I dont hate this game i love it and just dont want to have to find another game to play after four years of time spent here, but with the lead dev saying things like "no other content for issue 14" my hope fades

    [/ QUOTE ]
Posi certainly didn't say that, and there's no clear agreement on what he did say.

Which does make his statement a poorly thought out one, but doesn't make it the harbinger of Doooooooom!!! you seem to have decided to take it as.
  2. [ QUOTE ]
I'm relieved! What I was reading didn't make any sense. That wiki page should be edited

    [/ QUOTE ]
    There ya go!
  3. One of the "natural" natural combos is a Martial Arts/Willpower scrapper - minimal "super" fx, an OK single-target primary and good secondary that gives you the option of skipping the Fitness pool.

Maybe Super Reflexes as the secondary, although there you'll probably have to bring Fitness back into the picture.

    Edit: Removed now-redundant P.S.

    Was that a QR?

    [/ QUOTE ]

It was, indeed a QR. No specific slight intended to anyone.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I can get a bit twitchy as the day's coffee starts wearing off.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Not from the description you gave:[ QUOTE ]
Red names have admitted it could use a look at (it's actually two TFs they welded together when they found the early game's mission system couldn't support follow-on TFs), but as with many things it's a question of finding the time.

    [/ QUOTE ]

A beginning TF should not be double length and (from what I remember from previous discussions) boring as a week in Cleethorpes in January.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Indeed, but do a few things like:

    * Take out some of the "defeat all missions", especially the "investigate another substation"-type ones.

    * Move all the missions into Steel; this is less of an issue than it used to be with temp travel powers available, but the slog out to Faultline used to be a complete pain for the travel power-less sub-14 toons.

    * Change mob types, so large teams don't have face mezzing mobs before many melee ATs have had chance to pick up their mezz resistance powers.

    * Put a proper AV in at the end, to give the team a proper sense of achievement.

...and you'd have something of regular length and a lot more enjoyable - without needing to start over.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
To be frank, I've had to put up with Issues which contained, for example, PvP and the Arenas, which were of no use to me what so ever. If it turns out that the MA is of no interest to 80% of players (which I doubt), it will still have been interesting to more people than some of the Issues were.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Literally true, but even so "it won't be quite as uninteresting as something that was really uninteresting a few years back" is hardly a ringing endorsement.

With the release dates of various other superhero games drawing closer it wouldn't be good for NCSoft to be releasing "no content" Issues.

    [ QUOTE ]
Sense of perspective, please. (Kidding myself... Interwebz.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
Was that a QR? My post essentially said "that looks poor, but might not be that bad after all". Hardly a frenzy of wild dev-dissing.
  7. Debatable - IMHO it's certainly fixable without an outright replacement.
  8. [ QUOTE ]
No, it doesn't. What's wrong with it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's over-long, not at all exciting and very hard with a large, inexperienced team - all in all not a very good introduction to TFs for people new to the game.

Red names have admitted it could use a look at (it's actually two TFs they welded together when they found the early game's mission system couldn't support follow-on TFs), but as with many things it's a question of finding the time.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Once they've done that they kick you and solo the lot. More enemies means more Inf and Drops.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Although there's an obvious fallacy here, the same one that runs 8-man Invincibles in the Hollows because "u get mor XP" ("I made you a Karma +Knockback but I ated it") - what matters is not the amount of drops inside the doors, but the time it takes you to get to each one. Just as it's more efficient to street sweep blues and greens because you can chop them down quickly without ever stopping, it may well be more efficient to not inflate spawn sizes to a point where you need actual thought to beat them. It also obviously increases the rate of Pool B drops.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not always a fallacy - for a toon whose power sets mainly do single target damage, time needed to kill a group does scale more or less linearly with the number of mobs in a group.

If you can do lots of AoE damage, though (looking at you, Fire/Kins), pretty much the entire group falls over at once irrespective of its size.
  10. Hmmmm - on first reading I was very down on this; with further reading I'm still not convinced.

