What happened to "cityofheroes.com"?

Why can't I get to the main page of City Of Heroes any more? There used to be a link in the upper right "Go to cityofheroes.com" that is now missing.

There is NO WAY to get to the main page from the Free To Play page of the top-level domain.

Way to go, NCSoft. Now I can't just type in the address on a friend's computer or at the library; I have to know the actual URL of the main page in order to see what's going on with the game I already own and play.

If anyone can figure out how to get to the main page without using a favorite/bookmark, please speak up. Otherwise, bring your pitchforks and torches.

They all laughed at me when I said I wanted to be a comedian.
But I showed them, and nobody's laughing at me now!

I'm not sure what you're looking for. I type in "CityOfHeroes.com" and I get the CoH page. It shows the News for me, including a link to today's patch notes. Advert for the coyote power. Click the "News", "Community", "Game Info" etc links on the left and I get the info. Looks normal to me.

Minor edit: not link to patch notes, news about live server publish,

When I type in "cityofheroes.com" it goes to the Freedom page, with the video and the "Play for Free Now" button (http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom.php).

Ok, that's in Internet Explorer. When I try it in Chrome, it does indeed go to the main page (http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/).

But it still doesn't excuse the fact that they got rid of the "Go to cityofheroes.com" link from the Freedom page.

Both Opera and Firefox took me directly to http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/

True, no obvious direct link to the main page, but you can get there from the "Games" drop down in the upper left.

I suggest NCSoft test it a bit more on IE. I just deleted all my history, cookies, etc. and it still doesn't work "right".

I think you need to eat more bacon. Specifically, more bacon waffles.

I tested this on 4 different computers with 3 different versions of IE and 2 different versions of Windows. I used IE7, 8, and 9 on 2 XWinP systems and 2 Win7 systems.

2 of the computers had never been to the City of Heroes website. All 4 computers loaded the page correctly. Since 2 of them had never been to the site before, there weren't any cookies, temporary internet files or anything else to cause it to hang.

You may want to flush your DNS cache in case it's holding something funky. This definitely seems to be an IE problem, but one specific to your computer.

I tested all of them by typing in www.cityofheroes.com directly in the address bar and it redirected me to the same site that Blondeshell got. I got the same thing on two of them by using the City of Heroes link at the bottom right corner of this forum page.

As a side note, TJ saw me replying to your post and told me to ask if you were going to the Spring Pummit.

As a follow up to my last post, I just wanted to point out something to you about what you said and the links you gave.

There is a way to get to the main page from the Freedom page if it does come up. Look at the two addresses you gave in the quote below.

Just put your cursor in the address bar after the end of the address and backspace to remove the /freedom.php portion of the address and hit Enter. Or simply highlight the /freedom.php portion, hit Delete and then hit Enter.

It will go directly to the main CoH page I still think it's something on your computer since I can't reproduce it here on multiple computers, several that haven't ever been to the City of Heroes website. None of them are going to the Freedom page you linked.

It's not "you," this has happened to me before.

See here.

Specifically, clearing the cache worked for me, and I once again was able to see and use the link on the main Freedom page. You say it didn't work for you, bu it sure sounds like the same issue. Did you also try a clean boot after clearing the cache?

The more you think you know...

This time, I unchecked the "Preserve Favorites website data" and it worked. If only I could use something other than IE on my work computer. Oh well, all better now. Thanks for checking, everyone.

Yeah, the whole 'preserve favorites' is rather silly considering when one knows enough to manually clear cache, then they normally mean to clear all of it.

Even if that link is missing, there IS a way to navigate to the main page, but it's not very obvious.

Click "Learn More" at the bottom of the splash page, and then the "Community" tab at the top of the Freedom site.
