  1. I will echo everyone and say its a tough choice.

Part of me would want to be loyal to my main toon and name sake Tired Angel (Grav/Storm 'troller) but at the same time there are a couple of toons that haven't quite hit 50 that would be uber if I made them incarnates (my Warshade, my Rad/Dark 'fender and my Shield/Electric Tank).

And then there is also my Bots/Traps MM and my Fire/Fire tank!

    Oooo the choices :S

I never knew that. I just went onto Red Tomax to check and at level 15 unyeilding provides:

    Quote:
-7.725 Stun, Held, Sleep, Immobilize for 0.75s If NOT on a PvP map
Effect does not stack from same caster
and at level 50 is provides:

    Quote:
-12.975 Stun, Held, Sleep, Immobilize for 0.75s If NOT on a PvP map

So you are right but still having nearly 8 mags worth of protection at level 15 (which is what I would have been) is still quite high.

  4. Pretty much all of mine will be taking advantage of inherent fitness. I've already done builds for my 70 odd characters. Very few of them won't actually need respecing and thats because they are really low level.

Add to that the fact that Master Illusionists will spawn 3 more Illusionists and you have SIX mag 2 holds coming in at you that almost no one will be able to avoid (since I can't think of a whole lot of builds that can achieve large amounts of Psi defense), and if the Dark Servant the MI also spawns happens to tag you with Petrifying Gaze, you will be held through any amount of hold protection you have.

2 Malta Hercules Titans can hold a tank quite easily. They have a missile that leaves a patch of basically autohit hold. If a tank stands in that patch for too long, it will quickly overpower hold protection.
I just wanted to say that I agree with Claws' overview on the situation in the thread but always wanted to throw in my own experience of a tank being mezzed.

I was on a Posi TF (part 1 I think) with my Invulnerable tank and we were fighting some CoT. We had accidently aggro'd two mobs and I was trying my best to contain them. At one point I had 4 ruin mages on me all spamming their attacks and at one point I actually got held. It was only for a few seconds but it was enough make me double check my toggles were running (which they were). So it is possible for mezzing mobs to easily stack a hold on a melee AT so I think the 10 is just right.

As for the Aegis Mez protection I would never put it in a click power. Although I would never put a power that has limited duration in a click power (including the ones that last 120s), I always put them in toggles or auto powers. I use it in Steamy Mist on my Grav/Storm and stack it with other set bonuses such as the ones from Expedient Reinforcement. Every little helps IMO!

This - although I would take Ice Arrow for stacking holds against bosses.

Disruption Arrow is a nice -15% resistance debuff and doesn't require much (if any) slotting.
  7. My Shield/Electric Tank just hit 40 and he is a blast to play. His current build doesn't have Tough or Weave yet (planned on taking them in the 40s) but with I19 coming and inherent Fitness I will be able to respec them in much earlier. He can deal some brilliant AoE damage and I can easily see him becoming one of my fav toons to play. I currently solo very comfortably on +0/x3 but find myself agroing multiple groups and not having any particular issue with them.
  8. Thank you for your great response SuperOz, it really has given me something to think about, however I think we are coming from different perceptions of same thing. As you say:

    Quote:
The problem there is that I disagree with that assessment. I find extremis to be the norm as far as current entertainment, in a great number of forms across a great range of media.
From my experience from what I choose to watch I don't find this the case while from your experience you do. And there is nothing wrong with that as there is a good chance we choose to watch/read different things.

For example on a daily basis I watch stuff which is just silly/fun (e.g. Sarah-Jane Adventures, Whites, Family Guy, My Family, 30 Rock, The Inbetweeners), stuff that blends the fun or interesting with real life (Doctor Who, The Bill, House, Glee, Merlin, Lie to Me, Sherlock, Hustle, Justice League, Casualty) and then the extreme realism (Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Angel, Being Human). I would also add to the extreme realism the later series of Smallville and Buffy as they got quite dark towards the end. And I find all of these entertaining and watch them for different reasons.

But again this is just purely from my perception of what I choose to watch (and this isn't a comprehensive list of everything I watch at the moment) and doesn't cover everything that is available to watch as well.

I was going to respond to the rest of your post but realised it was going to get into a discussion about one (maybe two) programs which in way will create a tangent away from your original point about the over saturation of extreme "realism" in the media.

