Just played this: a pretty fun adventure, with a lot of interesting tidbits. Would recommend, though not sure how this is a "romance"

Thanks for your comment on A Penny For Your Thoughts, PW.

Quote:Huh? I'm saying MM attacks are decent when you have a way to multiply that damage, which traps does in the form of acid mortar. DS attacks just make that more readily apparent. One problem: Demon Summoning's attacks mitigate and are a damage multiplier, so pointing at them and saying, "Hey, MM attacks are good!" is like pointing at Sonic Blast on a Blaster and going, "Hey, Blasters can de-buff really good!". This isn't to say some Mastermind attacks aren't good; Mercs, Robotics, and DS get decent attacks that also mitigate. However, Ninjas' ranged attacks are simply terrible, by comparison.
-
Got it thanks. Looks like I'm going to have to look into stealth for my own trapper.

Quote:Except the level 40+ game is going to be very far away, especially for someone who is still just starting out.for that are patron powers, at least they are either AEs or do some mitigation and worth of sloting too.
Quote:..... which will cripple the build in total. why bother with weak useless attacks that just eat your endurance?
Quote:VERY bad decision. that they most versatile skill of all traps. they mitigate damage, block doorway, deliver huge amount of damage over time, especially to hard targets cose they autohit. they basically godly. and which wonders they do if there 2 patches of them laying down nearly permanent....
If the difference of what... the less than 6 seconds of additional hold time 3 hold SOs is going to give you is a matter or life or death for you and your team, then something has gone terribly wrong. -
Wow looks like I'm late to the party.
I'll throw in my thoughts too though apologies if it has already been previously gone over or corrected from your last build post:
MM personal attacks: some people despise them, but I find that they do give me something to do after laying all my traps or while waiting for other powers to recycle. My advice is to take them and see if you like them or not, though keep in mind that they consume a lot of endurance, so you'll pretty much want to get stamina as well as slotting the attacks with endurance reducers if you can spare it.
You don't need 5 slots in Caltrops unless you are slotting for recipe set bonuses. At best maybe 1 slow SO to hit the slow cap and 1 recharge SO.
I would recommend 2 slotting both of the pet upgrade powers with endurance reductions. It helps decrease the downtime by quite a bit.
Be sure that the protector bots have at least 2 defence SOs in them. Not being hit in the first place is better than trying to heal the damage back.
I would go with Deacon's advice on the FFG and go 3 defence SO plus a karma -kb. They're good as they are still relatively cheap in terms of merit costs if you don't have much cash on you yet.
TB over repair as others have suggested. Alternatively you could think about taking aid other from the medicine pool, which you may find more useful than TB depending on your play-style.
You can probably get away with just slotting poison trap with 3 recharge SOs, as its main benefits are the -regen debuff and the "puking" animation it causes (which importantly to note is separate from the hold component of the power).
Detonator: it's a fun power, and I like it. Especially since sacrificing your own minions is so appropriately villainous. The best way to think about the power is that it's more like a nuke where instead of the endurance crash you just have to resummon a pet (you're still better off since you don't suffer the -recovery debuff like a true nuke). It is a skippable power however.
If you're not set on the Mu Mastery pool, I would recommend going Mace so you can pick up the scorpion shield. That power combined with the FFG and the protector bot's bubble should easily softcap you to smashing/lethal damage (i.e. hitting 45% defence) which will significantly increase your survivability. It's probably possible to hit the softcap with the resistance shield from Mu and thus giving yourself a much more well-rounded build, though it will take some experimentation with recipes sets.
Ultimately my advice is for you is to have a try with all of your core powers to see what fits you since you're still new to the game. What works for others may not necessarily work for you and all that. -
Quote:I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at here. If the stealth is just to allow you better positioning of your drones, then wouldn't just throwing in a range IO also work? The more stealth you can get, the earlier, the better. Stealth (SS+Stealth Proc) combined with seekers is one key point to breaking spawns. You can do it without the stealth, but the stealth makes it childs play. I really don't have enough stealth but can't figure out how to work in Super Speed, and I'm not that interested in this build anymore.

Welcome to the boards. Just so you know, you can edit a published arc and hit republish and you will retain the arc ID.
-
Quote:Wow that is good to know. Will that work with temp phase powers of does it have to be Ethereal?
If you go with the Concealment Set and get Ethereal Shift, your pets go Ethereal when you do. You can even summon more pets, or heal them while you're still Ethereal. It's just a total time out.
Enemies will still attack them, and they'll try to attack enemies, but nobody does any damage. Great if you're on a team that's about to wipe, because the enemies will often keep attacking your indestructible henchmen.
Edit: Just tested it and it indeed does. -
Did you mean you wanted to solo AVs, or just that you'll be planning to run into a lot of them via TF/SFs?
A Fire/ Corr with Traps/Rad/Dark all sound fine for your needs. Alternatively a perma-dom Mind/Fire is a force of nature onto itself, and will make MoLRSF laughably easy. -
This is great, nice job guys.
Here's hoping this doesn't get derailed into a "What do you mean I'm bad because I didn't take SB?!?!" I may not necessarily agree with every square* but the spirit of this game is in pure jest, so we should just relax and enjoy the show as it were.
*I totally agree that you'd be pretty crazy to not take SB. -
Quote:I can confirm that on my Thugs/Traps who doesn't have Caltrops, that Acid Mortar definitely drives the mobs wild to my annoyance.
I have seen this with other debuffs as well - stack enough -to hit (or have enough def that mobs never hit) and the AI can get into the same 'run away randomly' mode when HP get low. My traps MM's have similar problems which I suspect are due to the debuff from acid mortar although with caltrops added to the mix it's hard to be sure. I haven't specifically seen this ever happen after my fortunata uses psionic tornado but since she opens with it, then follows up with psychic scream and dart burst while things are bouncing around most stuff is dead before it gets the chance to try and run. -
Personally I aim for softcapped S/L on all my MMs, but my builds require the Scorp Shield and I take it you want to stick with GW as your patron.
I'd also think about sticking in the pet def uniques as it will stack with the Prince's natural defenses as well as your -tohit from Dark. Beyond that every build benefits from more recharge. -
The buffs stacks with itself. I cannot confirm but I do not think the debuffs stack with itself though.

