Newbie looking for help DB/Fire

Hello All,

This is my first attempt at a Scrapper, I love the look of DB and it's got some AoE that I like (I hate spines) and Fire always is a favorite of mine so naturally I want to combine the two.

I understand that the first combo in DB is skip-able, so I won't be taking the tier one attack.

Could anyone post a build that will be survivable for most PvE content? I am not looking to do AV's at this point but it could change, I have about a billion Inf to spend on this toon, but no idea how to build it. I will be teaming for the most part so I will get some extra +DEF that way, and some RES too.

Thanks in advance folks, I hear that /Fire is alot more squishy so I could use a hand.

I will just post my spines / fire build and let you adapt it to work for Dual Blades. My build attempts to get 32.5% vector (melee, ranged, and AoE) defenses so you can pop a small purple and be at the soft cap. It feels invincible to have soft capped defenses on a resistance-based set and have a big heal. Most of the time, you don't even need to use a purple.

This build does not include hasten. Instead it depends on the Alpha Slot's 45% recharge bonus and other global recharge bonuses from sets. The slots in sprint and rest are for health and stamina. Standarad slotting for health is Numina and Miracle uniques. Slotting for Stamina would be three Performance Shifters, one being the proc.

Thank you, I'll have to check it out when I get home.

Is Fire really that squishy?

Well, maybe as far as Scrappers go, but you're still a Scrapper, so I wouldn't call it squishy exactly. However, you put enough Defense in there and it'll toughen up considerably. Personally, I find it easier to shoot for S/L defense if the Scrapper doesn't already have some defense built into the set. There are some pretty massive bonuses for S/L around that are relatively cheap. Well, relatively. Within your budget, I'd say. Kinetic Combats for instance.

You're also going to be doing so much damage that mobs wwill be defeated before they have too much time to really go to work on you, so that helps as well.

Easier still to just shoot for 20% percent defense and get Shadowmeld.

I went for melee defense on my DB/Regen. He runs with a constant 23% or so melee, solo content is completly doable, I rarely even use my clicks. I run somewhere between 0/2-8, with bosses, depending on my mood.

I imagine /fire would be similar, HF is a nice heal. If I did DB/Fire, I would be tempted to only run the Sweep combo, along with Burn. You almost have too much AOE if you use both the sweep and vitals combo. Burn is too good not to use now, so you dont need all of DB's PBAOE powers I dont think. I actually like Sweep much better, more AOE, better mitigation.

You can get melee defense much cheaper, as it uses Deaths sets. Also, Scirroco for the AOE gives you Psi help, which you lack.

Fire is squishier when you compare it to some of the other sets that can get def up alot easier. SR and SD are ones that you can soft cap ranged/melee/aoe fairly easily on and that gives pve mobs the lowest possible chance to actually hit you.

I would not recommend this as your first scrapper. First of all, DB is the only scrapper primary that requires you to perform combinations of attacks to get the max dps. ( MA has one exception ) All others are primarily "click whatever recharges first."
So, if even one attack misses, you miss out on the buff that you would normally get at the end of the attach chain. As such, it is by far the weakest primary of the scrappers I've made thus far.

Also, fire does not provide much damage mitigation. The combination of DB/Fire provides for challenging play for a veteran - it could become very frustrating for a new player. I rarely faceplant with my scrappers, this is the one exception. My DB/Fire right now is sitting at level 43 and will probably remain there until they provide some buffs to either power set.

It's relevant, so I thought I'd post. My first villain main was a DB/Fiery brute. It's been a while since I've played him(sorta became an altoholic after he hit 50), so with the more recent issues, it could only get better for him.

-Temperature Protection didn't give slow resist.
-Consume didn't have the 15s recovery.
-Burn had the fear effect.
-Fiery Embrace applied a damage buff which was in favor of fire damage based attacks.

That being said, slows and psionic damage were my biggest problem. Being paired together, when they hit, they hit hard. Healing Flames then took a dive with the impaired recharge, and I had to try relying on keeping everything KDed.

I had to slot Kinetic Crash with the KB prot hole since I didn't have enough for some of the more expensive IOs and didn't have enough powers to go around for Acrobatics.

For combos, I ended up with Sweep and Attack Vitals which helped by keeping everything off their feet. For my PPP, I had Leviathan Mastery for the cones which I used in place of Taunt(maybe not the best idea).

Just tried him out again and was able to solo on +2 x8 difficulty. I won't post his build, since it's a little outdated and built with tanking more in mind, but...

Recommendations: KD is your friend, it'll give you a moment to use your Healing Flames. Temperature Protection was largely skippable, and it still can be considered as such, but with inherent Fitness it looks more and more attractive. The slow resist could be a great boon since your def won't be as high as some other sets. It's also is a good mule for a Steadfast Prot: KB Prot IO. Don't be afraid to go down if you take the rez, I'd encourage it from time to time even. Learn your positioning so you can maximize your combos. Nothing's worse than getting Attack Vitals set up, only to move and find that your precious combo chain expired.
