It's the ability to form new level pacts that is being disabled until a new system is implemented.
  2. I bought the origins bundle as well as cape and auras from L1, the origins capes are availible to my new toons but the origins aura's are still locked while the standard ones are availible.

Well, it does clearly state that level pacts will be availible during the head start and disabled after the head start has ended.

However, after you enter your password and click login it just hangs. After about a minute, you get the error message telling you the game can't connect to the login server. So, the game is down and not accessable right now.

I just wish the error message at the NC-Soft launch window would say that. That pop-up error window is something I have never seen, and its a bit confusing.

yup, that's what i'm getting too, and looking at the "Error during last operation" tread in this forum, seem there was a maintenance happing a little while ago, though i se no notification of it anywhere.
  5. Getting the same, also getting an error about the update server, and forcing launch loads the game fine but then comes up with unable to connect to the login server.

Also posted that int he "NCSoft Launcher Issues" thread in the board too.... think that might be related.

Did look for any notification of maintenance and didn't see any, so that's a bit of new information i didn't know, so it may be that that the login and update servers are down for maintenance.
  6. Ok, i am now getting this error, as is my GF.

About an hour ago i tried to log in and got the message "the game client was unable to connect to the login server."

So got the GF to try at her place, and she got the same thing. Tried a couple of time since and still got the same.

Then 10 mins or so ago she tries again and get's an error in the launcher "Unable to contact game patch server.

Please check your internet connection or try again later.

If you want to skip the update step, force a launch using the right-click menu on the game list or main button.

    Error Code: 36 (PatchServerCommunicationError):

Patch server communication error while performing operation:

    Getting Current Version"

I tried and got the same thing.

The game start when clicking force start, but still unable to login to the game.

Not a very good comparison at all. My fave band happens to be american. The gap between their last 2 UK was 13 years. But then again, I don't send the boys in the band, or their management a mothly fee each and every month to listen to their music. And when they released their new album last year I didn't have to download it on line or import it to own it because they released it in the UK and the rest of europe too. And when I pay for one of their albums or peice of merchandise, I get no more or LESS than anyone else in the world as I am paying more or less the same amount for them.

I by no means claim I am entitled to a better service than the US. But do feel I am paying the same amount for a lesser service. I'm not entirly sure a server list merge would solve the problem, as all that would do is spread the existing player base out a bit more and no-one would see much difference. Yes, the EU players would get access to the NA servers while (for the most part at least) all the NA players are tucked up in their beds or off to work/school/college, as Samuel_Tow has already demonstrated but that is only going to make a miniscule difference. EU needs marketing. Players can't be expected to play the game if they cannot find the game. The past few years I have been playing I have seen players leaveing through one thing or another (AE farming, PvP "Nerfs" etc) and with no advertisement/promotion over here mean that they aren't being replaced with new players. About the only time I have seen CoX in any form of media over here is seeing CoX posters/stands and such in the background of the comic book store in The Big Bang Theory.

A hero would stop the Resistance Member from planting a bomb, to save the civilians. He just did something evil however as he helped the Loyalists.
This just doesn't work for me. Helping the loyalists does not neccercarily mean you are evil. Remember Preatoria is built around Emporer Cole's Propaganda machine. Hero A Could believe that propaganda and help stop the resistance from planting the bombs that would kill innocent civilians. This doesn't make him evil just because he helped an evil ragime. His ends may have unwittingly had and ultimate evil outcome, helping Tyrant, but to him he was protecting the innocent, an act of good.

I'm sure if GR Is going to work as you predict the missions would be more obvious you are doing evil while working with the guys who claim to be the good guys.

How I think they will work though is, there will be acts of "Good" and "Evil" on both sides, as that is basically what GR is about isn't it? The shades of grey. Heros doing evil and villians doing bad and such. So I would expect that there will be loyalist missions that will boost your good stat while some resistance missions boost your evil stat. Like taking part in your example mission, planting a bomb in a public building which would kill innocent people. Your working for the good guys, but performing an evil act by killing innocents!

