I was rather amused by the edit that was made in my post. But then, I generally don't try to tell the Moderator's how to do their job. They have a boss that already does that.

Of course, if people didn't break the forum rules then the Moderator's wouldn't have to edit their posts.

Or they could take the ham-fisted approach some did previously of just deleting the entire post instead of editing them. It would likely save them time to do that.

I also expect older games to at least try to change their network code to work just as well, even if they end up not being able to. I also hope those games seriously consider making a "remake" or sequel if they can't change their network code, especially since such an "inability to change" is likely pulling the game down in a lot more ways as well as making it harder to develop more content. City of Heroes falls under this category.
What game exactly are you talking about that is an 8 year old game that spent 5 years before that in development?

What newer games are you talking about?

In just a couple of posts you've managed to say that you have a better connection than most others and a worse internet.

You can't even keep things straight within less than 30 minutes of posts.

Also, where did the developers ever say that Level Shifts were a dirty hack?

The only time I recall them using that phrase was when they were talking about Ouroboros.

If you're in Atlas Park, why would you zone to Founders before going to RWZ? There's a Vanguard depot in Atlas.
Very simple reason. Look again at what I replied to, specifically the parts in bold.

That part about talking to this other person somewhere else suggests that they left Atlas. It could be that they talked to the contact and then talked to someone else in another part of Atlas, but that isn't the immediate interpretation I get. My response was based on that interpretation.

And if it was meant that they were talking to someone else in Atlas, then the RWZ entrance in Atlas would definitely be the way to go rather than the train to Talos and then going through the Ferry to PI.

Most of those I saw doing it were trying to see if they could jump high enough to hit the zone ceiling.

Some were getting Kintrollers or Kinfenders to hit them with IR to increase the jump height.

In some ways it was similar to some early attempts to jump to the roof of buildings in Steel Canyon using only CJ and Hurdle.

Or similar stunts pulled by some that jumped from the roofs and would try to see how close they could come to the ground before they hit Hover or Fly and stopped their descent.

At one time there was a zone that had a few buildings in it that were taller than the zone ceiling. It was fun to get close to the top and jump so that you would hit the ceiling and bounce down. It's been long enough ago that I encountered that for me to have forgotten the details of which zone it was. Perhaps someone will come along with that information.

I'd have taken the train to Founder's instead, popped into RWZ since the entrance is right next to the train and immediately exited out to PI.

Or used the Mission Teleporter or Mission Transporter to get to the mission, since that was your stated reason for going back to PI.

It's possible I might have even gone through a base if I needed to drop something off in a storage bin, grab an inspiration or two out of storage, or anything I could do in the base.

We have enough alternatives to the trains that I don't think there are any plans being considered to extend any of the lines into PI.
  9. As I said, I'd have to sit and play a bit on the Dell site to know for certain what parts are currently available.

That's why I offered that qualifier.

The last system I put together for a gamer on the Dell site and customized had the same top end video cards available as iBuyPower did at the time, as well as the same processors.

For personal purchases and when recommending systems to friends, I never use their pre-configured systems. I always customize them to best fit what the user will actually need. I just haven't had occaision recently to need to configure a system that would be primarily used for gaming.

And as usual, I wasn't considering the power supply in the mix. I never have liked "stock" power supplies in any OEM system so always factor in replacing it right away with something beefy. So far I haven't had any problems that needed to be covered under warranty on the systems where I've immediately replaced the Power Supply so I'm not certain if it would actually void the warranty unless I'm taking it directly to Dell.

I know too many people that are authorized by Dell for repair (the ones they send out if you don't live in the Austin area) that don't consider replacing the Dell underPowered Supply to be voiding the warranty. Well, as long as the replacement is a quality power supply of higher specs.
  10. From what I'm reading on the Refer a Friend page, it can be used on an account that has been inactive for at least 90 days or on a new account.

I think they've basically rolled the old Refer a Friend and Invite a Friend Back packages together after the launch of Freedom, but I'm not certain.

That's certainly what it looks like from the way it's worded on the Refer a Friend page.

If they've been inactive at least 90 days, try clicking the Refer a Friend link and filling it in, then have them follow the instructions there for using the code to reactivate their account.

Other than that, necroposting is bad, mkay?

Well, You did not read My orig post.

I never said the things any of you are saying I said about Dell.

what I DID ssay is Dell is one of the worst places to buy a gaming computer. Without giving any backup or reasons.

that seems to be the gist of this entire thread from everyone who does have reasons.

just get tired of "Texas Justice" "Don't call me Tex" shooting off the only thing he can, his half-cocked mouth.
It's funny how people that quote your posts and refute the very statements you made like TJ, Ironblade and Erhnam are somehow saying things you never said they did. They are quoting your posts and replying directly to the very words you used so it's obvious you said those things.

I've even enlarged the font of one line in your post above that is the very point they are refudiating, so you've again said the very thing they are replying to. How are they saying things that you claim you didn't say?

