  1. So if i get this right:
My Widow has his attacks slotted for damage (95% after ED), add t4 musculature to that and each attack is around 125%.
Passive bonusses + assault give another 50%
And to top it off, double stacked Follow Up for another +60%

    Which leaves me at:
    400%-100%-235% = ~65% from the cap

    Nice ^^
  2. One of the characters i run the most is my Night Widow. Yesterday i was reading up on some stuff here on the forums, and one of the things that stood out was which hybrid to choose. A lot of people agreed that assault was a good choice, but then something caught my eye. The damage cap.
Epic AT's damage is capped at 400%, but now i'm wondering, what exactly works towards that cap?
Do enhancement values count? And as such, does the global enhancement from the alpha slot count too?
Or is the 400% just the extra bonus you can gain to your attacks?

Sure, i've got a 3rd slot lying around, so why not. But before I do that, please tell me, what constitutes a "melee fort". Because from your (and PleaseRecycle's reply to your) post, i read no additional information. If i were to guess, a melee fort takes the melee attacks from the blood widow pool, and interlaces those with some extra attacks from the fortunata path?

Please, elaborate, and explain why i should roll a melee fort.

Attack chains because in addition to your single target dominate-subdue-gloom, you can make a gappy sorta-chain out of psy scream and psi tornado. The ST chain is easily achieved while the aoe chain is the main area where you stand to gain from high global recharge.

Perma mind link, despite being much harder for forts than for widows, is actually pretty easy to get. You only need recharge just shy of perma-hasten; my fort has 86.25% global recharge before hasten and that makes mind link permanent despite the eight second or so gap in hasten. Here's where I'll note that my fort doesn't have any purples apart from superior dominion and coercive persuasion.

The soft caps are what lead me to believe that purples may not be incredibly optimal for a fort. There isn't just one softcap, there are two. Ideally you should be softcapped without ever using mind link at all and incarnate softcapped with mind link. In addition to being a huge boon in incarnate content, the effect of this is that you then have no need to worry about hitting mind link except in reaction to severe debuffs or danger to teammates. That's great since mind link's ungodly slow animation is the last thing you want to be casting in combat unless you need to.

In spite of all of that, I can see a couple places where purples would be nice: ragnarok instead of a posi's blast set for example, trading the damage proc for better enhancement values. Apocalypse is another great option but I'd put it in either dominate or gloom rather than subdue. Dominate is good because this is the attack that you use when there is a danger so great that you care more about stacking two holds on it as fast as possible than you do about completing an attack chain. Gloom is good because it's your most efficient attack and it also stands to benefit the most from recharge and endurance slotting. The AT set is fantastic in psi tornado and coercive persuasion is a very natural fit for aura of confusion, as the proc explosion ensures that it locks down everything around you for something like eight seconds in addition to the great values and bonuses it provides.

Oh, I also recommend trying to fit in confuse. With just a single slot it gives you utility that's hard to match. Need a ton of control in a pinch? Alternate confuse and dominate on problem targets. Fighting a villain group that contains a powerful minion or lieutenant? Spend those two seconds on impromptu recruitment and breeze through a fight that frankly probably would have been easy anyway because you're a freaking fortunata. It's nice to have to stack with aura as well, though: on a certain Dark Astoria mission you go up against giant blobs of bosses. A tactic that served me well was to drop confuse on four or five bosses before diving in and hitting aura. Bam, four or five confused bosses right out of the gate, and it helps them bunch up as well.
First of all, thanks a lot for your big write-up, it's exactly what i missed in most posts that ask for advice.

Now, for a more in depth answer.
Chains: I know nothing about what makes a good fortunata attack, and which ones i should just skip. Having played a widow from 1-50, i know what constitutes a good melee attack, but the ranged attacks are new to me.

