Quote:No you are only credited with the time you actually played. It's an reward for staying with the game, not one based on how much you spent.
Thankfully, this is one game that hasn't given in ultimately to greed.
to the OP -
Money CAN NOT buy everything in CoH.
Why not?
It is simply unfair to a subscriber (especially a veteran) if others can buy things in game with real world money that others spent "time" to obtain.
As far as I'm concerned that includes inf, levels, vet rewards, etc.
It should be obvious by now that the DEVs of CoH have taken a great amount of time to thwart the influence of RMT's and others that would exploit/cheat in this game.
There should be no expectation that you would be able to buy vet rewards, inf, or levels in this game - EVER.
If you do manage to purchase these things with real world money, you are doing it through methods that could lead your character/account/you to be banned, canceled, or (in case of a character) deleted. If you don't believe me, check the EULA and Rules of Conduct.
Play to play. Don't bother trying to pay "to be cool".
Go some place else if you want to buy your way to the top. It seems to work pretty well in the real world - good luck out there.
PS
QED - Mr Mister is ignored.

Thanks saves me time.
to the OP ::
Welcome back.
Server merger comes up as a subject all the time. I am adamantly against it.
If you don't like the server you are on, you can play on another one. If you want to move a character, you can do that.
If Justice seems to be a ghost town - then actively running/forming-your-own team there will help reverse the trend and get more players back there. That is don't give up on Justice just yet. Give it a chance by putting your own effort in to make it the kind of server you want to play on rather than screaming "the sky is falling" and running away. -
Nice.
Glad to hear there is a cap.
I'm sorry to hear it is that high.
I have over 100 characters; I don't need to move that much stuff around - in one day.
It seems pretty excessive if you HAVE TO send over 100 e-mails w/items per day to me. There is base storage and that should cover all exchanges on server. I can't see any huge rush to NEED to move hundreds of enhancements across servers daily.
It seems we have found a RMT-Stop-gap-er. It apparently is doing it's job.
I hate to say it for those that are really moving stuff all over the place, but I think that they need to lower the cap quite a bit. If we can only hold 20 - I really think that the cap should be lowered to 50 or so.
The new e-mail system is apparently already being abused.
I am not shocked in the least. -
Coz I would get hurt and/or arrested if I beat up Hellions on the streets and dragged them into the local police station.
-
I've been able to learn to do a lot with bases.
I've seen very cool bases that other people have built.
It would be cool to have new stuff in bases. However, I must admit that I don't think that I have explored everything that I can do with bases.
There are cool tricks that can be done that many might not know about.
I would like to see elemental textures that we could at least add as part of the coloring if not as style parts.
I'm sure there are some base builders that would buy a room strait out of a game map to use as a room in their base (the old Pocket D big Warehouse room with upstairs bar - for example)
I'm not leaning on this stuff now. There is plenty of work to do to get GR finished on time (I'm sure).
Looking forward to the cool new stuff as we get it.
Hey, DEVs!
Great work on the bases as they are now.
I really like them. Thanks! -
Quote:I actually would like to see rezzes do SOMETHING to pets. Not necessarily to resurrect them, but to do SOMETHING. Give me a reason to take them on a Mastermind, at least. It doesn't have to be a good reason. Just a little excuse. I mean, I take Confront and I keep telling myself it's useful for stopping runners, so you can see how little I need.
So you can rez your non-pet, "actual" team mates?
PS: Curses! I thought I had turned this into a "Twilight Howl Rulez" thread! -
Quote:Because no AT with Pets can rez pets. Why can't Mastermind's use rez powers - if they have one - on their own henchman pets?
Instead ATs with pets "re-summon pets" when they fall in battle.
I'm sure you would like to be able to use "Twilight Howl" to suddenly rez a room full of dead mastermind pets, but ... -
I doubt you will have much luck with this, but I will back it.
Not that I will use the free server transfer tokens, but I think that they would be very useful to others.
I started a thread to try to keep the FREE SERVER TRANSFERS FOREVER, but not many forumites (We know that the forumites are just the very tip of the iceberg as far as the CoH player-base goes) seemed interested enough to get a good thread going.
So I hope you have good luck with this. I thought that free server transfers would have been a great thing for community events (It like to see a name lock feature that would hold your name for a day or two at least so you could move to an event and back again. I have character on every server so I really don't intend to move mine around; I do think it would be of great benefit to the game if it happened (in the limited form that it was available before.) -
The Cap is there for a reason.
