I've got a Mercs/Storm MM I'm planning on having switch sides when GR comes out. He's basically a former henchman who took his boss's weather control device after he got caught to use it himself, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch from rebelling against his former evil boss to rebelling against evil in general.

Out of the presents I got, the major one was a new Nintendo Wii. Now, if I could just figure out how to set it up properly...

It's not random. To quote the Wikipedia article on Swiss Tournaments
Quote:The principle of a Swiss tournament is that each player will be pitted against another player who has done as well (or poorly) as him or herself.
The first round is either drawn at random or seeded according to rating. Players who win receive a point, those who draw receive half a point and losers receive no points. Win, lose, or draw, all players proceed to the next round where winners are pitted against winners, losers are pitted against losers, and so on. In subsequent rounds, players face opponents with the same (or almost the same) score. No player is paired up against the same opponent twice however.Quote:The tournament lasts for a number of rounds announced before the tournament. After the last round, players are ranked by their score.
Quote:Compared to a knockout tournament the Swiss system has the inherent advantage of not eliminating anyone. That means that a player can enter such a tournament knowing that he will be able to play in all rounds, regardless of how well he does. The worst that can happen in this respect is being the player left over when there is an odd number of players. The player left over receives a bye, meaning the player does not play that particular round but receives a point. The player is reintroduced in the next round and will not receive another bye. -
I'm about to make my third attempt at playing a Peacebringer, and I think the thing that's kept me from sticking with one is dealing with slotting for the alternate forms, since the powers of the forms need to be slotted separately from the other powers. Taking the forms results in having anywhere between 4 to 10 more powers than a base AT build does. While that can be an advantage, you don't get any extra slots for those extra powers, and I find myself wondering how I'm going to adequately slot them.
This time, I think I'm going to go with a human-form Peacebringer and just not bother with the forms. -
I'm in Philadelphia watching the snow fall, too. I still have some Christmas shopping left to do, and this won't be making it any easier.

Loos like we're not the only server that's down. And of all the times to crash, it had to happen just as I was starting the AE arc.

Quote:This is pretty much how I see my roster of characters, too. I tend to think of my villains as the Rogues' Gallery of the "Spectre-verse", and I do enjoy making story connections between them, like I did in my last AE arc for example.Well, I don't think all of my characters would be connected, just cause I play them, but all of my characters on Infinity are part of my "Pepverse" storyline. =^_^=
And in response to synthozoic, global handles default to the name of the first character you create can only be changed once after that, barring the times the devs give everyone the opportunity to do so again, like when they introduced the Mission Architect. It's similar to the way they grant everyone free respecs when they make major changes to how powers work. -
Quote:That's pretty much how I use the vault, too. When I need to get somewhere in a hurry (like a TF I want to join is starting soon) and have a lot of salvage on me, I'll just throw it in there until the TF is over, then pick it back up and sell it when the TF is over.I mainly use the Vault when I log onto a character I haven't played in a while to join a TF, say Citadel, for example, and I discover that I haven't sold off all the salvage that dropped on the last TF - oops!
So I go dump stuff that I will want to keep in the conveniently located Vault in Talos, to be picked up after I finish the new TF.
Yes, I frequently don't immediately go deal with the drops I get on each & every alt - sometimes, I am ready to log off (long day of play), sometimes, I'm just being lazy. But with 60+ alts, I frequently store salvage on the character to be used by my crafters for each SG (I have 5 in all). I'm sure that made someone twitch when they read it
I'll also use it for temporary storage of salvage I need to craft IO's while I go to the market to get the rest of the salvage I need and sell what I don't. I don't really use it for long-term storage, though. I usually don't bother with even common IO's until a character is in its 30's, when they become equal to SO's in effectiveness. Until then, I sell every piece of salvage and recipe I get except for temp powers, or costume pieces or unique recipes I want. Then by the time I'm at the 30's, I'll have enough inf to buy what I need at the "buy it now" prices because people have been buying from me at the "buy it now" prices. Thanks to how the market works, I don't even have to have a high asking price to sell them at high prices. -
I was in a similar situation once when I was in college. I got attacked over a seat on a crowded bus. At least that was what he said right before he tried to physically pull me out of it, then gave me a black eye and a bloody nose for resisting, but I personally think the punk just wanted an excuse to use a total stranger as a punching bag. After I came to class the next day with that black eye, a friend taught me the key-claw trick mentioned by others in this thread.
I also agree that this game can be therapeutic. I've blown off a lot of steam over personal problems over the years I've been playing, whether through talking about them with the friends in my SG, or the catharsis of combat. Like when my father died from gallbladder cancer this past summer. During the final months of his life, he was in and out of the hospital several times, and that was difficult for our entire family, especially as time went on and his condition worsened. City of Heroes provided some much-needed stress relief while I was going through that. -
I haven't used the walk emote/power much myself. I'll occasionally use it when I'm in the presence of RP'ers (like walking up to Father Time instead of running during the Winter Event preview), or when I'm on a female character in an instanced area by myself to watch her move around and indulge in the fanservice.

