Forum Avatars?
MARTy and Logger the forum logout bugger have joined forces.
It happend when they attempted to connect the live servers, where MARTy roams, with the forums which as we all know is Logger' turf in the failed attempt at bringing the store online.
The initial battle for supremacy was short lived yet devasting to the servers, resulting in many new problems and delaying bringing them back online.
In the interim however, a truce was reached between the entities. Realizing the power they both now commanded a plot was hatched.
The 1st casulaties in this sinister plot had to be our Avatars, as that is the basis of our individual power in this realm. With our Avatars removed, the combined might of MARTogger is now in complete control.

Went to change my avatar and it wont accept any new avatars regardless of the format. >: (
*Edit*
Ok, that was weird. The Avatar didn't save on the Edit Avatar screen. Went and edited my profile and the avatar appeared
pohsyb: so of all people you must be most excited about the veats
Arachnos Commander: actually, I am
pohsyb: I mean you kinda were one already anyways ^_^
Arachnos Commander:
My avatar *still* won't show. It's driving me mad.

Copy the link you are using and past it here.
I'm guessing you are actually linking to a viewer and not the image file.

Are you trying to use a file from your computer as your avatar or is it hosted on a publicly available site such as PhotoBucket, Flickr, ImageShack, etc?
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

There are some size limits in place now.
It may be that your new avatar is falling afoul of the size limit. |
EDIT: I just checked an icon that I know is over both filesize limits and dimension limits. It's still a huge filesize and it's still being scaled down. Apparently, they haven't set the forum software to enforce those limits, just as they haven't set the software to enforce the limits on Signature images. From what I'm told by moderators of other vBulletin sites I frequent, those can be enforced through vBulletin and/or simple vBulltin add-ons.

Several people use images that are larger than the allowed size, both in dimensions and filesize in bytes. If it's larger than the 100 x 100 pixel limit, the forum scales it to 100 x 100.

Stuff that's already in the system may be "grandfathered" in without the use of addons. Simply because it ALREADY passed a previous check and the board likely doesn't check again.
I was careful to keep the size small in my GIS, so many I am messing up the link. Anyway, I was trying to use either:
http://www.dreamwidth.org/userpic/476672/217829
or
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...tlewhatani.gif
But these and other icons weren't working. They're both supposedly exactly 100x100.
Edit: Odd, NOW it starts working. I don't get it.

When you say you checked, are you checking things that are linked to the board PRE-DATING the new limits? Or are you checking images you're trying to add to the board and it's taking things beyond the limits?

EDIT: Glad to see you got it working FizRep. Something else to remember, if you use the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the page to post a response, you won't see an avatar next to your post until you refresh the page. Using the Quote and Advanced features will show the avatar to you when you post.

To follow up on what TJ said, if the filesize for the avatar exceeds the 20kb limit that is stated in the forum rules, it will still accept it.
Like the one I just associated with my account a few minutes ago.
<-------------------- Filesize is 84.98 KB (87.024 bytes)
I tested it on an alt account using an avatar I've seen on the forums that WELL exceeds the filesize posted and the 100 x 100 limit.
It's a 193 x 193 image that the forum scales to 100 x 100. The filesize is, and I'm not kidding here, 2,000.83 KB. That's right, 2,048,852 bytes. Think of what people on dial-up experience when it gets to a page with that avatar on it. Sure, there are various ways to block images through the browsers and add-ons, and there is Web Accelerator software that will help with it, but the point is that they shouldn't have to have the forum slow to a crawl due to someone using HUGE files for avatars.
By the way, that avatar belongs to a rather prolific and informative poster so it's highly possible that they may try to open a thread that person posted in, or even one they started.

Heh, I know which poster you're talking about and his avatar even causes my browser to stutter a little.
TBH, I never realized that the current version of the avatar was so large until I went looking specifically for avatar's that were over the size limits to see if the forums would still accept them.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the filesize.

Hyperstrike, if you've seen WLM's post by now I'll call him to have him change the avatar. He used it since it was handy.

Wow. That's one big file. o.o
If I ever end up using one that large, please don't hesitate to send me a friendly PM letting me know. When I started playing this game, I was on dial-up, so I totally understand.

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
Since all forum avatars need to be hosted on other sites, there isn't a way for the forum software to check size and block any that are too big. They are simply asking people to behave.
It's as effective as having a bowl of candy outside your door on Halloween with a sign that says "Please take only one".