I'm against any cap increase.
If you are too lazy to figure a way around it, then there is no reason to increase it.
All an influence cap increase would do would be to allow inflation on high price items. There is no reason for it other than sheer greed.
If you are that greedy, find away around it.
The rest of us are fine. 90% of the players will probably never hit the 2 bil cap on a character. -
Quote:Very smooth. Good work.Another nice bonus is to mail yourself an Awaken and a Break Free. Keep 'em there, and claim 'em when you die.
You can also hold 20 things so you can hold 30 enhancements for one of those times when you hit say level 17 and suddenly want to drop level 20 enhances's on your character on the fly.
It's also a great recipe book - something that A LOT of us have been wanting.
I have to say from a multi-server/side alt-oholic point of view, this makes moving gear around between sg or vgs on various servers near effortless and definitely without risk of through-market-interception. -
-
I'll agree with je_saist on some points.
Kin is largely support - like Empathy.
Basically, instead of the "heal meh" that you get when you play an Empathy, you will get "sb meh" when you play a Kin.
And, yes, most Tanks are about rushing in.
As a Kin you are officially a squishy.
Unless you are teaming with a Tank with Taunt that is rushing in and Taunting first, then I wouldn't suggest that you rush AT ALL.
Take on a support roll, keep you team mates buffed first, then make sure to debuff your team mates targets second.
Since your heal is target based, try to keep the front line healed and hopefully they will return the favor by keeping any enemies from getting back to where you are.
To get a really good feel how to play a Kin, I suggest running on a no tanker/no scrapper team. Once you have that down, you will be aces. -
Quote:That's the new trick "back hand" attack. It fakes out the enemies so they don't see the attack coming until it's too late.Specifically with the Nemesis Staff, the animation seems to be turned upside down. That is the staff is pointed toward the ground when it appears and is then swung upward.
Honestly, the first time it went off, I thought it was some kind of crotch-rocket attack because of my view distance. It took a while to figure out what was going on.
So yeah, I've seen this as well. -
I've had no issues since i17 dropped live - other than not being able to trade at WW because it was taken down for repairs.
Honestly, WW was pretty empty on test so it really didn't get put through it's paces - let alone the paces that it would be put through on the live servers - and, yes, I did send petitions/info in regards to this because I thought it wouldn't be getting the traffic that it needed to get for proper testing.
Frankly, as far as WW goes, I thought we might end up losing everything that we had in market slots when i17 went live, so I'm just very happy that that did not happen.
The worst I ever saw it was when the out-of-sync bug went live. That crippled one of my characters on test far before that issue went live and I reported it during beta. It went live and it immediately crippled that character (they were out-of-sync for the game for over 6 months - requiring others to tp them free after every zoning (until the /sync command was released) and sometimes in other circumstances). This didn't just effect that character or just me. It became progressively worse.
This release seems to be a walk-in-the-park compared to that.
(if the forums hadn't been updated and periodically purged, you would have seen me rant quite a bit about that bug until finally it was fixed - first by /sync and then months later by a real fix)
With a huge graphical upgrade it was bound to mean that any players that hadn't updated their graphics drivers for a long time would have issues.
I'm running GeForce FX 5600 and that is hardly state-of-the-art and I was rolling as soon as I logged in to i17 on the live servers.
Apparently, a lot of remodeling went on in Crimorea. If that happened, then sure, depending on where you logged out you could end up in the ground.
I can't tell you how many characters I had that were stuck in the ice the year that the water froze over (I really wish that that would happen at least part of the time every winter though - it was so cool). It was a minor annoyance, but once you are out of it, it is no big deal.
After checking you have the latest drivers for your graphics card (if you aren't running a high-end newer card).
Make sure to verify your files, then shut down your computer, repower up, and then log into the game. A lot of the time that will fix problems.
If not, then log into the game, go into options and tweak your graphics and audio settings, log out, and repeat the steps above.
I'm quite happy with the onward progression of the game. I'm sorry that others have experienced problems that I tried to help fix before release by helping beta test i17 (making chatting on the beta tester channel, /petition, /bug, and posting on the beta forums).
The rough edges will be smoothed over and things will be running as usual soon (tm). -

Quote:I'm running a GeForce FX 5600, and I haven't noticed a notable decrease in frame rate. That being said, I already had my setting turned down quite a bit.My wife's laptop's framerate for City has dropped substantially with the release of Issue 17. It's fairly old now - the graphics card is Nvidia 7000M.
