CoH not starting OpenGL error

I use an ASUS Notebook G73Jh series with a Radeon HD 5870 Graphics Card and in the past it has worked wonderfully. Now I can't even start CoF, because I keep getting the message, "An OpenGL driver for your video card 'ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series' was not found. The Game will not run with your current configuration." I have all my drivers updated from AMD and have Catalyst 12.1 on my computer and I used amd driver downloader to auto detect my drivers. I have no tech-savvy skills what so ever, so any help would be appreciated. I ran CoH Helper and here are the results.

I would try doing a clean uninstallation of your video drivers using a tool like Driver Sweeper, then reinstall them.

Basically, uninstall the drivers from your Control Panel / Programs and Features, restart and boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 while the system is loading and run Driver Sweeper from Safe Mode to get rid of all your remaining driver components and registry settings. Then, reboot back into normal Windows and reinstall the ATI drivers that you feel work best with your laptop (11.4, 11.9 and 11.12 were all generally pretty good if I recall correctly).

Unfortunately, for the mobile solutions, you download an installer package (that isn't version-numbered) and it handles your drivers for you.

Absolutely ***-tastic.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

So does anyone have a link they can post to help? Because I am at wits end and haven't been able to find old 11.9/11.3 software for 7. I found stuff for Vista but not 7. I really want to play CoF but I just can't start it.

Vista drivers should work just fine on Win 7... but if they don't, that's what you installed Driver Sweeper for. >_>

Sorry, I don't generally game on a laptop and didn't realize the old drivers weren't available the way the old desktop drivers are...

They are on AMD's website. Just go to www.amd.com and click on "Support & Drivers" in the upper-right and set:

Component Category: Desktop Graphics
Product Line: Radeon HD Series
Product Model: Radeon HD 5xxx Series PCIe
Operating System: Windows 7 - 64 Bit

and click View Results. This takes you to a page with the latest version. Scroll down and click "Previous Drivers".

Sorry Tex, that doesn't work for the Mobility drivers, only the Desktop drivers.

The only way I've been able to get the desktop drivers to install for a mobility card is to use one of the modder tools like Mobility Modder, and I'm not sure if it's working with current versions of the driver.

To the OP. The Vista and 7 drivers are the same for ATI cards, the only difference is between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Oops, I missed that it was a Mobility GPU. Yes, the Vista and Windows 7 driver are the same. They both use the same drivers. As WarLordMars pointed out, the only difference is between 32-bit and 64-bit driver version. You need the 64-bit.