So, as to the OP's question, it can be any combination. Performing act's of good with an intent for evil is still evil. As is performing acts of evil with the intent of good... the ends do not justify the means. Even performing good for good intents could enable an evil outcome. Killing an evil tyrant to save the world could allow a worse tyrant to take his place and make things even worse than they were.
  9. I too was first made aware of CoH back around 2005 due to it's shelf presence, unfortunatly back at that time I was not in a position to afford additional monthly fees (especially as the cost of those monthly fees wasn't listed on the box, but that's another matter), but I kept it in mind thinking "I want to play that game!". In the interim I contented myself with the subless Guild Wars, which I quite enjoyed. So unlike Shadowe I wasn't willing to risk may £30 at that time for a game I may have only been able to play for one month. But then, at christmas 2008 PC Zone had the delux edition as a free cover disk. I bought it, I played, I loved it, and before my free month was even up I had to go out and hunt down the GvE edition, which wasn't easy, finally found a copy in a branch of HMV, well to dut a long story short, I haven't looked back since. I've bought all the boosters, 3 lots of extra character slots to the extent of running out of room to make toons on defiant.

If it hadn't been for that shelf presence I probably wouldn't have known about the game let alone be playing it now. Although I wasn't bothered about a lack of a box edition for MA for GR, I am, for all the reasons stated here, but mostly for the box to proudly display on my games shelf and any maps etc included in it, and for the updated install disk meaning that if I ever have to re-install again (Like I had to do recently after a new OS install) it will mean less patching before I can get in-game.
  10. Had this happen frequently to me. Healing does work, but it has to be a direct heal, not an AOE. Also had the upgrade disapearing one happen too.

I also reported a minor exploit too, if you have pets die on the way to a mission, or zone crossing, resummoning them before you zone without upgrading them as long as one pet has the upgrade (eg. didn't die) all pets are upgraded after you zone.
  11. I've got a human/alien magical girl/senshi toon, and she is a fire/ice troller and seems to be doing well so far. So I'd agree that most troller or fender sets would work well.
  12. I don't know if this will be helpfull for you or not, but I recently got a rather cheep gaming lazer mouse with 5 dpi settings switchable from the mouse itself. and when i hit the buttom and switch to the highest dpi setting I can turn 1080 degress with small movements of my mouse. Don't really use that particular setting in the game but being able to switch the mouse sensitivity like that may be more helpfull to you in the long run as you could turn fast when needed and switch down to a lower sensitivity for more presission movements without playing around with slash commands.

    Input Lag?

ok, had a fiddle with my ariels a little then logged in and done a lap of atlas with NR+sprint from WW's to the east war wall then around the war wall and back to WW's and this is my results.....

    Duplicate in : 21
    Retransmitted : 7
    Lost in : 20
    Ping of around 155
    send around 690-740
    recv around 1620-1950

Plenty of spikes in the graph around the time of the lag spikes with red, yellow and green spikes on the bar.

I know this isn't good, but they were less often than the last time i was in game!

My signal strength to the router is showing as excellent.

    Input Lag?

it may be to do with your network card rather than anything else. I just upgraded from a G mode USE adaptor to an N mode PCI card, th game loads faster an the market opens up instantly rather than freezing the game for a coule of seconds before opening, and i'm getting terrible lag/rubber banding. unfortunatly, not sure how to solve this as yet,
  15. Why bridge the connection, use internet connection sharing instead. Just go to network connections on the laptop, right click the wireless card that connects to the router and choose properties then the sharing tab and tick the check box. Simple.