My first thought was drivers - it has the 179.48 drivers at the moment. Is there anything more recent for the 7000M?
Is there anything else that I could try to improve things for her (short of a new laptop)?
The first thing I would do would be to turn FSAA off.
Go into the custom settings and tweak things down. (try lowering particle count first, then tweak down the other things that are least important to you first.) One of the settings (I forget which one) influences how far away you start seeing things in detail (most notably signs); I would imagine that tweaking that down would help quite a bit as the farther out it goes the the more the computer has to render (and scale as you move).
During huge events, I find it best to hide names, sg, ratings, health bars, etc for players and enemies (you can still set stats in the team window and targeting window). This helped me dramatically - I forgot about this during the events on Monday and someone reminded me about it before the events on Tuesday - this made a huge difference. (makes me wish we could store and name a couple of option set-ups so I could quickly toggle to an event set of options for Rikti Raids, Zombie Apocalypses, Banner Events, etc.) -
Quote:Honestly, I have too many great memories of things going on in CoH that I can't pick out a favorite. What is your favourite memory over the last 6 years playing City of Heroes?
I can, however, talk about the one that was most memorable to me.
It was during the first year of CoH.
I'm running my Eng/Eng blaster and I turn the corner and there is a Malta Zeus standing there with all it's Malta Support Units.
Big robot! So cool.
So what do I do?
I blast it of course - before it can blast me!
Well, I was in Steel Canyon and level 12 or so. That was back in the day where high level ambushes would be littered about all over the place.
Of course, the back up units never had a chance to fire at me - it was also still in the days of the one shot - blasted into oblivion by the Zeus before they could even react - yeah, those were the good old days - oh, did I say I was on the way back from the hospital from being jumped by level 15's at the mission door?
Man, that was a so cool! That robot was huge!
It was a long time waiting for vengeance against those guys, but you better believe I try to wear down some Titans and let them merge into a Zeus as often as I can pull it off.
And then I finally saw the Cronos Titan...ah, but that's another story...
And then ran the Hess Taskforce (or was it the other way around) ... that's another story too...
And, finally, the Impervious TF...(where's Mazinger Z when you need him?)
Gotta love giant robots....
Did I say that there was too many cool things to just pick out one favorite memory? -
This again?
It's not like it is unexpected - nor should my reply.
Quote:There is a price to pay for being evil.Just that, discuss....
What other aspects of GR and the lengthy cool down for side switching could occur?
1) The BM is all ready a comparative dust bowl.
These posts are always about the "evil" side getting shafted. So here we go again.
Once more to explain why evil shouldn't benefit from the hard work of heroes.
Quote:2) You won't be able to take your inf over to the robust side so once there you'll have to marketeer to earn influence or have one of your other toons email it too you.
By "robust side" you mean to take away the fact that Influence is for Heroes. It isn't Red and Blue. It's Hero and Villain. Good and Evil.
Yes, it pays to be "good". At least here in our comicbook game world.
I'm not sure why there is any difficulty involved with e-mailing Influence to a character that has decided to join the heroes and the "strait and narrow path". You can send your self e-mail and if you have a Hero they can open up an e-mail with Influence in it. No problem there.
Quote:3) Once you are in the robust market area what is the real draw to returning to the other side?
There are plenty of other games without Good and Evil as definite alighments. If it is really so hard for you to deal with the fact that this game is about Good and Evil (and soon a gray area separate from the two) then maybe one of those other games would be more desirable for you.
The "draw" to return to the "path of darkness" is to be a villain. I would figure that is why some players are playing villains rather than playing heroes. Their incentive would be to return to playing a "dastardly evil" character rather than a "goody-two-shoes" hero.
I'm not trying to pick on you. I'm being perfectly serious.
Super hero comics are NOT about neutrality. Sometimes villains switch sides and sometimes heroes "go rogue", but you can almost always tell when it is intended to for a character to be Good or Evil at any given point - that is pretty much the basis of the comic book hero genre.
I really don't know why you expect villains to be rewarded for work done by heroes in a comic book super hero game - and that is what anyone that wants to see the markets merged - or implying that they should be - is asking for.
Quote:With all this in mind, what is the likelyhood that GR could cause a complete crash of the Black Market?
If this is the case, what are the chances that the devs may actually step in and fix or merge the markets?
