Flight or Jumping (From a new player)
I've got a Sonic/Ice blaster I play on occasion. Which power is better Flight or Jumping? Jumping gives some good defensive bonuses.

Superjump moves faster then Flight, but you have to deal with landing and going over/around obsticles... flight you can just go up and cruise from one spot to the next. In general superjump gets you where you're going in less time then flight.
Air Superiority is a fantastic filler attack with 100% knockdown (with a bit of recharge you can permanently knockdown a single target with this attack. Jumpkick is a much beloved attack that unfortuately is still not all that good.
Group fly is worthless except as a set mule... acrobatics uses endurance to give you something you can get from IO sets for free.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
Skip them all and use temp travel powers (raptor pack and zero-G) until you decide... that's what i've done with my latest blaster (level 22) because I haven't decided on travel power.
Hover is a great power for Blasters in that it lets you, literally, hover over your opponents heads while raining mass death on them. Fly, as mentioned, is a lot more 'From A to B' than Super jump in certain cases. And its incredibly safe.
Air Superiority is superior to Jump Kick in both ways; It animates faster and has a better % chance for Knockdown.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I like flight but every time I've taken hover/fly on a character I've missed the mobility of combat jumping and it's immobilization protection. It's irritating just to use up a breakfree just because you're rooted in place. Super jump is also faster than flight by far, and is pretty fast with just the default slot. Flight on the other hand (and hover as well) require more investment in slots to have adequate speed.
Usually I only take flight for characters that call for them being flying characters by concept. If I'm just min/maxing then it's combat jumping/super jump everytime.
Of the travel powers i usually take on blasters...it's usually SJ or Fly.
I'll start on the pre-req's first...
CJ does offer pretty good combat mobility straight out of the gate...and gets a bit better when you add it hurdle for added distance and height. It also has the immobilization protection, although you are still often stuck to the ground as many immobillys also stick you to the ground (-fly, -jump)...which can still get you into some trouble.
Hover, as mentioned, gives the same defense bonus as CJ (read: minor) and doesn't give you the same degree of mobility. On the other hand, it does give you a different DEGREE of mobility. Many moons ago...hover was sssslllllooooowwwww. It's still not the fastest thing around..but it's now at least fast enough to manuever around a bit in combat. With some love (which all my flyers give it) it can be boosted to REALLY close to normal running speed with swift (sprint NOT turned on)...which is fast enough to pretty much keep turned on full time, with the occasional switch over to fly for those longer hallways. For me...3 flight speeds in hover and 1 in swift and i never touch the ground unless i nuke or something.
I won't really even go into the Fly/Super Jump thing. We all know that flight is the slowest travel, but with some love it's not TOO horrible (however...temporary flight powers like raptor pack...will always be TONS slower than the actual travel power). But...you make a good scout in outdoor missions...lol. (find that glowie)
In some cases, and don't know about yours...don't think it applies to you though, you'd have to think about what powersets you have. If you've got a power that you need to be on the ground for...jumping is probably the way to go...at least if you're like me with flight...i tend to stay airborne.

Someone say something funny.
That'll do, pig. That'll do.
I like Fly becasue:
1. I'm in the red, hit fly and space straight up to safety.
2. When commuting, put it on auto and chat.
3. I suck at stairs and fall off walkways.
That said, my 48 has SS and Fly and my fly is 50 mph with SS at 100. I specced out of SJ on the only toon that had it. Jumping's not bad, and CJ is good regardless of travel.
And, of note with travel, the non-pool teleports are good. Oro is available after 25, just go through someone else's portal and get to the top of the steeple. Log out in Wentworth's to get the temp power of tping to a Went in any city. And if you buy...I think it's Good v Evil pack, which has crap costumes, you get a Mission Teleport, which will take you to door mishs regardless of where you are.
Early in the game, when nearly to Kings Row in the sewer, when everyone suicides, just tp back to Went's or keep a door mish handy.
I'm pretty thematic with my toons. For most blaster sets fly feels right.
@knightsblade
This question is like asking which vehicle you should drive, a 4x4 or a canyon racer.
That sorta depends on what you plan on doing with it now.
You can't tow a trailer or go off road in a racer, and you can't go as fast around corners on good road or get good gas mileage out of a 4x4.
Do you want to hoverblast, or blapperdance?
Hover will let you be a floating weapons platform that needs only minimal movement. Air Sup will let you ground those pesky flyers that get in your face if there are more than one or your tier 1 secondary has no anti fly in it. (chilblain I love you!)
CJ will let you blap. Ping ponging back and forth over the heads of many foes will confuse their AI and allow you to shoot on the move if you shoot while in mid jump.
How do you want to play?
Dr Tanaka 50 Stone/Stone Tank
Cool MacCool 50 AR/Ice Blaster
Cold MacCool 50 ice/ice Blaster
Alura Darkstone 41 Brute Dark/Stone
Dr Akanat 40 Brute Stone/Stone
and many more
And if you buy...I think it's Good v Evil pack, which has crap costumes, you get a Mission Teleport, which will take you to door mishs regardless of where you are.

The Good vs Evil Pack gives you the Pocket D teleporter.
