Well it looks good to me.
* I like the +6 to hit kismet. One of the things that I feel KM is lacking is decent to hit.
*After playing KM to 50, I stuck with repulsing torrent as well......I like the animation too much. What's up with that Hami slotting tho? Did you click on the wrong Hamis? Personally I'd put in two acc/dam and one dam/range and save yourself a slot. I just used 1 acc....to hit occasionally knock something down....I dont use it for damage.
* I went with an APP range power instead of focused burst. Again I like the animation some times but it was alot longer than my Mu Bolt and shorter range too.
* You may not need all of those melee attacks but it does make for easy PS damage building. Your quick strike could either be replaced with Hasten...also saving you a slot. And adding recharge for your attack chain w/o QS filler. Or if you really want it, take that extra Hami slot and put some sort of Acc into QS. It seems low on ACC to me. (So is Concentrated strike btw). Personally I hate missing....even went with the +ACC incarnate.
* Am I missing something on Practiced Brawler? Would think you'd want a recharge in there.
That's all I got. -
I didn't realize that there was an issue hanging out there. I thought Stale was posting this year's Protector state of the union address. Before the additional was added by Stale, I thought it was dead on. I'm one of those forum and channel lurkers and have been observing for years. Protector is unique and feels like home.....after a few of the kids have left for college sort of thing.
Also put me in the category of using the channels for mostly practical purposes, not for everyday chit-chat. I've always been focused on my SGs and coalitions for that sort of thing.
I would like to add that I've rarely seen behavior that justifies forum/channel rage. Most everyone has been fine.....to me. We all do our own thing, in our own way. And chat, email, forum and tell intent OFTEN gets misconstrued.
Certainly I've seen behavior in-game that is unfriendly and I'll send you a tell if I think it's warranted.....at least to say...."not cool". Or perhaps to warn others...if its that bad.
Anyhoo......just thought I'd chime in -
Quote:I thought this was well put. I agree.Keeping with the more personal atmosphere in the threads I'm seeing today, I'd like to give another perspective to gaming on Protector, from my own viewpoint.
We're individualistic, yet appreciate the community we've formed.
We differ yet, for the most part can respect our differences.
We shun elitism in public, yet foster it in private with every team we handpick, every TF run we choose not to advertise openly.
We're (supposedly) low population, yet have some of the most knowledgeable folks around, and have one of the most active global channels in the game.
We have (really) good days, and we have (really) bad days. -
Hey man. I love my Ice Tank and really wanted to make another one (3 Ice/SS tank so far...dont ask. I also leveled up a SS/Fire Brute. I love SS with rage, FS and KB. But I am all rage-crashed out.
For some reason I hadn't thought of electric secondary....I dont know why.
Thanks for squarely placing in my vision!!!!
Loading up Mids now to see if like the build combo. -
Put me on the list for KB. Yes, I know it's great mitigation....for you oh spammer of Gale, Hurricaner of nicely bunched mobs, Mr. Energy Torrent opener, and Maximus Spreadicus.
Also on my list of Anti-Team toons......controllers or dominators who OPEN with large cone/aoe immobilizing powers. Making everyone's AOE/Cone/Aura powers less effective. Especially when they think they are somehow a major contributor of damage....but instead become aggro magnets so supports toons have to coddle you. FYI - everything doesn't HAVE to be fire-caged. -

Yes, Ice/ is fine on Apex/Tin Mage. I have done both a few times with my Ice tank (/ss) and was the only tank. I did learn from my first runs on each though. Notably, to bring Orange Insps with you for the tougher fights.
Apex: The Warwalkers are a breeze. Toughest part is the Hydras if you jump right in and tank them (as opposed to range killing them). Eat some oranges and make sure everyone is focusing on the pylons, not the enemies. First time I did this....went down like swiss cheese. Easy once you get the hang of it. Battle Maiden mish is pretty easy...as far as tanking if you keep aggro on you and avoid the patches of death (just like everyone else).
