  1. There are actually accounts that have had all characters wiped. I have such an account.

It was my Beta account and is now a Free account.

All of my Beta characters were wiped. I'd have been surprised if they were still there.
  2. Click either the Official Site tab or the City of Heroes link in the lower right of this page. Or go to www.cityofheroes.com

Once the page loads, click the Continue to cityofheroes.com link in the upper right of the page.

EDIT: Three nearly identical responses in less than a minute. Must be a rather obvious thing to do.

    Forum Avatars?

Are you trying to use a file from your computer as your avatar or is it hosted on a publicly available site such as PhotoBucket, Flickr, ImageShack, etc?

Were you expecting official technical/QA support here in this forum?

If you were, you may want to look at the heading on this forum section.

Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs Discuss gameplay / technical issues or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.
As an alternative to email, you can also file a support ticket at https://support.cityofheroes.com/

If you'd like assistance from the technically minded players here, please follow the instructions in Hyperstrike's [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums

I have personally fallen foul of inconsistent moderation and it seems to me that the basic policy seems to be "seat of pants/gut instinct" rather than consistency. Some moderators use a "broad brush" while others use a scalpel. This isn't a failure of individuals, but it does seem to be a failure of policy and a more consistent application of policy would be welcome
My point was that the potential issue you were pointing out has been in the rules for quite a while.

Also, as to the last paragraph, I think it is more a failure of individuals as well as policy. There is inconsistency in how the rules are enforced by the same individuals. That's been the heart of my arguments anytime there are proposed rule changes.

I'm pretty sure a lot of EU forumites will agree with me when I say we had to make a lot of noise to get heard and our actions (mine especially) could have easily been considered to fall foul of this rule. I will very gladly point out that to my knowledge nobody was ever warned that we were it does concern me that an overly zealous mod could have snipped those voices very succinctly when we were raising a legitimate point and were not getting much redname feedback.

It does strike me that it's potentially a gagging clause - but I'll happily add the caveat that I've no experience of it being used that way.

    Something to think about maybe?
You may want to read the current Message Forum Rules and Guidelines. The ones posted by theOcho in August 2010. That very same section about lobbying is in the existing rules. It's been in the forum rules for quite a long time. I believe it was in the rules back before we went to the vBulletin forums.

Much of what is in the proposed Updated Forum Rules is simply an update. A rewording or re-organization of the various points at times, but mostly just updating a tiny bit.

If you look at the current version of the forum rules and compare it side-by-side with the proposed updates, you'll see that not much has changed. If you could go back and look at the previous forum rules as they were posted over the past several years, you'd find that there's not much new under the sun.

As to whether the Updated Forum Rules will finally have consistent moderation, unlike what we have now and have pretty much always had, that is the real question.

As someone who works in the edumacation system here in Texas, I have to agree with you.

Reading comprehensions skills are also deplorable, especially since most of the Reading Comprehension problems I have are with Reading/English teachers.

Logic fail problems mostly occur with the Math teachers.

If you think this is a joking post, you'd be wrong.

For once, I'm absolutely serious with one of my posts.

Well said. I'm glad I waited until after you'd posted before trying to say anything.

This pretty much covers my thoughts. While I wish there was a truly viable solo path for Incarnate powers, I'd hate the idea of just being able to buy into the powers.

I have too many friends that have worked too hard getting what was needed for several of their characters to see it invalidated by something as ridiculous as allowing players to purchase them.

    One thing I saw:

I thought current forum avatar allowable size was 600 x 150 px. Can this be verified? Else, many posters may have to shave 180 px^2 off of their signature pictures.

Currently it's 600 x 120 pixels, albeit the size currently is 146.5 KB in the UserCP Edit Signature page (top of photo) and 150 KB in the Message Forum Rules and Guidelines thread that theOcho posted in August 2010. I know that the UserCP Edit Signature page has been that way since they went to the vBulletin forums.

And yes, there are quite a few signature images that break the 600 x 120 rule. Another inconsistency in applying the rules.
  12. Cardiff_Giant, that provision is actually in the currently posted Message Forum Rules and Guidelines, albeit without the "City of Heroes Freedom is rated T for Teen" section.