If you're fluid on what the length of your arc is going to be, then I would say try going for 3 or less. The general consensus around the MA board seems to be that 3 or less is the most desirable for random-plays, as it makes your arc appear short--though in reality whether your arc is short or not will depend entirely on your map and objective choices.
-
When exporting from Mid's, you want to tick the option to export a data-chunk (either the 2nd or 3rd option works).
-
I would still take stamina. My Fire/Kin burns through his blue bar pretty quickly once he gets the Siphon Speeds rolling (not to mention Hasten and set bonuses). While it is probably possible that you can go without, I think it is far too convient of a power to pass up.
Archery is best for AoE with Fire being second, though you may prefer Fire as it has faster casting times, especially for the 3rd tier blast. -
Quote:My experiences were pretty similar: I bought my copy of CoX from the shops, not knowing that it unwittingly meant gating me to the EU servers without the ability to transfer to the US. Why should I had thought this was going to happen, when the closest game I've ever played that could be called a mmo was Guild Wars, which allowed me to play on the US if I choose so?
The explanation is pretty simple really. CoH was my first MMO and I didn't do much in the way of research. I'd never bought a game online back then - it was not common practice and I didn't even know it was available - the options I saw were importing a copy from the US (and paying import duty, yay) or waiting for it it appear at my local shop.
I've collected too much stuff, and know too many people on the EU servers to just up and move over to the US now, but ever since the whole debacle I've vowed to check that if any other mmo I play had the same player-punishing segregation then I sure as hell am going to make sure I'm going to be on the US servers. -
Quote:I would highly recommend fitting in the +res unique somewhere as well as the BU proc for the Assault Bot, I think you can take the end red. from your ffg and weave and you won't really notice (the real end drain I find is the upgrades really, which 2 50 end red in them can solve if you find that to be so).
I rejigged my build, I think this one is better suited to what I am looking for.
I would personally stuff the Acid Mortar with as many procs as I can since it fires faster than 10 second intervals. If you're only taking the Gaus set for the def bonus, it's actually a very minimal amount for S/L softcap builds (1.25% according to Mids), instead I would actually recommend just 5 slotting Adj. Targeting in place of that.
I find the seekers to be very handy for my (softcapped) thugs/traps myself, while I'm lucky if the prot bots on my bots/pd actually hits anything with them. I would recommend swapping out tactics for it since you've already maxed out pet accuracy anyway, and like I have previously said for Donna the S/L bonus from Gaus is very minimal at best. -
I've ran the red-side version one twice. First run was successful but was a slooooog. My 2nd run was with a very competent team, but in the end we couldn't out dps him before he hit his hibernate, and we didn't have the obligatory MM in order to stop it.
-
If you HAVE to get rid of your demonlings--and I really, really can't see why you should, then you should at least keep the 3rd demonling that deals out -res.
Therm will finally feel less of a buff-bot once you get your debuffs at 35 and 38 if that helps, though whether you can go without shielding your demons then absolutely, as they still rock a lot of natural toughness, though not potentially as much as bots or even thugs, as well as getting all those heals from you and that other liut pet.
The thing is you won't be pushing your demons as hard, and therefore being less readily able to do harder challenges compared to the guy who can be bothered to throw out buffs every 4 mins. -
I would imagine he can get his fury bar up to a decent point when fighting an AV.

Here is a VERY rough build of what I ran back when I ran as a hybrid type while levelling my bane. I'm not sure on your budget so I picked recipes that are reasonably affordable, the most expensive probably being the full set of Gaus.
I had a lot of fun running this, and did a lot of SF/TFs with it before finally respecing to a melee bane when I could afford softcap. The good thing about a hybrid though is that you don't need to be able to afford full softcap to get the most out of it. You're softcapped to range so just stick to taking pot-shots if things look a bit hairy.
The best way to describe the playstyle is probably "Huntsman with a big fruggin' stick". In a team you'll be raining down the aoe hell, and using you mace to beat down hard targets or using the kd in shatter and crowd control as a form of damage mitigation when melee mobs charge you. Though if you see a group of tightly packed mobs, don't be afraid to open with Cloacking Device + BU + Crowd Control either.Solo, you can just play stalker if you're running on x1/x2 difficulty.

This is a good idea for a guide. Admittedly I did skim it as well sorry, but maybe you can take that as a cue to be a little less verbose and get straight into the meat of it?
Most of the time I run using 4 simplified commands that are within easy reach:
1) Attack My Target - Depending on the pets this effects a half to almost all of my pets to focus on one target. Once I open up my aoe upgrades I usually command my pets to focus on the most central mob to maxmise the aoe volley, assuming there is no mob present that needs to be immediately dealt with.
2) All Passive Follow - I find this very useful to recall pets that are leaving supremacy (and therefore bg) range back towards me. Now obviously it would be better to instruct the individual stray pet in question, but I prefer this as it is a very quick with little fuss.
3) Full BG Mode - Don't need to explain this.
4) All Attack My Target - I use this when I have little to fear about my MM getting hit. My bots/pd mm uses this all the time in place of the selective version after hitting softcap.
Anyway, sorry for the thread hijack.