Perma Mind-Link and softcaps: For the build i made, I just wanted to get at the normal softcap, with or without ML, but without needing to resort to set bonusses. And seeing that ML alone gives more than 15% def, I went the perma ML route. I already use (perma)ML on my widow, and i know how irritating the long animation time can be, but i can live with that, especially since it only fires once every 90s. (And i've got it on auto-fire)

As for your points on Total Dom and Confuse, i can swap out either TT:assault or summon widow for confuse, and swap some slots around to get some more procs going.

At the rest, offcourse thanks for replying also, though i'm more interested in why you chose a specific power, than in a total build

Jup, I've checked combat attributes (and i actively monitor damage bonus), and it shows all 3 bonusses.
  6. Lately I've been playing my Night Widow a lot, and i love being able to solo AV's and Pylons (haven't tried a GM yet). I even got to collecting quite a few merits and purples lying around. But when i wanted to find out wether i could slot these purples in my Widow without having to respec i found out that I have no use for purples in my current build. And that's when I decided i wanted a second build, who is a fortunata, and takes advantage of the purples i have collected.

But, my problem is: I've never played a fortunata before, and i have no idea what powers are must-haves and which ones can be skipped.

So now i've cobbled together this build:

    My goals:
    - Perma ML/Hasten
    - Softcapped in normal content
    - More AOE than my Widow.

I'm sure there's a lot of things that can be done different, so any comment is welcome.
  7. Yesterday i managed to upgrade my Hybrid Radial Assault to t3, thanks to some great drops, but each time i upgraded it a tier higher, I kept the passive bonus from the tier below, so now my passive damage bonus is 2.5% (Assault Genome) + 5% (Assault Radial Genome) + 7.5% (Assault Total Radial Graft) = 15% extra damage.
At first I thought it might be a bug because of me equipping T2 and T3 during the same play session, but even after logging off i still keep the T1, T2 and T3 damage bonusses.

Is this working as intended, or is it a bug, and should i only be given the T3 passive +7.5% bonus?
  8. I've seen you do this before, Trillby, but why would HanjiTugaris want mag 22 kb protection?

I'd change one of those 2 karma's into a kismet +acc, and use the other slot somehwere else
  9. Since you haven't posted any enhancements in your build i've got no idea what you're building for. So thus far I can only comment on your power choices and the ammount of slots you've placed in each.

First up: Combat training offensive is considered to be an obsolete power as soon as you've got some accuracy bonusses working for you. Also, if you decide to keep it, 1 slot is more than enough. I'd choose for swapping this power out and putting in Eviscerate (which is the 2nd most powerfull attack a widow can have)

Second: TT: Assault is severely overslotted, the only thing you can enhance is the endurance consumption, so more than 1 slot is overkill.

You might want to look at these threads for some more inspiration: 1, 2 and 3
  10. This is my current Night Widow: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...6&postcount=11 (With Muculature T3, Reactive T3 and Ageless T3 at the moment).

Seeing that you have about the same goals as i had (Perma Hasten/ML, Incarnate softcap), there's a few things that stand out:
-You have too much melee/ranged def, and are just 1% shy of incarnate capped AOE defence. The biggest perpetrator here is Combat Training Defensive, you could slot that with 1 LOTG +rech (or kismet +acc) and still be at the incarnate melee softcap
-Another thing that stands out is that you used a lot of slots on TT: Leadership and Foresight, but have both Maneuvers underslotted, if you put the red fortune sets into Maneuvers you will have better Endurance reduction (especially since foresight doesn't benefit from neither end redux nor recharge)