Tin Mage II: Two fights that hurt me. Director 11 can be nasty if you are getting all of the aggro especially since it's an extended fight with the ambushes, usually. I got smacked down the first time but with some proper uses of oranges (maybe some greens), he's OK now. Then is Neuron and Bobcat. Bobcat crushed me the first time. I was disheartened. Next time with loads of oranges, no issue.
Note that I built my tank around doing TFs now. I picked Soul Mastery for the sweetness of Darkest Night, Gloom and Dark Obliteration. After having an issue with Director 11 in the extended fight and Bobcat, I swapped Dark Obliteration and SJ for the Medicine pool. And I ate oranges. Those times when there is no healers, Hoarfrost isn't ready for the heal portion and I'm still taking damage, I can now pop Aid Self in the safety of my defense. I was resistant to it and didn't feel a tank should have to use it.....but I hate dying. It's an edge to get you over the hump in the harder fights especially when team composition isn't the best.
I have soft-capped s/l/e/d, 127% recharge, and perma hoarfrost...if that helps.
My ice tank is by far my favorite tank. -
Well I just started a level 16 rad/fire blaster and am pretty excited about the performance so far. AOE machine!
Tha s/l defense is surely gonna help but my main concern with what I saw on your build was endurance. Just not sure if all of your endurance measures in stamina, health, and consume are going to cover the toggles and high end powers slotted with Obliterations (which had low end reduction).
Just my two cents -
So if I use a spines/invuln with SOs only x8 on the demon farm, thats good for you?
-
Good points Seldon. I agree with you especially with exemplaring down.
Perhaps I should have also mentioned that I have started another Mind/Psy Dom (diff server) and am currently at lvl 33. It's been a noticeable change from those early days of suffering at early levels.
I like the new changes to doms and am not rushing to get to lvl 38. PSW will still be a nice addition.
I actually would have liked these changes to have been made back in the early days of PvP too.
I am looking forward to a new Ice/Ice and Grav/ dom.
I can still miss the old PSW tho. -
Well.....I was on hiatus during the Dom Revamp. My only dom was mind/psi (first one on Protector to 50, do I get a cookie?) and I'm glad I wasn't around for it.
I remember the long hard road of "eh" damage from Psi until PSW. It was the difference maker that made the set great. Yeah I knew it was too good to be true but it took a BEATING. I do miss it, still. -
1. Why the Ape emote (/em savage) with no Ape costume features? Strange.
2. When you select animal fur for your legs....and then say claws or hooves for feet.....there is no option for animal fur feet (just hairy).....hence a sharp contrast from fur color to skin color of claws/hooves.
3. There needs to be better option now for claws powerset. Either make some sort of animal claw customization OR allow for NO CLAWS (ie metal claws) and allow us to use monstrous gloves only. -
Local Man did a great job of explaining those storm powers and any synergies with Fire Control. I have leveled 2 fire/storms to 50 and am about to do it a third time (dont ask!).
True, its an end hog if you are pushing it. Let's not forget what you are getting for that increased end usage.
One of the top damaging primaries (if not #1) coupled with the top damaging secondary along with solid controls, very nice debuffs, and absolute mayhem if you want it.
I haven't PvP'd in a couple of years but it was a beast in base raids and zone PvP. Particularly Snow Storm.........slap that on em, drop the flyers, and watch them squirm.......very slowly as they try to get out of the freezing rain and away from Imps and the Nado! Good times! -
Nice work. I am curious if the -regen in Psionic Assault and the 2 big hitters for psi (haha) would compare with NO -regen but the fire attacks.

Quote:I agree with everyone else in the post except for "Mr. Let me refer to Mids and City Data". I mean......why even answer the post if you really don't know. Sigh.Ice Armor is probably the worst set in the game for PvE right now. It only gives S/L and E/N defenses, and only caps Cold resistance. It provides a very small amount of Fire and Toxic resistance. The self-healing is not reliable due to the long recharge. The defense debuff resistance is around 50%, which is not high enough to ignore heavy defense debuffs without consuming purple inspirations. It does have debuffs to reduce incoming damage, but the mitigation from them does not make up for the weaknesses of the set.
