  1. With Quick Recovery and Stamina, you will not run out of endurance. Slotting for recovery bonuses is wasted slots.

Luck of the Gambler global recharges sell for 100 million on a bad day. Right now, because of I19, they are selling for 200+ million. If you can afford to put those in your build, you can afford better enhancements, like Kinetic Combat sets instead of Smashing Haymaker.

Getting your defense soft-capped helps a LOT with damage mitigation. You can go for 45% defense, but I don't think that is in your budget, if it is even possible on a Willpower Tanker. Alternately, you can go for 32.5% defense so a small purple soft caps you. To reach that for smashing and lethal damage, slot more Kinetic Combats in your single-target melee powers.
  2. Look for some guides, especially in the sticky at the top of this forum. A lot of guides will have reccommended slotting for individual powers. Basic SO slotting is nowhere near as complex as putting together an IO set build. You get a lot more powerful, even with cheap IO slotting, once you get a decent build.
  3. I posted in a Katana / Regen thread. Search my posts for that thread to see a /Regen build that can stand well with defense. It basically involves taking a lot of recharge and cycling MoG, Shadow Meld, and Shadow Meld again.

    i19 Fire/Shield

Gaussian's is one of the most efficient slots per defense sets at 7.5% total defense for 6 slots. The only other set that gives more than 1% (vector) defense per slot is Blessing of the Zephyr. I'm not sure how to modify your build to use Gaussian's, though. Instead, I found a bit more recharge if you don't mind giving up on using Fire Blast. I also freed up a slot for a third Membrane in Active Defense so you can get closer to ignoring defense debuffs completely.

  5. My advice: your post needs more punctuation. Communication is easier when everyone speaks the same language. Written communication is easier when everyone follows the same rules.

I suggest looking at other builds before attempting to make your own. There are plenty of Shield Defense builds on these forums. Take any that have been refined to work well, then adapt it to work with Broadsword. After that, post it here to have it reviewed.

    Kat/SR totals

Your HP seems low, but probably because you forgot to turn on Accolade powers in Mids'. Is that recharge value with or without Hasten on? Another important thing to consider is your attack chain. If you want to run a high DPS attack chain, you have to figure out the needed recharge times.

It is difficult to give more advice without seeing the build. Try to post it here. In Mids', click on "Import/Export", then "Short Forum Export." In the window that opens, make sure "Export Data Chunk as well as a DataLink" is checked. Look on the right side and make sure "Official Forums" is selected. Then, hit Export and paste it into these forums.

If you think about it, though, you don't just hold your arm or leg out and wait for someone to run into it. You might take a step or two in order to do a jump-kick. That can easily clear ten feet.
  8. It all depends on if you are soft capped or not. If you are over 45% in all damage types without Maneuvers, then it won't do you much good to pick it up.

I would suggest focusing on PBAOE powers as a Tanker. Cones require you to leave the center of a fight, which is where you are supposed to be. They also take a lot of time to set up and to get back in the middle of packs of enemies. It is okay to use them when soloing, but let your teams do the cone AoEs when teaming. You are there to keep everything in a nice herd around you.

I assume you are Stone/Fire, since you mentioned you have Breath of Fire. Combustion has a great radius, and acts as a larg AoE taunt. Fire Sword Circle is great for damage and extra taunting. If you want another AoE from the epic pools, Fire Ball is a good one to add to your arsenal. Disruptor Blast is basically the same, except you only need to take one other power to get it.
  9. Damage has a cap that is fairly easy to reach with a kinetics on your team. Recharge is only beneficial if it helps you reach a goal, like getting perma-Hasten or doing an attack chain without pauses. Without knowing your build and goals, nobody can advise you.

This may be better to post on AT-specific forums.
  10. There are plenty of soft-capped Shield Defense builds on the forums. I don't have a BS build, but I could share my DM/SD build with you. However, I would need to know what kind of budget you may have, and any other goals for the build, like running the highest attack chain.
  11. Look for the DM/SD build help thread. It has information in it about the highest attack chain DM can do. Basically, you need a 2.112s recharge on Smite, 4.620s recharge on Siphon Life, and a 4.488s recharge on Midnight Grasp. Your build lacks those required times.

I would suggest aiming for 32.5% defense so you can soft cap with a small purple inspiration. I prefer vectored defenses rather than damage types, but either works. I think it is easier to slot for vectors. You can probably drop Shadow Meld and pick something else up, like Physical Perfection. Small purples are easy to get.
  12. I didn't "change" characters. I made two builds that weren't possible before I19. The extra pool powers allowed me to get both a Spines/Fire Scrapper and Dark/Fire tanker to 32.5% defense on melee, ranged, and AoE. I love being almost unkillable. Prior to I19, the characters were collecting dust without Stamina to make their endurance manageable.

    Bug with burn

I saw myself take 140ish damage when I pressed burn. I thought maybe the level 24 boss I was killing got a lucky hit, but now that I think about it, no critter 26 levels under you should be able to hit for more than 10 damage. It must have been damaging me.
  14. Moment of Glory is over-slotted in your build. It does not need defense to be enhanced. Its base values are beyond the soft cap. At most, I would put three recharges in it.

Other than that, I can't offer any advice without knowing what your goals are for improving the build for I19.

Nothing on the site tells me how many hp/sec a specific scrapper will get slotting 1 level 50 heal IO into health, and how much the same scrapper will get by slotting the regenerative tissue unique.

Hell, I can't even tell what the percentage bonus is from the IO. The site only says "Adds a {Boost.Attrib.Heal.Scale}% bonus to regeneration rate for 120 seconds." How does that translate into anything useful?

I also can't find the common IOs at all.

