Yep, that's a bug.

Why didn't they put this in the patch notes??
So... now I gotta kinda "farm" rikti for the merits?? Bleh
[/ QUOTE ]
What farm? Just join your server's next Mothership raid, you'll get a 100 merits easy. -

Faultline has a bunch.. I think you can find them in Kings Row too, why?

That was going to be my point..

I do find it funny that my anti-virus program, Kaspersky, keeps complaining that CoH is showing "key logger"-like behavior when I'm playing... although it does mark it as "low risk".

Actually, I think the Customer Service rep (what's her name now?) said that trials are blocked from sending emails. But the spammers are now paying for accounts with stolen credit cards and using them to continue spamming.
I think changing to only receive emails from people on your own friends/SG list will solve alot of problems. I still don't understand why this hasn't been done yet.
Of course, people could quit paying the spammers and the problem would go away that way. -

No, because it's also assumed, Munki, that you would be able to form your question in a reasonably intelligent manner.
Or, far more likely, you'd *come here* and find out on the Wiki before asking at all.
[/ QUOTE ] I would go to Paragonwiki before to find out info like I mentioned before asking a random person or broadcasting, but not everybody will. Besides, wiki's can be wrong. For example, while trying to find Ice Mistral last night I used paragonwiki. The coordinate numbers were correct, except the last number out of the three was -2210 instead of 2210(btw since I have no experience editing wikis I didn't touch it, so somebody should check it out).
I had to ask somebody to finally find her. The person could have assumed I was being stupid and been a dick, but he just answered my question. To me that is a much better response than assuming I should know it or should have found the asnwer from Paragonwiki(since it was wrong) than being a dick because I have a bunch of vet badges.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most noobies who would be treated like that wouldn't have known Ice Mistral's name, much less which zone she was in. By even including that in your broadcast, you would have shown atleast some intelligence and willingness to learn. -

New players don't have veteran badges.
[/ QUOTE ] So if I start a new account you'll be able to look at my vet badges and tell how long I've been playing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Here's an interesting data point - how many people have accounts started several years apart? This is not a claim one way or the other, it's an actual question that might bring more meaning to the discussion. Personally, I never remember to check badges at all out of sheer forgetfulness.
[/ QUOTE ] Honestly, I have no idea. But I think(speculation) it is enough that relying on vet badges is a poor idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
I only look at vet badges when someone is being exceptionally foolish. I then look at the badges to determine how I should deal with them.
2 or less? All right.. benefit of the doubt, try offering advice to correct their foolhardy actions.
3 or more? You should really know better.. I'll give you one shot to straighten up or its a 1 star and pray I never see you again. -

I don't see how this turnewd into an argument. Newbies who get PLed to 50 are a problem. I teamed with a Soldier of Arachnos the other day who didn't know what the black market was. That shouldn't happen.
[/ QUOTE ]
Hang on, why shouldn't it? Its optional content. The whole invention system is optional. The Devs haev said explicitly that several mods/improvements should be considered optional.
So why fault *any* player who isn't knowledgeable about IO's or the black market/auction house? The game doesn't require them to utilize any of it. Why should you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Whether utilized or not, I don't see any reason not to be aware of its existance. Heck, I discovered the Wentworths back when I was level 2 in Atlas when I started and was fresh out of the tutorial zone. How?
"Hey, this building looks neat.. what is it? Hey, I found the auction house.. cool. What's for sale? What!? I'll never have that much money!!" -

If a level 50 with 5 vet badges asks how to train to the next level.. do you think they're someone who honestly cares about learning how to play the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
How is a lvl 50 with 5 vet badges a newbie?
This example that you're using goes against the original point that there's too many newbies PL'ing to 50 in a day's time.
[/ QUOTE ]
a newbie means someone who's just new to the game and is learning the ropes.
a noob/noobie is someone who displays willful ignorance and refuses to learn the ropes and wants everything handed to them.
I did not specify either in my post. But I have seen lvl 50's with multiple vet badges asking things like "where are the trains? what's oro? What do you mean exemp?" -

Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Half of you making the complaints are TF farmers who just can't be bothered; the other half I suspect went through their own "newbie" phase and how *quickly* you forget how we, the first generation of players, carried you along as we hooked you up and waited patiently for you to find your groove.
I've never been as downright obnoxious to new players as y'all are doing now just by listing your complaints out in this thread. Get over yourselves and give new players a chance.
Threads bemoaning new players like this are *much* much worse than anything Positron had to say about MA abuses and it works against everything the Devs do to solicit new players to try the game.
I'm not saying you're wrong for being frustrated, but I do think you're wrong for being uncooperative and airing dirty laundry like this.
Seriously, its just not cool.
[/ QUOTE ]
I will give a level 10 new player a chance.
I will not give a level 50 new player who doesn't know how to use the tram or what enhancements do, a chance. Period.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah i'll give 200K to a new lvl 1 player. Give them advice. Show them the ropes. Follow them around on a healer or buffing toon. Whatever, But i refuse to do that with a lvl 50 hero. I mean, it's just silly. Why would you wanna start a game at the end and expect to learn anything?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, because every lvl 1 or lvl 10 player you see is a *new* player right...? As if you guys would even know the difference... (I know I can't tell that easily).
[/ QUOTE ]
Well.. it's actually quite easy to tell which ones are the real new ones that are worth helping (giving them 100k, advice, etc..). If a level 1 with no vet badges asks where are the trams.. that's one that honestly knows nothing and needs help.
If a level 50 with 5 vet badges asks how to train to the next level.. do you think they're someone who honestly cares about learning how to play the game? -

...and what did they say to that, or were they failing to realize you had them
[/ QUOTE ]
They failed to realize I had been the one SBing and FSing them.. I only saw a few comments along the lines of "Why am I not moving fast?" and "Do they (the enemies) debuff damage?"
edit: I also left the team after that mish was done. -
I've had the unfortuneate luck to run across some bad teams of AE babies. One however remains memorable.
We're a team of 8, all 50, and running story arc missions (not AE) and doing fine. A few mishes in, the leader asks me where are my pets. I respond that I don't have any pets.
Big mistake/wrong answer.. this immediately starts the entire team ranting about what a mistake it was not to have a pet on a controller.. what a idiot I was for not taking a pet on my controller... I wait out the storm (having figured they must all be AE babies since only one of them had a vet badge), and calmly reply "I'm a mind control/kinetics controller.. there are no pets in the set." Then my speed boost and fulcrum shift "mysteriously" disappeared from my power trays ^_~. -
wouldn't you come into the problem of someone breaking the object before clicking on it? It could be done intentionally or accidentally with an AoE.

You want to add a feature to a game (that you play while sitting inside) that allows your character to stay inside?
[/ QUOTE ]
Nobody said you have to play this game inside.
[/ QUOTE ]
True. But how many people actually play CoH while sitting outside? I haven't taken a survey or anything, but I would wager a guess that the answer would be "not many".
[/ QUOTE ]
Yay for laptops? Although I'll admit that the touchpad can be annoying to use in battle. I have played CoH outside before (our router's wifi has a really good reach). Even better was the time I was camping and had my mother's satellite card.. The frame rate was laughable at best. -
