Well I had high hopes of making a couple toons, that I thought would be nice in the new content. I found, atleast for now, I simply dont have the patience or desire to play a low lvl toon up to 50 again. So, that leaves me to develope the 50's I have not deleted from lack of use, or that I still play.
Nrg/Nrg blaster
Fire/Fire blaster
DM/SR scrapper
BS/WP scrapper
DB/Regen scrapper
Claws/FA brute.
Fun is relative, I think I enjoy my Nrg/Nrg blaster the most, but am frustrated on Lambda, though not so much on BAF. It is a pretty good soloer unless I get chain mezzed from some Carny boss. Farm he is best on the wall, as its easy and no danger.
Most powerfull seems to be my Claws brute. Farms pretty well, solos easily. I had kinda forgot about him on my return, and have not run the new trials with him.
DB/Regen I love, but he is not fun on the trials at all.
BS/WP, havent played him hardly since he hit 50. My easiest run to 50 yet, like the concept, never play him.
DM/SR his lack of AOE sucked the fun out of him for me.
Fire/Fire blaster, was part of a theme team, that dissolved. On his own he is pure pain, that he gives out, then quickly recieves back.
I dont have tons of cash (.5 billion) and am trying to decide which of these to pursue to the next level. They are all kinda limited in their own fashion, I always want a power toon, and then end up with some quirky less played combination.
So which one to through my resources or time at first with best results? Along with which may end up the relative strongest, what would be the build direction? -
Hmmm, looking at the alpha sets, maybe I should go ranged defense, and use the alpha to boost the range along with offsetting the extra toggle costs. Along with boost range, it will be 60% increase in range.
So I can have about double range, and nothing else really, or Close to soft capped range defense, better accuracy and some other bonuses and about 60% range increase. -
Long term and Incarnates question.
I decided instead of starting something new, I would jump back into my Nrg/Nrg blaster and try and breath some new life into him. So I respecced him for range, very similar to OP, lots of utility powers, Medicine pool, Hover, Stealth, Teleport.
I love the range, but have given up alot of global acc, recharge and all the regen he was built for when the sets first came out. I kinda miss some of those perks, but I have to admit the range is really fun. Do any of you long rangers spend alot of time on these toons, or is it more a novelty and then play something more mainstream? My other option was going ranged defense, which I had a build for. Easier to gain some other bonuses going that way.
What incarnates work best with ranged builds? I was trying to figure out what I could skimp on, and make up for in the alpha slot. With damage being taken care of with the dam/range Ho, its harder to mix and match end red, acc, and recharge.
Im also just back, so aside from the basic alpha stuff, I have no idea what the other slots will help me do with this type of build.
Any insight? -
I think everyone laid out the roles, but I will say one thing, it really comes down to what you like. I am recently back and ran my first lam last night. So much firepower and even tough groups went down so quickly, that it seems you either had time to debuff or deal damage, but likely little time to do both, except for Maurader at the end. If this is the end game like content, I will certainly rethink what characters to bring forward. I cant imagine playing a melee toon, both me and my lapttop are too slow for it.
-
Im back after leaving right before the incarnate system got going. Tried a couple of toons to see what I felt like playing. After trying all the power toons for a bit, I realized that Im stuck still loving Energy Blast. I have a 50 Nrg/Nrg, and have played a Mind/NRG dom into the 40's. So I have a decent knowledge of what NRG offers me.
That being said, considering the new content and incarnate system, Between Blaster/Corr/Def/Dom which of these is most needed and best suited for solo and teams.
I realize that in some ways the KB makes teaming a pain, though I myself, have not found it overly burdensome on teams if I use it appropriatly.
Ahh, as another restriction, I would not choose a buffing toon, as I would rather blast or lay down debuffs, instead of buffing or shielding teammates (yes, lazy selfish bastid).
My main thoughts are
My NRG/NRG, bring him up to speed.
Mind/NRG dom
Something/NRG dom
NRG/Dark,Rad,Traps Corr
TA,Dark,RAD,Traps/NRG Def
So any thoughts on the matter from those with experience in the new content? Thanks in advance -
Easier still to just shoot for 20% percent defense and get Shadowmeld.
I went for melee defense on my DB/Regen. He runs with a constant 23% or so melee, solo content is completly doable, I rarely even use my clicks. I run somewhere between 0/2-8, with bosses, depending on my mood.
I imagine /fire would be similar, HF is a nice heal. If I did DB/Fire, I would be tempted to only run the Sweep combo, along with Burn. You almost have too much AOE if you use both the sweep and vitals combo. Burn is too good not to use now, so you dont need all of DB's PBAOE powers I dont think. I actually like Sweep much better, more AOE, better mitigation.
You can get melee defense much cheaper, as it uses Deaths sets. Also, Scirroco for the AOE gives you Psi help, which you lack. -
My DB/Regen is presently my favorite scrapper.
I would go villian, get shadowmeld and go from there. Honestly, it may actually be better than all my regens abilities combined.