I think my argument boils down to what my perception is vs what yours is and there is no way to prove/disprove either. So I sense an agree to disagree moment

Edit - just read what Electric-Knight wrote and find myself agreeing with what is said here:

    Quote:
However, I find the real problem to be that being grittier/darker (focusing on soul searching and the like) generally requires a greater quality of writing to work well.
But again it comes down to opinion again about what works and what doesn't. The examples of the darker stuff I watch above, to me, do handle it well where others may disagree.
  9. I have to disagree. I find nothing wrong with adding realistic reactions of an average person when put into extreme situations.

One reason is that there is also plenty of media out there that doesn't do this either at all or to a different extent. And this is me thinking as someone who watches this as entertainment.

To take your example of Russell T. Davies. In recent years he has bought back Doctor Who, created a new series Torchwood and re-introduced another character in the Sarah-Jane Adventures. All three programs are based around the same franchise but each approach the idea of realism of the characters reactions in very different ways.

On one side you have The Sarah-Jane Adventures. Although this has been created as a kids program me and my partner find the program great fun to watch. The characters have interesting adventures, real life situations are dealt with in a mature yet understandable way but everything does turn out ok in the end.

In the middle you have Doctor Who. This program has a mixture of realistic reactions (for example loss, ie the doctor losing his companions) and having fun and thrilling adventures. Not everything is ok at the end, but the spirit of adventure remains.

And on the other side you have Torchwood. This was always billed as the dark side of Doctor Who and it does what it says on the tin. It takes ordinary people and put them in extreme distressing situations. As you mention there is Childrem of Earth but there is always the cannibal episode and the deaths of Owen and Toshiko. Nothing ever seems to turn out ok and every character takes away something from each episode to digest about their inner nature.

Now each of these approach the idea of realism of human nature in different ways and I find each of them as entertaining as the other. If current media was flooded with just the extreme then, yes, it would be a problem but its not.

There are also programs that try to find a balance with extreme realism and the "its ok in the end" approach. My main thoughts here are about the series Glee. It has dealt with some extremely difficult issues with some quite painful reactions (e.g. Kurt coming to terms with his homosexuality and Quinn's pregnancy) in both hard hitting ways (some intense well acted scenes) and in more approachable ways (when they sing). At the same time it also has a sense of fun and humour to the program.

Now if I look at this as a trained counsellor (which I am) I find I want to respond to what you say here:

    Quote:
I have to admit feeling deeply disillusioned with this depiction of 'realistic' characters. I feel often when they're presented to me that they are laden with vastly more negative traits and positive and this is somehow a balanced, realistic portrayal of characters, replete with psychology and modern, adult realised characters.
I personally think that the characters that are put accross in some of these extreme situations (such as Children of Earch) are quite realistic. You've also got to remember that the point of programs like that is portray the character first and the situation second. When you compare them to media such as Star Wars or Superman the focus is different, these aren't trying to portray the story/situation first and the characters second.

In some ways programs like Torchwood has more in relation with Friends than it would to Star Wars/Superman. It may be a weird analogy but looking at the characters in Friends they are, although slightly exagerated, having realistic reactions to more 'general life' situations (e.g. the Ross/Rachel relationship) while Torchwood has realistic reactions to exagerated circumstances.

Now I am going to stop there as I am getting slightly lost in my own thought process!!
  10. Short Answer - No

Long Answer - No because the way that a Corruptor (or other Villain AT) gains access to blue side is by either starting as Praetorian and then choosing Paragon City when they leave at level 20, or by running tip missions to get the appropriate morality mission which will change your alignment. Both of these require the Going Rogue expansion.

NOTE - you can still get tip missions without GR but you do not get the morality missios which changes your alignment.

2/3 of that ignores ED caps. So basically, a 30% global recharge bonus. Yeah, is anyone not going to take this path? I mean, even if you have zero powers that stun or heal, who's gonna pass on the equivalent of 3 purple set bonuses?
My main toon, Grav/Storm, is actually going to be going the Cardiac route for the Core Paragon. Currently the toon has about 61% global recharge (with the final build having approx 88%) so recharge isn't an issue. However endurance is! Particularly with longer fights where I am spamming Tornado and Lightning Storm along with running Hurricane and Snow Storm.

The Range aspect will come in handy for Propel and Wormhole and the Damage Res buff will work with Steamy Mist and Fire Shield.

I was under the impression it is exactly like adding that "Alpha Enhancement" to every single power individually.

The reason I ask for clarification is that the previous point about Healing Flames/Fire Tanks is only relevant to global set bonuses (which I might test later today on Build 2 of my /Fire Brute).