Personally, I've visited the zones before to do some PvP'ing when they first came out, but I don't usually go into them these days. I like the concept of PvP, but just got fed up with the attitudes many zone PvP'ers have, so most of my PvP'ing is now in the arena, and I don't even do that very often anymore.
Now, when I was in the PvP zones, my attitude was that I didn't have a problem with people being in the zone who aren't interested in PvP. But I would still attack them on sight regardless of their reasons for being there, and I would expect them to defend themselves, even if that defense is to flee. After all, the rewards there are balanced around that fact you must risk being attacked by other players to get them.
The PvP'ers are well within their rights to attack anyone who ventures into their territory, but by the same token, those not interested are within their rights to choose "Flight" instead of "Fight" as their response. I'd consider it a victory to send someone fleeing to their side's base, and as others have pointed out, they'd consider it a victory to make it back there in one piece. It's only if they choose "Whine" as their defense tactic that it becomes a problem, since they knew the risks when they came in. -
I remember when the Sonic Resonance set came out, the colors on the buff powers actually was causing some people to get sick, so they changed them to the gold-ish orange that's the current default. With players now able to choose their own colors for their powers, it's possible that there would be certain combinations that could cause sickness like Sonic Resonance's old defaults, though I haven't heard reports of it actually happening. Maybe the devs screened out the potentially seizure-inducing colors before I16 went live, but I can't say for sure since I'm not a dev.

That has nothing to do with level. It has to do with the origin the vendor specializes in. The Mutant enhancement stores will pay more for Mutant enhancements than for enhancements of other origings, for example.

In cases like that, the highest of the defense numbers is the one that applies. Like if you had 10% defense against ranged and 20% defense against energy, then you would have 20% defense against a ranged energy attack since that is the higher of the two.

The mobs I hate the most are the ones that "cheat" in some way. I don't mind difficulty in the enemies I fight, but I do hate it when they play by different rules. Namely, Carnival Illusionists. We can't attack while phased, so why can they?
That and Rularuu Eyeballs, because they have enough accuracy to punch through most defense like it's not even there. Doing Technician Naylor's Shadow Shard arc on my Energy/Energy Stalker was one of the most painful experiences I've had in this game. -
I'm thankful that I have a stable family to spend Thanksgiving with, and a stable job in these tough econimic times. I'm thankful for this game that I've made so many friends through, and has given me a release for the frustrations of life.
I, too, have lost a family member this year. My father passed away over the summer from gallbladder cancer, and even though there will be one less seat at the table this year, I am grateful for the time I did get to spend with him, knowing that not everyone is lucky enough to have a loving family, and I am grateful for my family members who live on and have been there for me.
Happy Thanksgiving, heroes! -
For me, I always imagine Mr. Bocor having a cajun accent.