I run the Vitals, and Sweep combo's. I just alternate them. Its a nice set up for general PvE, as you can target the boss, and the minions die from the AOE's. Normal bosses go down fast enough, but dont expect to wow anyone with your AV prowess. It can certainly be done, but I think it kinda cripples the build for general play.
If you acquire Shadow Meld, you can do just fine with it, MOG, DP and Reconstruction. I actually find IH to be lackluster now, and rarely use it.
I am at work, and dont have mids available. But a nice cheap build is to just pick up full deaths sets for your single target attacks, Scirroco's for the PBAOE attacks. This will soft cap you to Melee when under Shadowmeld, and is a cheaper and I think more fun IO set than trying for S/L.
It is very clicky though. None of the Regen clicks will in theory break your chains, but in practice, server issues do cause you to miss the chain on occasion. Shadowmeld will break the chain, so use it before, or between chains.
In your initial build, you overslotted your ranged attacks at the expense of your melee attacks. I can understand wanting some range, but to be honest, DB/Regen is a poor choice for mixing them in, with the redraw, and click nature of Regen.
Good luck.
Go forth, kill Carnies, blades cuts through them like butter, they are easily my favorite high lvl mob to fight. -
Hmmm, unless I read the OP's post wrong, he is talking about having enough to buy some yellow IO's. Kinetic combats are going to cost you what, .5 billion for four sets?
Personnaly, I dont think its worth it. I looked at it for my old Nrg/Nrg blaster and the cost and power choices just made it look blah to me.
I think I would just build for recharge and damage, and blast away. You never know what different AT's can do. For instance, my blaster easily and safely can solo the cim wall, while my Regen scrapper cannot.
I guess my point is, that you may end up spending alot, and find it improves your toon, little, or maybe makes him worse.
I would build him to kill or be killed quickly. Very little can stand against Fires AOE's. Add in your Rise of the Phoenix, and you have a fairly quick moving killing machine, that faceplants once in a while, only to rise and destroy those who have defeated him.

Looks pretty goody Iggy.
I have not had much success with Dark, probably didnt give it the chance I should have many issues ago. I will look over the build for general ideas to apply to my Regen, or another if I start over.
I have to admit I have a soft spot for 1K cuts, though the build still retains some pretty good AOE capability.
I should probably change to Kat/something, but I dont much like the animations, even though I find the performance very nice. Claws also seems the better option, but after having several in the high 40's, I seem to be in the minority, in that I dont like the flow of the attacks very well. Never been a Wolverine fan, so that may hurt also.
Hmmmm, so much to ponder. -
I think I remember why I stopped playing my DB/Regen, think Im getting to slow to have to deal with all the clicks and the combo interuption. lol.
Not sure what my plan is at this point. -
So working on a budget, and starting out cheap to see if Im liking what I see, I was thinking something like this.

So you think I would need to fall back on SR, WP or stay with Regen Werner? I dont much care for Dark, so I wouldnt want to go that way. I have a 50 in Regen (DB), Sr (DM), and WP (BS). None of them are really made to solo AV's. I know the DM/SR could, but I dont find him much fun to play, with his lack of AOE. Whatever I do, I will keep the AOE combo.
Maybe I just need to throw a bit of money at Buccaneer here and see how he does. Even then, it looks like with a reasonable budget I could afford leaves me with about 20% S/L and 30% Melee. Not sure that combined with Regens tricks and Shadow Meld would get the job done either? -
Well, after getting drained to death by a Freak boss, I think my decision is made! I have a concept for electric already, so I think Ill start one up. Just need to decide on a server and make sure I want to go Scrapper over Brute.
I like both the sweep and AV combo's, so I guess it will be tough to maximize his single target and survivability. I wouldnt mind a build good enough for some AV work. I know it can be done, as one of the pretty good times on the Pilon was recorded by Shadowsylph DB elec I believe. -
High Dual Blades players.
To vary my play, I have broken out my lvl 50 DB/Regen. He has only common IO's at this point. I love the looks of the DB set, and thinking about starting another DB scrapper.
So for folks who have several DB's or some long term DB's what defensive set do you like or would you have picked differently if you had to do it again.
Was thinking about spending some cash on my present DB, but am thinking that possibly the money might be better spent on another secondary.
I would love to do /Fire, but after my Claws/Fire, I dont think that will be robust enough for me, for the funds I have. I was thinking Elec or possibly the ever popular WP may be the better long term choice.
Any thoughts, regrets on secondaries, or strong reccomendations? Im not sure there are any outstanding synergies with any of them, but I may be missing something. I usually do.
Thanks. -
Well, for good or bad, the four are chosen and off to the races.
Kat/Elec Scrapper. No deaths at lvl 6. Damage aura's are fun.
DB/WP Brute. Quick, faster killer so far. DB is just too nice to look at. He is a rebuild of my lvl 50 DB/Regen.
WM/Shield Brute. Ponderous describes him best. He seems slow, the big model just adds to the feeling. I think he will test my patience the most.
KM/NIN Stalker. He won out over KM/FA Brute or Scrapper. Mostly as I have a Lvl 45 Claws/FA. Another set I love to watch. I have never played a Stalker, I think the comparison between the style and blasters may be valid.
