Softcapped Pets?
I have a bots/traps with softcapped pets and MM.
The pets are softcapped to everything, except for the protectors since they only get one shield each. I have achieved this through FFG, maneuvers (both only three slotted), the +5% defensive proc, and two level 50 defense IOs in protector bots. That's really all you need.
The mastermind is softcapped to S/L/E through FFG, maneuvers, and the scorpion patron shield. No set bonuses required.
I've found that the protector bots start casting their shields on the first pet you've summoned, and they both go in the same order. They also recast as the shields wear off. Keep in mind that you and the protectors will only get one shield. Your protectors are then your only weakness, and unless you can get another 11% defense on them, they always will be. I don't worry about it myself, because they don't pull much of their own aggro (especially when I taunt like your sixth grade bully).
I can handle +4/x8 with bosses on particular groups, but typically run on +1/x8 because anything more just takes too much time.
EDIT: I guess I should provide some more direct answers.
1)You cannot monitor attributes of pets, but you can right click them and bring up the window. It'll show their attributes until you "clear target" or close the window.
2) There is no way for your bots/traps to slot the recharge intensive pet sets.
3) You can't. Again, in my experience, they cast them almost as soon as they wear off.
4) You pretty much covered it all already, but that is all you need.

I just wanted to pop in here and say thanks. I made some adjustments to the build you provided and had a lot of fun playing him today. It's neat to have the mastermind and all pets (except the protbots) softcapped as long as you keep 'em in the FFG pocket.
Bots are typically ranged so I had next to 0 issues fighting council and cot at +2x4. I would maybe lose 2 bots max when more than 1 group was aggrod in normally overwhelming situations. It was pretty slick.

A suggestion why not get Seeker drones they debuff the tohit of the enemy and they make awesome alpha takers fully slotted its like an extra 7% defense and some of them are stunned
Because the protbots have 'em and that's good enough. I could skip detonator but I get some sick pleasure out of turning a bot or two into scrap metal.

I would personally stuff the Acid Mortar with as many procs as I can since it fires faster than 10 second intervals. If you're only taking the Gaus set for the def bonus, it's actually a very minimal amount for S/L softcap builds (1.25% according to Mids), instead I would actually recommend just 5 slotting Adj. Targeting in place of that.
I find the seekers to be very handy for my (softcapped) thugs/traps myself, while I'm lucky if the prot bots on my bots/pd actually hits anything with them. I would recommend swapping out tactics for it since you've already maxed out pet accuracy anyway, and like I have previously said for Donna the S/L bonus from Gaus is very minimal at best.

2 slots additional for damage was a long time placeholder for damage procs. not sure if they still work, mine are definitely slotted with 2 normal dam enh. even if those small damage portions looks like weak at first glance they do considerable damage over time, 250 damage in total. why not use it? especially GMs or AV are known for ignoring fear component and therefore taking full damage from caltrops.

BTW: "hasten" is mandatory skill for any /traps user. take it asap.
seeker drones IMO are also mandatory skill for /traps, they are alphanuke eaters besides of their role as debuffer. mine are 6 slotted.

Enemies will still attack them, and they'll try to attack enemies, but nobody does any damage. Great if you're on a team that's about to wipe, because the enemies will often keep attacking your indestructible henchmen.
If you go with the Concealment Set and get Ethereal Shift, your pets go Ethereal when you do. You can even summon more pets, or heal them while you're still Ethereal. It's just a total time out. Enemies will still attack them, and they'll try to attack enemies, but nobody does any damage. Great if you're on a team that's about to wipe, because the enemies will often keep attacking your indestructible henchmen. |

I have a Bots / Traps MM at 50... now I have been looking into defense more now than ever and I love the challenge of softcapping with IO's, but here is where I am struggling.
I want to softcap my Mastermind and the pets.. big request I know, So i have a few questions I hope that someone out there knows the answers.