    As for your questions:
    1. I chose to get Boxing/Tough/Weave on my way to the incarnate softcap. I like having multiple ways of mitigation. If they hit through my defense, i prefer to have the hit hurt a little less. Imho the sliding resists don't kick in early enough and hard enough to warrant passing up the opportunity of more resists
    2. As you can see, I don't have Elude, and to be honest, i've never had it, nor do I miss it while i wail on +3 incarnate enemies. (+3 to my lvlshifted lvl), as far as i know it can be a handy "Oh ****!" button, but i just chew inspirations for that.
As for swapping it out, if you team a lot i would swap it out for TT: Vengeance, if you tend to solo more, i'd choose either Gloom or Assault
    3. Incarnates are as i would choose them myself.
    4. Only if you can find a way to squeeze it in. To really perma hasten you need 110% recharge, but with good slotting of Hasten and usage of Ageless destiny you can probably make do with around 90%. Also, talking about Hasten, the third slot you have in there is totally wasted due to ED, either use 2 50+5 IO's, or 3 30+ IO's
    5. I don't have a ranged attack, and I don't really miss it. It might be handy to have, but most of the time stuff is killed before it can run.

I hope this'll get you a little on the way to the awesomeness that is a Night Widow
  11. On the Defiant event channel most people where sure this was the right info for the current state of the Hybrid Abilities: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Hybrid_Slot_Abilities
  12. With I23 coming out in a few hours, what is everybody gonna slot into their hybrid slot?
I'm in doubt between Assault (and there between Core and Radial) for it's obvious benefit of more damage, and Melee Core for extra survivability in the form of regen and resists.

    So, any opinions?

I don't know if Danaid means natural as in the source of the powers, or as in how they look, but on both points (Widow)Teamwork scores well, no particular intrusive graphics/aura's, and most of the powers can be traced back to rigourous training.

As for kinda late blooming, before lvl 24 you can still have a lot of fun, but you only unlock the full potential when you choose one of the branches.

You're forced to start as a villain, but as soon as you can get tip missions you can switch over. The SoA storyarc isn't that interesting that it captivates you and forces you to stay in the isles.
  14. How about a Night Widow? First 24 lvls before the forced respec can be a bit tedious, but as soon as you can choose the Night Widow tree it becomes a lot more interesting. Also, you can have softcapped defences early on (mine had it at lvl 35, but if you're willing to sarcifice more slots to defence instead of offence you can probably be softcapped somewhere around lvl 30.

The blades have all textures claws characters have available, so there's enough choice in that department. The only non-natural looking power is Mind Link, but you will only be using that once every 90 seconds at most.

It's been some time since I've been fiddling with Mid's, since i lost interest in my MM when they broke the AI once again. But...
With perma hasten / chronoshift (which imo is something every Time Manipulation character should build for) Power boost should be up twice as much as Far Sight.

Also, for time, don't forget about Time's juncture -toHit, which effectively is some extra defence to everything.
  16. I've been playing around with Mid's and with Person34's sample build, and in the Patron Pools i found the power Shatter armor, an attack with huge (smashing) damage and a -20% res for 20 seconds.

So for now i've kinda got this build in mind:

@Linea_Alba, why do you find it baffling that I haven't planned on taking Elude, and what would be the benefit of taking Elude? If i were to take it, I would probably swap out Assault.

Also, any opinions on incarnate powers?
I'm in doubt between Cardiac, Agility or Musculature for Alpha
I'll probably go Ageless for Destiny (but i'm not sure which side of the tree yet, is the extra debuff resistance worth the tradeoff?)
And for interface i'm thinking about Preemptive.

    Thanks in advance!
  17. I like the fact that I can choose when I want to crit, and that I can string 2 critical hits during a build up phase. (BU -> Slash (-> Gloom) -> Placate -> Eviscerate)

But the overall damage increase from crits feels a little lacking compared to the crit damage stalkers can reliably do, or the involuntary but more often occuring scrapper crits. I think both scrapper and stalker crits do 100% extra damage, while SoA crits do 50% extra.

    'Best' MM?

How about demons/time? You will lose a bit of -regen, but it's easy to softcap yourself with powerboosted farsight. And you might be able to make up for that -regen with for instance a degenerative interface.

Also, have you tried making a teleport bind? With that it's pretty straightforward. (Not that inclined to take it on any other characters, but hey, it's a free travel power.)

