Karma -kb question

Hello I received this recipe and after making it to sell I am wondering if I should keep it instead but I do not know what - 4 kb does. I am a blaster so it definitely would help if it means I cant get knocked back. Can someone please explain it to me.

It provides four points of knockback protection to your character.

The way knockback protection works is that when you are hit by an attack that does knockback (or knockdown) the effectiveness of the attack is reduced by four "points".

Most NPCs that have knockback attacks have an effectiveness that is less than four points so it does prevent you from getting knocked back a lot of the time but it will not prevent all knockback in the game (for example Fake Nemesis deal about 12 points of knockback IIRC).

In my opinion a knockback protection IO is one of the most useful things a squishy character (such as a blaster) can slot.

Keep it.

Slot it.

Love it.

I buy one of these as a ritual now whenever my blasters hit level 22.

If you need a mule for it I usually pick Stealth.

Just bought one last night for 15 million. Well worth the price for the next 30 levels to be on my feet.

Edited to add: Yes, it will work always, not just when the power it's slotted in is active.

Thank you for the advice I will keep it. Are these stackable with steadfast -kb ?

I have the kinetic crash set on my PB with 3 pts of -kb. It stops almost everything. Four points is even better.

Yep. They're even stackable with more of themselves (as are the Steadfast Protection ones).

But the OP should keep in mind that using Kinetic Crash will increase the KB mag of attacks, and will very likely turn KD powers into KB. Okay if you like that sort of thing, but not everyone does. Personally, I hate it.

Except when you exemp more than 3 levels below the level of the IO. It's a global IO so it works like a set bonus

I was comparing the -KB bonuses not saying go out and fill every power posible with kinetic crash.... though the set does have some nifty bonuses.

+3% run speed
+2.5% Smash Resist
-3 pts KB
+6% regin
+7.5% Global Recharge

Almost worth 6 slotting gale and never using it, eh?

Seriously aside from the +KB to that power which some people like some dont so we'll leave that aside, it is a good set for bonuses.

Oh, I'm not questioning that the bonuses are good, they are. But I thought the OP should know that if he/she slots it in a KD attack it will turn the KD into KB. An important caveat IMO, since a lot of players don't like KB.

In addition, KB sets won't fully slot an attack for damage. In some cases that won't be a problem, but in general Kinetic Combat is not something I would recommend slotting without explaining its limitations.

I have a few MA scrappers with Crane Kick 6-slotted with Kinetic Crash. Makes a fantastic opening/finishing move on a mob, and has rather decent damage slotting for a KB set (around 70%). Definitely provides the cheesy kung-fu movie style to defeat a guy with a kick that sends him flying into a different zip code.

Which is why I like the PvP sets that give 3 points of KB. Some are even affordable. As in, less expensive than rare sets in the same category.

For as many posts about people hating KB and people hating when other people use KB, in my 7 years of playing COH I have rarely had anyone ever complain about my Energy Blaster's Knockback and he has two sets of Kinetic Crash fully slotted (Energy Torrent and Power Push). It's maybe been 3 or 4 times tops.

As a reference, if you get 6+ points of KB protection on a squishy, you'll be protected from about 98% of enemy Knockback that you're likely to run into. If you only have 4 points of KB protection, then it drops to about 70-75% which is still nice, but there's a noticeable difference.