Even when Aggelakis paraphrased your comment, it was still using several of the words and phrases you used. Here's Aggelakis' paraphrase as she posted it:

    Quote:

"Dell is terrible, don't buy Dell, rabble rabble rabble!"
Was that a valid paraphrase? Well, let's look at your post again since you seem to have forgotten what you said.

DELL specifically is one of the worst places to go for a high performance RIG. You are spending a good deal on the comp. Do not waste the money buying from some company know for substandard gaming rigs. GL.
I enlarged your words so you can see them easier. So how far off was Aggelakis' paraphrase to your exact words? We'll break it down into small pieces to make it easy for you to see.

"Dell is terrible" seems to be a valid interpretation of that last paragraph, especially the two sentences I enlarged the font on.

"don't buy Dell" seems to be fairly close to being word for word on the first sentence I enlarged and also seems to be a reasonable interpretation of the last sentence of your post.

Even though some of them didn't quote you, I notice that some other posters don't share your opinion of Dell. While not a ringing endorsement of Dell, their comments certainly don't make the claim that Dell is known for making substandard gaming rigs.

You can also save a good bit by choosing the XPS instead of the alienware and get the same innards.
Just in case you weren't aware of it, the XPS is the Dell system.

Father Xmas and Bill Z Bubba are two well respected tech oriented people here on the forums.

Hyperstrike is very knowledgeable about tech issues, as are half a dozen or more people I can think of just off the top of my head. Hyperstrike said this about Dell:

    Quote:

Do I recommend dropping back to Dell's XPS line, which is essentially the same thing? No. You're still getting the same basic "okay" hardware. Then getting nickel-and-dimed to death on all the options that turn the XPS from a workstation into a gaming box.
Of course, the system that he then recommends would cost about the same if getting an XPS system and selecting the options that make it a gaming system. I think I could come close on the pricing with an XPS system to what he priced from iBuyPower using similar or the same components. But I'd have to sit and play on the Dell site for a bit to know for certain what the price would be.

Ironblade, Chad Gulzow-Man and Aggelakis are all respected posters on the forum and I've seen nothing in their posts that indicates they didn't read or understand exactly what you said.

Psychic Guardian is the only one I can see that has made a post disagreeing with Chad's assessment of Dell's customer support, which was not something you brought up, based on their own experiences.

I've not had the same experience they did when I called Dell's Technical Support line, but they are least giving the basis for their comment.

As for my qualifications about technical issues? Well, I'm also employed as a computer tech. I work with Dell computers daily and have few hardware issues with them. I work with a few HP systems and several systems built by our techs over the years. We switched back to Dell systems for the reliability and excellent support we are getting, including next day parts when the computers are under warranty. It's still fast service when they are out of warranty and we need parts, but not next day service.

Personally, I own two Dell computers and have recommended several Dell systems to friends and co-workers. My 10 year old Dell laptop is still running strong and the only things I've done to it were upgrades of my own choosing, such as going to a bigger hard drive and a faster wireless card. It won't run City of Heroes with all the pretty graphics like my desktop does, but that's more to do with the graphics updates that came in Issue 17 and the lack of driver support for that old of a mobile video chipset. For everything I use it for, it's still a perfectly fine system. When it ceases to handle what I need it to do, I'll likely buy another Dell.

I've not had one bad experience with any of the Dell's I've bought or that I've recommended to others. Most of the problems I've run into were either a software issue that had nothing to do with Dell or were resolved with a simple driver update, again, not something specifically to do with Dell.

But I guess since I quoted you in this post I'm one of the ones that's saying something you never said about Dell.

As a follow up to my last post, I just wanted to point out something to you about what you said and the links you gave.

There is a way to get to the main page from the Freedom page if it does come up. Look at the two addresses you gave in the quote below.

Ok, that's in Internet Explorer. When I try it in Chrome, it does indeed go to the main page (http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/).

    --NT
Just put your cursor in the address bar after the end of the address and backspace to remove the /freedom.php portion of the address and hit Enter. Or simply highlight the /freedom.php portion, hit Delete and then hit Enter.

It will go directly to the main CoH page I still think it's something on your computer since I can't reproduce it here on multiple computers, several that haven't ever been to the City of Heroes website. None of them are going to the Freedom page you linked.
  14. I think you need to eat more bacon. Specifically, more bacon waffles.

I tested this on 4 different computers with 3 different versions of IE and 2 different versions of Windows. I used IE7, 8, and 9 on 2 XWinP systems and 2 Win7 systems.

2 of the computers had never been to the City of Heroes website. All 4 computers loaded the page correctly. Since 2 of them had never been to the site before, there weren't any cookies, temporary internet files or anything else to cause it to hang.

You may want to flush your DNS cache in case it's holding something funky. This definitely seems to be an IE problem, but one specific to your computer.

