What constitutes an "important skill" can be pretty subjective.

You're absolutely right. By design you're not supposed to skip the first power in your secondary power set. That's just the way it is.
  4. I don't follow other people's guides/builds, but I do often plan my characters' progressions out in Mids and follow said progression. However, I've also had a few characters I just played to 50 with no set plan. It depends on what I'm trying to accomplish, what my mood is at the time, and whether that darned butterfly halfway across the world flapped its wings just so.

I find it more strange than sad, but that may be because it's a reference I'm unaware of.

But it also makes me think I should have put in a power called jack-in-the-box.
  6. The ultimate stealth tool, combining SEP technology with a retro-stylish lack of curves or streamlining.

    1) Just a Box - the standard Stalker Hide toggle, but the character is completely hidden inside a box.

    2) Reinforced - Offering a decent amount of Smashing and Lethal resistance and a small amount of Melee Defense.

    3) Cardboard Cover - offering some Ranged and AOE defense and a small Resistance to Smashing and Lethal damage.

    4) Duct Tape - a Dull Pain type power.

    5) Proofing - Mez protection toggle with an Immobilization hole, but some Resistance to Fire and Cold.

    6) Box Livin' - Auto: Smashing and Lethal Resist, minor Regen buff

    7) Close the Lid - an AoE Placate

    8) Companion Cube - summons a decoy box pet that can only taunt.

    9) Crate - The ultimate box.

    A Claws/Box Stalker in action.

A stacking damage buff plus the damage buff from Against All Odds might be nice, too (if Kinetic Melee works with Shield Defense).

It's happened to me numerous times. Rikti, Council groups chock full of Marksmen, Nemesis, Gunslingers, and those Rad-slinging Neutron bots as blue minions and white Lts have all defeated my FF Defender with PFF on.

the only way is if you had less then 50 hp when you turned it on and it would have to have been an entire group of npc's shooting at you right before you turned it on and they all would have had to hit you. in mid's it shows 81.9% def with just 3 so's in it. if you use io sets, that number can reach over 100%. hell, even when you add stealth and weave on top of it, each with 3 so's in them, it takes def up to 92.8%. eat a purple insp or 2 and nothing is hitting you at all.

try weating some insps next time you go into PFF. both green and purple. makes a big difference.
In theory, Lucks of any size (or even three-slotting with Def) should be unnecessary given the number of the buff. And in any case, Inspirations of any kind should be unnecessary if "the user is very unlikely to be subjected to any degree of danger thanks to the incredible level of survivability the power provides."

Your argument would actually have some legitimacy if it weren't for the fact that you are the one that turns it on and off and that you'd have to be completely outclassed to even be threatened by a target while it's on.
I've been killed by a group of -1 enemies with it on before.

And yes, you control when it gets turned on, but the thing is you generally turn it on when you need it, which is more often than not when you're far from full health. A couple of "lucky" shots later and that PFF didn't do you any good, but at least it fully protected them from you in your last moments. Perhaps the reason you were in dire straits was due to a mounting and staggering array of Defense debuffs which render the PFF less survivable as it fully protects the enemy from you.

It's a great argument, I'd say. We have a power here which is supposed to be highly specialised at protecting the user from the enemy, yet what it does best is protect the enemies from the user, allowing them to potentially kill the user from a position of complete safety.

    /Nin or /Nrg

I'd probably go with Energy Aura simply because click mez protection is irritating.

Let's say there's a 1% drop rate and you defeat 1,000 critters. You would expect to get 10 drops. However there is a 12.9% chance you will get 6 or less and a 1% change to get 3 or less. That means 100 players go defeat 1,000 critters each and the odds are 1 unlucky player will only get 3 or fewer drops. It's also true that 1 player will likely get 18 or more.

A RNG can be a harsh mistress.
They should treat it like To-Hit and force a drop after so many non-drops.

As would I. It makes little sense to completely protect the enemy from your attacks while leaving yourself vulnerable. They may as well let enemies hit with Detention Field attack you whilst remaining unaffected by attacks themselves, too.

I'm not asking for a god mode power, just fair balance. If they have a chance to hit me through it then I should have at least as much chance to hit them. If I am absolutely unable to hit them, then they should be absolutely unable to hit me.

Nope. The term in question immediately makes my mind turn to worms, parades, and technicolour. After that it's a short trip to anime imagery that is best not discussed in detail.

True enough, I suppose, but the main point was that replying makes the trolling successful and thus they "win".

Au contraire, if the fish don't bite your trolling was unsuccessful. It's kind of inherent to the term. Of course, if there are no replies there's also no indication of people being irritated/angered nor is there much in the way of disruption.

There just ain't no way that anybody could have been on the Internet for 5 years (forum join date 2005) and NOT have heard of Slashdot. Not when New York Times has mentioned them. Not when Fox News has mentioned them. Not when CNN has mentioned them. Not when CBS, NBC, ABC, Reuters, and the Associated Press have mentioned them.

You would have to have your head buried in a lump of concrete to have been on the web for that long and never have at least HEARD somebody refer to Slashdot.
I've been online since the pre-Web BBS days (playing LORD, Cripple Smash, and downloading shareware put out by guys like Moraff) and this was the first I've heard of Slashdot. Mind you, I've been actively avoiding news other than weather for almost 9 years now.
  20. I've tended to avoid them on all but Willpower characters, deeming them otherwise not worth the Endurance drain or power slots.

It would be more akin to asking who the hell Linux is and what happened to his sister Luxy?
  22. I don't particularly mind Comic Sans. Just about any simple, readable font that allows for easy distinguishability between capital "i" and lowercase "L" would be better than the default font in the game. Whoever chose that font is due for a Penance Stare.
  23. I use a Saitek dual analog controller. I move with the D-Pad, use the right stick for camera control and click it for TAB-targetting, and use the left stick for the mouse cursor and click it for the left mouse button. My six face buttons are set to numbers 1-6 with 4 set as the jump button by default, my two right shoulder buttons are set to 7 and 8, and my two left shoulder buttons are set to either ALT and CTRL or ALT and SHIFT.

Using the left shoulder buttons and the right stick movements I can cycle through friendly or hostile targets in various ways, and using those shoulder buttons with the other face buttons gives me access to 8 commands in trays 2 and 3 for a total of 23 available tray commands. If the game would recognize combined shift keys (for instance CTRL+ALT+<key>) I could have more commands at my fingertips, though I generally don't need more.

I've played nearly every MMORPG I've ever tried on a dual-analog controller (mainly Saitek), with the keyboard being almost solely used for chat.

  25. It wholly depends on what was in the expansions and their price.

But considering I've picked up every expansion and special edition w/bonus stuff I could get my hands on thus far, there's a good chance I would pick up any expansions they put out.