    -Morgan.
What i dislike most about TP as a travelpower is the endcost combined with the range. Most of the time I run out of endurance half way to the point where i wanna go. (Or if the mission is in IP, about 1/5 of the way).
And while TP is supposed to be the fastest travelpower, the other travelpowers have the benefit that you can just keep them toggled on, most of them don't cost more than your normal end gain.
With unenhanced shadow step you can travel 8 "hops" at the most before you run out of endurance, which is .8mi and costs 13.5 seconds.

When traveling I don't want to feel like the obese guy, running to the donutshop to get his sugarkick, only having to stop and catch his breath every 2 steps. I want to feel like the alien superhero who can teleport vast distances in the blink of an eye.

I don't disagree with more defense on principle, but IMHO (my opinion), I think it's overkill, even for Incarnate trials, as you'll have defense from other sources.
I built this character for (in order of importance) 59% defence (achieved through powers and a few procs), enough recharge for perma Mind Link (though more is better ), Health, regen, endurance and recovery bonusses.
With all accolades it will have 1400 hp and regen 15.5hp/sec.

As for defence from other sources in incarnate trials: absolutely true, and it shouldn't be hard to permanently be around 100% def in trials, but i also want to solo in DA, and for that i do need to be at (or over) 59% def.

But please, do continue this discussion, as i find it very interesting to read, and it shows some ideas I didn't know about yet.

Tough would be nice for some SL resist for when you get hit, but you should be capped defense without weave once ML is permanent: why burn a power, 5 slots, and another endurance toggle?
The reason why i took weave was twofold, I wanted to be at the softcap at lvl 36, and secondly, i want to be at the incarnate softcap at lvl 50. (And as an aside, it's a place to get another 5% recharge from Red Fortune)

I took tough firstly because it's a prerequisite to weave, secondly i think it might help against hard hitting enemies like (for instance) Back Alley Brawler. If he gets one hit in, i'm looking at at most 10% health left, tough can change this to a more comfortable margin.

I mainly did this for the hit points bonuses (+32 all together). I used to use 5x crushing impacts and the guassian BU proc, but the proc's chance of firing is only 5% and I didn't get much milage out of it.
I took a look at the build you suggested, and as it looks like now, I'm gonna respec into that as soon as I hit lvl 50. I like that your build doesn't need agility to hit the incarnate softcap, which frees up my alpha slot for other options than Agility.

Also I like how you took tough, it's a hugely underestimated power on ATs with scaling resists.
Well, seeing the ammount of suggestions you make, it seems like you have at leat a little bit experience with building Widows

    Quote:
-- drop the extra slots in CT: D and just plug in a kismet + accuracy unique in that spot, you'll still be pushing just over 62% melee def with MP toggled on.
To be honest, i don't really get what the benefit of the kismet proc is. 6% accuracy doesn't sound like that much, especially when without even trying you can easily have 30% from random set bonusses
The reason it has 3 LOTG's is for the extra regen and hitpoints.

    Quote:
-- now drop placate (or SS, as I think ninja run can easily replace it) and grab hasten. Add these two slots to that for 3 lvl 50 rech IOs.
I like having SS, so i can effectively be invisible. Also, I don't have ninja run

    Quote:
-- swap the ToD procs for makos, they fire more often (or for gladiator strike procs, same 20% fire rate but smashing instead of lethal dmg).
I chose ToD for the negative damage, i think that's resisted less, especially since the main component of all widow's attacks are lethal already.

    Quote:
-- dropping BU and replacing with followup. Your build should be now running about 5 seconds off of perma-hasten and you'll have almost all the tools for 250-260 dps. The only real problem now is end use, but elude is great for a fast burn (again you cold drop placate or SS for this, but by this time if you've followed my advice both will have be already replaced), or you could go either cardiac (go muscular instead IMO) or ageless (my personal choice).
I actually like having BU and placate, cause that allows me to take out irritating luitenants with 2 attacks (3 including placate), and bring down bosses to a sliver of their health. Also, i had the feeling that i didn't have enough slots lying around to slot up FU like it deserved. (Which set do you propose for using in FU?)