I tried using the bridging thing to get my PS2 online ages ago, and yes, it does prevent the machine that contains the bridge from getting on-line as it's being used as a through connection only. Think of it this way, the NIC is a tube. One end is connected to the router the other to your laptop. when you bridge it you connect the end attached to your computer to the other network card on your machine. ICS is like putting a splitter adaptor on the computer end.
  16. I just upgraded from a G mode USB wireless adaptor to an N mode internal PCI card as the USB adaptor seemed to be on it's way out giving very poor connection speed. The new internal card is giving a much better connection overall enabaling much faster up and down load speeds, but in gave I'm experienceing a lag and rubber banding a lot more often. The WW/BM interface opens much quicker and maps load a lot faster than before, but my new found lag is making things hard to play at times, frequently hitting lag spike while legging it past +2/3/4/5 mobs and snapping back on low health or dead.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do or how I can test the card to make sure it's performing ok?
  17. I've had a similar issue on a completely seperate map going back to when i first joined the game (around 2 years ago) and that's the map for the mission where you fight saptain castillio for the firts time.

Start off outside and rescue Doc D, then up the lift and in the crooked building. While inside there are several places where the entire building disapears and you can scout out the placement of the mobs, who are are just floating in mid air.

Must try to get a cap of this to show what i mean!
  18. yeah, i noticed this the other day too, during the day, in an area i've been in loads of times... was on the vahzilok wasting desease arc at the time so just assumed it was something connected to that.

Ah, but doing that would miss out the 2 free L1 damage enhancements I believe!
  20. Thank you, that is a lot of help, as I said, am a novice with mids and building like this so was unaware what the soft cap was and assumed mids with flag it up like it does with other thing, but it didn't.

Sometime I seem to come up with builds that work, sometime I end up with what i had here, something that was on the right track but just not quite there yet. This has been much more help to me than star_seer's sugestions, no offence meant there, as everthing he(she?) suggested seemed to be breaking the rule of 5. Your build seems very workable for me, though may have to replace those nice looking purple sets with cheeper eqivalents till I can afford them.
  21. I've started leveling a spider with the aim of going the Crab Spider route at 24. The idea I'm going for is a non-squishy blaster type toon, but being a novice still with mids I could do with a little help. Survivability seems fairly solid but I am concerned about the end use/recovery as well as the damage output. I've not taken a travel power as ninja run will do this particular toon fine on it's own and i also have sands of mu vet reward for that extra melee damage if needed. Oh, and the build is designed with leveling in mind rather than respecing at a later level.

    Well, here is the build.

  22. Manm i wish I knew about this before, Just done that mish with my L35 Ninja stalker, rescued GW, noting she was an L40 AV, then ping, ambushed by L40 EB and LT (at default settings) and was like WTH as GW went down fast! Something needs to be done about this! Either the ambush needs changing or the level SA offers the arc!!

This isn't always the case, on my NRG/NRG blaster I have just a couple of seconds between hastens and with conserve power slotted for recharge in long battles I hit hasten then blast away till my end gets to 1/4 then hit CP and it regains my end faster than i'm using it so that by the time it wears off and i get back to about 1/4 end it's ready to fire again.

So, 18 animations. But it's not that simple. 18x2 for standing or flying = 36. 36x3 for body types = 108.

So 108 different animations JUST for AR/MM that would be necessary.

108 MORE animations for Archery (because Archery and Assault Rifle are not the same combat mode)

108 MORE animations when Dual Pistols comes out (because Dual Pistols has a different combat mode yet.

324 animations just for Mental Manipulation paired with AR, Archery, or Dual Pistols.

324 x 6 to silence the people who will complain that MM has no redraw but everything else does = 1,944 animations.

1,944 animations that need to be done. By hand. Just to remove redraw from ONE AT. That's a ridiculous amount of work.

Then add a whole helluva lot more when people complain that blasters don't have redraw, but every other AT still does. You're looking at upwards of 20,000 animations that would need to be done by hand to remove redraw from the game.

I'm just guessing here, but if they decided to do that we wouldn't see anything new for at least a couple years.
I think you missed the point of what I was saying. MM is a mental power, arms and legs, or any other part of the body need not move. Just do 1 set of animations that can be used reguardless of wether a weapon is in the hand or not. Not one for each weapon, because thematically, all you need to do is look at your target to "Think" your power to work.

So a power anim that is more VFX than animation could be used across all combat modes rather than one for each!
