9/28 Patch Broke Something With Graphics
I don't have this issue but what I've been experiencing after I downloaded the patch is that my Monitor would say "No Signal" and my whole screen would get turned off and I can't turn it back! I have to shut down my computer to restart.
I went back again and played for about 5mins and then the whole computer crash.
I went back again and my monitor gets "no signal" again.
I am not sure if it's the game, or my computer or both? I just know I didn't experience this kind of problem that often. I've seen this before but it was only rarely but I've seen my computer and monitor "shut down" 3 times.
And I am going to use my computer for while. If it's my computer's problem, shouldn't I get shut down as well?
I have a feeling it has something to do with the patch.. my gut feeling.
What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.

Does my report show anything weird? I am afraid to log in again because I think my computer will crash again.

I too am experiencing graphic problems due to today's patch.
I was able to play yesterday without problems, for several hours. Even did a Rikti Ship Raid.
Today though...
I crashed when opening the costume window, and crashed when trying to adjust any of the graphics settings.
I checked, and I HAVE the latest graphics drivers, haven't changed anything since yesterday, and have not installed anything new. Today's CoH update is the ONLY difference.

Just ran around Talos for a few. Went to Oro, came back. Changed some graphics settings. Did not have any issues. Mind you, I was only in game for about 5-8 minutes.

I, too, am having trouble. I logged in at around 3:00 AM due to a boring and sleepless night, and /everywhere/ was laggy unless it was a mission map. On a character info window, the portrait was black, unless it was mine, where it was a rainbow collage of pixels. I dropped UM to see if it helped, and it did not, and now, when I go to re-enable UM, City of crashes the second I move the slider over it. I know enabling an option in UM used to crash my laptop, but not UM itself, and I was able to enable and adjust that option after about a week. SO far the only difference in the game for me is the latest patch. I'd post up my info, but I'm too tired to try to figure out how to get it.
Using an ATI Radeon 5870 here. My fps got better with this patch. Running full Ultramode (minus ambient occlusion since I prefer FSAA) at 1920 x 1080.
Everyone w/problems in this thread is using Nvidia gfx. Probably a driver issue.
Well, not sure what happened. I think my graphic card is close to being toasted somehow.
I am actually in "safe mode". It got worse today than yesterday. Is this some kind of virus?
I tried to start CoV and every time I got on, I hear weird noise and then the whole computer locks up. It used to only happen maybe once in a while but now it is unplayable to the point that I think my graphic card has gone bad.
Before yesterday's patch, I actually did a ITF with zero crash. I don't know if it's coincidence or what. It is very frustrating.

On a few of my toons the windows are all messed up. Either the top or bottom has been 'snipped' making it look like something took a bite out of every window. Not game breaking but odd all the same.
I've only noticed it on 2 toons, all others have no graphics issues.

That's from a fresh install of the game, which sadly did not fix either the lag, or the game crashing when I so much as move the graphics slider to anything more than recommended. Before the most recent patch, I had neither of these problems. Though I'm willing to chalk the lag up to the storms that have been here all week screwing with the wireless connection on my laptop. Also, on the character info windows, the snapshot area is entirely black, NPC or other player alike, and a rainbow of pixels when I open my own info window. Again, never happened before the patch. According to GPU-Z, my laptop has an Intel graphics card.
Just noticed that the posters that are having issues have a driver date of 7/9/2010 while I have a driver date of 6/7/2010. Wonder if you roll back a version if your issues will go away?

Well, not sure what happened. I think my graphic card is close to being toasted somehow.
|
Turns out the card was defective, and was overheating, reaching temps of over 100 C. It seems Win 7 (and I'd say Vista, too, by extention) has a nice safety feature built-in to try to keep your system from being fried.
Are you playing on a Laptop?

Unfortunately, driver versions prior to 7/9/2010 do not support my graphics card. Support for the GeForce GTX 460 was added in that version, which is also the latest version.
I just installed the video card last week, and have been running just fine until 9/28. I also did a fresh install of Windows 7 when I put it in, so I've got a clean up-to-date system with latest drivers.
I notice that Kheldarn also has that model card. And a couple of your guys not reporting the problem, are running some variant of 9800's. I don't know, but it might be significant.
I checked the patch notes, and there was no mention of graphical changes. And yet this patch seems to have borked something with ultramode graphics settings.
I ended up shutting my compy down last night, and let it sit for about 5 mins, then booted up. A friend came over tonight, and I logged it, and cranked my settings back to what they were. There was a problem with shiney armor bits that went away after I hit Apply Now.
My friend logged in his account, and showed off one of his characters, and there were no issues that I saw. Really weird.

Well, I'm still getting crashes.
I can open the costume window now, but when I try and adjust the graphics settings it locks-up and crashes CoH.
This is crazy, it was working fine a couple days ago. And I was able to tweak all my graphics settings to adjust the new card to a sweet spot for frames-per-second, and now it just dies inexplicably when I try and turn anything off or down.
I do turn my computer off during the day while I'm at work, so I know it's not a reboot problem. I may be just stuck wiping and reinstalling everything again...
Are you by any chance running the EVGA Precision tool or any of the other tools based off of the old Riva Tuner?
Those are known to cause problems when trying to change your graphics settings.
Me? Yes, I've got EVGA Precision running, so I can monitor my card temp. Never had any problems chaning the settings until after that patch.
I'll try disabling it, and see what happens.

And I didn't install anything for it except the drivers from the nvidia website. WAY too many hardware companies these days pack in all kinds of garbage-ware along with the base drivers on their install discs these day. I don't trust them.
Today's patch broke something, graphics-wise.
I logged in about 8:10 PM EST, and there was weird green pixelation on the loading screen for Ouro, and the game was flickering. I went to Menu -> Options, clicked on the Graphics tab, and suddenly, my screen went black.
After about 15 seconds, it came back, and there was a in the System Tray, with a balloon saying the video driver stopped responding, but recovered.
I closed CoH, and restarted. I couldn't do anything because the account had expired. Ooops. Went and paid up some time, checked this thread, and logged in again. Turned off AO, and found that the Valk cape was an odd color, text in the chat box was blurry pixels, and then things came back, except my character had no legs.
I used /quit, and loaded the game again. I had to turn off UM, and set my graphics to Recommended. Anything higher, and the game flashes, and things get wonky.
At this point, I can't even bring myself to play. My video card is a brand new EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 460 768MB GDDR5 PCI-E 2.0.
Here are my reports.
