  1. Those drivers are not the most current drivers. Those are the 11.7 drivers. The 11.5 through 11.8 drivers had several problems with CoH. Those seem to be resolved in the new 11.9 drivers that were just posted on the ATI site. You can download the 11.9 Mobility Drivers from the ATI site using this link.

The "old driver detection" used by the game doesn't check to see if you have the most up to date drivers, it checks to see if they are older than a specified (and unknown to players) amount.
  2. Those other games run on DirectX. CoH runs on OpenGL.

The gameadvisor app tells me nothing. It may tell NCSoft support something, which is why they ask for it.

I wasn't talking about loading Windows in Safe Mode or running the gameadvisor in Safe Mode, I was asking you to try to launch the game in Safe Mode to see if it will finish loading the Justice list.
  3. Vir was one of my favorite characters as well. And that is one of my favorites of his lines.
  4. I don't see anything out of place in those two, but it doesn't show everything their game advisor shows that helps with their troubleshooting.

Let's try this to see if you can load in Safe Mode and get the character list to finish on Justice.

Open the NCSoft Launcher but don't launch the game.
Right-click the City oh Heroes entry and select Properties.
Put a checkmark in Launch in Safe Mode at the bottom and click OK.
Launch the game, log in and select Justice.

Does it still hang on "Retrieving your characters" or does it let them load?
If it finishes loading, log in on a character to make sure you can get into the game.
    Disable Geometry Buffers.
    Exit to Desktop.
Open Launcher again so that you can remove the Safe Mode setting then launch the game, log in and select Justice.
    What happens?
  5. So on other servers it does the "Retrieving your character" and then shows the list with them locked?

If so, it looks like it's something support needs to look at. The support site is https://support.cityofheroes.com

Be sure to mention that the character list loads on other servers but is only hanging on Justice.

    Good luck.

EDIT: Nothing really looks out of place in the CoH Helper report.

EDIT 2: A thought occurs to me. Can you launch the game in Safe Mode and get the character list to load? I'm not in front of my computer with CoH on it, but if you'll give me about 20 minutes I can get home and give instructions for launching in Safe Mode with the new NCSoft Launcher.

  7. I could give you the standard reason we use for why we can't do things here in my School District.

    Because it makes sense.
  8. Something is still blocking CoH Helper from accessing the settings in the registry.

Also, the video driver installation is still corrupted. It should be showing in the same date format as your sound card driver does in the CoH Helper report.

Whatever is causing the driver to not install correctly is possibly also blocking CoH Helper from getting the rest of the information from the Registry. It could also be causing the problems you are having getting the game to launch.

I haven't tried running CoH on that old of a card for quite a while, well before the graphics engine updates that came with Issue 17. I'll see if I have a computer here at work to test it on to see what it does and report back.

In the meantime, you'll need to figure out what is causing the driver installation issues, what is blocking CoH Helper from reading the Registry settings for the game and get those corrected.
  9. *runs off to make a Facebook post about this, a 6 part tweet about it and a new Blog post that no one will read*
  10. Most other MMO's use DirectX for the graphics. City of Heroes uses OpenGL.

That card will need the graphics set to the minimums and may still be problematic. The Legacy Drivers are the only ones supported for that card unfortunately.
  11. Quit to the Desktop. Open the NCSoft Launcher but don't start the game yet. Right-click on the City of Heroes entry and select Repair (Consistency Check). After the Repair completes (it may need to re-download some files if they are corrupted) launch the game and see if it is still happening.

If it is, write down the exact costume options (all of them) that are selected on the character so that we have some actual information to test with. Also, be sure to note if which character model (male, female, huge male) this is on, the AT and powersets so that we can see if it's only certain items that cause it or if it's more widespread.
  12. Several ATI users have upgraded to the new 11.9 version of the drivers that were just released and are not experiencing the issues we've been seeing since the 11.5 drivers came out.
  13. The video driver installation appears to be corrupted (the funky date being shown only for the video driver). From what I can see from searching that Driver Version, it looks to be a really really old driver from 2008. That driver won't handle the OpenGL calls correctly. Looking at the nVidia site, that may be the most current driver for that video card which means there is little you can do with it other than try to get a clean installation of the drivers rather than the corrupted install showing here.

Follow these steps to do a clean install of the drivers.
    1. Download the 175.19 drivers from the nVidia site but don't install them.
    2. Download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet.
    3. From the Control Panel go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any nVidia Display Drivers or nVidia Display entries found there. Don't reboot if it asks to. Don't remove any nVidia motherboard or sound entries.
    4. From the Control Panel go to System and click on the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Click the +next to Display adapters. Right-click on the nVidia entry there and select Uninstall.
    5. Reboot the computer and press F8 rapidly to get the menu. Choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking.
    6. Cancel any New Hardware wizards that come up.
    7. Launch Driver Sweeper and select the nVidia Display or nVidia video options only. Click Clean. Reboot when it asks if you want to reboot.
    8. Let Windows load normally but cancel any New Hardware wizards.
    9. Install the drivers you downloaded previously, reboot when prompted.
    10. To check to see if the installation is corrupt, run CoH Helper again and paste the results into Notepad, WordPad, Word or whatever text editor you have. If the date on the video driver looks normal, the installation is not corrupted. If it is still showing that strange date, something on your computer may be keeping it from installing cleanly. That could be anything from the Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware software that is installed, the Soluto software, a virus or malware that hasn't been detected and removed or something else. In most cases, the installation will not be corrupted if you follow these steps.
Unfortunately, that's the newest driver for that card so it may do little for you. At that point, you might want to look at investing in a newer video card although that may also require upgrading your power supply.

Along with the video driver issues, something is apparently blocking CoH Helper from accessing the registry entries. There should be quite a bit of game settings information below where your report stops. I don't know if it's the anti-spyware program, the anti-virus program or something else such as Soluto (you are now the second person I've seen with that program installed). It could also be what caused the corrupt video driver installation.

As a final note, you are also extremely low on space on both drives. You may want to try to free up some space on the C: drive so that it is above 20% Free space (above 25% would be better). It appears that the D: drive may be a recovery partition put there by HP, if so, don't mess with it.
  14. What forum section was it in? What was the thread? I can try it on my Premium account and see what the results are and what the Posting Rules at the bottom show.
  15. The Date format on your video and audio drivers is in an odd format, probably due to the Language or Locale settings or possibly even a Date Format setting.

From what I can find on that video driver version number, it appears to be a driver dated September or November 2010. You may need to update the video driver. I'd recommend going to the ATI site since the most current one that Dell lists is the driver you have installed.

My Nvidia drivers are up to date.
You did? I don't see a HiJackThis log anywhere.

No longer correct. The 11.9 drivers have been getting good reports from those that have tried them.

I had 0 problems after upgrading to them yesterday after seeing the posted reports.
  18. I'd recommend getting them directly from AMD/ATI.

I think they'd have to rename it to something else with that name.

  22. First of all, WoW (and most other MMO's on the market) use DirectX instead of OpenGL (as CoH does) for rendering graphics.

Your graphics drivers are 2 years old. They likely don't support the OpenGL calls that the program is making. Intel graphics chipsets are not a gaming chipset by any stretch of the imagination. Looking at the Intel site, I don't see any drivers newer than October 2009 for that chipset. Intel has long had a reputation for poor OpenGL support in their drivers. The game got a significant graphics update in 2010 that uses OpenGL 3 (previously it was built using OpenGL 1).