If you want to play it, go ahead. Any Tanker set can perform the role required of a Tanker. Teammates' buffs, your playstyle, and strategy can help overcome numerical disadvantages of any set.
Ice/SS works well together. Knockdown, Knockup etc....add to mitigation. EA is the perfect power to use during the rage crash. When rage crashes, your attacks are weak, you lose endurance, and if you do not stack rage, you lose some defense. Well.......since you dont really want to attack, use EA. It will replenish your end bar that just dropped and it will add defense which also just dropped. And kills a little time during the crash. -
Huh. I fall under that back after two years category. So......
Now my bruiser is gonna run into melee like he should have been doing two years ago. AND now all of my other ranged thugs are gonna run into melee too?? -
Quote:All IOs (no sets) lvl 35 or higher, 3 slotted resists in everything. Are you using SOs, IOs and/or Sets? How did you slot Energize? Did you take Lightning Field?
Energize is 3 recharge, 3 heal IOs.
Yes, have LF only four slots so far and no end drain slotted there.
To Brandx, no I do not use Power Sink offensively. I've seen that you use it so in other posts.....which is why I asked the question about end draining. I just thought I shouldn't have to rely on it......but I'm starting to think I should. Drain the minions and focus on the bosses type of thing.....let the aura and the occasion Burst take out the little ones. -
I have a lvl 42 Kin/Electric and so far I'm not feeling it with ELA. I'm IO'd out on resists and Energize with Hasten & Lightning Reflexes. I have tough as well. It just feels weak to me in comparison to almost any scrapper I've played to 50 (DM/DA, MA/SR, SP/DA, SP/INV, MA/REG). It almost feels like I'm doing something wrong. Energize doesn't seem to cut it. I'm set at +1 x3....which I dont feel is unreasonable for a scrapper. Anything less just seems boring and slow.
Am I to wait til I can add some def or should I be focusing on end drain with aura and power sink. I didn't think I'll feel this way at 42, but here I am. -
No worries. I'm not much of a FB person anyhow.

Heya Stalemate! Funny how I "chat" with you more in COH then on Facebook. lol.
Thanks to you and BP for the good channel suggestions. You may have seen @Dark Chaos or @Test Subject 36, those two guys are still quite active in Dark Fallen....although could have been a (very) random sighting of some other players. I should have mention Test Subject in my first post too.
And to answer your question. Not exactly. Wifey got relocated to AZ so I quit my job and now I stay with the kids! -
Thanks Major T for the info.
And HEYA Ice! Glad to see quality folks still about. -
Hello Protector,
Been away for almost two years and see that many of you still post regularly. Good to see some familiar names. Figured I throw out a few questions/comments and see if anyone wants to respond.
1. For those that may know me, some of my old names were Groovy, Hedonism, Mentax, Super Flu, Voodoo Nex, Chaos Nex, Hedonism Nex. Happy to say I got Groovy name back which was my second toon ever made back in June 2004. Dig it!
2. What global channel(s) would I find you on. It seems that some of the zones are a wee bit "light" and that finding the right global is the key to good activity.
3. I recently moved to Phoenix, AZ from Philly and just heard that they moved the International UFO Congress to Phoenix Feb 23rd - 27th 2011. It looks like it could be fun (plus its in a casino for fallback) so I am going to go. If anyone else was thinking about attending, let's get a drink or two. I've never made it to any other type of convention so it will all be new to me. Is it gauche to wear antennae and continuously say "Take me to your leader" at these things?
4. I wanted to say thank you to Dark Chaos and Saving Grace of Dark Fallen SG for hanging in there and keeping it alive. And very thankful to see some old friends pixel to pixel.
My new global is @Super Flu
Say hi if you want.
