect the rogue isles as well.
Praetoria, or gold side IS challenging. I am quite sure that if you started with a brute or a scrapper, or even a blaster, you'd have a far easier time with things. A defender certainly can solo, but a defender is certainly not the first choice for running solo.
Look for things to change quite a bit on 2xp weekend. -
Quote:Are you nuts? That dude has some great lines! All he needs is a sharper outfit and a better job. A good wing-man wouldn't hurt either.Desperate Guy, because he doesn't understand that "no means no" and won't stop harassing Turndown Girl.
Ought to kill her for not giving a guy a chance to be amazing. -
Brightfires! You just made my day with that post! I had no idea I could make those panes smaller!
Now, I might be able to see things a little more clearly.

I haven't looked at your builds yet - but seems to me that for your fire/fire, the first part of your attack chain should be Fiery Embrace, scorch, (for the bruise) then burn, GFS, Incinerate, Build up, scorch, burn, etc.
In order to fairly test the two, you need to use the tools at your disposal.
There's nothing wrong with the attacks you mention, but why not use Fiery Embrace and Build Up and Burn?
To be fair, there are some folks that are so....attuned to their character that they have studied and read about their powersets that they know without question which attack chain gives the best dps for that toon.
I am wound kind of tight, but not that tight, lol. Not yet, anyway. Attack chains are limited by recharge rate- and to a degree, endurance available.
Moreover, on a fire tank, odds are healing flames has got to enter into it at some point. As will consume in any prolonged battle.
As for overcoming the pylons regen, what's in the interface compared with what your SD/SS has?
Too busy to take a peek at your builds atm, was actually searching for something else.
Oh, with the new ATOs, the tanker proc is awesome for fire tanks, especially if you have it in scorch, a fast recharging power with low end cost. -

Interesting set up steele!
Just a little extra to add.
Once you finally get the set up the way you want it,
type out:
/wdwsave
Then, each time you bring on a new toon, type
/wdwload
Will save lots of click and drag time. -

