Quote:I've been here the last two and a half years (and more) and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen any significant issues of random flaky enemies running whether I'm fighting solo or in a group, duo up to 8 players, melee(taunter or non-taunter), ranged or debuffer.I have to say after having been gone for a while that I am NOT comforted by the fact that this thread, and thus the problem, continues TWO AND A HALF YEARS LATER.
In fact, the only time I ever really see enemies run more than just once in a while are soloing on my DEF-based characters or my Illusion Controller who relies heavily on Phantom Army. Both of those instances involve an enemy who cannot hit its target which is a trigger for them to flee.
Sometimes my Broadsword Scrapper gets a Built-up Headsplitter cone lined up just right that one-shots 2 or 3 targets and the others say "Oh crap!" and hightail it, but actually, I love it when that happens. It's good to be feared. -
I went with a Fire/Fire/Pyre Brute for my fire farmer. I've got him outfitted with some hotkeys that combine ANY set of 3 small or medium inspirations into Damage inspirations and then one to pop any Damage inspiration each time it's pressed and I keep pressing those all the time.
The extra damage from Fury, Fiery Embrace, Build Up and constantly popping damage inspirtations (I almost always have 3+ red insps active) greatly increases damage and thus killing speed. He's almost never under 200% Damage Bonus after the first group (which boosts Fury up to about 70% really quickly) and usually hovers around 280-300%. My record was once he got up to 563% Damage Bonus all by himself.
Doing the Demon Farm is fairly easy at +3 x6 right now. On a Ticket farm, I run +3 x7. I'm waiting to go to +4 x8 until I can get some more IO Set Defense Bonuses slotted. His current Defenses are only about 13% right now. It can get a little hairy that low when fighting a double-boss group.
One Question: What Alpha Slot would all of you recommended? I'm starting out with the Cardiac Slot since with all the AE attacks this character just burns through endurance so fast even Consume can't keep up. With Cardiac Endurance/Resist, I still get some times where End is really low and Consume hasn't quite recharged yet. -
Quote:For as many posts about people hating KB and people hating when other people use KB, in my 7 years of playing COH I have rarely had anyone ever complain about my Energy Blaster's Knockback and he has two sets of Kinetic Crash fully slotted (Energy Torrent and Power Push). It's maybe been 3 or 4 times tops. But the OP should keep in mind that using Kinetic Crash will increase the KB mag of attacks, and will very likely turn KD powers into KB. Okay if you like that sort of thing, but not everyone does. Personally, I hate it.
As a reference, if you get 6+ points of KB protection on a squishy, you'll be protected from about 98% of enemy Knockback that you're likely to run into. If you only have 4 points of KB protection, then it drops to about 70-75% which is still nice, but there's a noticeable difference. -
Quote:How would you know that?Actually, I recently re-upped my sub, NCSoft was located in Texas this time, and then I got an extra, fraudulent, charge for WoW (which I haven't played in years) on an account also in Texas... Said WoW account was, apparently, insta-banned for gold-selling spam.

If you want a lower-tech method of checking badges, using in-game, built-in functions, you can check out the "In-Game Badge Reporter Tool" thread in my signature.
It's a menu that looks just like the emote menu on your chatbar or the menus you get when right clicking an NPC, object or character.
It uses the undocumented POPMENU command with a custom built MNU menu file containing LOCKED OPTION functions linked to Badges so that the badges you have show up in highlighted text and the ones you don't have are darker text.
In the thread is my original really low-tech BadgeReporter.mnu and also MultipleGirls incredible re-creation using a Badge information database with complete details and direction on how to get every badge. She also has a great Badge Hunting custom "Help" file (for use with the /HELP command) that she figured out how to make that even contains exploration badge location pictures.
All accessible inside the game itself with no need for external programs or websites once you put the plain-text menu or help files in the right place. -
I just bought one on a different character a few minutes ago and it does disappear from the list once you buy it.
-
I'm fairly certain if you buy a Vanguard item, it completely disappears from the list. That's what happens to the costume options anyway.
-
I would suggest using a regular human head with the older non-Animal-Pack Cat(?) face in white, add the dark eyes pattern in black and add the rounded ears Head Detail. Not perfect, but you can get close.
I also remember seeing someone use a hood in some way once to simulate a large panda head. Of course the face didn't match up, but that was a long time ago and it actually looked pretty close from the back or side. -
Quote:It's definitely broken inside the original post's code block and needs to be fixed.I think the forums broke this code. When I copy/pasted this into a .mnu and loaded it, then tried it out, it only gets to the "Prompt Team Teleport" part and breaks. It also broke all the default keybinds so I couldn't even move my characters.
...
Don't know if it was the forums or when you copied from notepad you had Word Wrap enabled?
Anyway, after fixing those extra line breaks it seems to work.
Oh and edit to add, now that it works, it's awesome. Thanks! -
Quote:There shouldn't be any restrictions on the number of Hotkeys. I've used more than 9 beforeI dug through the threads, but it's late and I couldn't find an answer to this question (I probably just scanned right by it):
Are hotkeys in menus restricted to the first 9 lines in the menu?
I have 14 lines, including 2 titles and a divider, in a menu and with that the last 4 lines' hotkeys don't function. The commands work if I select them with a mouse, so that isn't it. And if I comment out the divider and a title one more starts working. If I comment out the other title yet another starts working.
Here's the code, just in case I'm missing something. I'm trying to add use commands to an old inspiration combination popmenu without resorting to a second tier of submenus and another keystroke. The last six lines in each submenu are the new ones (NOTE: The copy-and-paste messed with some tabs, but it looks to have come across fine otherwise.)
How much have you customized from the old menu? Maybe it's something you put in causing troubles? I'm not sure by any means if it will help, but you might try one of these things:
- Removing the comments from inside the menu structure
- Remove empty blank lines
- Remove the triple periods ("...") from the titles
- Change the beginning header from:
// Inspiration Combination and Use Popmenu
Menu Inspirations- To:
Of course there's also the chance that a recent update made changes to the parsing of popmenus, intentionally or otherwise...// Inspiration Combination and Use Popmenu
//
Menu Inspirations

