Just don't copy/paste the response or it might get deleted as a violation of forum rules.
Summarize the answer and you should be OK. -
Ah, so the historical section on the P-Wiki link I gave earlier needs to be updated.
I didn't remember the I14 rename option happening or the VIP Headstart rename option.
I did remember the one in the summer of 2006 (the Issue 7 one you mentioned). -

Quote:You can go to the support site at https://support.cityofheroes.com and use the Ask A Question tab to submit a support ticket to ask them about it. You could also send an email to support@coh.com to ask, but you'd likely need to give more details such as Account name and other info that the AAQ form gets.is there anyone in specific i can speak to so i can find out for sure?
To use the support site, you will need to create a support account if you haven't created one before. It is not the same as your Master Account or Game Account, although it can use the same username and password.
EDIT: You can also use the support site's Live Chat tab to ask the question Monday through Friday between Noon and 5 PM Central. Live Help is only available for Account, Billing and Technical Support issues. It seems this would qualify as a Billing or Account issue. -
Several things can cause this.
The best suggestion I can make is to head over to the ALL ACCESS: Gameplay / Technical Issues & Bugs forum section and follow the instructions in the stickied [Guide] Asking for technical help on the forums thread written by Hyperstrike.
The main things needed then would be for you to start a thread in that section with a problem description and the output logs from CoH Helper and HiJackThis. The instructions in that thread will show you where to get the programs, how to run them, and how to post the results.
That will give the folks that hang out there enough information to assist you with your problem. -

Quote:Just to elaborate on that a bit, the support site for CoH is now at https://support.cityofheroes.com and use the Ask A Question tab. The Support site also uses a separate login from the Account and Game logins. If you haven't used it before you'll need to create a new Support account. It can be the same username and password as the Account or Game login, but they are still separate logins (you can change one of the passwords and not affect the passwords for the other logins). If you have an SG you should see her characters still listed in the SG roster, showing that those characters are still "there."
If none of the above helps, contact support. You can't petition in game if you are F2P, but you can use the regular support page to ask for assistance. Recovering an account is something they should be able to do.
You can also email the support staff at support@coh.com
There is a Live Chat tab on the Support site, but it has limited hours (Noon to 5 PM Central Time M-F) and may be limited to VIP accounts. It's a fairly new option and I haven't had an opportunity or a valid reason to test it with my Premium account to see if it is only for VIP accounts. -

Quote:It seems you misunderstood my post and the point I was making as to why they haven't re-enabled the ability to create new pacts. The thing is, level pacts haven't ceased to exist altogether - if you were a VIP player you could still create level pacts during the Freedom Headstart period, and as far as I know those pacts are still in effect, you just can't create any new ones. So the scenario you describe could very possibly have happened already. In fact, I know it has - to me.

I have the same computer and same video card, although I've installed a second hard drive and am running Windows 7 64-bit on it.
The video card is a 1 Gb ATI Radeon HD4850. As Hyperstrike said, it's the drivers reserving 2 Gb of system memory for buffering that is causing the reading you see for video memory.
I've been running the 11.9 drivers for a while now with no problems at all at a higher resolution (1920 x 1080) than what you have yours set to (1360 x 768). I doubt there is enough difference between Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit to change my recommendation of the driver, especially since both OS versions use the same video driver. -
And our questions about BAB and Synapse have been partially answered. Thanks to Samuraiko for sending Tweets to Matt about it and posting the responses in the official Discussion thread.

