Who's the lucky hero/villain that won the lottery?

I just want to congratulate the lucky hero who sold a common salvage item for 250 million influence late last night, you know, the time of night when you're nodding off and losing focus and trying to get the salvage for your last piece in that set of Reactive Armor to slot.

Spend it well!

Great another piece of common salvage that's going to have its price sky rocket now.

Unlikely since they tend to sell 5 so fast the history is long gone before anyone sees it.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

I should have bought four more to really startle everyone!

The story has a happy ending, however. My hero got her full set of Reactive Armor and it's WAY more shiny and fashionable than any other hero with the same set of armor.

We chould form a club like the AA where people can gather around and bemoan our loss of senses and precious resources (in the South West corner of Independence Port on Triumph server).

Please tell me it was for a piece of Alchemical Silver.

I mean, er... yeah, lucky person there, yeah!

I'm sorry, but you don't get to join the High Roller Errors club until you've accidentally spent over 1B on something by mistake.

Last week I bought a Data Drive for 95,000,100 influence. And I'd like to say that was the first time I've done something like that....

I'm a 5 year veteran and I have about 280 million influence total.

That would be a nice surprise

I'd have amassed several billion over the past couple years or so, but I keep spending my inf on purple and PvP IOs.

I recently needed a Magical Conspiracy for one recipe and a Military Cybernetic for another recipe. I went to the nearest Merit Vendor and rolled for random rare salvage. I got exactly what I needed on the first two rolls. A whopping 30 Reward Merits expended. Millions in influence saved.

If I'm going to gamble with my in-game resources, I'd rather play with fixed odds I know first, and then with the completely unpredictable chaos of the consignment market second. Hell, I'd rather spend a few minutes earning AE tickets and know I can get exactly what I want, than just throw my inf away, nine figures at a time.

Well, yeah, except that 30 merits are worth at least 5 million inf, while those bits of salvage are currently worth at most 4 million.

And those are my most conservative figures. It probably more like the merits being worth 15-20 mil and the salvage worth 2.5.

Main Hero: Mazey - level 50 + 1 fire/fire/fire blaster.
Main Villain: Chained Bot - level 50 + 1 Robot/FF Mastermind.

BattleEngine - "And the prize for the most level headed response ever goes to Mazey"

Your anecdotal evidence does not support your conclusion. In fact, I find the market to be stable and the random rolls from the merit vendor to be unpredictable. It's that "random" part of the random rolls that does it. While you yourself might always get what you want within two or three rolls, that's definitely not been my experience. I'd rather put in a reasonable bid and then patiently wait, instead of wasting all my merits on spins of the slot machine.

Besides, what are the prices of most rare salvage on the market? 3 to 5 million? That's cheap. I'll save my merits to buy LotG 7.5's or such.

I don't even have a character with $250 mil, so I don't have that problem.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Mallerick paid 250mil for a single piece of common salvage. This suggests that putting in a reasonable bid and waiting patiently was not part of the equation. I'm merely pointing out that there are alternatives to straight inf when the WANT IT NAO urge takes over. Someone willing to throw 250mil at one piece of salvage is willing to throw the equivalent of 400 Reward Merits at it (that's what it would take to score two LotGs worth 250mil on the market), when a few rolls at 15 merits each would likely achieve the same outcome.

What I gather from the OP is that the 250 million bid was a mistake brought on by fatigue, not a deliberate "want NAO" bid.

Yeah, this thread has nothing to do with being impatient. It's the very expensive typo thread.

In my own case, I can tell you exactly how it happened. I had bid 95,000 on some other item of salvage and then I wanted to bid 100 on that Data Drive. But, due to multitasking (watching TV) I actually stuck the 100 onto the end of what was already in the bid field and then hit ENTER, causing me to buy one for 95,000,100!

Once meant to spend 750,000/ea on a stack of 10 rare salvage... wound up typing in 75 million.

I am so careful now, but it still happens occasionally.

Thank you, Champion.

I once sold an Armageddon Triple for 500 thousand vs. 500 million .. so not worth it.
I haven't mistyped for purchasing though >.>

The very first digital entry mistake I made at Wentworth's was about a week after they opened. I spent 5 Million on what I thought was a Knock-back IO recipe ... but it was another piece of the set I didn't want. I was more shaken by that transaction than this perversely humorous one.

Coyote Seven -- it may actually have been Alchemical Silver! If you receive that budle o' cash, I want you to buy something nice for the Super Misses and Super Kids with it. I don't any want of it back, it would ruin this amazing experience where I've learned to grow and become a better person.

Yeah, this is exactly what happened to me. My first bid didn't clear when I put the cursor back into the field, and it added to the last bid. Before I could stop my overzealous hand, BAM ... I had the salvage I wanted at the price that any seller would be happy with.