Quote:The buying of lucks. This by itself is revealing. I would love to see what is in the insp trays of people I trial and team with. I would swear that some folks don't even know they have an insp tray. When I'm on my blaster and try to give large greens or purples to a struggling brute, I keep getting the message that they don't have room in their tray.It helped that the average player skill on the team was very high; also, one of the players did have stealth and TP, and would actually TP teammates to objectives. I also made frequent trips to contacts between missions to buy Lucks. I actually would say there was a good amount of teamwork on this team; I definitely felt that my controls, buffs and debuffs were necessary support for the damage dealers on the team. And I still got to level 15 by the end.
And then, they die. Makes no sense to me. (doesn't happen all the time, of course, but enough where I have to wonder)
If you look at my signature below, I think I have just realized that this is probably pointless. I firmly believe that the people that have no idea what they are doing genuinely have no idea that they don't know what they're doing. -
My best advice is to make a spreadsheet, or some list in notepad with each characters name and the date that you ran the last SSA with that character. Obviously, since you can't recall - just wait 8 days from now, and run one SSA on each character. I say 8 days, because as I understand it, if you ran one SSA at noon on monday and then ran another the following monday, unless you are sure of the time you finished, you might miss the alignment merit. So, I just wait 8 days. I have enough toons where on one day, I'll run a couple, and repeat every day. And when a new one comes out, each toon will run SSA1, and the new one.
All those merits do add up, and they save a boat load of inf when it's time to slot those pricy IOs. -
Today, I did a Sister Psyche TF. It took us an hour and a half - and there was certainly no more than one defeat.
This was a non-speed run. I was on a tank - but there were 2 brutes and two scrappers, a corruptor, controller and a PB.
Truth be told, I wanted to speed this thing. But, I didn't because I knew that there was one new-ish player who may have never done it before, and I figured this might have been an instance where attempts at speeding might take longer than fighting through.
That being said - I still saw the team split several times - so, even though I was the tank, and the leader of the tf, I turned and followed after one of the brutes.
I will say it - I was bored out of my skull. The things I have to put myself through for a silly accolade. But, this was my second level 50 that had been shelved on Triumph for a very long time.
I understand that some toons cannot "speed". And I don't mind slowing down the pace - most of the time. I know that in incarnate trials, I simply won't do lambda anymore because of this ridiculous speed thing where the turrets and streets are skipped.
In going slow - I learned that team skills do not improve by doing things slowly. The team does fare better, yes. People have more time to sip their drinks, answer the phone, tend to children, etc.
Non-speed is casual. It's more for fun, enjoying the cool way pink lightning looks when its circling the npc's feet, and things like that. I am so rarely in a mood to do that. Usually, the only time I want to do that is either very late at night, or very early in the day.
But all of that is an aside. This point behind this post was to share with people what my UI looked like, and to solicit suggestions from others what theirs looks like.
When the hami raid leader says "get back to your mitos" - I don't want to see a league wipe because someone missed that comment because it was in such a place that the player or players didn't see it.
I do think that people should understand the mechanics of defense - or at least be willing to learn about it.
I do think that everyone should spend some time and share with people what they know with people who don't know but would like to.
All I want to do is help people play better - if they want to. Not by telling them that it's unwise for a tank to choose 4 travel powers - even though I think it's a silly idea - but by answering questions if I know the answer, giving them the url to paragon wiki, badge-hunters and the coh forums.
I can't do anything about the screaming children, or the wife who's tired of hubby sitting behind a screen in love with his female avatar. But, I do think we can all help our fellow players improve - if they want to.
I spend a good bit of time in these forums - sometimes I'll ask a question, sometimes I'll answer one - (yesterday I showed I was horribly forgetful about the properties of multiplication, much to my dismay) - but I read them all and learn a little bit here and there.
I know not everyone has that kind of time. But, if I can do something to make what little time my fellow players have better, I want to do that - most of the time. I gotta take care of my admin stuff first, tho. -
Some of you know me, some don't.
I have run more iTrials than I care to think about. Most went well, some were so bad, I've repressed the memories.
The other day, I had a real life activity, so I showed up on my server, late to a raid. (In all seriousness, I expected it to be over.)
I've never led a Hami raid, though I have led specific teams to the various duties. It's to the point now where it's pretty much down to a science.
When I logged in, I sent the raid leader a tell, asking if I was too late, and if not, what would be most useful.
The response made me chuckle, a bit. I could sense the frustration from someone I know to be as laid back as they get.
"Bring a toon that makes people follow simple instructions."
lol
Well, it got me thinking - and although my math is atrocious, and I tend to discount obvious things - (like monitor size, people having different systems than me with different capabilities, etc) - I asked myself this question:
Why is it that some people don't follow instructions?
Obviously, there are a host of reasons.
But, I'm only interested in the reasons that can be helped, if the player is willing to be helped.
After trying to explain how to display combat attributes via a slash command, then that not working and leading them step by step through Powers-->Combat Attributes---> etc, it occurred to me that in a way, I am playing a far different game than most.
Many of you use W,A,S,D to navigate your character, I use the arrow keys. Some of you use a mouse.
There's no right way, no wrong way. It's a preference. I totally get that.
(I suspect that W,A,S,D is "better" - but after this many years, that's too bad.)
Given all the differences in our set ups - I know I don't use the default - is there really that much of a surprise that people miss things in chat?
I'm guessing not. Not after I think about it.
I mentioned to a league last night that I almost always see people announce that they are "back" from afk, but I never see them say that they are going afk. (or, sometimes, the opposite)
It's a perception, and a flawed one.
What I'd like is for those of you that are smarter than me to come up with a guide to help people set up their UI with minimal clutter balanced with maximum information that's useful.
I honestly believe that a lot of league and request chat gets lost because people edit their channels, throwing everything into one box, and because rewards stack up pretty quickly on a trial, they miss pertinent information.
It may be silly of me to disregard that some people just don't care what the league leader's plan is, or that some people get slap-happy drunk when playing and are so buzzed they don't even know which toon they're operating when they look at the screen. There's nothing I can really do about those players, other than 1 star them and make a note.
But, I'm quite sure that there are players out there who simply are unaware of the extensive options we have. And I'm likely one of them!
For those players that do want to "not muck things up" - how would you recommend they set up their UI and chat boxes? -
Quote:oh....my.......if I didn't see my own words....I'd swear somebody was lying.Okay, distinct maths fail, there, since a billion times one is definitely a billion.
However, a windfall isn't going to massively affect purple drops anyway, since the chance of them dropping is so small.
If we take a fairly standard number that's thrown around of 1 in 5000, then all a windfall will do is increase that to 3 in 10000. Still not huge odds.
I'm just....stunned. Words just fail me, but glad someone pointed that out.
I think what I meant to say was a billion times zero is still zero - but that wouldn't have made sense in that context. Either way, I have told myself to just close my trap.
