  1. Just bought a Panasonic TC-L32C3 TV monitor to replace my dead monitor. I got it hooked up, and can use the computer fine. Internet, video and audio playback fine.
Problem is, as soon as the game loads up, the screen goes blank, and nothing I can do other than hitting the reset on the computer gets me out of the no screen mode.

    Any ideas?

    Kicked from LaM

12 for 12 kicked out of a LAM on loadup. Baf No problem.

    No ideas?
  3. I think random is the only "possible" fair way.
Everyone has the same chance.... Seems fair by that definition.....
Personal relationships can't change your chances. No sucking up to the RNG and having laziness overlooked.
So no favoritism.... Seems fair by that definition.
So then, by WHAT definition is random NOT fair?
This comes down to the magic "me" then.

Get it straight people, fair and what's best for you are NOT one and the same.

One last time. What could be MORE fair than random?
  4. Just yesterday I did a LAM.

    Help with outside, check.
Help with inside, and turrets, check.
    Help with Security Guard, check.
Inside lab sneaked around, and 9/10 destroyed one object from range, and splashed the object's guards with my Incarnate blast.
    Helped defeat Preator Flea Flicker.

    Got 10 threads!

I must not have tagged enough in the lab.
  5. The human mind CAN'T conceive pure randomness.

Put your index fingers in the corner of your closed eyes, and gently put pressure on the eyeballs until it is almost painful. After a few seconds of this, the pressure on the optic nerves will cause you to "see" very bright lights in a constantly changing set of geometric patterns.
The stimulus is pure random, but the brain MUST fit the random data into a pattern. Hence, the constantly changing patterns. Much like "'what does that cloud look like". Optical illusions play on this, using our "training" against us.

Take an old school pure analog TV with no signal and turn it on. You get what we used to call, "ant wars". THAT is what pure random looks like. Remarkably different from the kaleidoscopic visions you get from the eye pressure. That's because seeing actually happens in the brain, as a result of active pattern recognition. "Filling in the blanks"

Once you get past the 10 threads window into the rewards window, it is random.

You are seeing a pattern that is NOT there, because it is in your nature to see patterns, trends, and try to anticipate them. Seeing patterns and anticipating them keeps us alive. It's what we do.

We CAN'T shut that off, any more than a literate person can look at the written word and not read it.
Of COURSE you think you see a pattern, you can't not see one.

There is no pattern to the drops.
  6. My brother did this on Virtue, and I was impressed. In a bad way. He got to fire his attack powers ONCE, and they never recharged. He died, used a self rez. 4 minutes later he rose. This took more than 3 minutes to activate. He was unable to retoggle his armor before being defeated. He went to the hospital, and he couldn't move for 3 minutes in the rez chamber.

We had a stopwatch, we were timing. Numbers NOT pulled out of stinky hole.

After about 15 minutes of this crap he logged off Virtue in disgust.

My plan for the Invasion on Freedom? (where I spend almost all my game time)

Log each Character in that I am interested in the badge(s) for the event. Hope I don't crash. Log out ASAP, and go to Virtue and play my one of my "Freedom is down/Invite my brother into his SG" alts.
  7. This is not unprecedented. When I change the gamma of the game and tab to firefox, it changes the brightness of the web page. (I use this to know when I have finished a long load up!) The page lightens when the zone load up is complete.
  8. Co-lateral damage, or coincidence?
The latest issue installing seems to have messed up my firefox settings.

I set the colors and font sizes to be easy on my aging eyes. Problem?

After installing the latest patch, my firefox browser will no longer change the size of the fonts on both links and text.(it uses the websites choice of sizing)
I cant seem to make it back to where it was. Am I missing something in my firefox controls?
  9. Golden Girl suffers from "the false belief fallacy".
If you take a child below a certain age and reasoning ability and show them a box of crayons that is closed and contains pencils not crayons. Ask them what is inside the box. They will say crayons. Then you show this child the pencils inside. Then you ask the child, "If I showed this box to an other kid and ask them what's inside the box, what would their answer be?"