EDIT: It's pretty well been in the forum rules as long as I can recall. Again, inconsistencies in applying the rules have been around since the forums started.
  13. Father Xmas, those items you quoted are in the currently posted Message Forum Rules and Guidelines thread that theOcho posted in August of 2010. The same one linked at the top of every forum subsection.

I think it may have been in the rules before that, but I don't recall for certain.

One of the problems has always been the lack of consistent application of the posted rules. It's been that way since (at least) the inception of the forums once the game was released.

Modifications or rewording of the rules does nothing to address that problem.

The rest of the incarnate system? To paraphase various 80's movies, "That wasn't part of the deal!"
There were people that pre-purchased GR that were able to get refunds of that pre-purchase when the Alpha Slot was pulled.

How? They asked customer support for a refund as soon as it was announced that the Alpha Slot sneak preview would not be included with GR.

Several people on the forums told them it wouldn't happen.

But CS agreed with them that since that was one of their major decisions in the pre-purchase that removal of that item was a good enough reason for a refund of the pre-purchase.

Of course, they also deleted any Dual Pistols characters and Demon Summoning characters on the account since early access to those powersets were tied to pre-purchasing GR.

So, if that was your reasoning for pre-purchasing GR you had ample opportunity to get a refund. Over a year after GR was released is a bit late to try to play that card.
  17. I had it sometime over the weekend. Not sure if it was Saturday or Sunday.

I also can't recall which of my 3 accounts it was on. One is my original Beta account, one is this account, and one is my (currently active) Alt account.

  19. When you went back to the 11.4 driver, did you run a program like Driver Sweeper after uninstalling the drivers you had and before installing the 11.4 drivers?

Driver uninstallers often leave quite a few files and other bits behind. If some of those files have the same name as files in the older driver, the computer will keep the newer version of the file when you install the older drivers. This can make it seem as if you have installed the older drivers and that they are having the same problems as the newer drivers.

Odd. I post on other vBulletin forums that don't have that problem at all. I have one forum that I haven't had to log into since back around the beginning of Spring 2011 or so.

I think someone posted something in the humongous thread over in Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs about the problems and what seems to be the solution from the Admin side.

EDIT: Coolio posted it, found the post.
  21. The one thing I'd like to suggest would be moving Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs out from under the Development section and put it under the Player Help section instead.

Many people incorrectly assume that since it is under the heading of Development that it is the way to get Developer attention or get official support, even though the description of that section states it isn't for official support. When you look at the other sections that are under the Development section, it's easy to see why they think that. We have the Dev Digest, Community Digest, the new Issue 21 Bug Report Forums, the Developer's Corner, the Global Training Room (Test Server) and the Character Copy Tool. All seem well suited to being in a Development section. Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs doesn't. Player Help seems much more suitable as a section to put that in.

It might be less confusing for new and old players to find it under a Player Help section where they are seeing players are helping players.

Many also seem to not be able to find the Suggestions and Ideas forums since they are buried in the For Fun section. It's not intuitive for someone new to the forums to find where to post their ideas and suggestions and so they end up posting them in Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs or Player Questions.

I have my own thoughts as to where S&I should go, but that's not a subject for this thread.

It's an effort to keep the spam posts down. Likely also to keep RMT posts off the forums as well. There may be other reasons I can't think of right now.

I can understand the lack of posting privileges for most of the forums, but I think there should be areas they can post in to get assistance such as the Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs section, possibly the Player Help and Player Questions sections as well.

Of course, monitoring of those areas would need to increase and if posters routinely abuse the forum rules, remove their posting privileges altogether.

Of course, the same should be done for VIP posters as well. If they routinely abuse the forum rules, remove their posting priveleges altogether.

    MARTy and me

    MARTy isn't a list.

If you trigger MARTy, your rewards will be throttled for a certain amount of time, and after the throttle is finished your rewards are as normal. Yes, it is likely recording a log of it's activities for the Developers to look over, but you aren't on "a list".

MARTy doesn't keep affecting you after the throttling is ended unless you trigger it again and a new throttle is applied.

You really should look into how something works before you start trying to blame it for things it doesn't do.