I tested all of them by typing in www.cityofheroes.com directly in the address bar and it redirected me to the same site that Blondeshell got. I got the same thing on two of them by using the City of Heroes link at the bottom right corner of this forum page.

As a side note, TJ saw me replying to your post and told me to ask if you were going to the Spring Pummit.
  15. Sorry Tex, that doesn't work for the Mobility drivers, only the Desktop drivers.

The only way I've been able to get the desktop drivers to install for a mobility card is to use one of the modder tools like Mobility Modder, and I'm not sure if it's working with current versions of the driver.

To the OP. The Vista and 7 drivers are the same for ATI cards, the only difference is between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

    Forum Avatars?

To follow up on what TJ said, if the filesize for the avatar exceeds the 20kb limit that is stated in the forum rules, it will still accept it.

Like the one I just associated with my account a few minutes ago.

    <-------------------- Filesize is 84.98 KB (87.024 bytes)
  17. For those that want to check out the menu ahead of time, the website for the Grubstake can be found here. There are menus for Breakfast (served all day) as well as for Lunch & Dinner, Wines and Beers, Beverages and The Portugese Corner.

Hope you all have fun. I'll have to live vicariously through TJ since I can't make it. I'm sure he'll tell me all about the weekend and the people, so much so that I may have to threaten him to get him to shut up.

Having looked at some of the reviews, it's likely a good thing that Dottie's wasn't the choice. While the food is reportedly extremely good, the long lines and wait times wouldn't really be conducive to a gathering like what I've seen from previous Justice dinners.

EDIT: TJ is thinking of going either to Holder's for Bacon Waffles or possibly to Stack's in SF for Bacon Waffles on Saturday morning.
  18. Is this what happens when experienced players run this?

    Gratz.
  19. enrious should know by now that some people lack simple internet search skills so they can't find anything unless they are given a direct link.

enrious, for that you have to unsilence 4 people in JFA2010 and leave them unsilenced for an hour while you are on. Then you can silence them again if you so desire.
  20. Hard to believe no one has posted a picture of Texas Justice on his homage character. I saw it briefly on Wednesday but couldn't make the event.

I hear he even teamed for this.
  21. Why not just uninstall those updates? You don't list what OS you are using, but I know that in Windows 7 you can see exactly what updates were installed and when and can select and uninstall them from that screen. It's in the Programs and Features screen but you need to select View Installed Updates in the left side of the window. I "think" Vista has the same setting but don't feel like rebooting into Vista to check.

If you are using Windows XP you can select the Show Updates box on the top of the Add/Remove Programs window to show the installed updates. Not having an XP install handy I can't recall if it shows when it was installed or not but I don't believe it does.

If you aren't sure what was installed, you can also check out what was in the most recent Patch Tuesday offering. One site that lists the KB numbers of the updates is TechRepublic. You can view the September 2010 Patch Tuesday listing using this link.

I've had little to no luck with System Restore over the years in getting it to actually correct a problem.
  22. Are you by any chance running the EVGA Precision tool or any of the other tools based off of the old Riva Tuner?

Those are known to cause problems when trying to change your graphics settings.
  23. Shia

EDIT: A bit of explanation for why I chose Shia's piece over CR's. As much as I like CR's work, I couldn't honestly vote for him as creating a winning entry for this months contest. I thought things looked overly familiar so I went back to CR's thread and found Buddy Caemgen and Grey Ming from the postings at the beginning of September, Laser Pointer and Darth Delicious from postings in August, Masked Shrike from July, and the cleaned up Kilotonnage pencils from July (cleaned up apparently from a colored posting from September of 2009). Seeing all these previously created pieces (6 of the 9 characters in the piece) made me wonder how much if any of this was new work, including the other 3 characters in the piece. Is the 13-½ hours you listed in the other thread including the time spent creating those previous works you included here? Was that just counting the time for photoshopping in the old artwork and adding whatever new artwork may be in the piece? Saying on your DA page that you literally started this the night before the deadline makes me curious about the time spent on it.

Is Shia's piece fully original? I don't know, but I know that it isn't anything I've seen posted here in the forums. I haven't looked at Shia's DA page (if one exists) so I don't know if this is something previously posted there. Without it being anything I recognize as having seen before, I have to accept in my head that it's artwork created specifically and fully for this contest entry. EDIT 2: After a bit of searching, I found Shia's DA page and I see nothing there that makes me think this wasn't fully created for this month's contest entry.

Sorry, this just feels too much like CR just photoshopped an entry together out of previously created art instead of either creating an original piece for the contest or just bowing out for whatever reasons.
  24. Uninstall the current installation and reboot. Go to the NCSoft page and log in to your account, on the Game Account Details page there is a link for a download of the PC Client.

I know that the US page gives the NA Setup file, but since I don't have an EU account I'm not certain if it gives the correct file or not. If it's the NA setup file, there is a post here somewhere about how to change it to work for the EU accounts.

I've seen too many of the downloads through Steam that came up wonky or doing odd stuff.
