  1. What AlwaysAPrice said, with this added:

If you edit someone's page for spelling or grammar, please say so in the Editing Comment.

If you are contemplating more drastic changes, PLEASE (please please please) discuss them with the page creator beforehand.

If someone complains to the sysops that their page was 'hacked up' or vandalized without their consent, we'll simply revert it to the last known good version. Then a not-so-nice cease and desist note gets posted to the page of the person who did the changes.

It goes downhill from there. Pages get locked, people get banned... not a good scene at all.

So regardless of whatever drama you may have going on with your fellow players, respect what's posted on the VV. It's often better to simply not mention any characters of players you disagree with.

Now... if you have an IC rivalry, but OOC you're on good terms? By all means, have fun. Just don't take it OOC, or go after a page that the owner doesn't agree with your changes.

    Thank you.

P.S. The moderators WILL edit pages that are in violation of the Virtueverse Terms of Use and Basic Guidelines.
  2. *sigh*

Bit late for stuff that GOT purged, methinks. Not only are the arcs buried in the morass that is the AE, their blurbs are gone as well.

... I'll be back when I15 goes Live. Have fun, all.
  3. The MA Souvenirs are stored in a plaintext file in your CoH folder. can't recall which one right off the top of my head, but 'backing it up' is as simple as copying it to another file periodically.
  4. There's a rather popular "flooded" office map (the DE map) that mirrors one of the heroside office maps. Perhaps you could use that.
  5. I am thinking, that there should be an OPTION for flagging a mission/arc as "profanity detected, author agreed to human review" for all these cases where the word filter goes nuts over something that is legal in context.. The mission is published, but there's the tacit understanding that if a CS rep finds the prose to be profane, the mission is immediately pulled. Also, it would be flagged for CS review upon publish (so the review doesn't take a long time to actually happen).

Basically a "Trust me, I know what I'm doing" setting.
  6. ... there's actually quite a few Native American characters about.

One of mine is Raven Windtalker - a young Hopi woman born with wings, who also can call forth storms and such. I'm RP'ing her as a shaman-in-training, as her gifts are due to mutation, not magic. The tribe, after MUCH deliberation, sent her to Paragon, as they didn't feel they were quite up to the task of training her.

    She is a Storm/Elec Defender.
  7. .. I'm sorry, finding Alex was the very LAST thought in my mind.

    *fans self* Ohhh myyy...
  8. ... well, less of it, anyway.

No, I'm not quitting (you can't have my stuff anyhow). I'm just taking a break. Got some expenses to take care of, and that means I'll have to cut back. Besides which, the way things blew up around the Architect Edition just got me doing a lot of soul searching (get it? ha ha. ha. Right... uhm... ) about this game, and my role in it both as a player and as a bunch of different characters.

I'll still keep an eye on the VV Recent Edits list and the forums over there as well, and will always be reachable at my email, for RP, chitchat, whatever. I'll probably be back around the time I15 shows up.

*hugs everyone tight* I love you all.
  9. Here's your problem, brah.

Also, what the above posters said. You need to clean up your startup, because that chipset uses shared memory, and every bit of memory you free up by NOT running something you don't actually USE means more for the display.

I would recommend, since it's a desktop, to find/purchase a suitable graphics card for the machine, preferably an ATI or nVidia mid-to-high-end graphics chipset. Intel chipsets are mainly engineered for multimedia (DVD playback, etc) and don't do 3D gaming well at all.

If it's PCI-Express, then you have the pick of the litter, pretty much.

AGP? well it might be tricky finding a card that will work and not break your budget, as this format has for the most part fallen by the wayside.

    Fly is Bugged?

There's no complaint about the effect itself (Fly is faster).

The question is, are the numbers being reported correct? and it turns out, one way of looking at the numbers is correct, the other is not.

If we didn't do the number crunching, we'd not find these kinds of bugs. Simple.
  11. If you can't find a copy, you can always burn a DVD of your own. Just drag/drop your COH folder to the DVD burner's staging area.

If you need to reinstall, it's simply a matter of drag/drop from the DVD you made to the drive/folder you want to install to. Then copy the updater to your desktop, run it, point it to where you copied everything, and it'll check the files and download whatever patch it needs since you prepared the DVD.

Here's a batch file that you can actually run FROM the DVD to do all that. It assumes that you're installing to the default location, of course.

COHInstall.CMD (copy/paste lines below into Notepad and save as this file. Drag/drop this file to the DVD burner staging area.)
    <font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre>
    @echo off
if not exist "C:\program files\City of Heroes" mkdir "C:\program files\City of Heroes"
    xcopy /e /f "City of Heroes\." "C:\program files\City of Heroes"
    copy "City of Heroes\COHUpdater.exe" C:\
Echo When the Updater program runs, allow it to install to the default location: C:\Program Files\City of Heroes
    pause
    c:\cohupdater.exe
    del c:\cohupdater.exe
    </pre><hr />
  12. OMG it's NOT PvE!!!

    /em nerdrage
  13. ... interesting.

It WOULD be good to adopt that model. At the very least it'd give the arc a little bit of inertia until there was a solid base of ratings behind it.

I of course would NOT publicize what the 'seed' value is. Otherwise the 5-star and 0-star cartels would know what to shoot for.
  14. it's on the Wish List.