This is the second arc I have created using AE, and my first attempt at creating a custom group. I have all of the custom critters in the group set at Hard for both primary and secondary set except for the AV at the end, who has both sets at Extreme. So, I'm posting a thread for both to publicize my creation and for feedback. I hope you enjoy it! -

Lag issues aside, I've enjoyed the new zone event. I like how it's more than just beating back hordes of enemies. I do understand the complaints about lag and the GM being too easy to take down, though.
As for the other things, there does come a time when they can get tiresome, but at that point, I can always just go back to the regular gameplay and let everyone else have their fun. -
Quote:My thoughts exactly. I showed a girl friend (not a girlfriend, though I was hopeful at the time) this game when she came over to visit once, but nothing really came of it, in terms of her getting into the game or getting into a relationship. The old "I value our friendship, but don't think we'd work as a couple" line. But I've known her since high school and I value it too, so I couldn't feel too bad about it. But it's still back to the drawing board.Hmm sounds like a good idea to get a girl friend to play this game... now i just need to get a girl friend
Maybe when I get an actual girlfriend, this'll be something we can do together. I'll just try to not have my main parked in the Virtue server's Pocket D when I show the game to her for the first time. -
The 7-year-old computer I am making this post from is reaching the end of its lifespan, and I'm now in the market for a new one. I'm mainly looking for a new rig that will run this game more smoothly than the one I have now. As it stands now, the recent memory leaks are enough to easily overwhelm it, slowing me to a crawl and frustrating my teammates.
So basically, I want to know what kinds of specs I should be looking for, what the "recommended system requirements" are for the game as it is now. RAM, Hard Disk Space, Processor, Video Card, that sort of thing. I've done some upgrades to the computer, but it's reached the limits of how much it can be upgraded and I still find myself slowing down in hectic situations, and something like a Mothership or Hamidon raid is out of the question for me.
Also, when I get this new computer, how do I go about transferring the game from the old one? I'm told that there are software programs that take care of transferring important files from one computer to another. At least that's what the people at Dell said when I called them.
So, what do you guys think? What kinds of things should I look for in a new computer to run this game smoothly as it is today? -
I've had some difficulties with this as well, but up until today it has been bearable. But when I logged in my Dark/Stone Brute to go customize his armors, I loaded the new window and chat settings I'd been using onto him, and when I left the Port Oakes arena where I'd last logged him out to make my way to the Facemaker, I was greeted by a slideshow once I got out the door. You see, my current 7-year-old computer is on its last legs. I'm seeing quotes of around 2 to 9 GB of RAM, compared to my pathetic 1 GB. In other words, the increases in memory usage being mentioned are enough to paralyze my rig entirely. Which is one of the reasons why I'm now looking for a new computer. But that's a topic for another thread.

I rolled an Ice/Cold Controller the other day, and she's currently at Lv. 12. She's been having some endurance isssues, but keep in mind she only just reached the level where I can buy DO's. I went with a white and light blue scheme for her powers, which has worked quite well, especially with her shields being a lot more transparent and less obscuring than the default colors.
Although Arctic Fog looks terrible in the new colors I chose for the rest of the powers because you can clearly see the straight line where the effect starts flowing down from her waist. It's very unnatural looking, like a skirt made of fog flowing out of a hula hoop hovering around her. I'll have to play around with the effect for that to make it less visible, or hope the devs adjust the effect to be seamless no matter what colors are used. -
Quote:I've read that it was actually impossible to beat Battletoads with two players because of a bug in the Clinger Winger stage. The second player couldn't go past the first and would always get eaten by that technicolor orb thingy that was chasing you. I've never gotten that far with another player to see for myself, though. When I beat the land speeder stage of battletoads (Solo, dear god never in two player) my friends watching and I cheered like we had just won the Super Bowl or something.
Then I died in Stage 4.
I've watched speed runs of Battletoads and seeing how little of the game I actually got through frightened me.