I am under the same impression as Bunny in that the bonus from the Alpha slot is applied to powers in the same way as slotting extra normal enhancements, hence why the ED stuff comes into play. So I would assume that the Healing aspect of that particular Alpha Enhancement will affect Healing Flames because it doesn't work the same way as IO bonuses.

I tried an NA trial account not so long ago and found my connection to be no different to the one for my EU account.

And as Liz posted above a lot of EU players actually report that there is less lag from the US than there is from the Germany based servers.

    So fingers crossed!

  14. 3+ years vet here. I play the game because I enjoy it. I like how everything works from the power choices, costume customisation, leveling up, enemies, missions, etc. I also like how it allows me to solo when I want to (because I like experiencing the missions) or team when I want to.

There are also my friends from my SG which I always enjoy chatting with! I think I wouldn't play nearly as much if it wasn't for them.

Although saying all of that I am taking a small break until I19 hits because I really want inherent Fitness and the lvl 50 content. Also Fallout NV has kind of sucked me in!

I don't 100% agree with this. While my own personal view and build style is build up my defences first not thinking about offensive stuff isn't the way to go. I say this because:

    1) Inherents - the splash taunt created by Gauntlet by actually attacking can actually help you manage agro for a team. And now their is Bruising which is a decent 20% resistance debuff for your Tier 1 attack which helps with the damage output of the Tank and anyone else attacking that target.

    2) Tanker Role - my definition of a Tanker role is more than just take the Aggro, its to protect the team. And a defeated enemy is an enemy is an enemy that won't be bothering a squishy AT!

    3) "Sometimes a good defence is having a good offence" - Not all Tanks are created equal and not everyone does IO builds so need something extra to survive. Also a Tanker is not just a Primary set (I hate threads that try to analyse an AT but just by their Primary), it has a Secondary offensive set which can also provide tools for survival. Whether this be through slows (Ice), to hit debuffs (Dark) or just pure damage (Fire) these all add to a Tankers, and a teams, survival.

So while I agree to build Defence before Offence ignoring Offence is the wrong way to go and is ignoring half the potential of the tank and is just as bad as "Pure Healer" defenders!
  16. My lvl 50 Fire/Fire/Fire tank doesn't really have one. He's more of a scranker and basicly tries to kill things faster than they get him. I also never count the first faceplant on him as a defeat because of Rise of the Phoenix which I am happy to use

I had a lvl 44 Ice/Stone/Earth tank which I deleted. He wasn't soft capped and was completely terrible against the old radiation blasting Praetorian Clockwork and against Romans. It was painful going up against those.

My lvl 38 Shield/Electric tank (not softcapped) doesn't get on with Arachnos that well but even then I find he is generally the most all round tanker I have that doesn't have any major issues with any enemy group.

My lvl 30 Inv/Fire tank absolutely HATES Circle of Thorns. Most the time I wade through mostly anything without issue but CoT really really hurt him!

Not really - from what I understand the Lost when they finish mutating become Rikti, thats why if you do the Midnighter blue side arc you get Rikti spawning in the missions rather than Lost.

So any high level Lost would actually be Rikti!
  18. Heya

    Thanks for the heads up

Luckily I have been doing this since inherent Fitness was announced - with 60-70 builds to work on I thought I better get in early.

Like you suggest I have just skipped the Fitness pool and any slots I would have spent in it are sitting in Brawl (I think) ready to move over when you brilliant guys get the I19 up and running.

I have also been advising my SG friends to do the same

Thanks again for the heads up and thanks for everyone at the Titan Network for their brilliant work!!

so if this TF will take about 1 hour to do so it will only give about 12-15 merits?
Im kind of on the fence about Temp powers in TFs. I quite like them in the Hero Respec Trial and the hero side Khan TF but thats because they aren't overused.

The thing is the diary said he wanted the aspect of coordination and didn't specifically say that would be down to temp powers. Also it made clear they didn't want to go the route of needing x AT to start.

The thing about coordination is that it can come in many different ways. For example there is some team coordination on the cysts mission of the ITF, do you stay and fight the ambushes or do you leg it! Its happened a number of times where a team has split because, of no fault of anyones, it just hasn't been discussed and coordinated. Some people may be used to speed runs where you would leg it and others may be used to killing all the way through. Another example would be the Hero Respec Trial. There needs to be some sort of coordination about people intercepting the multiple waves and protecting the core. Its not one of the hardest trials out there but I have failed it once or twice because we just couldn't organise ourselves properly. And another example would be in the Khan TF blue side, there needs to be some coordination on how the team deals with the released AVs while fighting Reich.