Below a certain age the child will always respond, "Pencils!"
Even though the child knows it was wrong on the first guess because of the type of box, they can't imagine someone else NOT knowing what they NOW know!
They can't grasp the idea of a different perspective, and a different knowledge base to work from.

They literally can't imagine how someone else thinks.

Everyone knows what you already know, and no one has a different perspective.

Many of the folk in Preatoria haven't seen the pencils yet, and still believe in crayons.
  10. Mine were not on, and I keep having to turn them BACK on, when I log in.
  11. That's funny. Somewhere in the teens I start getting ambushes in all rescue and kidnaps. If you go for the door at a normal pace as soon as you get the NPC chat indicating "rescue/kidnapping complete lead them out" and don't dilly dally you will get to the door before your ambush spawns. Often I go back to the hostage room and find the ambush waiting for me along the way. It has been that way since issue 5 when I started playing.
  12. This is all great, but why don't you simply buy a jet pack in the shard from the vendor?

That will give you fly for the TF, and leave your build undisturbed.
  13. I have a horrible idea.
What happens to those supers that vanish?

Think Reichsman. Why is he so powerful? He sucks power from many supers (alternative Statesdudes) across many dimensions.

Think Preatorian Hamidon, much larger and more powerful than his Primal counterpart.

Where is Cole going to get the extra juice he needs you keep Hami under control?
Sorta like Reichsman, and sorta like with Kheldians, the power drain is fatal to the "donor" of power.

THAT"S where the supers are going. They are being consumed for fuel to keep the DE at bay.

That would present an interesting moral dilemma eh?
Would you take the "whatever" force from supers to save humanity, even if it kills the donors?

If you interrupt the supply of "power" saving the supers, you condemn billions to the DE.
There's your baby on the train tracks moral dilemma.
  14. OK, I give up.
What order is invention salvage organized in? (in the AE ticket vendor)

    It's not alphabetical.

Source Code, Alien Blood Sample, Complex Chemical Formula are the first 3 listed.

    S C, A B S, C C F. Can't be alphabetical. S, A, C. C, B, C.
IS there a system? Perhaps the items have numbers we can't see ordering them, like when you get a mission with "NPC 9038275" in stead of a name.
  15. Tonaka

    Loyalist?

I used to work at an X rated video store/strip club.

When people asked if the boobs were real, I would say,
"They are not real as the legal definition of real as in 'real cheese' means no artificial ingredients means, but they are NOT imaginary. She doesn't take them out and put them in a glass of water at night like you would with dentures either."
  16. I have a question for both sides of this.

I consider a graph. One axis is number of people. One axis is the amount of injustice and suffering.

Just as a graph of engine power is RPM and horsepower, the important part is how many squares are filled in, not how high the peak of horsepower is. THIS shows how usable your engine is under real world conditions. Not just that tiny little powerband at it's peak. A big fat curve beats the heck out of a hyperbola.

It is well known that there is suffering and injustice in all societies. As long as there are people there WILL be injustice and suffering. The government that causes the LEAST amount of suffering and injustice is best.

The question to me is how many squares are filled in in the graph. The Preatorian hyperbola curve of injustice and suffering, vs the fat curve of Primal Earth to me shows that the vast majority of humans on Preatoria have it better than their Primal Earth counterparts.

I mean I know it would seriously suck for the poor people in Mother Mayhem's place, and that sort of thing but......

The sheer NUMBER of people that suffer every bit as much, if not more is far greater in Primal Earth.
The Preatorians may be a sadistic nasty bunch, but the scale of suffering on Primal Earth. Yeesh!

I would propose that Preatoria IS as close to paradise as people can come, and still have people in it. For every poor soul suffering in Preatora, there are 1000s suffering just as much as on Primal Earth.Perhaps 10s of 1000s.