It isn't even clear if you can get villain contacts to run missions in the Isles if you are a hero going rogue. If you are going Rogue and running "evil" missions - I'm assuming you won't be earning Infamy until you flip that corner and become a villain; I'm assuming that you won't earn Influence for running "evil" missions either if you are still a hero.
I certainly hope the DEVs just leave it alone. That would be the reasonable thing to do in this genre. Yes, this is a Superhero Genre game. If you don't like the polarity then find a game where there the sides really are only distinguished by the color of uniform that they wear - aka "Red and Blue" (though most of those games the side that you are on is Blue and the enemy is always red - or, at least, that has been my experience)
Those that pick the path of Evil deserve their just rewards - which by your guesses will be a big pile of nothing! Yeah! The Villains loose. Boo villains! Boo!
Quote:The most market tear question worthy of all is, would it be worth our effort to attempt to exploit the potential of crashing the BM to force a needed repair?
Thoughts? Comments?
The "repair" isn't needed.
Go for it. Crash the villain markets and soak up all the glory of your villainy.
Evil is as evil does. And you deserve what you get if you relieve yourself in your own swimming pool.
Face it. You are villains.
Heroes worked to fill the hero market full of stuff.
If the villains want a market full of more stuff then they have to work for it.
Why should evil get rewarded for the things that Heroes do?
They shouldn't.
I think we have been over this time and time again.
If it is so bad to be villain, the maybe you should stop being evil and become a hero.
I'm certainly not going to give up trying to be a good person in real life simply because it seems that those that lie, cheat, and steal on various levels seemed to be getting ahead in this world.
I certainly hope I can come to a comic book game and expect to see that the lines are drawn and I can stand tall for my heroic actions and not see my hard work go to the benefits of evil (characters).
Of course, I'm still for stripping characters of all enhancements (and everything else) and starting them back of at "square 1" if they go "darkside" or "finally see the light".
There should be a massive price to pay for switching sides in a game that is THE game about the Superhero Genre.
Don't come crying to me if your Mastermind becomes a Defender when they finally become a hero. -
Quote:I'll back the Fitness Pool. What's more Natural than to be fit?We have Swift and Hurdle, representing high levels of athletic training.
I have a character that got along fairly well with just the Fitness pool until the GvE jump pack came along (makes going vertical easier) and the various teleports, fight, and jump packs when they came out.
I guess the OP is going for Super Strength or Martial Arts with Willpower (or possibly Regen if the SFX colors were turned off). I don't know any other sets that would make a character look like they were completely Natural and not using some kind of devices (that includes axes, swords, rifles, pistols, etc.) or powers (ice, fire, electricity, darkness, etc.)
If this is the case than Fitness definitely fits in with those power sets.
Does this mean that the OP will refuse tps to missions?
I guess they are out of luck on refusing "mystic fortune" at this point. -
Yahoo!
Happy Birthday!
I love this game. I'm so glad that it is still going strong.
Thanks to the DEVs for all the development work.
And thanks to all the friendly and helpful players out there that make this game so fun to play and so welcoming to new players.
And special thanks to NCSoft (and the DEVs if they were part of this decision) for not giving into greed and offering in-game items for real world cash!
As they say - This Game Rocks! -
Quote:I guess it's a matter of asking yourself why I (and others) asked you those (same) questions.@ The_Alt_oholic
I think I already responded to just about all your comments in other postings in this thread. Numbers where asked, links where given with numbers. As a matter of fact some of those people came by and even responded in this thread with more numbers. But unfortunately, now that someone came across to give those numbers. Now they are no good. Skewed. Made up. Modified to fit the posters own needs.
Though no one has jumped in to say with some numbers or proof how AR Device exceeds other Blaster sets. They tell you how they are good, but no numbers. Funny isn't it one side produces to show how AR Device is lacking when in comparison to other Blaster sets. But its not good enough now. But on the other hand we have to sit here and be told how we dont understand the set. that we need to jump around after attacking and try to drop a mine during a fight, that mind you a power that can be interrupted and the fight is pretty much is over seconds after it started, So you can be spinning your wheels just trying to drop a trip mine for a fight is over after you placed it and further more the team has already moved on and is fighting the next spawn.
But yea I know that has NEVER happen to anyone.
I don't need to dig through to find those answers because those questions were for you. I didn't need the answers.
I enjoy playing AR/Dev blasters when I play them. I don't find any deficiency when I play them. I think they are fun to play. I'm not mini-maxing or exploiting. I'm playing the game to have fun. I'm not scared to play on the servers (I do NOT like to team with exploiters so some server(s) are just no fun for me because they have just become rotten-with-exploiters and isolationists as far as I'm concerned).