Quote:It's inevitable that a cartoon empire like the Timmverse is going to cause other people to think that that is what similar cartoons HAVE to look like in order to be successful, but I'm glad that they didn't completely give in to the angular blockiness of the usual anTIMMation look. The Avengers are given a more human look while still having the same powerful feel of the typical "triangular-torsoed, gorilla body" that characters of the Batman, Superman and JL shows had in the Timmverse. But the animation seemed cool. I just love how influential Batman TAS and JLU were, everyone is trying to be like them now.
One thing I really like about the character design is that I can definitely see a lot of Kirbyesque touches to the character designs and scenery, especially in the Thor intro episode. It's a nice way to distinguish the character as not just Timmverse copies.
I'm only a few episodes in but I hope they'll keep the good voice actors coming. I recognized Jeffrey (Dr. Herbert "Re-Animator" West) Combs as the Leader and Clancy (Highlander's "Kurgan", DCAU's "Lex Luthor" and SpongeBob's "Mr. Krabs") Brown as Odin so far and hopefully there's more to come since it seems like they're actually interested in good voice acting in this series. -
Quote:[sarcasm]Yeah, because our first example of this with Change Ammo in Dual Pistols is totally wonderful.[/sarcasm]...Maybe if you earn the different effects you have them to assign to each power? That seems like something that would be very fun, very practical and would allow for a lot of room to do more min-maxing etc.

Quote:Thanks for noticing! I cracked up when I first saw it and calculated how many years it was (11 years!) so I figured I'd show it off. This is slightly off-topic but I just noticed the pic you have in your sig line. For your sake I hope the guy who's always wanted to name their character CyberRadical never sees it. It's impressive that you've managed to have a character made in this game roughly 4 years longer than the game's actually existed.
Since that "CyberRadical" has been offline so long, the name is open for use on the server so no one is missing out. I use the name elsewhere but that particular one is on a server I stopped playing on rather soon after launch.
I wonder what kind of Day Job bonus 11 years offline would provide... -
What I have done for other characters who want to Perma something else besides Hasten is have Hasten on Auto and I changed my Tab key to attempt to activate the other power as well as target the nearest enemy.
It seems to work fine but I've never tried it with Domination. The other characters I used this for didn't have the Crash of Domination running out to contend with so it might need extra attention. -
Okay, turns out the problem was a bug in Mids with certain powers (like Dominator - Ice Mastery's Sleet) that they fixed with in version 1.91 (19.11 (30/Dec/2010)) so it won't load the build unless you have the latest database.

Something funky happened to my data link so here's another attempt at posting my build:

