Dual Blade players Question

High Dual Blades players.

To vary my play, I have broken out my lvl 50 DB/Regen. He has only common IO's at this point. I love the looks of the DB set, and thinking about starting another DB scrapper.

So for folks who have several DB's or some long term DB's what defensive set do you like or would you have picked differently if you had to do it again.

Was thinking about spending some cash on my present DB, but am thinking that possibly the money might be better spent on another secondary.

I would love to do /Fire, but after my Claws/Fire, I dont think that will be robust enough for me, for the funds I have. I was thinking Elec or possibly the ever popular WP may be the better long term choice.

Any thoughts, regrets on secondaries, or strong reccomendations? Im not sure there are any outstanding synergies with any of them, but I may be missing something. I usually do.

Thanks.

There's reasons to go with all of them.

WP is a strong set, easy to buff up the survivability while fitting in enough recharge to get Blinding Feint -> Attack Vitals -> Repeat for those hard targets, while suppling Sweep Combo (or just the AOE attacks) for faster spawn clearing.

WP comes with the advantage of only having the tier 9 being a clickie, so you won't have to click a heal mid combo, and possibly be slow on the continuation of that combo.

That said, enjoying my DB/ELA Brute so far. Will have multiple clickies, but I think it'll be good, by survinging long enough to drain the targets, then killing them off.

I like both my DB/elec and DB/sr. Both are in their 30s so they are coming into their own. /sr will obviously be the sturdier one of the two which overs up DBs lack of mitigation(no sweep combo for me), but /elec is fun with the damage aura and the added end recovery.

Well, after getting drained to death by a Freak boss, I think my decision is made! I have a concept for electric already, so I think Ill start one up. Just need to decide on a server and make sure I want to go Scrapper over Brute.

I like both the sweep and AV combo's, so I guess it will be tough to maximize his single target and survivability. I wouldnt mind a build good enough for some AV work. I know it can be done, as one of the pretty good times on the Pilon was recorded by Shadowsylph DB elec I believe.

DPS is less important for AV work than you might imagine. Mostly, it just speeds things up. Serious survivability is what you need, and I doubt that Dual Blades/Electric will deliver. A few might be possible with a very focused build. Or maybe it's easier than I think, and someone will post to say, "No problem, I solo AVs all the time on my DB/Electric".

So you think I would need to fall back on SR, WP or stay with Regen Werner? I dont much care for Dark, so I wouldnt want to go that way. I have a 50 in Regen (DB), Sr (DM), and WP (BS). None of them are really made to solo AV's. I know the DM/SR could, but I dont find him much fun to play, with his lack of AOE. Whatever I do, I will keep the AOE combo.

Maybe I just need to throw a bit of money at Buccaneer here and see how he does. Even then, it looks like with a reasonable budget I could afford leaves me with about 20% S/L and 30% Melee. Not sure that combined with Regens tricks and Shadow Meld would get the job done either?

In no particular order, and specifically for AV soloing no temps no insps, I'd say Super Reflexes, Willpower or Invulnerability. Willpower might be your least proven commodity there, but I don't anticipate any major problems. Regeneration should be able to pull it off, but I think is moving down a notch. I don't think I'd try it with Dark Armor, Electric Armor or Fiery Aura. Well, if I had one, I'd try it, but I wouldn't specifically start one or build one for it.

Since you already have a Dual Blades/Regen, if you want to stick with Dual Blades, you could certainly go after AVs with that, unless you just want to start something new. That one depends a lot on budget, though, since you want buckets of recharge. I suspect that 30% melee, Shadow Meld, and all of Regen's tricks at a high recharge would get the job done. Broad Sword/Willpower could probably pull it off at a much lower budget point if you want to consider that. But Dual Blades probably has more of the AoE goodness if you're trying to make a general-purpose toon instead of a dedicated AV soloer. And who makes dedicated AV soloers any more?

Yeah, that doesn't look bad, but is it AV good? OK, yes it is. But is it non-smashing/lethal AV good? Yeah, I didn't think... wait, what? No, seriously, if it is, it's just because you're Iggy, and everyone knows you're haxxorz.

Looks pretty goody Iggy.

I have not had much success with Dark, probably didnt give it the chance I should have many issues ago. I will look over the build for general ideas to apply to my Regen, or another if I start over.

I have to admit I have a soft spot for 1K cuts, though the build still retains some pretty good AOE capability.

I should probably change to Kat/something, but I dont much like the animations, even though I find the performance very nice. Claws also seems the better option, but after having several in the high 40's, I seem to be in the minority, in that I dont like the flow of the attacks very well. Never been a Wolverine fan, so that may hurt also.

Hmmmm, so much to ponder.

Yeah does fine against Marauder and such. Infernal and the likes however... well just can't get DR to come back fast enough

For AV soloing, I'm not going to say every AV can be soloed. However, from a survivability standpoint, and a DPS stand point, I really can't see Dual Blades/PICK A SECONDARY, not being able to do so.

Yes, you'll have to focus on specific IO set bonuses, but BF - AV - Repeat is a pretty solid, not to hard to obtain DPS chain, and a what other sets lack in the DEF compartment, can usually be made up enough with IOs to have it stack nicely with their other defenses.

Mind you, this is also likely to limit your AOE aility of Dual Blades, as it would likely require you to rely on BF - Attack Vitals, as you need to use other powers to fill in the defenses.