At lvl 12 and DO's I am going to run the first test on the boys. Since they will still be in different zones, that leaves AE missions.
So any suggestions on missions? Im going to run it both with and without bosses, and maybe a couple difficulty settings. Nothing too scientific, just going to time them and see how they do. -
Hello all.
Im starting a project to run four melee's to 50 together. I will keep them at equal lvls as the move up. The set three are.....
DB/WP brute
Kat/Elec Scrapper
WM/Shield brute
KM/?
I built him as a KM/Regen, but am concerned about his AOE. So I had considered going KM/FA to add burn and blazing aura to add to his aoe punch. I guess at that point I could make him a brute or even tanker. Last thought was I could make him a stalker, going KM/Nin maybe.
Looking for fun and something that isnt painful to begin (like possibly my WM/Shield).
Suggestions? Even if its Kinetic Melee paired with something I havent mentioned, and wont be a duplicate of the above defense sets. -
Thanks for the opinions.
Im giving it a try now on my Claws/FA brute. At first glance its helping, though quite an endurance suck.
I took Gloom, but I imagine it doesnt really have a good place in a claws attack chain since it forces redraw? -
Hi experts.
I recently have been leveling up a Claws/FA brute to 46. Never playing a brute, I forgot you had to do the patron arc to get the PP, so I havent tried out Darkest Night yet. I have shamefully just farm/lvld him up to his current lvl.
On the tip missions I have run, and some random bosses, I have been unimpressed, but thats the nature of FA I guess.
So I think Im going to make a DM/FA character. Brute or Scrapper is still up in the air and almost seems to hang on the Darkest Night, Shadow Meld debate for me.
Different powers, but both an added layer of survivability. Which of these two powers do you experts think add the most to a DM/FA melee character?
Thanks for any help on this. -
Well, I slotted it up as I leveled and only use it last now. It still scatters what it doesnt kill, but Im getting a feel for how to use it with Katana. I was pushing it at 0/8 and went back down to -1/8 as I accumulate some of the set pieces I am looking for via AE tickets.
Thanks for the input Strato -
Made a Kin/Fire, was having fun, then decided it was a bit squishy for my tastes. Remade as Kat/Fire. Was humming along swimmingly, until I just got Burn. I know the fear was removed, but that dot seems to send the running just as bad. I was excited about the Lotus Drops, Flashing Steel, Burn combo. Thing is, it seems to be scattering them so badly, Im dying on my lttle lvling farm from all the scatter and actually killing slower most times.
I have read what the AI is doing from the running threads, but am quickly becomming disenchanted by Burn. I didnt seem to have this issue before with Kin, but maybe it was its much slower killing speed of mobs?
Will this be an ongoing headache? Im really loving Katana and have a nice concept, but am wondering about rerolling again as Kat/? or Making a BS/Shield that Im reading so much on of late.
Any input from Kat/Fire's or anything/Fire for that matter on the Burn issue? Seems like what I have read about Spines/Fire is that folks are having similar issues?
Thanks for any help or input. -
I have built myself a KM/Fire scrapper and having a ton of fun with it. I have been looking at mids wondering which way to go with the end build if I like it.
I have a 50 SR, WP and Regen. Pretty straight forward on what to build for there.
With fire it seems you could go recharge for HF and more offense, Recovery because of all the offense and toggles running, Tough to raise your Res, or try and mayb cap or raise S/L or Melee defense.
End goals are PVE only. Some half arsed farming maybe. Wouldnt mind some AV soloing (inspiration use would be fine).
This is what Im looking at preliminarily. Wondering if tough is needed if trying to leverage Shadow Meld.

I have an Energy/Energy/Fire.
I guess I would first wonder how you play?
I noticed unless I missed it, no Energy Torrent. About a 1 second activation cone with KB, solo its a great survival tool. You only have 1 of the first three ranged blasts, and the one you have us under slotted for damage.
Im not sure why the heavy investment in stealth. With the lack of offense, once you become seen, I dont see a way to dispatch the mobs quick enough to help you.
As a blapper build, I think you have too little defense if thats what you are trying for.
I run difficulty of 0/8 with bosses on or off depending on my mood. Its hectic and not efficient like a dedicated farmer, but fun and pretty doable. I built it in the early days of IO's and its built for regen and recharge by accident at the time. The recharge is great, the regen is likely of little help in all reality. You can surpass it easily by just going /mm now.
This is the powers I would take if you want to continue on with Fire and the Concealment pool. I would switch to Leviathan now along with medicine myself.

I know what you mean. I simply dont like any of the sets as well as Energy. My main and favorite is my Energy/Energy. I do everything with it. I am a bit excited as the new PP's add the ability to add another cone, so will improve his farming.
No he is not great at it, I farm on 0/8, but it works for me and is fun.
I cant get excited about GR so far, so think I will reroll him as a Energy/MM and see if I can expand the type of groups he can handle. -
Think I found my answers.
The new apps makes dominators, atleast on paper, look like the blaster I always wanted.