So far the devs haven't said anything in regards to earnable/purchasable slots aside from getting something to Dev's Choice or Hall of Fame.
  15. They'd have to add a third 'texture' to the Face option for that to be supported, which is what Boots and Gloves have.

Right now, you have two options for Face or Masks with Hair - which face/mask you want, and what makeup or matte pattern to put over it.

what is your metric for cool? i am willing to bet it is not a very good one

    [/ QUOTE ]

That 'bet' you just stated put you firmly in the 'uncool' column, IMHO.

Cos, yanno, cool people don't evaluate other people's metrics for cool. Cos, yanno, it's not cool to do that.

... wait, now I'm doing it. DAMN!

I did all my drinking and smoking and partying in college.

Pretty much decided that it wasn't exactly conducive to a productive happy lifestyle, so I phased it all out. Now, I drink MAYBE once or twice a year, and when I start feeling buzzed I stop drinking... because I don't enjoy the FEELING of being 'drunk as a lord' in any way, shape, or fashion.

If I want to feel good, I'll cuddle with my sweetie, or listen to music or play a game I enjoy.

There are tens of thousands of arcs which no one knows if they are any good.

If the people reviewing continue to randomly review arcs, then there will be a large number of arcs which only one person has reviewed, and you won't know if its good.

In order for the MA to benefit players, there has to be an organized effort to critique the mission arcs to give a much better idea of how good the arc is. [We also need] a common place where you can see 5 opinions on an arc, the same way you can read a couple of opinion on a new movie or play.

Now what reward should the people doing this get?

IMHO, after 50 reviews someone would show up on their server and thank them in broadcast for the work they put in, like anyone else doing community service. This would not solve the large arc problem, but it would create a small growing oasis of reviewed arcs that people could check and see a variety of e-opinions the same way people do now with books, movies or music.

I am thinking that people would need to review at least one already reviewed arc for each new arc to slowly build a consensus. There would also need to be a way to easily merge e-opinions into an easily read blurb of reviews.

    Something like this:

Arc 99999999 Death Death Death Kill Kill Death Doom

Review A .... Was unable to kill the boss at the end
    Review B .... I liked the creativity
Review C .... I was able to beat the mission in 5 minutes
Review D .... I liked all the Rasta injokes
Review E .... The Custom Groups were all very clever

    [/ QUOTE ]

Such sites exist. Check the Missions and Lore section.

Also, I took the liberty of slicing and dicing your post, so that my fellow members of the "Playskool Cartel" would find it easier to read. By the by, this is also the recommended grammatical/composition style from Strunk and White, which means most teachers of English Composition would also prefer it.

A run-on paragraph is as bad as a run-on sentence. If you cram too many divergent concepts or ideas into one paragraph, the reader tends to lose track of what you're attempting to say.

Instead, if you break them up so that each "plot point" gets a paragraph, the reader's retention goes way up. It also makes the writing style more emphatic, which is a good thing when you're wanting to convince others of an idea.

This is why Wall of Text is bad, and properly sliced and diced paragraphs are better.
  20. The Mayhem/Safeguard maps are on my personal "WANT" list.

However... someone DID make a mission with a lot of destructible objects instead of bosses. I think they were all cars.

    Am I Insane?

.... kill it with fire. :P

Actually as long as you put in the description that the last mission is a "go in loaded for bear" situation, you should be OK.
  22. My "Nanny Filter" one-off humor mission has you destroying a database of censored words. While you do this, it spouts error messages like a cybernetic June Cleaver.

Someone complained that the computer was talking. Uh... okay... I can't customize the dialogue to make it look like a computer readout....

Since there are people out there saying "I'm maliciously voting things down," and I've seen the evidence with my own eyes, I'm inclined to believe it, too.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Didn't happen to me, but did happen to a friend of mine. Someone asked on a channel for recommendations on some arcs to try. My friend mentioned his arc and said he'd been trying to get some more people to play it so he could get input about how to tweak it. No spamming, no begging, just an answer to the question.

Lo and behold, someone said that because my friend said he was trying to get people to play it, said someone was deliberately going to play it and one rate it, just to 'teach him a lesson'.

Had I not seen it on channel, I wouldn't have believed it. But there it was. What a maroon.

The stated low-rater *did* play the arc, *did* give it a one star, and even stated in the comments that it wasn't because of the content, but because he'd tried to 'solicit plays'. Excuse me? How is that helpful to *anyone*?

Y'know, if my friend had been spamming, that would have been one thing (although personally, I still think that would have been an abuse of the ratings system). However, he wasn't, and I, for one, am always glad to see people mention an arc they've done. And hey, someone was *asking* for arcs to be recommended!!

The star system needs to be gutted for the same reason that the rankings on the message boards were eliminated: too much potential for abuse by trolls. It's a sad thing, because it *could* be very useful. Unfortunately, as it is, if it's not abuse by trolls, it's artificially inflated ratings to avoid hurting feelings. Either way, the information's rarely accurate.

    ~Elizabeth

    [/ QUOTE ]

Since there was evidence in the global channel that the one-star was deliberate, premeditated, and irrelevant to the arc itself, I'd have gathered it all up and sent it in with a petition for ratings griefing.

Even if it didn't amount to anything, the talking-to the player would have gotten from the CS folks would be a BIG clue that an honest request for plays and ratings is NOT A BAD THING.
