Quote:That's actually a decent point. When someone rips up high performing ATs (Trollers, Brutes,...) people don't really take them seriously. No one jumps to the fore defending them because them don't need defending....
If I was wrong about Tankers, anyone who truly felt they were fine would know it and wouldn't feel like they had to defend squat to me. They wouldn't be insulted...unless they're not so sure I'm completely off the mark...
Now, other ATs (Stalkers, Peacebringers) have droves of both detractors and valiant defenders. One brings up point after point how said AT sucks, the other goes to great lengths to prove said ATs are just as good (if not better) as other ATs. Interesting debates, but I've seen few similar debates about the Brute AT as a whole.
Tankers, in my experience, are also the subject many of these types of debates. Does that mean anything? Dunno, I just know the oppurtunity to defend the Merits of my SS/WP Brute never comes up. -
Just avoid Musculature. On a Brute, that's the least effective Alpha...

Quote:Well, that's odd behavior to have put in this proc, but I guess it makes sense. I noted my 6.3 number during an iTrial. Me at +3 fighting lvls 54s would produce the result as you describe. Thanks for figuring this out...It appears that it's somehow being affected by the purple patch. A Pylon always cons +1 IIRC, so the proc would be at .9 effectiveness, and 7*.9 = 6.3. If you had a level shift when you were testing the orange version of the proc, the proc would be at 1.11 effectiveness against -1's, and 5*1.11 = 5.55. My orange proc gives 30 fury (6.00 effectiveness, for attacking a -49) from a Hellion in AP, and 13.5 fury from a level 35 RWZ dummy (2.7 effectiveness, for attacking a -16)..
-
That is a small difference. I went out and soloed a Pylon to see if the superior would make a difference. I shaved maybe 20 seconds off the time I did before I purpled the Fury Proc. Not quite as much of a difference as I'd hoped. Oh well, this is still a wonderful proc...
-
Well, I purpled my Brute Fury Proc last night and took it out for a spin. It's supposed to add 7 pts of Fury when it procs, right?
But when I looked in the combat stats in chat tray, it said 6.3 Fury added when it procced. What's up with that? -
Quote:I bet that AoE effect is a bug that slipped thru da cracks. If I get confirmation otherwise, I'm slotting mine in Footstomp yesterday. Until then, it'll stay in KO Blow. You're correct, Socorro. It will fire the same number of times in any given timeframe, no matter what power it's slotted in, as long as that power is used as frequently as it recharges. But most powers do not meet that final condition. Also, it behaves differently in AoEs, we're not exactly sure how yet. I have it in Burn, and it appears to proc multiple times per cast (my Fury bar jumps 20+ points if I use Burn when I'm surrounded by enemies), which I had thought was fixed during beta, but apparently not, or maybe Burn is special somehow and gets around the fix.

Quote:Originally Posted by Arbiter HawkThis is a bit of a trick question - these procs that you mention function like store-bought IO procs, so their chance to proc with any given power activation fluctuates with the power's recharge time and some other factors. The long and short of it is that you should put the proc in a power you like to use, but this Proc-per-minute functionality does not advantage, say, Neutrino Bolt over X-Ray Eyes, if you like using X-Ray more. Slot the procs into attacks that you use, and you'll see them go off fairly regularly. -
I could've swore I read some redname posting that the proc doesn't work as you guys are describing. If I remember correctly, the proc is supposed to fire depending on the base recharge of the power, so that, in essence, it goes off roughly the same amount of times per minute no matter what power it's in.
ie. slotted in Punch (fast recharge) it'll proc less often than, say, slotted in Knockout Blow (long recharge). In either power it'll average out firing off roughly the same number of times in a timeframe. And it certainly won't proc more often in an AoE...
But, what you guys are saying seems to contradict all that. I'll see if I can find the redname post I read... -

Quote:On the Beta forums some have said they've attempted this and...no dice. Apparently they're truly Unique even when Superior-lized....Does making the ATO's into their superior versions allow you to install another set that you then won't be able to catalyze due to the unique nature of the set?...
Otherwise, you could 3-slot 4 powers (2 superior, 2 normal) and get +16% s/l defense, plus two chances of Fury Proccing (5 and 7). I'd say they're likely right that this is a nono... -
Quote:I have yet to get a catalyst drop...I think. I've only attempted one trial since these went live: the TPN trial. I could've sworn I saw in by chat area that I was getting some Catalyst drop - stuff like Catalyst: Resistance or something like that.I can confirm this, as I got a Catalyst as a drop during the warehouse potion of sLam last night.
There's a TPN bug causing the trial to crash, so the one I was on crashed, and when I logged back in, I didn't have any Catalysts...
So, is that part of the TPN bug (making drops disappear), or more likely I just didn't get a Catalyst drop? -
-
-
I bought all the Brute IOs on the market, then bought 12 packs for Catalysts so I can have the enhanced versions. 12 packs - not a single Catalysts. I was starting to wonder if I'd read wrong about these dropping catalysts. Did the RNG just hate me?

Quote:No doubt - I was essentially thinking it could be something comparable to how waypoint and mission entrance distances are constantly calculated relative to the movement of your toon. You'd be talking about a potentially very computationally intensive process, which means that one power could suck up a significant amount of the server cycles serving maps with swinging characters.
I mean, the game already has to do this to a degree, in that it presents to your screen a view of surrounding structures relative to your toon's position to them (something is calculating this). The tech I was thinking of extrapolated from this. I agree that it could be more intensive than we imagine, but again, the game already does it to a large extent, so then perhaps not quite as much as we'd think.
*shrug* S.C.R. applies, as always. -
I'm not really sure why a swinging power must have 'anchor points' and literally interact with the environment to look right.
I agree that swinging as high as you wish from 'nothing' would look odd, but it seems that could be fixed by setting a limit on swinging height to be no higher than nearby structures. Your swing line would indeed disappear some distance above you, not really attached to anything, but as long as you were never swinging higher than a nearby object, it seems to me the illusion that you were attached to something could be more palatable. There wouldn't be a limit to which direction you could go, provided you went no higher than a nearby object.
And if you were on completely flat ground, the power just wouldn't work (or maybe an athletic ninja-run type power took over instead)
I have no idea how difficult (SCR applies) it would be to constantly measure the height of nearby structures, nor how close you should have to be to them, but it does seem like it be less work than making tons of interactive anchor points. Maybe not... -
Don't care how many times this is brought up...

I'd swear I couldn't 'footstomp' while 'only self affected', but you're probably right. What would such a hypothetical tech be called? 'really really only affecting self'?
-
It does seem like they could have made the purchased travel powers 'affecting only self' instead of de-toggling everything. That wouldn't have required redoing any animations.
That they didn't must mean even that's more difficult that it would seem on the surface. Even so, I'd like them much more (ie. buy them and use them) if they did 'affect only self'. No one really knows if there's enough like me that would then purchase them to make it worth the Dev's time. -

These debates are always hilarious. The winner of these fictional fights between fictional characters will be whoever the writers decide they want to win.

Quote:I once accidentally vendored a Hecatomb (curr selling price around 500,000,000.00) ouch...Worst I've ever done along these lines is I once accidentally vendored a purple. It was one of the less desirable ones, but still. Shortly thereafter the ability to mail recipes came in; now when I get purples or such as soon as there's a break in the action I mail them to myself.
Before I got into marketing (thus in complete ignorance of what you could make there) I purposefully vendored at least 2 purples. I remember because I thought names like 'Armageddon' were interesting for simple enhancement...