Anyway, my point is that coordination can come in many different ways. I am kind of hoping it won't involve overuse of temp powers but still will require the team to work together smoothly and have the same plan in mind.
  20. I would love to see Broad Sword Tankers. I have a Broadsword/Shield Scrapper but wish he was a Tanker instead (just can't get into Scrappers).

Although Parry would be overpowered as a direct port why not just lower the base Defence it grants and increase its recharge so it is harder to stack and keep stacked?
  21. Just a bit of self bumb to remind people that I will be running the all Tanker Citadel TF on Union this evening - lets see if we can beat the 1hr 30 that we set on Defiant

Edit - well Union was a bit of a flop unfortunately as after 25-30mins no one was interested in running an all Tanker Citadel. Oh well
  22. I can't speak for everyone but I know I am deliberately not playing my low level toons at the moment and have seen other people on the boards say the same. With I19 coming soon(TM) I am waiting for inherent fitness to come around to make things a bit more enjoyable. I know the endless ambushes in Praetoria will be more managable and fun if you had a bit more endurance to deal with them!

I have been mostly playing my level 50s and IOing them out as well as taking part in the Halloween event with my higher level toons (I love ToTing).

I have about 12 toons sat there at the moment waiting to be played. And me and my SG (see below) do occasionally have Praetoria evenings where we play new lower lvl toons in Praetoria and if we have space other people are welcome to join.

Edit - BTW I am 90% Defiant and 10% Union

When I first started playing around with Electric I didn't even think about putting procs in Jolting Chain but really think it could make the power more useful and more spamable. And the good thing about the Explosive Strike proc is that it is available quite early on at level 10.

Another option I didn't list is the Ragnarok purple Knockdown Proc in the Chain Fences. As CF doesn't stop KB it makes it another useful proc to place in there.

I can't add much beyond what has already been said except I picked up on this part on your playstyle.

Electric Control is very weak in terms of damage output so you may find soloing a bit on the slow side for a while. It helps if you have vet reward powers. I don't want to put you off but just I would point it out. I have an Electric/Kinetic 'troller which I half solo'd/half teamed with so it is possible and will improve once your imps are about.

One thing I found helped was taking Air Superiority (for me I took it instead of Hover as I was taking Fly) as it gets a bonus damage from containment.

Another thing you can do is by pairing it with something that will help boost your damage out put. These are in no particular order of effectiveness:
    * Cold Domination - Sleet has a -resistance aspect, however you don't get it till late
    * Kinetics - You Siphon Power early which helps, plus Fulcrum Shift later on
    * Radiation Emission - You get Accelerate Metabolism nice and early which does contain a damage buff, plus the 'holy trinity' of debuffs will make things easier to take down
    * Sonic Resonance - You get the -resistance power Sonic Siphon from lvl 1, plus Disruption Field (which you can use on your pet) and Liquify later on (two more -resistance powers)
    * Storm Summoning - You get freezing rain earlyish which has a -resistance part, plus you get lightning storm and tornado for extra damage later on.
    * Thermal Radiation - You get Melt Armour but not until the very end, along with Forge for +damage for your pets
    * Trick Arrow - you get Acid Arrow and Disruption Arrow for -resistance and later on Oil Slick Arrow for extra damage (and as Electric causes energy damage it should be easy to light!)

You can also boost your damage output through the use of damage Procs. I did a list for an SG friend of mine about what Procs could be useful for an Electric Controller and remember with chain powers (e.g. Jolting Chain) the proc has a chance to go off on each person hit.

    Electric Fence
    * Devastation - Chance to Hold
    * Trap of the Hunter - Chance of Lethal Damage

    Telsa Cage
    * Devastation - Chance to Hold
    * Lockdown - Chance to Hold
    * Ghost Widow's Embrace - Chance of Psionic Damage
    * Neuronic Shutdown - Chance of Psionic Damage

    Chain Fences
    * Gravitational Anchor - Chance to Hold (lvl 50 only)
    * Trap of the Hunter - Chance of Lethal Damage
    * Positron Blast - Chance of Energy Damage
    * Possibly Energy Manipulator - Chance to Stun

    Jolting Chain
    * Davastation - Chance to Hold
    * Explosive Strike - Chance of Smashing Damage

    Static Field
*Impeded Swiftness - Chance of Smashing Damage

    Synaptic Overload
    * Cocophany - Chance of Energy Damage
    * Malaise's Illusions - Chance of Psionic Damage
