Cohupdater.eu.exe and Steam = meltdown?
Go into your City of Heroes folder and delete all .checksum files.
Run the updater from desktop again.
Let us know how it goes.

Yep, same as before. It runs through the new checksum just fine, goes on to "requesting patch" and whatnot, and then crashes at "verifying image". Looking at the log, it repeats the same nineteen steps every time, crashing on: 19 xferStatsInit: mode=StatsVerifyingImage,base=0,total=0
Uninstall the current installation and reboot. Go to the NCSoft page and log in to your account, on the Game Account Details page there is a link for a download of the PC Client.
I know that the US page gives the NA Setup file, but since I don't have an EU account I'm not certain if it gives the correct file or not. If it's the NA setup file, there is a post here somewhere about how to change it to work for the EU accounts.
I've seen too many of the downloads through Steam that came up wonky or doing odd stuff.
Okay, just to be clear.
You bring up the CoH Updater, and it requests a patch, downloads it, applies it (repeats as necessary), and then attempts to verify, during which process it crashes?
Methinks we might need to see CoH Helper and HijackThis logs to get a better idea, anyway, so I'll throw that out there for you now, but I have to say I'm a bit lost as to what's causing the crash.
Oh, and if you'd like to follow the advice above: Here's where to download the EU client from.

So! Downloaded via Steam, and I'm getting the updater crash noted elsewhere here. The problem is that none of the solutions and workarounds do much of anything.
Run updater from desktop? Works fine, it fixes files and whatnot...and then crashes repeatedly on "verifying image".
Skip the updater by adding -project coh to the desktop shortcut? Runs the game, but since it's not patched doesn't actually accomplish much of anything and leaves me loitering on a blank server select screen.
As it's Steam, the "copy piggs folder, etc, etc, uninstall...reinstall" option doesn't appear practical.
My computer is running XP, so I sincerely doubt it's an administrator issue (even if I wasn't running this on the administrator account - which I am).
Seriously, the last time a game caused this much bafflement was waaaaay back when EQ2 launched and had the darndest time understanding that people could indeed have more than one hard drive.