Bah, you make it too easy on them.
I can't post to Twitter at work, just read, so I couldn't ask questions.
Not sure if I'd have wanted to ask there anyway. -
Quote:Nope. My original forum handle had nothing to do with any of my characters. It was a variant of a chat handle I'd used in IRC chats, website based video chats, forums, as well as being my handle in various FPS game.Lol am I the only guy that didn't make a character named after their forum handle?
When globals were added to the game I changed my Forum Handle to match my in-game main, Texas Justice. Of course, due to "no spaces" restrictions, I used _ instead of the space. When they switched to vBulletin for the forum software it allowed spaces in the names so I asked Ex Libris or Niviene to change it for me when they made the offer and they did change it to the version with the space.
---------------
As to whether or not Texas Justice is my original main, well, yes and no. During Beta, the Texas Justice character was one I kept recreating on days when they'd have a stress test with creating new characters. He was also the character I used for trying different looks and modifying the costume during Beta until I got what I wanted from the look.
Texas Red was the version of Texas Justice that I tested with in Beta. I use that phrasing because at times Texas Justice seems to have some memory lapses. Of course, he blames it on getting older and having swiss-cheese memory. But is it really?
Texas Red is a bit clueless as to where these neat little gadgets he keeps finding come from, as well as this odd looking costume that was in a box hidden in his attic. He seems to have a bit of amnesia at times as well, and doesn't know very much about his own life.
Some people suspect that Texas Justice and Texas Red are the same person, but no one has ever really found out the truth about the two, even super-powered relatives that have met both. Doc Texas and Texas Lawdawg thinks Red is just some nice guy that stumbled on an old costume similar to what TJ wears, and humoring him they invited him to join the South Texas Knights. Very few of the other members have met him, but they do have to wonder about the two of them given the similarities in powers and costumes, the physical resemblances and the memory issues.
Maybe some day the world will find out the truth, but maybe not. -
Yeah. I seem to recall Positron posting somewhere that BAB wasn't a member of the FP.
Now where did I see that.
Oh yeah, over on Twitter.
Quote:So Positron, can you clear this up for us? Is he or isn't he?
@Positron_CoH: I was reading Paragon Wiki... Where in CoH do we give the impression that Back Alley Brawler is a member of the Freedom Phalanx? (he's not)
And if he isn't, why is he brought up in the ViDoc called The Heroes of the Freedom Phalanx?
And why isn't Synapse mentioned at all in that discussion? Did he and BAB suddenly swap places as to who is a member of the FP?
Or is that a hint of something else? Are you saying Synapse isn't a hero? Or isn't in the Freedom Phalanx?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Because knowing is half the battle.

Quote:Good luck with that. The Character Copy Tool is reported to be broken again.
(crosses fingers and makes note to finish transferring all his 50s to beta)
The OCR team has been notified and I suspect they have notified the group that works on the Copy Tool but we've not gotten any updates about it. -
After a little digging in the Oceanic Lounge forum section, I found a post with better information on the silencing in the Australia channel.
-
No idea then and not really able to tell anything from the CoH Helper report since it's missing all of the game settings.
Did you right-click CoH Helper and select Run as Administrator? -
Interesting. I didn't remember reading about a Global rename with Freedom but I could have missed it.

If I remember some of the discussions correctly, part of what they were trying to figure out how to handle was making it apply only to VIP character.
There are a few problems with implementing that solution that are likely holding up their solutions.
Both players are VIP, create new characters and level pact them, one or both of the accounts goes Premium. It's possible that neither player intended to go Premium but simply lapsed for a few hours (or a day) for various reasons.
How do you handle that? If you simply break the pact, that causes a problem if it was just a matter of someone not getting the sub renewed in time. I've seen several times that people have commented that their sub lapsed for a few hours for one reason or another. Sometimes it is not from anything a player did wrong either.
If you break the level pact in that situation you risk losing two subscribers and possibly more when word spreads.
So how long of a grace period do you give if a sub lapses? And what do they do about the pacted XP being gained while that sub is Premium? Even if it's only a few hours, a character can gain quite a few levels while pacted in just a few hours and then it's supposed to be shared with the pact-mate when they log back in.
I'm not sure that they have the tech to just suspend the Premium account from gaining any pacted XP while it is Premium. If they did, they'd likely have implemented it already.
I think they want to find a solution to bring it back, but haven't found a way to do it so that it can only work for VIP accounts and not penalize people for small lapses in subscription time, especially inadvertent lapses or something out of control of the players. -
Quote:Don't put words in my mouth please. What in the world does this have to do with anything I wrote? I couldn't care less about why the post was deleted. Or the post at all, for that matter. I didn't even bother to click the link. I just took TJ's assessment as accurate that it was considered an exploit fix.
I never said it was considered an exploit fix. I never mentioned the word exploit at all.
I used the word bug, which is the word that was in the response the player received from support.
Bug =/= Exploit -
The Ambient Occlusion settings are very GPU intensive. Many people report a framerate drop with them enabled and especially at higher settings.

By any chance are you using a custom login screen? Samuraiko was having similar issues when zoning and noticed that her custom screen was coming up as the load screen while zoning when she crashed.
I haven't heard from her since she took that screen out as to whether or not it's fully resolved the problems, but if you have a custom screen it would be a good thing to try. -
No, there is no method to combine accounts or to transfer characters between accounts.
-
Good to know. That was something I've not been aware of for a few reasons.
I don't install games to the default location.
I pay attention to the wording of any prompts that come up and answer accordingly. If it's something I'm not sure of, I Google it before continuing.
