bridge LAN connection with wireless?

I know it can be done because I have had it working several years ago but I am trying to use my laptop's wireless connection to get my main machine on line. my main computer is too far from the router to run a cable so instead I networked my main computer to my laptop via a standard ethernet cable between the two (no router between them).

the network is up and running allowing me to share files between the two computers. On my laptop, when I try to bridge the LAN connection to my wireless connection to allow my main comp to go online then not even my laptop can go online. I know it has to do with firewall and the TCP/IP but when I try to enable the TCP/IP on the LAN connection I lose internet. turning off the firewall seems to do nothing and the only reason I turned it off is because of stuff I have read on line at microsoft's website.

Why bridge the connection, use internet connection sharing instead. Just go to network connections on the laptop, right click the wireless card that connects to the router and choose properties then the sharing tab and tick the check box. Simple.

I tried using the bridging thing to get my PS2 online ages ago, and yes, it does prevent the machine that contains the bridge from getting on-line as it's being used as a through connection only. Think of it this way, the NIC is a tube. One end is connected to the router the other to your laptop. when you bridge it you connect the end attached to your computer to the other network card on your machine. ICS is like putting a splitter adaptor on the computer end.

THANKS that worked perfectly! I will still need to get a wireless adapter though as the internet is sluggish being shared as is but this will get me tied over till then. thanks again!
