ty. i kinda wish all of the new options were just automatically enabled, instead of always disabled first. but at least i know its there now
.

any chance we can see not only our teammates, but also all of our league members in the map window? preferably with the same color scheme we have for our names? would help a lot during trials i think.
unless its already an option on the map window, then i'm happy.

Quote:in some respects, the choice of which judgement power you get and which branch you take allows for some diversity. now maybe it'd be nice to have some adjustments taking into account AT, but the debuffs and extras are already pretty powerful (really, a chance of a mag 4 hold?!).I'm thinking they should revisit this and make the power more archtype appropriate:
Blaster = Ranged Nuke
Melee = PBAE
Defender = Major Debuff (perhaps combined with DOT)
Controller = High Level AE Hold (same)
etc.
don't just assume everyone will take pyronic for the extra damage. i'm taking ion on my main and i still haven't decided if i want to get the +dam proc or the +hold/debuff branch. -
remember, all content done with someone with the alpha slot unlocked will now drop shards, even exemped to lvl 1.
-
this is due to the way damage and damage resistance are fundamentally linked in the game engine. if power boost could boost damage resistance, it would also boost damage too.

i'd have to disagree. players need to change. maybe the timer 'encourages' speeding, but only because players are both used to running everything fast plus a timer gets people in that mode, but i have to contend that the speed through and leave behind teammates mentality is at fault, not bad design. those of us who'd rather not leave teammates behind and group through it will not only progress easier, but will have more time to do it.
-
core. if you need extra tohit on BU+Aim i don't know what to tell you.
-
for some reason, even pre-set teams will get shuffled when entering. we had 2 8-player teams in a league and joined all at once and our teams were shuffled, iirc.
-
Quote:that they need to use strategy to get the acid and close the portals? seriously. and you don't need to speed through the collection phase. a team can clear the halls to each one and have enough time due to both teams getting items will add extra time. and don't let the mobs pile up during the final phase. you have to clear them and their annoying orbs before dealing with marauder. And what do you advise for teams that have those AND builds that are IO'd to the gills, and yet STILL get curbstomped by a swarm of +4 Bosses and LTs, never mind Marauder?
my S/L soft capped controller had to learn the hard way that i can't stand toe-to-toe and deal with these mobs single handedly. its all about strategy and teamwork - something players have forgot about with their fancy IOs. -
Quote:not at all. don't use the LFG tool and organize max player PUG league in Pocket D and give everyone a 5 minutes heads up on strategy. then enter. or enter and use 5 minutes while there isn't a timer to explain things.Because there's a new LFG tool that lumps ignorant, uncoordinated PUGs together with the suggestion that they should be able to handle this content.
And I should note that for the last seven years, I've been able to play this game solo and with PUGs just fine. Now I need to join a guild? Does anyone know if the Goonsquad is hiring, or do I need to get the requisite lobotomy first? -
Quote:so i tried to run under SP2 last night, and CoX wouldn't load, but there was no error message error either. good thing i read the forums, or i would have been majorly frustrated by having absolutely no clue as to why my machine couldn't run the game it could the day before.does it say anything that i already have the ncsoft launcher installed and have been running CoX from it for weeks?
i mean, given my past experience, i'm going to wait and see. if i have to figure this out, at least i can count on threads like this to give me ideas and options.
luckily i was able to download the SP3 installer (300 MB) and install SP3 and have everything run fine. i would have liked to know beforehand though as i wasted an hour i could have been fighting... -
honestly, its only the players who have to change on this one.
first off, if you take your time and defeat as many enemies as you can when things aren't timed, you can get a lot of iXP (56% interface from two lambdas, 1 defeat, 1 win, no conversion). so each slot will take maybe 4 runs - and if you are really anal, maybe getting the league together first might be advisable where everyone knows whats going on.
second, yes, the second part of the lambda trial is timed, but if both teams are doing well (i.e. both getting parts), the league gets more time to complete, which really means that you don't have to stealth it, but can steamroll and not really leave behind teammates, as long as both teams are still progressing. (in fact, the lambda we won, one team got all of the canisters and had 5 minutes to try to find the weapons caches the other team missed - we didn't get all of them, but got 9/10)
knowledge and coordination are key. i don't know why players are complaining that they need these to win. its not rocket science. -
not quite, but since both the half-life logo and the lambda facility use the greek letter 'lambda', its not surprising they are similar. however, the half-life logo has extended pieces on the top and bottom, while the lambda facility logo has a crooked top-half, unlike the half-life logo.
similar yes, but definitely not the same, plus use of greek letters is hard to sue over.

glad to hear someone found a work-around. luckily i did what Microsoft told me not to and it seemed to work fine: download the SP3 patch directly and apply it myself. took almost an hour between the DL and install and no obvious problems so far - and CoX finally ran.
the devs should have realized this would be an issue and some warning, preferably a week or two beforehand. its not like the game can't recognize which version of Windows we're using, and probably the devs can see it too. they should have known they were calling a command that only exists in SP3 and that they have many users still on SP2. -
dude, stop being defeatist. seriously, back when the STF and LRSF were first introduced, did you know or remember that they weren't defeated for MONTHS, and even after they were, it took time before they became routine. it took many runs before we figured out how to approach these and luckily some of us are still around and realize the benefits of repeated attempts. at least we get incarnate credit for running them, unlike the STF and LRSF which we got nothing but inf and regular drops unless we won.