I really don't like that site and that's why I have never and don't think I ever will recommend anyone use it. I can't recommend anyone use something that I don't find helpful myself. The wiki I point people to all the time. City of Data, well, normally I follow the "if you can't say anything nice" rule.

(Snark coming partly from being on the last few hours of a 16 hour work day following a 14 hour workday and looking at another one tomorrow too, nothing against you and I do appreciate the attempt to help!)

@Umbral, thanks! Glad to finally know the numbers on that Performance Proc. I knew the "ideal" slotting for 2, 3 and 4 slots in stamina, but never before had a reason to think about just one. =)
You just have to know where to look for the information you seek. It was all there, between those two sites. City of Data is mostly good for looking up power effects and values. Paragon Wiki has everything else.

City of Data says Health gives 40% unenhanced regeneration on a level 50 Scrapper. Paragon Wiki says the base Health Regeneration is 5% of your maximum health every 12 seconds. Scrapper base hitpoints at 50 is 1338.6. A level 50 Heal IO gives 42.4% enhancement bonus.

From there, you can multiply Health's value by the value you intend to enhance it, while taking Enhancement Diversification into account. Then you need to figure out how many hit points your Scrapper will have at 50, after the build is done. Multiply the 5% hitpoints every 12 seconds by Health's enhanced value and you will have your number.

It is a lot more complex without Mids', isn't it?
  16. City of Data is a good place to look up numbers if you don't have Mids' available. Enhancement values can be found on Paragon Wiki.

Now mind you this is just the softcapping part. I used alignment and reward merits for Numina/Miracle uniques and am still working on my LoTG recharges, but the actual softcapping was managed with about 200 million or so.

Edit: Oh yeah and I got my 3% global def using AE tickets, months ago before the recent AE farming trend. The rolls for it are pretty cheap and you can still make some bank on the other recipes you get. Sometimes.
My price estimate was going by purely purchasing everything from the market, and not during this price spike while everyone respecs.

Merit rewards can save you a lot of inf, and they can make you a lot for putting your builds together. I saw LOTG global recharges selling for 300 mil. Two of those can more than pay for an entire build if you wait for the market to cool down after everyone is done respeccing. Patience is the key to not wasting influence on the market.

I suspect that the 27% + the greater regen is better than the 33.3 and the lesser regen. But the question is whether than loss is outweighed by the benefit in S/L.
That amount of defense increase is worth it. That puts you within one small purple inspiration of soft-capping. Here's why soft-capping is important:

Let's say you have 45% defense. Enemies will hit you 5% of the time instead of 50%, so you are basically taking 10% of the damage you would have otherwise taken.

Now lets say you have 40% defense. Enemies will hit you 10% of the time instead of 50%, so you are taking 20% of the damage you would have otherwise taken.

The second scenario is taking twice the amount of damage as the first scenario. Thus, you would need DOUBLE the amount of regeneration to make up for that.

Yes, but your damage taken went down more than 4%.

Previously, resistance was mitigating all but 23% of the damage. Now, resistance mitigates all but 19%. So, 4/23 = 17.3% less damage taken. Or you could look at it the other way: 4/19 = 21% more damage taken with your old build.
  20. It would actually be removing 32% of the incoming damage. Critters have a base 50% chance to hit. You just lowered that to 34%. So, 1 - 34/50 = 32%.

    SD/FM Build help

There are plenty of Shield Defense threads to look at. Most people will not spend 30-60 minutes making a build for anyone who asks because of the volume of people asking for builds. Look at the other SD builds and try to come up with your own. Then, people can help you improve it.
  22. The defense soft cap is 45%. Going beyond that only helps if you get debuffed. Shield Defense has the potential to ignore defense debuffs if you build it right. Otherwise, you are wasting slots and set bonuses on defense bonus that won't do you any good.

It would be a very good idea to attempt to obtain 95% defense debuff resistance, because your survivability depends on it. To do this, you must run ALL of the toggles available in Shield Defense. Also, you must get Active Defense below a 60-second recharge and enhance it with 2-3 Membranes and/or Enzymes. This may require you to get Hasten and a good amount of global recharge. If you just want a cheap build and don't care about dying when you get spammed by defense debuffs, then don't worry about going for DDR.
  23. Syntax42

    Softcap...GAH!

Soft capping a Shield Defense Scrapper is going to be expensive (~500 mil, minimum). Look at other /SD builds to get an idea of how to do it, then try to adapt those builds for MA.
  24. Combining both defense and resistance makes Tankers excel beyond what other ATs can do. Almost any AT can soft-cap (45%), or get to 32.5% (so a small purple gets them to 45%) defense in a few categories. The melee ATs can soft cap in more categories, especially if their powers include defense. Tankers can soft cap and have a ton of resistance to go with it, depending on the set they choose.

The difference in base values is significant. A Shield Defense Tanker can hit the soft cap on all positions without using set bonuses. That leaves the rest of the slots for them to focus on recharge, damage, and hit point bonuses. A Shield Defense Scrapper or Brute has to devote more than half of their slots to reach the soft cap, in most cases.

The true value of Tanker mitigation is when they combine defense and resistance. Stone Armor, Dark Armor, and Invulnerability are the three sets that have tons of resistance to go with soft capped defenses. I would actually rate them in that order for survivability and resistance totals. It should be mentioned that hitting the defense soft cap for Dark Armor is significantly more expensive than on the other two. A tanker that layers resistance, defense, and healing can survive a lot more than one who only uses defense. Take a look at Dech's Survivability Analysis thread if you want to see a quantitative analysis of survivability in different situations. The spreadsheet there is the easy way to calculate things.
  25. I basically soloed it on my Dark/Shield scrapper. I was teamed with a BS/Shield but he faceplanted a few times and I did most of the DPS and tanking. Honoree hits hard, so he killed me once with a couple lucky hits.