Quote:I've done this on three characters now, at least one Villain and one Praetorian. Didn't do one spec of damage to Lusca, just waited nearby until it got defeated and I got the badge.Devilfish is a "thank-you for watching" badge. Anyone in the vicinity of the defeat of the Luscan head gets the badge, you don't even need to do 10% or 20% damage.
They made it this way due to the way that Lusca keeps "swimming" away. The mechanics of it are that Lusca actually despawns when a tentacle is defeated and a "new" Lusca who is -1 Tentacle to the previous one spawns somewhere else. If they only awarded it based on damage done, they'd end up with characters doing damage to all the tentacles but then not damaging the head and then not getting the badge even after doing over 7/8th damage to the monster.
I'm pretty sure I had one character who missed out on the badge because he did the entire fight for all the tentacles and the head but ended up taking a hospital trip and not being in range when the head was finally defeated. -
Quote:Not true.If you're no higher than level 29, one of the missions of Vincent Ross' arc also grants the badge, but apparently only if you choose to free the demon Botis.
I did indeed receive "Entrusted With The Secret" for doing Vincent Ross's arc and I chose to tell Botis to get stuffed and beat his skanky demon butt. The "Time Travel" part of that mission comes before the choice to defeat him or not.
I didn't even know it would give the badge when I did it so I was pleasantly surprised to receive the Ouro Portal on my level 21-ish Widow. -
One thing to remember about the Praetorian Defeat Badges is that it's not "Defeat 100 Enemies", it's "Defeat 100 Points worth of Enemies". Minions are 1 point, Lieutenants are 2 points, bosses are 5 points. These badges can be acquired ridiculously fast if you organize a team of badge hunter characters to go to Praetoria to get them because you'll get larger spawns and more LTs and Bosses too.
I've always had good luck finding Seers around the outskirts of Synapse's Tower in Neutropolis and then in the IC Underground. I think it's IC anyway. Even while solo, if I just attack every Seer I see when I'm running around getting explore badges, once I make it to Neutropolis, I'm only about 25 points of Seers away from the badge. -
Congrats to the OP on all the badges!!! Not sure how far I am away, I never kept that close of tabs on this but it shouldn't be much more than a month.
It looks like I'm on the opposite side of most people here. I always check each update/issue hoping that they'll add a couple new day jobs to each side and get continuously disappointed.
One Day Job that I always wanted them to add would be "Sportsman" or something like that. So far though, the only place that I can see to get that are the Basketball courts in various zones of Paragon City.
Another obvious one would be related to the sewer system.
Not sure what could be done with Villain side though to balance these two out though... Something with the Cage Consortium and Mining in Sharkhead and maybe something with the "Tent Towns" in various zones (outside the wall in Mercy Island for example)? -
Quote:In terms of what Hero/Villain "side" a Rogue is on, they are still considered villains. The Valentine Event comes to mind. Before GR, that's the only place it was available for Heroes.
On a side note, I'm curious about something now. If a Rogue toon goes into a Hero's CoT mission (in Paragon City) first, will it spawn the "Villain CoT" the same way it does in PocketD during the Valentine Event? Is this badge now available in the "off-season" to people who don't have GR?
Likely that wouldn't matter for the old Paragon City COT missions since the mission would have had to have been designed to contain both Hero-side COT and Villain-side COT.
I've been wrong plenty of times before though so it may be worthwhile to check it out. -
I've had concept around that I've wanted to play for a long time but never found a good fit until now. A Mind/Energy Dom finally seems like the best choice.
As a relatively new Mids freak, and after finally figuring out the "Rule of 5" for set bonuses, I think I've developed a good level 50 (non-purple) PermaDomination, PermaHasten build but I need some advice for what to do while growing up as a Mind Energy Dominator. So much of the level 50 build is focused on PermaDomination/Hasten that I don't think it will be as effective as it could be while leveling and with using mostly just plain non-set IOs or Frankenslotted lesser sets so odds are I'll be needing an entirely different build for her early career.
As an Energy Blaster, I've come to know the joy that is Power Push for use against Bosses, so even though that won't be in my PermaDom build, it's definitely going in the early build as a good form of Boss Soft Control. It'll be even better than my Blaster's version since the accuracy and damage are so much higher! The first few levels are already a good sign as having both Mesmerize and Dominate at early levels seem to make a solo three-spawn almost trivial.
Any other tips or suggestions would be greatly welcomed to help make getting to level 50 as enjoyable as it looks like being level 50 is going to be!
For the level 50 build, I'm not sure what Epic Pool to take but I'm leaning towards Ice Mastery since it seems to help fill a few holes and provides some more effectiveness for use in large teams besides just controls. I'm also kind of stuck for an Alpha Slot choice. None of the secondary and tertiary bonuses really synergizes with the primary for use with Mind/Energy so I'm probably just going to aim for the 45% Damage bonuses from Musculature. Any other thoughts there? -
So, is Mids and even the In-Game Info screen wrong when it lists Whirling Hands (and all the other Dominator PBAOEs) as having a 15' radius then? It wouldn't be the first or last time that the description of a power was not corrected to match it's actual effectiveness. That's twice the diameter of a normal "melee" PBAOE if 15' is correct. Not that I'd use it for the Confuse, but you can hit an awful lot of enemies (max 10) in a 15' PBAOE Radius and make this a worthwhile power.
-
My nomination would have to be a Psychic/Mental(Electrical APP) Blaster. First level 50 character I ever deleted. On paper, it seems like it should work well. Some nice AE attacks, Aim+Build Up, some control, Endurance recovery, etc. but it just never seemed to gel for me.
This combination was painful to solo and I often felt like a leech on teams but I kept expecting things to get better but they never did so at 50, I used all the respecs I had to unload as many IO sets as possible and deleted. Haven't regretted it at all. -
Quote:All this raving inspired me to make my first Dominator too, a Mind/Energy called PsiRave!Dang all this raving is making we want to play my doms again.
It was supposed to be just a throw-away test character but I found that I liked the multicolorful bright blinky lights all flashing around everything.