I'll see you your Mayhem's cruelty, and raise you a Vahzilok, a Circle, a Lost, and 2 Rikti wars!
I didn't even to need throw in a Crey, a Council, a Tsoo, or any Skulls, Hellions or Outcasts.

Do any of you truly understand the SCALE of misery that came from the Rikti wars alone? How many wept bitter tears because Nemisis didn't have his head popped like zit on Brass Monday?* How many shattered lives?

There is but ONE forbidden thing in Preatoria, and that is to oppose Cole. Preatoria is NOT totalitarian, but authoritarian. There is an important distinction. Cole cares not what you do unless you plan to challenge his rule.
You can sit on your lazy behind and never starve if you of a mind to live such an empty life. So be it
you lazy slug! There will always be the stupid and lazy. Get fat, and veg out.

My final question would be, other than trying to change who is in charge, what can you NOT do in Preatoria that you can in Primal Earth?
You see the small group that suffers as individuals and thus they mean more to your than the faceless millions. Well each and every one of those millions you discount because your mind can't grasp the scale are induviduals!

*I will close with a quote from Stalin. "A single death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic."

  18. I am going through a lot of underplayed alts. Dusted off my Bots traps MM. Started to do an arc. So far so good.
    Problem.
I can't seem to get the dummies to just frikking hold still and shoot. No running after runners. No closing to melee, just frikking STAND STILL AND SHOOT!
I set them all to Defensive, Stay. It keeps giving me a conflicting commands warning. (huh!?)The dummies are just flat out disobeying me at times as well. When they chase runners, and I tell them Go To here, they get about halfway back and reverse course after the runner again.

First of all, what is the possible conflict between defensive and stay put? I can see Aggressive and Stay here as conflicting. I can see Aggressive, Follow me as a conflict.

Second of all is there any way to make them follow me and ONLY counter fire with ranged, not close to melee as part of their return fire?

In other words, I want them to stick together and only shoot at range.

Can this be done? Or is this just part of the wonky AI, no work
    around?
  19. This question is like asking which vehicle you should drive, a 4x4 or a canyon racer.
That sorta depends on what you plan on doing with it now.

You can't tow a trailer or go off road in a racer, and you can't go as fast around corners on good road or get good gas mileage out of a 4x4.

Do you want to hoverblast, or blapperdance?

Hover will let you be a floating weapons platform that needs only minimal movement. Air Sup will let you ground those pesky flyers that get in your face if there are more than one or your tier 1 secondary has no anti fly in it. (chilblain I love you!)
CJ will let you blap. Ping ponging back and forth over the heads of many foes will confuse their AI and allow you to shoot on the move if you shoot while in mid jump.
How do you want to play?
  20. I would like this option as well, but for a slightly different reason. When I am playing, what is happening to the team changes the way I act. I will redirect firepower to help a team mate who is in trouble when playing a blaster, or use other powers when playing a support/fighter.

I don't LIKE having to sort out what power is what with so much variation. I start seeing wierd colors and what not, and I have to think much longer and harder on what to do.

Is that a custom power being used by a friendly, or a debuff being applied to a team mate?
There is a nuts and bolts utility to knowing what powers are being used at a glance!
Split second thinking is slowed down when I have to figure out what is what.
That and some folks like colors that seriously interfer with my vision in a cave.
  21. got on, hope you all can soon.....
  22. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!
You snotty faced wiper of other peoples bottoms! Now go ayway before I taunt youha a second tiemh!
  23. Solo hunt Bosses in the street. Bosses even con are worth the same as a mission completion bonus.

Unfortunatly, you are Villain side. Solo hunting bosses mugging civvies Hero side get more prestige when the greatful civvie thanks you. (Yet an OTHER red blue inequity)

Not sure if there is a bonus for breaking up a weapons/dope deal Red side, but there sure as heck aren't any greatful civvies.