a piece of advice for someone who ran two lambda's yesterday on Triumph, first a fail, the second a win.
the second time, with almost everyone from the first failed (which was 9 people), we realized that we needed to make a full 16 two team league to start. we also spent 5-10 minutes explaining the whole trial and what we learned the first time.
also, we realized that the key is not to rush through, unless the timer is going, which it isn't for half of the trial. defeat everything before entering lambda sector, including turrets is huge help - not to mention a huge amount of iXP and threads.
seriously, your goals right now are to get as much iXP and threads that you can, and if you win, you get extras, like merits and salvage.
knowledge and coordination are key to defeating these. you often will learn more when you fail than if you win, so failing isn't pointless, and at least we get something for running it, even if we fail.
btw, i got 56% interface XP from the above mentioned two trials. defeat and grow large with food (iXP and shards). -
i still have a build on my ill/kin that has siphon speed + hover as his only travel powers (ok, i eventually got CJ for immob resist), but its definitely a viable way to go. especially with hover, i can cap my fly speed and run speed. drop to the ground for straight-aways and then use hover for the vertical obstacles.
however, i got so sick of siphoning that when i made my incarnate build, i got super speed too. between my loading times and having to siphon (or find something to siphon off of), i always was slightly behind everyone else and got sick of it.
viable yes, kickable offense never. -
my BS/regen had a costume specifically made to recreate a CoT thorn wielder. i don't have an image at work, but you can create one if you modify the bottom robe and kill enough CoT mages for the 'soul binder' badge for the thorn blade.
i'll try to remember to post a pic when i get home. -
Quote:my apologizes. i know that sometimes people need the simple, obvious answer first to clear out the simple solution, but its not always that simple you know.I'm not being a jerk, though people seem to be getting that impression. I was just warning folks that you're going to need to update to SP3.
Excuse me for trying to help, sheesh.
i know i'm one of those people who may have issues with i20, especially because i have issues with installing SP3, i just haven't tried yet due to work.
now that we've got that out of the way, solutions and work arounds are great ways to make people like me less anxious and frustrated, besides the obvious answer.
-
its the same people going into every thread on this issue and saying 'update, its no problem' or 'why didn't you update, blah blah blah?'.
again, realize that not everyone can or wants to upgrade to SP3 and these type of high horse comments don't help. you're just alienating your fellow, subscription paying players. -
just so you know, all of you saying 'why didn't you upgrade, are you nuts?' does nothing but frustrate those of us who either didn't or can't.
get off of your high horse. realize that if those of us using XP SP2 can't play or figure out a way to upgrade... we're gone, not because we want to be, but because we can't play anymore. you shouldn't be jerks to fellow players who help keep this game going. -
Quote:this is exactly why. they have most of the customization done on the epic pools (since every single power is already in game). the devs have said they don't plan on allowing customization on the patron pools (in game lore reason). and its the UI and coding for the power pools which is making it less than trivial. do get to customize all possibilities from the instant we create our character before we even know what pools we will take or do we only get to customize what we get. however, what if build 1 had pool A and build 2 has pool B - and you have be able to customize all costumes to work in both cases. that's the tricky part. Are you sure about that?
Frankly, I'd see it as being a bit more of an undertaking than "regular" power customization (and part of why we haven't seen epics added, either.) Setting up customization for powers that might not be there from one time to the next, between respecs and multiple builds? It's one thing with a primary and secondary. Even if someone doesn't take a power, you know it'll be available. A bunch of pools that might not be, and won't be there when you first create a character (or at 20, 30 or 40?)
Yeah, I'd say it's more "there's quite a lot to it that will take time to do halfway decently" instead of "low priority."
remember too, everything we customize is more lines in each costume file that everyone has to load every time they zone for everyone else in the zone.
maximum increase in data per player if every pool got 2 colors and we were able to customize all epics:
9 pools x 4 powers x 2 colors (x light/dark)
8 epics x 5 powers x 2 colors (x crystal/stone and/or light/dark)
= 72 (x light/dark) + 80 (x crystal/stone and/or light/dark)
lots of extra data (yes some powers have limited effects or people might want a magic option for the medicine pool, etc - the point is still valid even if the math doesn't account for every nuance). -
Quote:i had to look it up because i was confused too. It's even listed in the post. PS; there is no EST right now. It's EDT.
PST = PDT and EST = EDT when daylight savings are in effect, which is now. just a way to keep track of which zones are off by an hour from GMT/UT. -
does it say anything that i already have the ncsoft launcher installed and have been running CoX from it for weeks?
i mean, given my past experience, i'm going to wait and see. if i have to figure this out, at least i can count on threads like this to give me ideas and options. -
so wait, i20 is bringing a restriction on what version of XP?
i had this same worry when another high profile game by that winter weather company that explicitly said XP SP3, and my machine with XP SP2 could run it just fine.
btw, i literally can't update to SP3. i have a legit copy and have tried in vain multiple times to get it to patch to SP3. i'd reformat, but with 7 years worth of games and programs i'd rather not reinstall or potentially lose that data.