    Quote:
-- get catalysts and purplize those 5 ATIOs.
The only reason the ATO's aren't purple yet is because i was trying to find out if i could get perma mind link at lvl 35. (Answer is yes). As soon as my widow hits 50 i will catalyze those ATO's.

    Quote:
-- get your other passive +hp/+end accolades knocked out ASAP
Good point, will check on their progress soon.

Thanks a lot for your input, I really appreciate it.

Re-distribute those slots into Health and Stamina for 1 basic IO and 1 proc (or appropriate 2-pc set bonuses for a basic and Proc IO in each). QR doesn't need 3 basic IOs in it, either. Use 1 IO and 1 proc, or 2 IOs and proc (or or some combo that allows you to use either 2 or 3 of a set including at least 1 proc). It'll work just as well, and you'll be better rounded and squeeze a little more out of the same number of slots.

Depending on the set bonuses, you have Integration and MoG overslotted as well. If you could pull 3 slots out of those 2 combined, you could mule and extra Kinetic Comabt set into Kick for more S/L Def. Again, that suggestion is made without looking closely at the Doctored Wound and Luck of the Gambler set bonuses you'd lose.
The reason i "overslotted" those powers is to get the 5% recharge bonus from DW, I think that's still cheaper than trying to get the same bonus from (for example) Obliteration.

Also, what procs are you talking about? Miracle, Numina and Performance Shifter?

I would Slot ShadowMeld and MoG something like this... LotG +Rech(50)/Rech Redux IO(50+5)/Rech Redux IO(50+5) for both of them...

Furthermore what Alpha slot are you considering? If you are thinking Spiritual, and you should be....then you will gain a boatload of recharge from that...you could probably lose 1 slot from hasten and still make it perma with T4 Spiritual Core Paragon. Plus some of the set bonuses you are losing would be compensated for by the healing boost from spiritual so your passive regen will benefit as well...
Thanks for this answer, I didn't know accolades and Dull Pain would bring me so close to the health cap, i guess i'll change that around to get some different bonusses.

    As for Alpha, Spiritual indeed.

Also, about the build you posted; That won't do for me, i don't have enough inf to buy the purples you used in that build, i think my bank will be pretty empty after trying to buy the Scrapper ATO set.
  24. About a week ago I decided to start playing my Night Widow again, so I made a new build for him.

Now I just need the experts to take a look at it to see if i have anything drasticly over/underslotted, or if there are any must-have powers that i have not taken...

    My goals:
-Perma Mind Link at lvl 35 (and normal softcap around that same level)
    -Incarnate softcap w/o using purples.

Perma mind link and normal softcap worked out just fine (look at the slot levels to see i only added the steadfast protection at lvl 42 to help with the incarnate softcap)
To get to the incarnate softcap, with Mask Presence suppressed I need Agility Core Revamp, which leaves me with a net end-gain of 1.97 eps. To go Cardiac Core Paragon would change that into 2.13 eps, but leave me with a 4% gap to ranged defence, and AOE def just barely at the I-softcap.

So, any ideas? I don't want to use purples, and no enhancements/recipes that cost more than 30M.

Also, as a nice coïncidence, I add 29% defence to everybody who is near enough when i fire Mind Link, and stays within a 60 radius afterwards
  25. I've cobbled together this build, is it any good?

Tried to work in as much +rech without using purples (except for Superior Scrapper ATO), afterward i went for as much +def and +hp I could find.

This resulted in near perma hasten and dp, shadowmeld up half of the time, leaving IH and MoG as "Oh Crap!"-buttons. (215 and 80 second recharge, respectively)
