Reading through this.. Why do people getting annoyed about pets getting in their way? Personally I love MM's cause their pets can draw aggro while I blast foes to bits. Even playing with a melee character I've never had any problems with 3-4 MMs on the team with bots. It's nice to have a wall of meat which you can Ninja Run Backflip over when you're getting low on hp

Hihi
Do you guys think that it would be possible to create a speed gimmick toon (not trying to make a Flash or Quicksilver rip off) with powers like Super Speed, Flurry, Hasten and Whirlwind and so on. Is there any possibility that you could make it work?
The character will not have any ranged attacks. Only speed stuf. -
Quote:Whirlwind as a gimmick for a super speed based character (like Flash) is cool. It's just a shame that it's not that good pulled off in the gameWhirlwind isn't on the list yet? Does anyone use it?
I know people use to pick it up late as a ghetto version of a costume change emote, but once we got those for real I haven't seen a single person use this. -

Quote:I've read it I think you misunderstood me.Yeah, you know that pop-up window that appears when you log into the game?
I take it you closed it without reading it?
Sorry, without sending someone to your house to read it to you, I'm not sure what more that they could do.
Here I have an example about information handling; the guide to powers on cityofheroes.com.
Scream
Your Scream can cause serious damage to a target, while weakening his resistance to further damage.
Damage: Moderate (~DoT), Recharge: Moderate
Available at level: 1
'DoT', I know what DoT is but just for a second I will act as a potential new player that want to read up about the game before considering try it out. He/she has never played an MMO before in her/his life. I can't access the forums, I don't know about the wikia.
There's no explanation on what DoT is on that page. No footer or anything. How will I as a new player know what DoT is? My other guess would be that as a european who doesn't speak english as his first language it may or not be clear. But wouldn't it be nice with a explanation right there? And say that I am a european and bad at english shouldn't the language be written so it's easy to understand? While you do not have the same problem with handling long text on the web page as you have in the game why not just call it 'damage over time' to clear out misunderstandings? You can even write it like this in a sentence: "damage over time *(~DoT)" and explain in the game why you can't use dual pistols without a pre order code. Minor complaint but you get my drift. Not user friendly.
It's not about the people who are currently playing the game, it's about the people who are new to the game and to the mmo genre. And that's what I mean with not being user friendly.
Other then that this is a great game with a lot of potential. Work on the presentation and the introduction and it would be even greater. -
Quote:I like this idead though I have no idea how you would make this work. Another thing that I've given some thought lately (and probably have been discussed before) is: that it would be nice if super strenght characters could utilize their strenght in other ways as in; lifting cars and throw at enemies, rip down light posts (don't know what it's called in english but I mean those large poles that light up the road) and use them as a baseball bat, pick up enemies and throw them, etc.I have another complaint to lodge actually.
The only things my hero can do are stop crimes.
... ... ...
Ok, yeah, that sounds silly. But hear me out!
Heroes DO do other things. They stop natrual disasters, for one. Other disasters too. Not everything has to be about stoping kiddnapings.
Lets see some "Disaster contacts" that hand out tough missions with time limits on them. Lets save people from burning buildings(Ideally carring them out, which should be an option for all rescue/kiddnap missions). And stop/avert floods. Catch falling planes. Stop an erupting volcano.
You could add multiple ways for it to be acomplished. Not everyone can just catch the plane.
And by the same token. I'd like my villains to be more proactive in the same way. Cause dissasters and such. Hey, maybe they could even be competitive. Inditect PvP where villains can cause dissasters on the hero side that heroes can fix. Similar to the LGTF causing Rikti invasions.
...*cough*
*scurries off*
Just a thought -
Quote:The problem with this is while this works for players that have been around CoX for a time and know where to find info it's not very friendly for new players. As a newcomer to a game I welcome when the information is easy to come by and straight forward. Why you can't use powersets for instance should be noted directly in the game with a message that guides you to that you need a expansion to unlock it....or people could just read the GR site, forum posts and all the other chatter about Dual Pistols. Just saying.
I know that you guys that have played a lot longer then me (and are a lot greater then me) sits with several links to web pages that hold all of this information. During my short experience I've come to find that information regarding CoX can be quite bothersome to come over and sometimes even very unclear in it's message and usually I end up going to the forums instead cause I know that I will get a better, clearer answer to my question here.
And I really want to say that I love the forums. It's amazing how so many dedicated players help you out. No snarky comments or curses when you ask about something. I'm really glad about that guys! Just saying that as a completely new player that maybe not even have played a MMO before CoX it's troublesome to know where to go to get your hands on information and understand it sometimes.
Though I still hold the same opinion about the choice of including a DP set which you can't use without pre order and not put a guideline in the game, I want to apologize that I was snarky in the beginning of the thread. Kinda had one of those days. -
Well, it's a forum so it's free for all
Thank's for the answers now I know -
Quote:I understand that Paragon Studios is in need of money and that they have worked a lot on the two powersets, but a powerset should be something that you get for free in a patch. It's not a new class, it's just a powerset.Would you rather they not give them to us at all, until Going Rogue comes out?
Either way, Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning will only be available to those with GR (or a preorder code). Anyone with just a base CoH/V account won't have access to them.
If DP is the 'money maker' they should just have included it in Going Rogue and made it not accessible unless you had a code for GR.
To answer your question; personally I'm not that interested in DP. I just thought that it was strange that it was listed but you couldn't use it so I thought I would ask the community. Like it or do not like it, some will have different opinions about a dev choice like this. I personally think it's stupid to include it when you can't use it. And I'm not a fanboi so I won't like every single thing that do. They should have added a lot of things much earlier and GR doesn't seem that amazing of a expansion. I understand that if you've played the game for over 5 years its nice with new content though you dont seem to get that much content for your money in GR.
And they should at least write on the power that "not accessible if you do not have a preorder code.. something.. something... something".
I like this game a lot, but information is really not Paragon Studios greatest strenght. -
Okay that was a really stupid idea... Thanks for the answers tough
-
So the patch added the Dual Pistols but I can't choose them when I'm making a new char?
what's the meaning with adding them if i can't use them?
-
Try to logout and then login again. Sometimes this happens to me as well when I've changed the color on a costume piece. The color appears as black though it is not. Logging out and in again resolves the problem for me every time.
-
Thank you devs! I just hope that they fix so belts and tails is no more the same costume piece.
-
exploding mushrooms which you can line up as traps would fit perfectly for me xD
If they would have a slow effect on foes after they exploded would be even better! -
Global invite, many MMO has it. Yes it would be really good in CoX. I tend to create new chars now and then and I think that the poor captains in my SG is tired of me asking them for an invite :P
-
If i didn't age normaly and were highly resistant to normal damage i would probably be a villain
Not a super villain just a thief. Wouldn't hurt anyone just steal things for the challenge and escape.
-
well it works and its cool, that's enough for me
-
Quote:I see, I didn't want to offend you eitherNot to pick a fight here but the reason I said what I said is because in the 1.5 years I've visited on these forums someone has always posted the Q in the MM forum "Hey what do you guys think of a petless MM?"
In other words "Damn these dual pistols look so cool! I wanna team up with people, look cool, and still be effective."
Ya...basically that.I thought that u meant that it was a bad timing for that build because GR is coming out which will have dual pistols anyway.
Sorry for the misunderstanding