If you think some other set is so good, then just don't worry about playing AR/Dev blasters any more and play something else.
We all know that the power-sets aren't balanced. We all should know by know that the archetypes are lack balance (compared to one another) even worse than the variation of balance of power sets within an archetype.
I don't need to jump in with numbers. You're the one "claiming" numbers. Generate them.
I could care-less about the numbers. I'm here to have fun and number-crunching and mini-maxing isn't part of my fun-equation any more. I have better things to do and playing with an AR/Dev blaster is one of them.
I don't have a problem with knockback. I enjoy it.
So far - I've never been kicked from a team for using knockback. (I have a level 50 Eng/Eng blaster - they do way more knockback than AR/Devs do)
However, I don't take the grenade-launcher power or bean-bag for AR either.
Of course, I'm not into farming or lug-nut tank-chasing. I like to play with a little finesse, tactics, and style which is often a drag on the mini-max, dps, bull-in-the-china-shop players. To each their own.
I don't need number to prove to me that playing a AR/Dev blaster is fun.
It sort of already is like DP as it does different damage types already.
AR/Devs are more of a finesse blaster. It takes time and strategy to use them to their potential and they can control the area of battle a lot more than other blaster set combos. No other blaster secondary set give you invisibility or smoke grenades.
The Targeting Drone is a toggle that constantly buffs your ACC - and, if you really want Build-up, you could slot a Gaussian Fire-Control :: Chance for Build-up in it.
If you can't keep up with the team, then try to get ahead of it and set up for the next group while they are fighting the first one. (If you can't figure out how to do this, it isn't worth my time trying to explain it to you.)
Your tactics are lacking. You can adapt. ... or maybe not ... it seems you have made that point clear.
No reason trying to convince you otherwise.
Have fun hating your AR/Dev blaster.
I'll spend my time enjoying mine (Trip and Timer). -
Quote:huh.I agree, I see no reason why there should be any limit to number of characters per server, especially when we're paying for extra slots. If I ever reach the maximum number of characters per server, (I'm a ways from it thus far) I'm not going to be buying more slots because there is no way I'm going to start characters on an entirely different server.
So 200 slots on one server would be okay with you?
And money rule$?
If you have all that phat loot, get a second account and you can buy and fill up 36 more character slots on that server as well.
Heck, buy another computer and team with yourself. Buy 7 more accounts and fill up all those 36 character slots - and 7 more computers and make a full team with just yourself.
Are you really that scared of the other servers?
You are scared of them, aren't you?
Xenophobe.
I bet you are scared of chatting on channels except for supergroup, team, tells, and private global channels as well.
[Getting under your skin? Wake up call!]
Seriously, I somehow think it would be cheaper just to transfer characters that you aren't going to play much to other servers, make your new characters on your "home" server, and then transfer characters around if you want to play them on your "home" server.
Will you loose your name? Maybe.
With i17 you will be able to e-mail inf and items to yourself - globally - which means that any characters that you have "parked" on another server, can still craft and send stuff back to your characters on your home server.
Somehow I see extra slots on one server to be a boon for exploiters.
They definitely would be for the xenophobic.
There is life on the other servers - and, apparently, you have plenty of free slots on all of the other ones - you're just too scared to use them ... or is it time to buck up and be a hero?
Bust outta that shell. -
I think they are referring to the AE.
It appears they have a disconnect from playing the "the actual game" (aka "anything but AE missions") - none of which has taken nerfs to xp or drops.
I think what they meant to say was ::
"Me AE baby. Mean DEVs am make me cry. Why am DEVs so mean!?"
There is a world outside of the AE. HELLO! You can even leave Atlas! *gasp*
Really. You won't fall of the edge of the game map if you try to leave the AE building or Atlas!!!
I think the sad part of the original post is that there are probably far more players that are/will be glad about the changes to the AE (or don't care at all) than those that are going to be getting upset that their exploit-train has been derailed again.
Seriously, I don't know what the exploiters have to whine about. They will have a new way to exploit the changes probably the day that i17 drops.
Oh, wait...I guess they will have to take time to figure out their new exploits -
[satire]
I'm so sad for them.
[/satire]
I have no compassion for the players that play only to exploit the game.
I don't want to team with them and I would really prefer that they found another game to abuse.
Be a hero. Go fight some crime. -