Still, if there was to be (say) an "Issue 13.5" which was only the Mission Architect, to be followed by a "full size" Issue 14 on near enough the same schedule as it would have had anyway, that would be OK.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
This validates the point I was trying to make.

You've picked up on the least important bit of the post.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I picked up the only part of the thread that's remotely objective - the introduction of a completely irrelevant topic you feel strongly about.

Attempting to argue the "they gang up"/"it's not a conspiracy" bit would be futile, as it's entirely subjective on each side; I know what you're saying isn't right, you insist it is, and hold fast to that position. What's to discuss?

Edit: Actually, my mistake - the first requirement for posting you thought "we" had was "You think the game is perfect and cannot be improved", and that can be objectively disproved. In light of this I guess I'll have to leave the angry mob.
  12. [ QUOTE ]
    4) You chant "there is no server population problem" over and over in the hope that it will brain wash the people who have a different point of view into agreeing with you

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oooh, subtle reintroduction of a completely irrelevant hobby horse. You're good at this.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
I'm getting bored of agreeing with you Standoff.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Oh no you aren't.

    (That help? )
  14. [ QUOTE ]
At the end of the day, it's not that our opinion matters much or anything at all, we might have a chance if in US forums and stuff... in fact, now that I come to think, if not servers, they could at least merge forums.

At least we can discuss opinions here and deal with job boredom, you know, world wide crisis and all that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Oh yes, I'm all for discussing what might happen, and whether this or that is a good idea.

At the same time someone not up on the background of things might stumble into a discussion, read someone saying "XXX will be the case in I13" and get completely the wrong end of the stick because they mistake it for a dev-level commitment.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Disclamers would be redundant. Everone knows what is said here is opinion.

    [/ QUOTE ]
There are different levels of confidence of opinion; for example all of the following:

"Some Base prices will be cheaper in I13"
"More Day Jobs will be announced soon"
"PvP will be very different in I13"
"PvP will be rubbish in I13"
"Rare recipes will cost more at the AH in 13"
"There'll be a higher proportion of science origin toons created in I13"
"Shields won't be worth using for Tankers"

...are opinion, in that none of them have actually happened yet.

Even so, in terms of likelihood they range from "bound to happen, barring major incident in test", through "my projection, based on experience", to "complete and utter guesswork".

As some things in I13 are in the "bound to happen" category, I find it worth adding "I think..." qualifiers to all the other categories, just to make it clear what's speculation and what's not.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I sent a tell and got no reply so blinded

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm genuinely curious as to the reasoning behind that. As I'd see it, someone not replying to a tell is a fairly strong indication they're either busy or not interested in teaming (or both), and in either case unlikely to want a blind invite.

In principle it could be a trial account unable to reply, I suppose, but probably not in Faultline.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Please direct me where it says that you are always On Patrol when you log off, even if you do it where a specific Day Job is (e.g. at the Tailor). It would not make a lot of sense thematically...

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's not 100% clear what they mean, but the most likely interpretation of what they say in this:

    [ QUOTE ]
In addition to all of the Day Jobs, every character is "On Patrol" after they log out of the game. When players log back into Paragon City or the Rogue Isles they will gain 1 bar of double experience (when defeating enemies) for every 24 hours they are logged out.

    [/ QUOTE ]
...suggest you get On Patrol benefits as well as day job bonuses, not "instead of".
  18. No, I read the post.

If extra xp is a problem for you, clearly earning xp isn't a priority, so switching the toggle and turning off gains for a while (or a long time) presumably won't be an issue.

Edit: Which is an aside from the eyebrow raising bit I was originally responding too, that On Patrol and/or the xp toggle is "the lamest thing [you] have read yet".
  19. [ QUOTE ]
This is the lamest thing I have read yet. Why cant they just ditch the thing and leave it as it is, or just have patrolling exp toggled off.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, ED, GDN, the I13 PvP changes and recently reversed APP/PPP power replacements all pale into nothing as compared to a bit of extra xp you can turn off if you want.

Sense of proportion ---> that way.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
I think you got the wrong end of the stick, this has dumbed bases down so far that if even a 1 man SG cant get what he wants, he aint trying hard enough.

Things do get progresively harder as you grow, its only going to be easier for big sg's because they have already put the effort in, not because it was given them free.

Its never been easier or cheaper for a small sg to get what they want as they grow than it will be in i13.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Couldn't disagree with that last sentence, give the cost reductions (some of them huge) that are on the way.

As a 1(-ish) man SG owner, I did feel that some of the costs involved before were way too large, though. Looking at plot sizes, and going from memory, the original prices meant that if you wanted to increase the initial size at all you were looking at a cost of 1.5 million. That's just to get up to the next largest size beyond the initial 8x8, rather than anything truly huge, and was more than a little daunting.

Similarly if you start wanting next-tier control or power (both rooms and the kit to go in them) you're suddenly looking at prices of the order of a million.

I'd have no problem at all with things getting progressively harder, or having top-tier stuff that really does need a good-sized "real" SG to afford, but as it was pre-I13 the sudden huge leaps in price tended to keep solo SGs stuck at the very bottom end of things.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
A CoH movie would probably end up being an embarressment TBH, and would end up being one of those movies ITV show at 12:30 on a weekday night.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Steve Coogan, pretty much doing a reprise of Alan Partridge, would do an excellent job of bringing the comic book States to life.

    [ QUOTE ]
I still can't recall a single decent Game -> Movie port. Tomb Raider is poor to average at best, and its probably the best of the lot.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Silent Hill's the best one I can think of.
  22. Harpy Birth Day Duncan - hope you had a good one!
  23. Standoff

    Multi - Builds

    [ QUOTE ]
If you really wanted, you could have a comedy build where you pick all the 'duff' powers and random power pools just for the hell of it. That could represent your toon's alter ego?

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, those will be the current builds I'll be maintaining - I'll play against type and go for a decent build with the secondary.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Hamidon Goo....for a BASIC TELEPAD?

So what we're 'making back' in prestige, we're losing in INF in the auction house - is that it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Erm, no - to rephrase what I said, to make a basic telepad you need:

Option 1: Clockwork Winder, Temporal Sands, Simple Chemical, Psionic Manifestation
    or
Option 2: Alchemical Silver, Symbol, Inert Gas, Black Blood of the Earth
    or
Option 3: Ruby, Destiny, Silver, Hamidon Goo

If you have Hamidon Goo handy and are already filthy rich, you can use it to make a telepad; otherwise either of the other two options are available, and likely to be much cheaper.

Not that I think the invention salvage elimination was needed, or even an improvement.

    [/ QUOTE ]

So someone has got to cough up then while the rest of the nameless SG benefits.

Then you should be able to buy such recipes with Prestige.

I can understand why Londoner and all of Smurfville are very disappointed. I'd want none of this Bull[censored].

I was hoping no recipes would be involved and its a simple case of buying and selling with prestige.

    [/ QUOTE ]
TBH I wouldn't have said the cost of salvage is a critical factor, as long as all the items have at least one option that skips all the outrageously expensive stuff.

Looking at the telepad example, I'd guesstimate you could get one built for a few 10s of k at the most. So that'd be a few hundred k total, to build pads for all zones hero side. If you've put in the effort to actually earn the prest for the rooms, power and control you'd need to host those pads, a few hundred k of inf won't even be noticeable.

Although there is still the baffling question as to why they needed to change away from the old system in the first place. I'll assume they didn't just do the work for the sheer hell of it, and it makes sense as part of a larger whole we haven't seen the rest of yet, but I have to admit it does look very gratuitous at the moment.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Well Merits has disgouraged me from TFs at the moment, grinding for assured income I can already do. The random element I liked.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Remember, there is a "pay smallish number of merits, get a random recipe" option in the new system. For if you really miss all those Pacing of the Turtles.
